This building housed the first H-E-B (originally named the C.C. Butt Grocery Store) in Kerrville. Florence Butt opened the store in 1905 on the lower floor. Her family lived on the upper floor.
H-E-B founder, Florence Butt, behind the counter of her first store in Kerrville in the early 1900s. The original name of store was the C.C. Butt Grocery Store and was founded in 1905. Florence handed management of the Kerrville store to her youngest son, Howard Edward Butt, in 1919. By 1930, Howard had expanded the company to 17 locations across South Texas and renamed it the H.E. Butt Grocery Store.
