The dawg reminds me of my Shepherd, Chopper, I always left tennis balls on the fence so he’d let the meter readers in. I came home one day and HL&P was working on the transformer in my back yard, three working on it, one play ball with Chopper. 😀

Happy Monday, yall.
I wonder if it will be a bloody one on Wall Street? -

Don’t worry about the markets. The Fed will just turn up the printing presses and crank out more money to replace all that “lost” money, and presto, problem solved. After all, it’s only paper losses anyway, isn’t it?

Contemplating quitting my Faith Formation career.
This DRE is making it more frustrating than rewarding. I’m not leaving the students without a teacher – because our DRE is STILL looking for catechists at this late date and there isn’t anyone to step in to take my place. But if things don’t change, I may well be having Wednesday nights free next year.

TT, my dear, if you move to a different church, won’t they have you teaching for them? Don’t tell me you wouldn’t let them know or volunteer.

Jack Lew is a certified idiot.
HEADLINE: JACK LEW IN CHINA: CHINA’S MARKETS AREN’T ‘LINKED’ TO REST OF WORLD
Jack Lew, speaking at the Brookings Institution in July, confidently assured that Americans were immune from weakening markets in China.
“I will say that China’s markets still are pretty much separated from world markets,” the secretary of Treasury, said. “They’re, obviously, moving towards being more integrated, but right now they’re not.”
“So you’re not going to, I don’t think, see the direct linkage there,” Lew said.
“I think the concern, that is a real one, is what does it mean about long term growth in China.”
Soooooooooo Jack, dya need a spatula for all that egg on you face?

Leaving a church is a dreadfully difficult decision right up to the point that the decision is made. -

Leaving a church is a dreadfully difficult decision right up to the point that the decision is made.
This is so true. We’ve been attending this church since 1987, when we moved to this neighborhood. Turns out, I actually attended this church as a very young child, too! Then we moved to Pearland and began attending at St. Helen.
We have roots here, especially since I’m so active. Lots of friends. There’s a dear elderly couple that I have to hug each Sunday. Not that I have a problem making friends – as long as they’re not in the way of flailing arm gestures, I talk to just about everyone! – but I would find it difficult to leave so many friends behind.
We’d probably go to St. Helen. Queen of Peace is close, but I think they’re primarily a Hispanic church now, as ours is becoming. This coming Saturday’s catechist meeting is going to be an all Spanish speaking event, so even if I haven’t had my time one-on-one with our DRE, it wouldn’t do me much good to attend. (I haven’t had time to learn much Spanish; need to work on that. It is frustrating that we’ve had people at our church for 30+ years and still don’t know a lick of English, but I digress…)
St. Christopher is the next nearest, but again, I don’t know that I’d fit in there. For some reason, I just have a visceral reaction against attending there. From past interactions, the people are nice enough. I don’t know why I feel that way, but I do.
We’d probably head back to St. Helen. I grew up in that parish. We were married there. I have some contacts with the old-timers there, from when I was a kid in CCE and Youth Ministry. I feel more connected there than in my other choices.
As for volunteering right away, I might take a sabbatical. It might be that I just need some time off.

#20 TT: If the DRE is the problem have you gone to the DRE’s boss?
If yes and still no positive resolution, perhaps a sabbatical is a great idea – starting now. From what you have written before, your DRE is on a power trip. See how much power she has when you ask her to do it herself because you refuse due to the unreasonable restrictions placed on you by her.

Newsmachete ranks the GOP candidates. Only 8 of the 17 candidates are even mentioned, and only 2 get any kind words at all.

I think it’s the opposite. She’s trying to please everybody. Instead of managing expectations up front and teaching the parents and students how things should go, she’s managing things so as to wiss off the fewest number of people. Therefore, she sets things up to make lives “easier” for as many people as possible, and not necessarily what is “best” for our program.
And I think she believes that I’ll be here forever, because I’ve been here so long. I’m sure someone else could teach a 9th grade/pre-confirmation class. They just won’t be teaching MY class. I have a lot more hard content in my curriculum, which builds/starts from the watered down curriculum in the book. I do an evaluation at the end of each year. One consistent response I get is “I feel like I know my faith”. I don’t know of any other catechist that has taken the time to go outside of opening the book to the chapter of the week, then calling it all good. The DRE could find a warm body, but probably only a lukewarm heart for the teaching. Then again, maybe I could be wrong. Maybe she’ll find another teacher who’s all afire. I haven’t seen one yet, though….she’s dragging the bayou for teachers right now.
And the students will continue to be ignorant of their faith….that’s what bugs me. I hate to walk on the kids.

OK, this presents things in a bit of a different light. Keeping the faith is not something that is to be taken lightly, nor is it always easy. In fact, THE WORD says that when – not if – adversity comes one must keep to first principals. She is not willing to stand up for what is right and in the process making it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to properly teach the class. By being easy (for everyone else) she is denying them (the students most importantly and also the parents by example of their children) the character building opportunity of facing a bit of adversity and prevailing over it.
There is quite a bit to understanding the Catholic faith; if your DRE is not going to allow you to properly teach it, the students get less than what is required and they will not be prepared to face the challenges that await them.
Perhaps your DRE is not thinking far ahead enough to make a good decision.
She is setting a poor example as to how to cope with stress and adversity by her caving in to the least common denomonator. -
Yep.

Nobody knows. They’ve never tried.

My biggest concern is the Muslim expansion. They’re a little obsessed with returning Spanish land that they claim was theirs before the Crusades.
They kinda of forget that it was Christian land before Islam and its swords arrived.

The question is is do I have the patience to spend a year proving to clueless how great I am and how clueless he is?
