From the jihadi handbook, “The Management of Savagery” (Note: “Umma” is the term for collected society under Islam):

The management of savagery is the next stage that the Umma will pass through and it is considered the most critical stage. If we succeed in the management of this savagery, that stage (by the permission of God) will be a bridge to the Islamic state which has been awaited since the fall of the caliphate. If we fail – we seek refuge with God from that – it does not mean end of the matter; rather, this failure will lead to an increase in savagery!!
/snip
But the interesting thing that happened is that these two superpowers [Russia and America] believed, for a time, their media deception: that they are actually a power capable of completely controlling any place in the entire world, and that (this power) bears the characteristics of the power of the Creator. According to the media deception, it is an all-encompassing, overwhelming power and people are subservient to it not only through fear, but also through love because it spreads freedom, justice, equality among humanity, and various other slogans. When a state submits – whatever the extent of its ability – to the illusion of the deceptive power and behaves on this basis, that is when its downfall begins. It is just as the American author Paul Kennedy says: “If America expands the use of its military power and strategically extends more than necessary, this will lead to its downfall.”
/snip
Several elements that cause the collapse of this entity are summarized in the statement, “elements of cultural/civilizational annihilation” such as the
corruption of religion, moral collapse, social iniquities, opulence [al-taraf],
selfishness, giving priority to (worldly) pleasures, the love of the world over all values, etc.
/snip
n summary, the contemporary renewal movement was purified after momentous events and battles severely damaged it and it accumulated experience during more than thirty years. It must (now) undertake some of the specific operations arranged systematically and (carry out) what began with the operation of Nairobi and Dar al-Salam for the achievement of the following goals (by the grace of God):
A – The first goal: Destroy a large part of the respect for America and spread confidence in the souls of Muslims by means of:
(1) Reveal the deceptive media to be a power without force.
(2) Force America to abandon its war against Islam by proxy and force it to attack directly so that the noble ones among the masses and a few of the noble ones among the armies of apostasy will see that their fear of deposing the regimes because America is their protector is misplaced and that when they depose the regimes, they are capable of opposing America if it interferes.
B – The second goal: Replace the human casualties sustained by the renewal movement during the past thirty years by means of the human aid that will probably come for two reasons:
(1) Being dazzled by the operations which will be undertaken in opposition to America.
(2) Anger over the obvious, direct American interference in the Islamic world, such that that anger compounds the previous anger against America’s support for the Zionist entity. It also transforms the suppressed anger toward the regimes of apostasy and tyranny into a positive anger. Human aid for the renewal movement will not dry up, especially when heedless people among the masses – and they are the majority – discover the truth of the collaboration of these regimes with the enemies of the Umma to such an extent that no deceptive veil will be of use and no pretext will remain for any claimant to the Islam of these regimes and their like.
(C) – The third goal: Work to expose the weakness of America’s centralized power by pushing it to abandon the media psychological
war and the war by proxy until it fights directly. As a result, the apostates among all of the sects and groups and even Americans themselves will see that the remoteness of the primary center from the peripheries is a major factor contributing to the possible outbreak of chaos and savagery.
/snip
– Diversify and widen the vexation strikes against the Crusader-Zionist enemy in every place in the Islamic world, and even outside of it if possible, so as to disperse the efforts of the alliance of the enemy and thus drain it to the greatest extent possible.
For example: If a tourist resort that the Crusaders patronize in Indonesia is hit, all of the tourist resorts in all of the states of the world will have to be secured by the work of additional forces, which are double the ordinary amount, and a huge increase in spending. If a usurious bank belonging to the Crusaders is struck in Turkey, all of the banks belonging to the Crusaders will have to be secured in all of the countries and the (economic) draining will increase. If an oil interest is hit near the port of Aden, there will have to be intensive security measures put in place for all of the oil companies, and their tankers, and the oil pipelines in order to protect them and draining will increase. If two of the apostate authors are killed in a simultaneous operation in two different countries, they will have to secure thousands of writers in other Islamic countries. In this way, there is a diversification and widening of the circle of targets and vexation strikes which are accomplished by small, separate groups.

There is lots more, if you can bear to read it. It’s an interesting insight into the enemy’s mind. Scary, how much thought they’ve put into this world wide caliphate.

The crickets are strong this morning.

MIL is in need of chauffeur service later. She’s getting shots for back pain again. She had surgery several years ago, thank goodness. She was hurting so much I thought she might actually commit suicide just to escape the pain. She’s been really active and happy since, so the recurrence of her back pain is worrisome. Obviously, her stenosis problem is returning, probably in another section of her spine. She’s much older now, and I don’t know how docs feel about performing spinal surgery on a 78 year old woman. The insurance company will make her jump through the hoops before approving surgery, so I’m sure she’ll jump through them just as fast as she can.

While cooking breakfast, I made some firestarters for my next foray into barbecue. Since fire and I are not on the best of terms, I have tried many things to get the dang fire going. I have found that the cardboard egg cartons + the small tea light candles work very well for me. So, while my bacon was cooking (BACON!) I melted some extra candles that I haven’t set flame to in years and poured the melted wax over some cardboard egg cartons filled with dryer lint, which I save for this purpose.

Now, I just need to cut them apart into smaller sections and wait until I pull out my next rack of ribs for the pit.

Re o\c topic: The real good news is that we now have no more excuses as to who/what the enemy is. The enemy is at active war with us and if we refuse to adequately respond it is the equivalent of suicide.
The text above is islam, no qualifiers are necessary. As distasteful and irrational it is to our modern, Western cultural mindset, that is the mindset of our enemy and we are fools if we fail to respond appropriately.

Just wad up some newspaper or a paper grocery sack and put it in the bottom section, fill the top section with charcoal and light the bottom. If you are impatient and/or the charcoal is damp, you can use a hair dryer to make mini blast furnace. Works. Every. Time.

Wanted to get one, but Hubby didn’t like it for some reason. May get one anyway…except we don’t get newspaper anymore. And stores don’t use the paper sacks. Maybe I should start asking for paper. They have more uses around the house, anyway.

I found one of these to be useful when starting a charcoal pit. Plus the neighbors think I have a new jet airplane when I fire it up.

I was telling OH yesterday that Muslims are Martians, as far as our understanding their thought processes go. They don’t think in terms of hypocrisy in religious tolerance for example. We think “I believe what I want, and you believe what you want-and by demanding your religious rights but taking away the rights of other you’re being hypocritical and you should be ashamed”. They think “Allah Akbar! You are Muslim or your other options are dhimmitude or death. We are not ashamed or feel hypocritical because we are doing the work of Allah.” Their values are so different from ours that we have a disadvantage in diplomacy unless we accept this fact.

We think “we negotiate deals”. They think “we lie and make you complacent until we can kill you.”

We think “Women have rights”. They think “how many babies/jihadis can you raise to kill the infidel? Otherwise, shut up.” (Note: not all Muslim societies, but many.)

We think “give and take in diplomacy”. They think “How best to take advantage of your bleeding heart liberalism and further the ummah?”

We think “we don’t want to look like bullies”. They think “WEAKLINGS DIE!”

When we moved Dad, we got his propane pit. Hubby bought the propane bottle and prepared to hook it up — and realized that though the pit looked like it had never been used (though it had obviously sat outside for a while), it appeared to be missing the drip tray.

That reminds me – gotta go order it.

A great and glorious good morning Hamsters. Marvelous to walk down the driveway for the paper a bit after 5:30 and look up at a clear ebon sky filled with twinkling stars, the kind of clarity only a norther can bring. Orion was on his way to bed. You know it’s fall working toward winter when he is prominent in the sky. His silent constancy is comforting when here on Earth turmoil reigns in so many parts.

#14 TT : You are on target. It is impossible to negotiate with another whose intransigent starting point is: “We will kill or subjugate all of you, DEATH TO ISRAEL DEATH TO AMERICA”

Casually dismissing the above as “unhelpful ” is suicidal and/or abject stupidity. Unless and until we treat the enemy as the enemy he will gain on us and eventually destroy us.

There’s another suicide bombing in the St. Denis section of Paris according to Laura Ingraham just now. Paris is in lockdown. This time the perp was a woman in a burka in a heavily moslem area. Two commercial planes from the US bound for Paris have been diverted, one to Utah and the other to Nova Scotia.

There is no diplomacy with Islam. Unlike Americans they have a long term plan and EVERYTHING they do is geared toward that end. They want a world wide caliphate nothing more nothing less. The Koran demands it. But there is good news………. prophecy says that these people are going to suffer a devastating defeat and I believe we are going to see a huge uptick in their attacks for the near future, but soon Israel is going to kick their collective rear ends along with Iran and Syria with others. Damascus will be laid total waste. It is going by the book. The countries described in the prophetic books and passages of the Bible are lining up. It is quite a sight to see.

Arrange the charcoal like a volcano, with a hole in the center. Soak the heck out of them with lighter fluid and let sit for at least 5 minutes. Repeat, then soak again then stand back and light. Don’t cover, once you got some white coals stir ’em up.

Moral to the story, lots of lighter fluid.

Bonus – pizzes off the tree huggers.

Whew, several hours out cleaning up back yard, great weather for it. Pulling ruellia growing close to the fence, up by the roots was easy after yesterday’s 1.0″+ of rain. Got out the stepladder & pole saw, took some hanging branches off the pear tree, too close to the garage roof. Realized for the first time that there is invasive asian jasmine coming through the cracks between the fence boards, back behind the garage, so pulled up as much of that as I could. It didn’t seem to be rooted on my side, but I pulled in some streamers that were 6-8′ long. Glad I caught it early. Need to clear all vegetation for a foot back from that fence so I can keep an eye on it.

I may pitch to that neighbor a joint effort to eradicate all the A.J. from both our yards. But he doesn’t do any of his own work, and I don’t trust his yard crew to do a very good job. They’ve been known (although NOT recently) to do crap like blow all the leaves off his side of our property line — onto my side. And it is HIS tree. Lazy workers unless someone watches or checks them.

Asian jasmine is so resistant to Roundup you can actually spray it to control grassy weeds in your established Asian jasmine beds. Probably need to use a product designed for woody vines. I don’t recall any product names though. I’ve been out of that business a long time.

I’m reluctant to spray any herbicides on ground cover. There are too many trees to risk it. I sometimes zap poison ivy leaves that are up on the fence on the other side of my back yard. Oh, these neighbors!!!!!!

Roundup only works when sprayed on leaves where it is absorbed and transferred throughout plant and kills it. It is inert when it hits the soil. Been using it under trees since it came out.
It’s the granular herbicides that can damage//kill a tree.
Never never use a weed and feed fertilizer. They should be banned.

Fingers crossed for the neighbors now in Colorado Springs (and buried in drifts) whose house next door to us is under contract for early December. I went over to check on possible storm damage from yesterday, fortunately none other than small branches down and some mushy spot in the yards.

Discovered a UPS package on a bench on their back porch, likely it got wet if not from the rain then from the heavy mist before the front came. It might have been there for a while. Anyway I brought it home an emailed the neighbors that it was here. Then checked their mailbox and discovered mail from a week ago that was crinkled from the humidity but otherwise intact. Don’t know how long USPS forwarding is good for these days. Anyway tomorrow I’ve got a box to send via UPS and mail to send by Priority Mail, as some of it is financial stuff.

Guess I need to check their back porch and mailbox regularly now.

Courtesy of Wiki, the History of Westheimer Road…

Westheimer Road and Westheimer Parkway are named after Mitchell (Michael) Louis Westheimer,[9] a prosperous German Jewish immigrant and flour salesman who had settled in Houston in 1859.[10][11] He purchased a 640-acre (2.6 km2) farm west of Houston’s city limits at the time, where Lamar High School and St. John’s School are currently located. Having built a school on his land for his 16 children, other local children were invited to join the school, as a public school system was not established in the area. The road that led to his property was known as “the road to Westheimer’s place” and wound through what would later be Neartown and River Oaks.[11][9]

In 1895 Westheimer allowed Harris County to build a right-of-way for a road stretching from Houston to Columbus and Sealy; this road became Westheimer Road.[9]

Dang. They left out Sarge’s role.

At the rate the squirrels are eating the pumpkins out front, all that will be left will be shells on the compost pile when the frost arrives. So far critters have left the ones on the back porch alone.

    Ben Domenech at The Transom:

So is this a significant moment – a moment when the press is finally dropping the protective bubble they have put around this president, or not? I think it is significant, and that the press conference the other day was the turning point. CNN’s Jim Acosta: “I wanted to go back to something you said… earlier when you said you have not underestimated ISIS’s abilities. This is an organization that you once described as a JV team, that evolved into a now occupied territory in Iraq and Syria and is now able to use that safe haven to launch attacks in other parts of the world,” Acosta noted. “How is that not underestimating their capabilities? And how is that ‘contained,’ quite frankly?” he asked (Obama referred to ISIS as “contained” in an interview the day before the Paris attack took place).”

At some point, the fact that Obama’s view is so at odds with reality was going to catch up to him. We are now at that point. “I read the intelligence faithfully. ISIL is not contained, ISIL is expanding,” Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.), the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell on Monday, using an alternate acronym for the group.” Smart Democrats are going to recognize the reality of the situation: that we are about to enter the post-Obama era, and that this period is not going to be a good one for those who share his delusions about the effectiveness of his policies.
