I hear that we’ve had our last freeze – for a while, anyway. I uncovered my garden this morning, and I’m afraid my lettuce may not have made it through this last cold snap. My thoughts now turn to starting some new victims seeds for the upcoming spring garden.
I also need to do some housecleaning. We do, after all, have a graduation/engagement party coming up. Spring cleaning was due, anyway. It is a gargantuan task, in a house this large, so I guess I must begin now. Maybe if I tackle it a little at a time…but then, little time is all I have! I still have to manage our business, my family, and performed my daily chores. I need to start sleeping better, so I’ll have more energy. Perhaps the right music to get me moving? Nova Menco has always been great housecleaning music for me.
How are you preparing for the upcoming spring? Making plans for the summer?
The couch is now cleared off for company. (One item off my list….)

I so totally agree.
Yes, when Hubby’s snoring drives me from the bedroom, it might be nice to have a nice, warm, quiet place to sleep. 😉
Tedtam, perhaps it might help if you thought of him as the Catholic equivalent of the Church Lady. 😉
Also, I’m no psychic but I think I see a greenhouse in your future.
Ah, yes, spinach seedlings growing, and I’ll be seeding a few squares soon. I’ve killed the kohlrabi before, but it did give it the old college try. I have some swiss chard, but haven’t had much luck with it. Not like that’ll stop me! 😉
One square of collards. Not big on collards, but going to give ‘em a try once this year. There are other greens you could try. Mustard, Swiss Chard, Kale, Kohlrabi, Turnip Greens, and many others. Most have a bit milder flavor; all are very nutricious and good for you. Don’t forget spinach. It’s not really related, but is still very… Read more »
Bob42, I just don’t see how he was able to achieve ordination at any level. This man is personally responsible for destroying a well-oiled confirmation team, wissing off and running off the whole Spanish choir, almost demolishing the altar server program, being personally responsible for the decline of the high school faith formation class, and offending an untold number of… Read more »
Well, we had a lemon butter sauce on our chicken tonight, using a lemon from my lemon tree. We also had a salad with lettuce from our garden. I planted some more lettuce in the garden. One square of collards. Not big on collards, but going to give ’em a try once this year. I read an article about what… Read more »
On a lighter note, Tedtam’s explanation was so accurate, I’m dedicating this tune to her, and her blues over her deacon.
#92 Mharper42 There are two types of deacons in the Church. The first is a transitional deacon, which we are lucky enough to have. This deacon is on his way to becoming ordained priest; his diaconate ordination allows him to perform certain functions a lay person (not ordained) would not be able to do. He can preside over wedding and… Read more »
TT, what is a deacon in a Catholic church, and what does he do? I thought there was a priest who administered each church, similar to a preacher in a Baptist church.
#89 Yep, simple, easy, and elegant. Thanks Tim 🙂
Sure is an easy time of year for the first Roundup spray. If it’s green, it shouldn’t be there, kill it.
It began like this: Honey can we swing by Walmart after church? Then it went like this: Honey, you know my brother from Longview who came to visit on Friday and spent the night, and wanted to talk to 3 AM? Well he left his shaving kit, and they are leaving my other brother’s in Porter, can we meet him… Read more »
I’m sure he was joking. RUSH: You’re more than welcome. I’ve got the solution to all this. I’ve got the solution to most crime in America. From this day forward, somebody propose it, liberals should not be allowed to buy guns. It’s just that simple. Liberals should have their speech controlled and not be allowed to buy guns. I mean… Read more »
Tedtam, by chance is the new Mr. Deacon related to Joe Biden? 🙂
I was just outside, dropping some seeds into soil and removing weeds from the mountain of dirt in our backyard. I drew not only first blood of the season, but the first wissin’ mosquito.
Wissin’ blood-sucking wissers. Can’t even wait until March.
79 I can empathize TT.
Agree with mharper42 in #67. The thing won’t properly fit cup holders built for conventional cans. Gravity can have fun with it in a moving vehicle or ice chest. Did anybody see mention of its capacity being the same as the conventional can? Never mind all the supposedly deep subliminal message garbage.
IMHO New Pepsi Can = Edsel 😉
Just my luck… For a couple of months now, I’ve noticed a new face at church. She visibly enjoys our music, and in chatting with her at coffee hour I’ve learned that she has a nice, easily induced laugh, is not too young, got her masters, and her youngest is in college. I’d made up my mind to ask her… Read more »

There isn’t one. It would asplode trying to figure out what wimmins want/mean.
OK,…Under the heading of you Can’t Make This $#!T UP; THOUSANDS of British women are so desperate for a bigger bottom they are risking their lives by taking pills designed to fatten up chickens. I always thought that MOST women think that their BUTT is too big!?!? Dayaam, I wish I had a secret decoder ring. ❓
#71 WB I never had a Wang, remember? I’ve made it through the reception for our new deacon without once having to talk to him. His wife did come up and hug me and thank me for my support, without which they couldn’t have done it. We normally attend different masses on Sunday, and this is the woman who for… Read more »
Warning: Hal “wrapped” one of those pix oddly and you can’t step back from it… Sorry.

Ok, here I go again, dissing Michelle Obama. I came across a big slide show of the presidential couple through the years and actually thought I’d find some new tacky fashions from which to get a laugh. But for the most part, Michele looked good in her clothes, had good hair days, and usually had a big smile on her… Read more »
Yerp is so au courant.
re: the skinny Pepsi can.
They’re all over the place in Italia, and I imagine the rest of Yerp as well.
#68 Tedtam, we currently have an “interim” minister at our little UU church as we spend the 18-24 months it will take to find a permanent replacement for our prior minister who moved on earlier this year. The interim is a nice enough guy, as well as experienced. But he’s a little boring. I hope they find someone more like… Read more »

What about your Wang?
67: I think some of the critics are unstable.
#68 TT
Did I mention you can do that on your iPhone now? 🙂
Well, my hamstrings and other body parts (which I’m not mentioning, remembering the crowd with which I am conversing) are sore today. It’s a good kind of sore, letting me know that I enjoyed yesterday afternoon in productive ways. I now have to go back to church to celebrate our new permanent deacon. It’s a wonder he was ordained, the… Read more »

I think the skinny can looks unstable, like a 6′ model walking on 6″ stilettos. 🙂

Must be a Yankee, doesn’t know much about the wild wild west out here in Texas.
From the department of the easily offended.

Ditto Super Dave’s #61. 🙂
#60 yeah I caught that too. I don’t think Rex meant to purposely insult Houstonians in such a manner so I’ll overlook it.
Good morning all. Well yesterday afternoon we (mostly spouse) hauled the plants out of the garage where they’d spent the last 11 days in sanctuary and survived nicely. They likely needed sunglasses for the shock of all that wonderful light. And a car, banished outside for that period, regained its rightful place in the garage after I swept up the… Read more »

Cute article, but that Rex Murphy must not be a sports fan. I’m not either, but even I know that the ice on the Super Bowl stadium was NOT here in Houston… 😀
Heh heh. With Gilligan…the skipper too Here was a true mating, a yoking of heart-breaking genius. Gore, an imperious, lugubrious, dour and insistent one-cause Doomsday machine, a kind of oversized Spock without Spock’s lavish sense of humour, needed something of Olbermann’s manic, untethered zest. Did anyone see this; Texas Rep. Luap Nor captures CPAC presidential preference straw poll. The Republican lawmaker, long a favorite of the party’s libertarian wing, took 30 percent of the votes cast, followed by Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney with 23 percent. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who has said he will not be a candidate in 2012, and New Mexico… Read more »
It’s clearly a conspiracy.
Speaking of conspiracies, it’s time to see if I’ll get excommunicated from the UU church for conspiring to bend the new rules on alcohol. Between services, me and a few other other choir members are going sip some wine and sing a song next to our good friend’s tree.
I’m thinking we’ll get away with it.

Especially when the questions are as nuanced as those were!
Here are my results, Bob42:
FWIW, I don’t really trust that assessment all that much. Individual political views are too nuanced to be neatly wrapped up by a multiple choice quiz.
