    Excellent reading.

    False Feminism by Katherine Kersten

As the #MeToo movement has spread from the upper echelons of Hollywood to the halls of Congress, what has most struck me is the startling disconnect between the movement’s feverish sensitivity to sexual impropriety, on the one hand, and women’s eager embrace of our nation’s sex-drenched popular culture, on the other.

For example, in 2017—the year #MeToo came to public attention—hip-hop/rap surpassed rock for the first time as the most widely consumed genre of pop music. Americans are now avid consumers of a form of music that demeans and hyper-sexualizes women. Yet far from protesting, Hillary Clinton agreed to appear at the 2018 Grammy awards in a video mocking President Trump that featured raunch-rappers Snoop Dogg and DJ Khaled.

Movies, television shows, and video games routinely depict women as male playthings, and women willingly buy into it. Indeed, the world’s best-selling women’s magazine, Cosmopolitan, coaches them in how to project sexual desirability and availability to men—how to make themselves “hot.” In 2012–13, E. L. James’s Fifty Shades of Grey—written for a female audience—burst onto the publishing scene. Fifty Shades glamorized sadomasochistic abuse of a vulnerable young woman by a powerful man. James earned $95 million by “selling more copies” of her book “faster than any other author in history,” according to Forbes.

The great Matt Ridley on wind and solar energy.

Even put together, wind and photovoltaic solar are supplying less than 1 per cent of global energy demand. From the International Energy Agency’s 2016 Key Renewables Trends, we can see that wind provided 0.46 per cent of global energy consumption in 2014, and solar and tide combined provided 0.35 per cent. Remember this is total energy, not just electricity, which is less than a fifth of all final energy, the rest being the solid, gaseous, and liquid fuels that do the heavy lifting for heat, transport and industry.

Such numbers are not hard to find, but they don’t figure prominently in reports on energy derived from the unreliables lobby (solar and wind). Their trick is to hide behind the statement that close to 14 per cent of the world’s energy is renewable, with the implication that this is wind and solar. In fact the vast majority — three quarters — is biomass (mainly wood), and a very large part of that is ‘traditional biomass’; sticks and logs and dung burned by the poor in their homes to cook with. Those people need that energy, but they pay a big price in health problems caused by smoke inhalation.

    …just think about it,

A two-megawatt wind turbine weighs about 250 tonnes, including the tower, nacelle, rotor and blades. Globally, it takes about half a tonne of coal to make a tonne of steel. Add another 25 tonnes of coal for making the cement and you’re talking 150 tonnes of coal per turbine. Now if we are to build 350,000 wind turbines a year (or a smaller number of bigger ones), just to keep up with increasing energy demand, that will require 50 million tonnes of coal a year. That’s about half the EU’s hard coal–mining output.

    Re #1:

I’ve always stood aghast on the feminist sidelines, wondering how in heckfahr so called “feminists” supported such a freely sexual culture, especially with the advent of (c)rap and hip/hop, and magazines such as Cosmopolitan.

Sex sells. I know that. But to focus on sexuality – and by supporting sexuality that makes womens’ sex the focus to men – takes away from those aspects of individuality (note I didn’t say “womanhood”) that encourage people to see women as intelligent, sentient beings. I am more than a walking vagina. I care for a family, which has included things like time management, first aid, counseling services, financial/budgeting skills, and educational support. In my case, I also had to juggle the needs of gifted and special needs children. I became a speech therapist and educational program designer, on top of everything else.

Magazines such as Penthouse, Hustler, and Cosmo (soft porn), and music like (c)rap tend to make sex the focus, and ignore the other attributes that a woman may have. Yes, spreading the knees freely, and the focus thereon, certainly makes women stronger. /not

And then, there’s Islam, which, generally, primarily considers women walking vaginas and threats to a man’s self-control, so they must be covered in bed sheets and screened from view. That demeans both women and men. Women, because they are sexual objects first and foremost, and men because they are not strong enough to exert self-control and are the pheromonal playthings of women. Yet, liberalism supports Islam and the culturally popular fad.

And the feminists support all of this?

Morning gang. Got up this morning still trying to wipe the image of Chuck and Nancy off my eyeballs. Went straight for the eyeball bleach, but I’m afraid that I waited too long and that image is now permanently etched into my psyche. Those government workers who are just lying around drinking 40 oz.’s and making babies under the assumption that they are on paid vacation may want to consider part time work. Just treat them like any other company ROF when the work demand goes down. I’m hearing that the usual eRep suspects are getting wobbly knees and are wanting to fold, but I’m for standing firm. Have a nice day you all.

Good sunny morning Hamsters. Beautiful start to Hump Day with a coolish 56 and a light breeze.

Presume the usual democrat suspects will be panning the Trump speech last night as pie in the sky. They better take the border situation seriously or they will pay dearly for not having done so come the next election.

HEADLINE: If Democrats Honestly Cared About Border Security, They Would Not Support Sanctuary Cities

The real harsh, bottom line in all of this is that the Ds have aborted a lot of their potential future voters and now they need replacements. They desperately need the flood of poor, uneducated, preferably English illiterates to enter so that they can “take care of them” in order to perpetuate their power.
If those in government were really serious about dealing with the problems, they would simply enforce the laws on the books. If the employers would face genuinely severe penalties (fines in the 6 digits and prison terms over 2 years) for employing illegals, the practice would stop.
If those in government were serious, a deportation hearing would last about 10 minutes with 99.9% resulting in immediate deportation. Either you produce documentation proving citizenship or your permission to be here or you are gone.
If those in government were serious, no citizenship status would be conferred upon those children born to mothers who are here illegally.

On a slightly different topic, I decided to take a peek at the much ballyhooed Bird Box on Netflix. I lasted just over 10 minutes. It’s obviously a chick flick, and I looked and sure enough the director is a woman. In every movie ever made about the apocalypse, all the people leave their buildings and run around crossing streets. This began in the old timey westerns when there was going to be a shoot out on main street, and all the townsfolk would run across the street, regardless of which side of the street they were on to start with. And the mysterious, unseen villain preys on women. Here we have normal, reasonably sane women doing normal, rational women things who just go insane instantly for no apparent reason – that’s the most realistic part of the whole deal. The fantasy begins when they try to blame it on some outside force or monster – that’s unbelievable. Women act that way naturally – there’s no external force or monster. Anyway, I couldn’t take more than a few minutes of it. You can see better drama at any AA meeting any day of the week; or at any department or grocery store if you are not in a hurry and don’t mind waiting a while.

Maybe phil can give us a more complete critical review.

I watched all of Bird Box. The only people who did not suffer suicidal psychosis in the movie were those who were already sociopaths and or psychopaths. The affliction enters through the eyes and even worked through video transmission. The source was aliens but there was no explanations as to why the aliens came, what they wanted or why humans went nuts. It was a crappy movie.

Were these aliens legal or illegal aliens? I reached the crappy movie conclusion about 10 minutes in, and that was enough for me considering I had to force myself to stay that long. I just don’t do chick flicks. I used to enjoy Sandra Bullock when she played her clutz roles and had a pretty face, but apparently some doc botched her up pretty badly. Oh well, Netflix can’t make all good movies, and overall, they turn out better stuff than the old legacy movie houses used to make. Who would have ever thought that Netflix and Amazon would own the movie making business.

Maywood, New Jersey is at latitude 40.0583 and Bellville, Texas is at latitude 29.9502. Therefore, Maywood is approximately 700 miles closer to the North Pole than Bellville and the same distance farther north than Bellville from the equator. You wouldn’t think it’s such a big deal.

It is one of the first things a person realizes moving from the southern US to the north. At this point in the winter here the sun rises about 40-45 degrees above the horizon by 11 AM in the east. It never gets any higher. At that point, it begins a very slow semi-circular descent around the horizon to the south/southwest horizon and slowly disappears. And it is not that softer summer sun, but the sharp, crystalline light of the winter sun.

This makes for horrific driving conditions much of the day because drivers are seriously blinded heading east early, heading south midday and heading south to southwest in the early afternoon.

Sunglasses are not just for fun – they’re mandatory and you better be aware of just which one of your fellow drivers is being blinded while you travel around during the day.

    Today was really wicked.

I saw the Shoofly PieHole lying through his mayo stained teeth after his meeting with the president.

My take is poetic justice would be the ShooFly PieHole and Spamlosi getting hit by a drunk driving illegal alien while crossing the street to the order their daily lunch of double salt dipped salami, on a Mayo Stained bun, with a dill pickle in the shape of a dildo on the side.

And you can throw in Newspeak propagandists Mr Potato Head and his sushi smelling pet shark Mika the Mako to boot.

These losers have the best security, best gates and best walls around their homes and still they don’t give a d@mn about anyone’s family that this has happened to.

Sometimes I think the British are the most self-absorbed people, most oblivious to what else is going on in the world.

The Earl of Sandwich puts a piece of bread between two pieces of meat and gets credit for all of history for inventing the sandwich ? Really ? Backasswards, you think ?

There is more than one joke embedded here in this meme.

Americans have been outrunning the rest of the world on food for so long it’s not even a race these days. We just accommodate them so they don’t get their feelings hurt anymore.

Texpat, did you read the whole thing? How the business evolved from the first prepared plastic packed sandwich on the shelf to sandwiches to what the business became is, in my opinion, rather interesting. The writer guesses the Earl was a lousy manager of the Admiralty and likely came up with the sandwich so he could eat at his desk.
