Tuesday Half & Half Open Comments

Former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama will produce films and TV shows for Netflix as part of a multi-year agreement, the streaming giant announced Monday. The deal will potentially include scripted series, unscripted series, docu-series, documentaries and features under their Higher Ground Productions banner.

A search for Higher Ground Productions has led us on a wild goose chase, similar to when we tried to verify a Nigerian email about Abacha Tunde, the first African in space who flew to the secret Soviet military space station Salyut 8T in 1989, but was stranded there when the USSR was dissolved, and needed money to return home.

Nevertheless, since the Netflix-Obama deal has hit the news yesterday, the pre-orgasmic anticipation among media organs of the O-shaped eye candy is registering 11 on our state-approved radar. And while no one yet has a slightest clue about the content, let us be the first to announce the list of potential titles.

The Wire  A team of Obama loyalists inside the DOJ and the FBI try to prevent a government takeover by wiretapping the presidential campaign of the Orange Monster.

Google’s unofficial motto has long been the simple phrase “don’t be evil.” But that’s over, according to the code of conduct that Google distributes to its employees. The phrase was removed sometime in late April or early May, archives hosted by the Wayback Machine show.

“Don’t be evil” has been part of the company’s corporate code of conduct since 2000. When Google was reorganized under a new parent company, Alphabet, in 2015, Alphabet assumed a slightly adjusted version of the motto, “do the right thing.” However, Google retained its original “don’t be evil” language until the past several weeks. The phrase has been deeply incorporated into Google’s company culture—so much so that a version of the phrase has served as the wifi password on the shuttles that Google uses to ferry its employees to its Mountain View headquarters, sources told Gizmodo.

  3. Hamous Avatar

Google realized that their motto was a fallback to a patriarchal, outdated binary of the human condition: good or evil. It stigmatizes a small minority of people by labeling them as “evil”.

There was a big ole moon hanging in the southwestern sky this morning.
Am I the only one wondering why they put the two clowns in the O.C. picture, on TV?
Do they really think that enough of the Obama sycophants are going to watch it.
    Scotty,……Oh never mind. 🙁

Nothing, the show is about nothing,…but why am I watching it? Because it’s on TV,….not yet.

I heard David Drucker on Hugh Hewett’s show this morning and he is either incredibly naive or a liar.

Oh please spare me the OC pic. And it’ll still be there tomorrow. Notify me when it’s rolled past the “off the screen” date. I could have gone all week without seeing that trigger of bad memories. Let Netflix do what they want, let the Zero’s do what they want, but let me do what I want and keep me out of it. I’m starting a petition right now to overthrow TPTB and get a substitute pic up. Please send me your credit card number, your password, and your mother’s maiden name to be eligible to sign.

South Carolina anchor, photographer killed covering Alberto as storm makes landfall.

A South Carolina anchor and photographer died on Monday after a large tree fell on their SUV while they were covering Subtropical Storm Alberto.

WYFF news anchor Mike McCormick and photojournalist Aaron Smeltzer were covering “rain impact” in Polk County, North Carolina, when a tree fell on their SUV, killing both of them, their home station said Monday night.

The OC pic is so spot on. Wonder how much $$$ Netflix will pour down the drain until if figures out this deal is one sided, and it isn’t their side.

I have noticed a new descriptor: “Sub”Tropical. What is the difference between a tropical storm and a “sub” tropical storm? Weren’t storms that did not rate as a “tropical storm” previously called tropical depressions? Is this example number 40 bazillion and two of the LSM attempting to fear-monger?

  12. Hamous Avatar

It means that the low pressure core is not on the surface. It’s more like a winter low pressure storm. A more accurate description would be “non-tropical” but that isn’t skeery enough. BOOGA BOOGA!

I’m off to Austin to pick up a friend. The Texas Department of Public Safety has decided that I’m no eligible to renew my driver’s license on line, so they want me to show up in person for a new photo, signature, and fingerprints. I guess my fingerprints have gotten old along with the rest of me. Since we don’t have a driver’s license office in SS, I’m planning to stop in Lampasas to get it renewed at their office. Hopefully that won’t take long and I can still get to Austin on time. And hopefully, I won’t have to log on again and see that pornographic OC picture again. Have a great day you all.

FB has a new ‘thing’ – labeling certain videos as violent or graphic, and the video is ghosted unless you hit a button that “uncovers” the video. It’s another effort to manage information flow; I’ve seen it used on a pro-gun video.

Then I scroll down and my sister posted a video of a squirrel breaking into a bird feeder that catapults the squirrel back over the fence, into a tree. It is also blacked out as “violent or graphic”.

Holee crap, if it weren’t for my daughter putting her stuff on FB, I think I’d kill my membership there.

Well, what’dya know, the HouChron did a barely-biased writeup on Dan Crenshaw’s primary win for CD-2. I didn’t know much about him because I don’t live in that district. Heck, in my district, there was only one contest on my ballot — a judicial office. I looked at the official stats the next day and there was 2% turnout for my district.

    #15 BC:

Jesse Duplantis, Kenneth Copeland are merely two of the most visible. They are part of what is loosely labeled the “Prosperity Movement”. They believe/preach that God has promised Earthly riches to his followers if they will simply have enough faith. . . such faith to be evidenced by contributing to the ministry “needs” of the leader/preacher in question.

I believe that this “doctrine” is heretical and anathema. Various preachers, churches and televangelists teach this doctrine to one degree or another. Duplantis and Copeland are two of the very worst.

The great white flounder part III or so. Fishing yesterday morning I noticed a popping cork floating towards the pier. It was drifting so nothing was under it. When I picked it up twas the exact rig we lost twice. Same cork, same leader with weight and popping rig, same 3/0 hook. Maybe when the tide floats it back from where it came I’ll tie a note ‘Beware!’ on it.

Gasp, this is too much like August heat. Coming home from the plant nursery, my car thermometer showed 95 in the sun and mixed shade on the roadway. Miserable, and we’ve not even made it to June yet. Haven’t even got all the flowers planted outside yet.

  42. Texpat Avatar

It wasn’t predicted until last night. Weather freaks said it would be 77 to 78 today. Late last night they – wait, stop, it’s going to be in the 90s.

I was outside all day up near the New York state line and we hit 100-101 (96-97 real temp) heat index. There was something about this sun that was excruciating today. No wind, no breeze, not a leaf moving all day and humidity around 60 per cent. My crew nearly hit the heat exhaustion level. I had guys laying out in the grass in the shade trying to keep going. I’ve had days over 100 here, but nothing like this today.

I’ve been in 122 degree heat in the Sahara and 118 in Phoenix, but I never felt this hot before.
