Mornin’ Gang
It’s the weekend!! -
Good morning Hamsters. Pleasant 74 at 6, a few gaps in the clouds, and the ground mist that will hang around invisibly all day. Lots of colorful stuff out in the Gulf moving toward the Houston area. Yesterday we got a whole tenth of an inch, but today is another day.
As for the spelling test above, would love to know the age and education level of the person who took it. The answer is probably chilling. -
My copy of The Perfect Horse just arrived in todayโs mail. It is a scholarly work containing extensive footnotes, bibliography, image credits, and index
Ms Adee, please let us know how it is.

Grandkids over for a sleepover, four yr old is non stop Barbie on the Netflix and watching every single move the almost one yr old makes, he is into everything! What a blast.
Down to the neighborhood park pond a little later in the UTV, aka ‘the truck’, to feed the ducks and fish a bit. -
Well my son-in-law is in Charleston SC going through 6 weeks of FLETC training on the Cooper River. When he lived in Richmond he had a neighbor whose daughter met a guy from Aiken SC, going to underwater welding school in Houston. So the kids get married and move to his home. Aiken is about 2 hours from the coast and Deer season opens this weekend there and Jeffery, is, as we speak, hunting! Is that neat or what?
-
Daughter rolled in last night to visit us and friends in League City, Friendswood and Richmond. Daughter-in-law just dropped off my granddaughter for the day and since my wife is working about 3 hours this morning, daughter will be her tag team partner.
Off to get my ears lowered, YUP,….”Life is Good”! -
#5 Super Dave
Read up to Chapter 5, p. 43 last night, went to bed at 11:45.
ORDER THE BOOK. ๐ Amazon has it discounted, recommend hardback version.
The descriptions of the Germans involved thus far will mostly freeze your blood. So will descriptions of some of their contemporary idiot American “Progressives” of the 30s. (Our contemporary radical socialist loons are their second generation spawn; brats of the 60s were the first generation spawn.)
Descriptions of the horsemen and the horses make them breathe on the pages. You can virtually reach out and touch them.
My only suggestion would be for the author to have included a diagram of the dressage arena for greater clarity to complement her excellent description of it in the first chapter. -
Morning, Couch Critters. I took a small chip off a sleeping pill last night and had a good night’s rest. The older I get, the more prone to laying there awake I become. I usually just turn on the radio and listen to something if I can’t sleep.
-
Mharper –
I, too, finally got a good night’s rest. I think I’ve reached my stress limit and just had to shed it last night.
I’m trying not to worry about Mom’s future with the Harpies, but it’s her choice. So last night, I just chilled and after repeated nights of shortened sleep, I slept hard.
I reaching out to a gal friend that I haven’t seen in a while. I’m hoping she’s available. She’s one of those friends that when I see her, it’s like we were just visiting yesterday, even though it might’ve been months. I’m hoping to find diversion for the whole day. Screw family issues. I’m guessing that BCS & Co. won’t have need of my legal services as POA over the weekend.
The book sounds good. I do like to read…. -

From yesterday
Yeah yeah yeah Iran and Russia are bullies.
AND the United States is all talk
You simply cannot look at Russia and the Middle East etc through the rose colored glasses of American rah rah patriotism. Russia has solidified its position in the region in friends and relationships. The United States has ceded not only its influence but power around the world. Our administration has become a bowl of quivering jello. Putin and Iran (along with the rest of the world) knows this country is nothing more than a yapping ankle biting dog. All talk and no do. Russia continually probes our defenses and demonstrates that the United States is nothing more than a paper tiger. Iran has just proven they can get close enough with their small boats to do massive damage to our ships. Or did you forget the Cole?
Iran and Russia to name a few are sparking for a fight. Iran is doing what it is doing for two reasons. They know the United States is not going to respond with overwhelming force. They have Russia standing behind them.
There is a real reason why the United States has not finished much less won a war since WWII. But that is a discussion for another day. -
I keep seeing ads about the latest class action lawsuit: talcum powder’s link to ovarian cancer.
It says that talcum powder unevenly affected black women.
I find it hilariously funny that this headline tries to make TALCUM POWDER racist. Like a powder can determine the skin color of the user, and then act on its own against those with more pigment?
It’s a culture thing, not a talcum thing. -

I said many years ago in one of our LST discussions that Russia would make a comeback in power and influence. They have done just that. ๐ -

All they’ve got going for them right now is blackmail using their oil, which isn’t near as effective as it used to be now that its cheaper than the dirt it come out of and the fact that Obama is apuss—wussy. -

-
Odd? So all Russia has is oil?
Israel’s Netanyahu frequents Russia as U.S. influence in Mideast recedes
India has signed 69 separate agreements with Russia in recent years
China and Russia have inked several pacts and treaties involving everything from trade to military back scratching
Russia and Turkey are quickly thawing relations
Israel while keeping a wary eye on Putin has been negotiating more with Russia and meeting more with Russia than America on matters of the mideast.
On the contrary the world cannot abide a power vacuum. The United States has abdicated its position as THE WORLD POWER. Putin has gladly stepped up to the plate. Putin wants and is seeking stature as the worlds #1 super power. He wants influence and he is getting it. Putin wants to control the oil and gas in the mid east region and soon there will be a war with Israel over that very thing. But I digress. You will note that the main players in this game are America’s traditional enemies. For years Russia has danced with the bad guys behind the scenes. Now he has come full bore into the open and yes the reason is oil. Putin knows he can now pursue his way in the mideast because the Saudis can no longer depend on the United States to “protect” them. Putin is consolidating his friendships in power by agreements and war. He will use every means he can to expand his influence and that includes turning off the gas spigot to Europe.
Really? You think the United States did not use it’s resources to coerce other nations to do their bidding. I would remind you that arms to Israel have always been a control point in our relations with them. -
Putin is a manipulative genius who uses the media and punk political rope-a-dope, proxy enforcers like Iran and Syria and the limited military tools he has to inflate his power and importance in the broad geopolitical world. If there were strong Western leaders like Reagan and Thatcher and somebody like Kohl running Germany, there wouldn’t be a worldwide vacuum of power and prominence in which this little Prince of Darkness could dance around and parade his Potemkin Village display of outsized arrogance.
Merkel in Germany with Major, Blair, Brown and Cameron in the UK, the Le Cirque de Castrati in France…and Obama…well, the thugs and totalitarians of the world have just been shaking in their boots for years. -

He’s got more problems than just not being the player he was once upon a time. He’s ultimately the only one who can fix that if it is fixable. This is not the way to encourage the kind of support he will need along the road to work his way back. -

I visited with my friend in Katy today. She’s one of those I-haven’t-seen-months-but-we-talk-like-it-was-yesterday kind of friends. She came all the way to my side of town for years, helping with Handsome Son’s many school ARD meetings, when we were reviewing test scores and setting up his educational program. Handsome spent some overnights there, with their boys. I wanted to take a mental health day, and she was willing, so I drove out there and we left in her vehicle. We spent a few hours walking around a home decor store, spending a good part of our time talking in the aisles. I got a few Christmas gifts. Then we went to Panera and got something to eat about 4:30. We sat and talked and talked and talked…about my second bathroom trip I looked out through the glass doors and discovered it was pitch black, and almost 9:00 PM!
We got back to her house shortly after to find 3 constable vehicles in their little cul-de-sac. Fortunately, my car was parked where I could leave, so after discussing the drunk neighbor who was cussing out the local constabulary in very loud tones, my car which happened to be the same model a friend of her son’s was considering, and various other items, I finally left. That 40 minutes discussion was the shortest good-bye we’ve ever accomplished. Usually it takes at least a good hour and a half and about five “good-byes” before we actually part ways.
It was good. I shouldn’t wait so long before I go see her again. -
Oh, and she shared an article with me about signs that indicate you are arguing with a psychopath. Unfortunately, they adopted a daughter with all those traits. Sharing our stories, I began to realize that as problematic as my situation is, they have a bigger row to hoe. Their grandson may also be the same. They don’t want to kick her out because she’d take their grandson and there is no way she could be a decent mother to him, if at all.
So, they have to deal with her behavior while caring for a grandson they love muchly, and hope for the best.
I will eventually be rid of my problems, or at least be able to walk away and get some relief.
Sometimes, it takes seeing bigger problems than mine to put things into perspective. Reading that article helped, too. I never thought of BCS as being psychopathic, but she sure fit a lot of the traits listed in the article. The last few sentences said to just nod and leave; life is too short.
PS: Friend also told me that she didn’t give Mom much more than 6-12 months, being moved away from the nursing staff that has cared for her for seven years. I agreed that this move is going to put Mom’s decline into high speed. -
Its likely a bullet proof vest.
I’d say it’s likely a cache’ of hard drives in need of Bleachbit.
Tough hard drive bytes can leave a stain of incriminating evidence, so don’t just Shout it out, Bleachbit it out.
But just remember, there was no intent, according to F.I.B Deflector J Comey Dumbseau. -
Good morning couch critters, get up – you’re burning daylight.

America’s original “Sugar Daddy”.
Adolph Spreckels had decided to kill the editor-in-chief of the San Francisco Chronicle.
The year was 1884, and the 27-year-old Spreckels wanted revenge over an article the Chronicle had published about his familyโs company, the Hawaiian Commercial and Sugar Company. Spreckelsโ father was known as the Sugar King because heโd grown rich by monopolizing the sugar trade between Hawaii and the West Coast. The Chronicle regularly denounced the Spreckels monopoly, and a recent article charged that the company was insolvent and that Spreckels and his father had misled and defrauded shareholders.and,
Today, this history is largely forgotten. Instead, San Francisco remembers Adolph Spreckels for his philanthropy, which created landmarks like the Legion of Honor art museum, and for his status as the nationโs first โsugar daddy.โ With the riches earned from the sugar monopoly that the Chronicle criticized, Adolph Spreckels married Alma de Bretteville, a working class girl turned nude model who never hid her ambition to marry a wealthy, older man. According to local lore, Alma called Adolph her โsugar daddy.โ

I’ve never seen a tree stump that could eat chain saw blades quite like this big juniper stump. All the sticky sap and relatively hard wood make the cutting slow. Of course, if I had a big lumberjack style chain saw instead of a little dinky one it would probably slice right through it. I’m hoping eventually to have it cut 4 to 6 inches below ground level so that I can just cover it up with sod and walk away. Nothing is easy any more.

Wow, the Wild West was not far removed. -
Good morning Hamsters. Bright and sunny for openers but now the clouds have moved in. Light rain early in the am left maybe a tenth of an inch or a smidge more.
Radar shows a big glob around the low pressure area out in the Gulf that slowly creeps ashore. Sun disappeared here in overcast, and whatever rain will eventually show up is being really coy about it.
Good for Tedtam’s outing with her dear friend yesterday. May the peace and strength from that hold on a long time. -
Morning, everyone.
I agreed that this move is going to put Momโs decline into high speed.
Tedtam, my dear, considering that your family had picked out a casket for her earlier this year, and all the signs were negative — and yet she is still here — I would not start the countdown just yet.

I would not start the countdown just yet.
From everyone I’ve talked to, this is a bad move for Mom. But knowing that Mom is okay with going at any time comforts me. When I last talked to her, I asked if she was excited about the move. “Well, it will be………an adventure,” she said. I laughed and said she gets little of those any more, and she smiled.
As I see it, if she get shortchanged on time, she’ll get to experience some change, make some new friends, and the Harpies will fawn over her and give her attention, which she craves. If she gets more time than I think she will, she’ll adjust and live long enough for her and them to revert to form. Then we’ll see what happens.
I get to go to church and help register newmeatstudents for the upcoming catechetical year. So far, I have two retreads from last year, a couple of brothers who thought they knew everything and decided to cut class. I guess they didn’t know everything after all. -
Well, well, well. Here’s the real story behind that Kapernick sportsing guy’s refusal to stand for the National Anthem. Nothing that was divulged by the MSM, of course — if they even bothered to look into it at all.

This is a good article with photos about coral and other tricolor snakes. It is really dangerous to get bitten now by a coral snake because the US anti-venom supply has expired and the only alternative is a South American antivenin blocked from import by the FDA.
I’m pretty sure I knew “red and yellow kill a fellow, red and black friend of Jack” before I started school. One very notable fact to consider when dealing with any U.S. Coral snake, is that production of Coral Snake antivenin (Coralmyn) was stopped and the remaining stock of this antivenom expired in 2010. Ongoing tests have since lead to several extensions on the expiration date, but medical facilities in Florida have recently announced that they have very few vials of the serum left. Because there are so few Coral snake bites, the serum was deemed too expensive to produce, which adds to the risk of new bite victims. There is an effective antivenom available from South America, but so far the FDA refuses to allow it to be imported. In July of 2015, it was reported that the U.S. is looking into a new Coral snake antivenin.

Very helpful article. One most important caution given that corrects a popular fallacy:
We’ve heard that because these snakes have small mouths that they can only deliver a serious bite to humans if they get you in the fleshy webs between the fingers. Not so sayeth the author, a bite delivered anywhere can also be lethal if not immediately treated. So do not disturb them, do not try to pick them up, and leave them behind. -
It is rather humid outside. The humidity did not stop me from doing the lawn, however. I am in dire need of a shower now as I stink like a wet nasty swamp rat.

I’m pretty sure that hilliary will get this all straightened out when it’s her turn
http://usdefensewatch.com/2016/08/ray-mabus-social-experiment-navy-is-steaming-ahead-to-disaster/ -
Yes, it IS humid, Bones. I decided to clean the big windows in the family room. That is the focus of our home life, looking out back where, night and day, there are critters for us and for the cats to watch. The outside glass gets dirty for the ordinary reasons, but the inside lowest 2 rows of panes get covered with cat snot. Perhaps “nose prints” is a classier word for what pets do to the windows they are looking out through.
I wanted to be thorough so I started at the top on a stepstool and used a cleaning brush to whisk away dirt and cobwebs, before I sprayed Windex. I can’t recall any other project when I filled up my rubber gloves with sweat in 30 minutes. I was a wet noodle by the time I could move inside to work on the nose prints. -
Hmmm, I guess maybe most outdoor projects, I’m not wearing rubber gloves.

Just saw a good flick. Hell or High Water is a modern day western set in West Texas, a story about two brothers robbing banks so they can pay of the reverse mortgage on Mama’s ranch. Chris Pine proves here thast he is a bit more than a pretty boy actor and Jeff Bridges plays a Texas Ranger on the verge of retirement on his last outlaw hunt. He plays the guy just the way he should: an old Texan who you’d swear you’d met before in some restaurant in a podunk town out in West Texas. The story is vintage western, but the details are modern, innovative, and interesting. Director David Mckenzie seems to know that if you make a movie in Texas, it has to be about Texas and Texans, and that will make it popular with everybody. His choices of location, characters, and soundtrack are spot on. Within the first few minutes you’ll feel like you knew all these guys before you came to the theater.
How good is the soundtrack? After the music under the opening credits, he opens with a shot of the West Texas Plains while this plays. It perfectly sets the time, place, and story and what follows doesn’t disappoint. Along the way you hear from Waylon, Chris Stapleton, and Billy Joe Shaver. Its almost as if he stole the CDs out of the dashboard of a pick up truck parked outside the Dairy Queen in Muleshoe.
This one is worth going to the theater for. -

Rain finally arrived here a little after 6, the last gasp of a rather vigorous storm making its way west from Sugar Land. Other than a brief overnight shower and a quick flyover shower late this morning, that’s been it. A whole 0.3″. But tomorrow is another day with a thus far anonymous low pressure area close to the coast here and the finally deciding to be a tropical depression over Cuba waiting to earn a name giving all the uncertainty we need.
Yea for the Texans. The new artificial grass looks like the real thing on TV anyway and is much better than the real thing in big squares with seams that caught cleats. It’s also nicer than other kinds of artificial grass elsewhere that look very fake. -

I’m trying to laugh.
