CPAC is Over – Time to Crank up the Hit-Piece Machine

Another CPAC. Another Ron Paul landslide. What does it mean? Nothing. Just like in 2007 and 2008 where the good doctor won every straw poll on the planet by double digits, they’re hollow victories. Ron Paul is the “dot com bubble” of American politics. No money bomb is ever going to change that.
Apparently grown-ups, even young ones, are tiring of the standard Rombie tactics. Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) have excommunicated Dr. Paul:

The National Board of Young Americans for Freedom (YAF)—America’s oldest conservative-libertarian activist group—has, per curium, voted to purge Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) from YAF’s National Advisory Board.
YAF’s concern with Rep. Paul stems from his delusional and disturbing alliance with the fringe Anti-War movement.
“It is a sad day in American history when a one-time conservative-libertarian stalwart has fallen more out of touch with America’s needs for national security than the current feeble and appeasing administration,” said YAF’s Senior National Director Jordan Marks.

Paul’s isolationism (spare me the “non-interventionist” whine) is dangerous. It’s good to see sane libertarian-leaning groups recognizing this.
Warner Todd Huston identifies the problem with Rombies pretty well:

But, the silliness of the straw poll isn’t the only reason why Paul is over the top. We’ve already discussed his wrong-headed foreign policy ideas above, but here is the other thing… his supporters are uncivil punks.
Seriously. They are rabid, grossly over amped, childish, petulant, stick any negative description here and they are it. CPAC is a conservative event. But it is one for adults. Not the loud, unruly children that Ron Paul has repeatedly sent to the event. CPAC should be a place where all versions of Republicans and conservatives (which are assuredly not synonymous, of course) can come to hear speeches and learn what all sides of the conservative movement are thinking. We should sit and listen attentively like grown ups and not constantly boo people with whom we disagree.
Unfortunately, the Paulies don’t seem to have been paper trained enough to understand the sort of decorum that is incumbent upon them. They act like the teenagers they are, those with over simplified ideas and not enough experience to know history or reality.
Listen, I am not for dumping principles, to “get along” with other conservatives with whom I disagree. But this is our big tent and we shouldn’t sit her passively while the Paulie circus act craps all over our floor.

There you have it. If you give no respect, expect no respect. You cannot act like spoiled prepubescents when adults are speaking and then be offended when you’re sent off to bed without supper. These idiots are indistinguishable from the “anarchists” common at recent G20 events.
At best, Ron Paul has become the doddering old uncle you have to invite to Thanksgiving dinner. No one wants him there but he’s your grandmother’s brother so he has to be there. Just don’t let the young’uns sit in his lap.
Perhaps it’s time Dr. Paul reevaluate his relationship with the party under whose banner he runs. Goodness knows the Republican Party needs some reforming but if you have more in common with Dennis Kucinich than the Republican Party you may just be in the wrong place.

We are all stuck watching our country being spent out of business, and the more we yell about it, the faster they spend it knowing that the trough will be empty soon. This is scary. That is where I find myself too. I know people tire of hearing “tipping point” but I fear that we are really there now. Political… Read more »

The problem is not necessarily Dr. Paul stuffing the ballot box. The problem is having the straw poll in the first place. I reviewed a few of the speeches given at CPAC, and there were some good ones on domestic activities, foreign affairs, government spending, and the like, but (I’m sure by design) no one put them all together. They… Read more »

I’d like to see West in Congress a couple of terms, get some choice committee assignments, and stir things up. Then run for president.

If the puppies try to nominate Ron Paul or a McCain or Dole type, or that lib in conservatives clothing Mitt Romney, we as a country are finished. We can not survive another terd like the foul “O”. we MUST TURN THIS AROUND. To those tern-nozzle wipers that say “freezing spending ” where it is now, I say “wake up,… Read more »

Wow, Paulbearers get quite a spanking from two sources. Too bad Dick Cheney didn’t tell the kids to shut up and go stand in the corner instead of sit down when they booed him at CPAC.

Nevertheless I believe that Dr. Paul is a loyal, patriotic American who desires only the best for his country.

If it weren’t for his embrace of Trooferism I might agree.

I think Dr. Paul’s notions about foreign affairs are wrong – dangerously so. They amount to a practical isolationism, regardless of the euphemism that you use to name it. Nevertheless I believe that Dr. Paul is a loyal, patriotic American who desires only the best for his country. And he is willing to work selflessly to make it happen. I’m… Read more »
