There’s a lot of people who used to be Conservatives who aren’t Conservatives anymore because they point out that Trump is a loudmouth asshat who supports continued funding of Planned Parenthood, supports single payer healthcare, supports an assualt rifle ban, uses eminent domain to get rich, donates to Democrats, and gets phone calls from Bill Clinton.

    3. I got a letter yesterday from Allstate, which manages our flood insurance policy. It informs me that Congress passed a bill last year, called Homeowners Flood Insurance Affordability Act 2014.

Apparently Congress has been messing with the flood insurance program every year (news to me), mainly by delaying higher premiums that might cause the peons to revolt. Sorta like the annual “Doc Fix” for Medicare. Then last year they came up with a sure-fire plan to spread the wealth around. Like all gubmint programs, “Affordability” means cheaper for some, more expensive for others. A house that you live in now has a $25 surtax, while a house you own but not your “principal residence” now has a $250 surtax. Evidently most voters only own one house, and they live in it.

You see how fair and affordable that is, don’t you?

We are not a free people unless our malcontents can stand on the street corner and shout vile and repulsive thoughts. I’ve said this many times, but some just do not seem to grasp the concept – I’m not a Trump supporter, but he is most certainly free to say what he wishes when he wishes. I am free to listen to him or tune him out. Eric Erickson dis-invited Mr. Trump based on something Mr. Trump said, and Eric is certainly free to allow or disallow Trump to speak at his gathering. But, by doing so, Mr. Erickson exposed himself as the establishment Republican he now is – whether as a result of orders from up above (since he sold his company he now has bosses) or on his own volition. The point merely is, here is a guy who made his name by representing himself as a conservative, only to have seemed to “evolved” now that he reports to others. He’s now running around trying to make nice to all the people that he called names over the years, indicating that those who call him names are off balance (they probably are), and trying to play the victim card, but I just think that it is too late for him to rehabilitate his image.

I have had a few days to think about our discussion concerning the Army’s new policy of not training basics for immediate deployment to a theater of war. Have “they” silenced the blithering idiot? Maybe we’re just seeing reruns ad nauseum every day on every channel, but for someone who you suggest is being repressed I sure see him a lot.

  14. El Gordo Avatar

Who am I saying is repressed? Trump could buy Red State or any other blog he wanted if that were the issue, or even any of the TV networks. When someone outs themselves as a hypocrite or a fool, I have a hard time feeling sorry for them when they try to play victim. Trump is just being Trump and he can take care of himself – it’s the Fox News and Eric Erickson types out there who are trying to get back into the good graces of the conservative types.

    Well.

The article says nothing about Basic Training—which was the subject of the previous article.

I agree with all of the concerns expressed in this new article on this new subject of readiness and logistics, and I note that any problems that may have been caused by Basic Training would have been as a result of the previous method, not the one that has just been instituted. And that the changes to Basic Training may have come about because the Generals saw where they could make positive changes without appproval from the White House or funding from Congress.

Whining? Trump? I see it more as him calling out those that are engaging in the old demonize, shout down and distance themselves tactic. I see few of Trumps detractors actually debating his issues (few as they may be). Just a matter of perception i suppose.

It appears to me that the “R”s are afraid to engage the Donald. I think it is funny as hell that a whole passel of RINOs are accusing Trump of being a RINO.

  20. squawkbox Avatar
    squawkbox

The only thing I consider as whing from Trump was his not so veiled threat to run 3rd party if the “R” hierarchy is not nicer to him. Looking back at the events leading up to that statement the statement in total looks like whining. But the rest? Not so much.

  21. Hamous Avatar

It appears to me that the “R”s are afraid to engage the Donald.

I was speaking of him whining about the questions he was asked at the debate. “Wah! Megyn was very, very nasty to me!” He’s nothing more than a petulant little frat boy rich kid who’s not used to anybody standing up to him. All he’s got are playground insults. I’m not really interested in what the candidates say to and about each other. That’s all bluster and positioning.

Wulp that is not really what I heard. Again I plead perception. Present company excluded, but I chuckle at a whole bunch of people I have history with that wanted a fighter for a candidate. Some brash, take no prisoners type of candidate that will get back in the media’s face. they want a candidate that can get the media attention cause the “R”/”conservative” message cannot get out. And now they got Trump sucking the wind out the room and they are crying their hearts out. The media is whining about Trump getting so much coverage.

I caught Jimmy Fallon’s “Thank you notes” section last night. He writes TY note to various folks for really inane stuff. So he wrote one to the media. Picture Fallon sitting at the desk writing a TY note with a picture of 8/10 media logos superimposed to his left.

Thank you, the media, for complaining about how much coverage Donald Trump gets from the media. If only there was something you in the media could do about that.

No one knows what to do about the Donald. I think it funny. I have never watched his show, but this is the best entertainment going. The crazy uncle has shown up to the party and folks cannot stand it.

The house is about 40 yrs old, has about average attic insulation, and we did get spray-on radiant barrier in the attic long ago, plus had a ridge vent put on and more soffit vents added. So you have electric heat as well? That was a main reason we replaced the central systems in this house after we bought it in 1995 — 20 yrs ago on Halloween. The electric heat was very crummy and we had to supplement with portable electric heaters in several rooms. Heck, I couldn’t take a bath in January w/o first warming up the bathroom with a portable heater.

True, the house also has a fireplace but we have never even considered using it. Neither one of us grew up with a fireplace and we were afraid of it. But as part of the new central system, we got gas heat hooked up to the gas line in the attic. Now we can be as warm as we want to be in the winter, because the highest heating bill is typically only about half as high as the summer electric bills.

The previous owners did use the fireplace — possibly why they could stand the electric central heat — and there is still a log on the grate that they left there when they moved out. 🙂

But here is the main deal. There is not a single politician in the world that can right this sinking ship. We got 16 months of Obama left. I do not see this country surviving another year.

The second sentence is spot on correct. The next sentence is partially correct in my view. Yes, having Obama as dictator President is bad for the country but not the source of why the country is going downhill. Single parenthood, entitlement mentality, apathy towards God, religion, changing the definition of family, etc. show that the root of our societal decay is individual morality, which, as stated in the second sentence, no politician can correct. There must be a very significant change in the hearts of the people and that would naturally filter up towards having good politicians to choose from. The people must turn to the source of our freedom which is God. There is no way we can expect to be a free nation and reject God. Electing good politicians, naturally, will result in god things for our country, but the decay will continue to grow and amplify the number of bad politicians who get into office.

What’s required is individuals reaching out to individuals in charitable manner. I’ve concluded recently that there are many people who want to do good and will do good but they do not want to be burdened by doing good. In the end, people deny themselves and those around them of moments of charity. This can all start in our churches. How many people have we become familiar with in our church? How about a visit to at least some of them just to see how things are going and to offer help where we can? Very simple things like that can bring great changes. But, ironically, simple things like that are some of the most challenging things for us to do.

And real Conservatives won’t vote for Trump because they know he’s not one. Republicans will come out for him the same way Democrats will come out for Hillary or Bernie.

To win you need a candidate that Conservatives and independents can agree on–Trump isn’t the guy.

I seem to remember a guy who used to tell us “In politics, past performance is a true indicator of future performance.”

I wonder what ever happened to that guy?

You seem to think I am stumping for Trump. I am not.
If Trump was to become president he would be the antithesis of GWB in his style of governing. In fact I think in style he would put Obama to shame. Trump and I share one personality trait that would be real dangerous in the oval office. We are both head strong do as I say types without seeking the advice of very trustworthy people. Trumps evidence is when he went bankrupt. Guys like us do learn from our mistakes but those mistakes did not have to happen. Today we cannot afford someone in the oval office that does not have some very trust worthy advisors.

Trump has identified problems, he knows what the problems are but I am not sure he has considered the courses of action and pitfalls along the way. That bothers me.

Zurc Det is my guy and he is a pariah in the “R”party.

BTW “independent” voter thing is a myth propagated by the “R & D”s and a small bunch of idiots that want to get their 5 minutes of fame in a newscast. It just sounds so cool to say “I’m an independent” like they are some unwashed unsullied voters who hold the fate of AmeriKuh in their hands. Even I do not fit the “independent voter” thing.

The time to determine the future direction of the R party is now. Forget about Hillary or any of the other nut jobs out there right now. We are always told that we wind up with such lousy candidates because we don’t pay attention to the primaries – well this year we have some options which are spread across the R spectrum, and we have the opportunity to make a decent choice which should suit our individual needs. Given that, let’s hope the primary process is brutal – a dirty pool slugfest that shakes the party to its core. Then and only then do we conservatives have the chance to remain closely aligned with the R’s. If we lose and the establishment remains in control, then it’s truly 3rd party time and dissolution of the R’s would be no problem. In the interim, let’s keep slugging it out, calling names, kicking asses, and whatever it takes to try to right the ship. We can worry about whatever left wing buffoon the D’s put up later. Build on the strengths at the local and state levels, replace limp wristed congresscritters, and keep up the fight. And, don’t forget, we are playing long ball – it’s taken the left 75 years to get to where they are today, so it’s time to turn that around and think about the longer term direction we want to go.

I had an interesting ride on the toy train after church this morning. When I got on at the Central Station there was a HPD officer, a dude on a bicycle, and a dreadlocked dude. The cop got off at UHD. Then dreadlock gave bicycle dude some money and held his bike while bicycle dude rolled him two joints right out in the open.

I don’t like the 6102 Zurc Det meme because it makes Cruz sound extraterrestrial and nutty, as Luap Nor did for a guy who really was a nut. One of my FB friends (who describes his politics as “Federalism”) has remarked that Ted Cruz looks like a Romulan. I of course countered with this poster, which does not look like a Romulan at all.

I just learned recently that Trump did not have any personal bankruptcies that were caused by bad judgement or mistakes. His bankruptcies occurred when he bought companies that were already cratered, and then took them through the legal process of various kinds of bankruptcy in order to restructure them.

I shared this FB post, and Sarge took me to task for it over there, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t good information.

Spent all weekend helping my siblings move Dad from his house to a new apartment. I love my father, but he has some real issues – and those issues have negatively affected our relationships with him. I haven’t visited my Dad since he moved a couple into his home with him. My understanding is that they were living there rent free, and that they were supposed to help take care of him. Dad can’t drive anymore, so they took him shopping and to doctor appointments. None of us really liked or trusted the newcomers, and we avoided them. Especially since she had dogs that she let run loose, and I trusted those dogs about as much as i trusted them.

We were estate sale-ing Dad’s stuff that he wasn’t taking with him to the new place yesterday, packing and moving some of the items. Since I still shouldn’t be doing any heavy lifting, I took two loads to the new place. Sis picked up Dad about lunch time and took him to the new pad permanently; the rest of us were to close everything out without him. It would be easier that way. After Dad left, the two “caregivers” (more about that soon) then called their son to bring a trailer and they loaded up their stuff and bugged out to their own place. They didn’t have the guts to tell any of us that they had no intention of moving with Dad, as I had heard they were going to do. Talk about one ticked off group of kids. And then the husband had the nerve to try to bum cigarettes (demand is more like it) from my sisters while his stuff was being loaded. He was refused, which made him mad, which gave my sister a small sense of satisfaction.

I took Dad’s oxygen tanks to him and helped my sister do a few things before heading back to Dad’s to help finish up the sale. I was told that Dad got real wobbly when he heard the news that he had no caretakers. He’s used to having things done for him. Sis said he’s just going to have to make some adjustments – he’ll have to learn to clean up after himself for a change.

And cleaning up is something that he hasn’t done in a long time, nor has his “caretakers”. We wanted to lock up the house because we were afraid the “caretakers” were going to come back and take whatever they could lay hands on, and there was still stuff that we were planning on moving via trailer today. We were joking about where to hide a key for whomever arrived first today, and the response was “wherever there are cleaning supplies”. These people never cleaned a dang thing in that house. When I opened the bathroom door, I almost gagged on the yeast smell that darn near strangled me. There was a 3×3 foot area of tile missing in the shower, so if that shower ever got used, the water got back into the wall. The kitchen faucet/sink was sagging in the middle because the back wall had rotted out. When we couldn’t get the faucet to turn off all the way, I opened the cabinet door under the sink to reach the (broken) water supply valve. The impact of the mold in my face almost knocked me back on the floor. The counters were filthy and roach feces filled every shelf, drawer, and cabinet in the kitchen.

I’m glad Dad’s in a clean, safe environment. Elder Sis thinks he’ll be okay, but I have one sister who’s already said she’ll come by once a week to clean for him. (She quit cleaning when the “caretakers” arrived, because she wasn’t cleaning up after 3 people.) Dad will have her doing everything for him – because that’s how he’s been able to get by all these years. Even his own sister said he is the way he is because she’s babied him for so long.

I don’t know how much longer my father has to live. He’ll be living alone (though I have a strong suspicion that the seemingly nice but nosy neighbor across the way will be subsumed by my father’s neediness). I have two sisters within 15 miles, and one just a little further away, and they’ve all done take-care things for him in the past, so I guess that pattern will continue.

I cleaned Dad’s (nasty) large freezer today, and we reloaded his food hoard. There’s enough food in there to feed him for months, but I have a feeling that he’ll find a ride to the store to get more food that’s “on sale” soon. That, and cigarettes. He’ll be hoarding cigarettes, but at the rate that he smokes, I guess he’ll never get a good hoard on those built up.

I hope that he will turn over a new leaf and learn to take care of himself. He’s elderly, on oxygen, using a walker, but he’s far from incapable of taking care of himself. He’ll cook food without a problem, so he should be able to load a dishwasher, too. We’ve talked about nursing home options, but Dad’s vehemently against it.

It’s rough to see the decline, but I guess it’s all something we have to go through. How gracefully Dad adjusts to his new situation will reveal whether we’ve done the right thing by respecting his wishes to live independently.

  134. Tedtam Avatar

I do have to hand it to Hubby. He showed up two weekends in a row, paying our help to assist in moving my father. I spent all yesterday with Dad’s stuff, and came home to find that Hubby had washed all of the dishes.

Yep, he may drive me a little nuts, but Hubby’s okay.
