Weekend Unbridled Free Speech and Criticisms

Mark Tipton, Hamous, didn’t agree with me on the merits of Christopher Hitchens opinions. Hitchens was a notorious atheist and hostile to organized religion. I did understand.  Hitchens never acknowledged this as a God given right, but he made a famous defense of it nonetheless.

I bring him here because there have been few people to argue as intelligently and articulately as Christopher Hitchens for this basic first right of human freedom.  Sorry, Hamous.

I’m up early, very reluctantly, because I have 8:00 mass and then a Catholic Daughters meeting afterward. At least my numbers are better, so I’m slightly happy about it. It took me about 8 tries before I found two measurements that matched on my scale, but at least it was the lowest of all of them! Yay me!

I’ll take my wins however I can.

I saw an X message from Elon (via CFP) where his “blood is boiling” over the news he’s getting from his boots on the ground people. They’re reporting that FEMA is refusing to let them deliver supplies and rescue people.

This cold be a huge game-changer in the current admin’s election chances. I can see where my BETA will refuse to believe that kind of news, but there are more reasonable people who will be incensed over the (negative or -lack of-) response to these desperate fellow citizens.

Stine reports in this morning’s “Return to Tradition” podcast that the “Synod of Sin,” as he calls it, is promoting moral relativism in dealing with secular issues.

The Word of Christ is unchanging. What was a sin back then is a sin now. Moral absolutes have been the root of our faith for millennia. I despise this Pope and his entourage.

I pray daily for my Church. And the souls it is leading astray. “The road to Hell is paved with the skulls of priests, and the roadside lampposts with those of bishops.” Those clergy bear a huge responsibility for the souls of their flocks.

Yesterday on the Five they had a video of some loser named Melber, a PMSNBC talking head, having a meltdown about a Trump official, trial witness, endorsing Trump. It was great.

PMSNBC host shocked as impeachment witness says Trump regained his support: ‘So striking!’

Gordon Sondland, who served as then-President Trump’s ambassador to the EU and who became a star witness against him in his first impeachment, shocked an MSNBC host by saying Trump won his support once again.

MSNBC host Ari Melber spoke with three former Trump officials, including White House advisor Peter Navarro, White House spokeswoman Sarah Matthews, and Sondland about topics such as how working for the Trump administration has impacted their lives or what the most important thing was that they learned about the former president. Sondland in particular was asked whether he stands by a previous disavowal of the president after the events of January 6, 2021.

“No, I don’t stand by it, and I’ll tell you why,” Sondland began. “I’ve now lived four years under the Biden-Harris policies and I have to say that those policies are not only becoming an existential threat to our country’s way of life, but to our allies as well.”

The host loudly interrupted him and began shouting, “I’m going to let you finish, but this is so striking. You said it was a ‘no for me’ after that, after January 6. And here we are right now, And you’re saying it’s a yes for you?”

“It is a yes, for me. It is an absolute yes for me,” Sondland said. “That is how badly the Biden-Harris team have prosecuted their job.”

    And!

Melber continued speaking at a loud volume during the exchange: “But the whole point you seem to be making was that January 6th and that kind of attack on democracy is bigger than any policy-“

“I am seeing so many attacks on democracy that eclipse January 6th,” Sondland replied, encouraging Melber to ask him what those are. Earlier in the same panel, he had voiced his concerns about a future scenario where “if the Democrats are able to impose their desired program over the next several years, there will be massive voting irregularities.”

“I want to express is that I’ve now lived for four years under the Biden-Harris administration,” he said. “I live in a bucolic city of Portland, Oregon, which has been destroyed by those policies. Absolutely decimated. Businesses are suffering. My own business is suffering solely for political reasons and it’s all fixable and they don’t want to fix it.”

    Warning #1

At 8:22 am on December 4 last year, a car traveling down a small residential road in Alabama used its license-plate-reading cameras to take photos of vehicles it passed. One image, which does not contain a vehicle or a license plate, shows a bright red “Trump” campaign sign placed in front of someone’s garage. In the background is a banner referencing Israel, a holly wreath, and a festive inflatable snowman.

Another image taken on a different day by a different vehicle shows a “Steelworkers for Harris-Walz” sign stuck in the lawn in front of someone’s home. A construction worker, with his face unblurred, is pictured near another Harris sign. Other photos show Trump and Biden (including “F*ck Biden”) bumper stickers on the back of trucks and cars across America. One photo, taken in November 2023, shows a partially torn bumper sticker supporting the Obama-Biden lineup.

These images were generated by AI-powered cameras mounted on cars and trucks, initially designed to capture license plates, but which are now photographing political lawn signs outside private homes, individuals wearing T-shirts with text, and vehicles displaying pro-abortion bumper stickers—all while recording the precise locations of these observations. Newly obtained data reviewed by WIRED shows how a tool originally intended for traffic enforcement has evolved into a system capable of monitoring speech protected by the US Constitution.

Dang! I guess I better warn Tammy down the road since she has a Wiregrass for Trump sign in her yard. Why does this NOT surprise me?

      1. Texpat Avatar
        Texpat

That is one reason for the invasive surveillance – intimidation and fear. They don’t want people publicly expressing their opinions. It might be “misinformation” and that would be damaging to the democracy. It’s all psyops to make the citizens submit. Tell Tammy to put up more signs.

Few people around here would risk a Trump yard sign or bumpersticker. It invites vandalism and confrontation. There are too many thuggish left-wingers in this area. Now Jews in NYC are no longer wearing yarmulkes because they’re afraid of being attacked. Christians are being harassed at every turn. The only religion enjoying government support is Islam.

    Warning #2

How safe is the teenage girl riding an MTA bus home from the library when some deviant pervert can instantaneously accumulate her name, address, phone #s, email, social media, parents names, etc ?

In a shocking turn of events, someone was able to use a new high-powered tech product for evil. Two Harvard students paired the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses with facial recognition software to rapidly identify strangers and compile their personal information from the internet to highlight the privacy concerns that are getting unboxed with easily accessible consumer tech.

In a video posted to X, AnhPhu Nguyen and Caine Ardayfio explained how they built I-XRAY. The program uses the glasses to capture images of random people on campus and at a train station, identify them through a publicly accessible facial recognition search site like PimEyes, and then use a large language model (LLM) to trawl the web and compile the person’s information. Nguyen and Ardayfio could access people’s addresses, the names of their parents, and photos in mere minutes, and even approached unsuspecting people using the info they collected to make them think they had met before.

Check out the attached photo. “Protestors” standing in front of RFK Jr’s campaign HQ. When they were approached by a staffer, they couldn’t even speak English. Here’s $50, go stand in front of that building for 3 hours holding this sign. It doesn’t matter you can’t read it.

And if you’re a third-party candidate, better stay on your toes.

When RFK Jr. was perceived as a threat, the DNC paid for a billboard truck to follow all his campaign events. According to Politico, “The [RFK Jr.] website’s grassroots organizing forum was flooded with fake, provocative event pages. And a job ad from the progressive group MoveOn showed in real-time how progressive organizations are staffing up to confront the independent campaign.”

And the purpose of the MoveOn ad? According to RFK Jr.’s former campaign manager: “The DNC, via MoveOn, is openly hiring people to harass our campaign.”

The DNC also went after the Green Party and sabotaged Jill Stein’s campaign.

It’s 31 days until the election and I’m driving around Bergen County, New Jersey (population 962,000).

In 2020, Biden received 286,000 votes to Trump’s 205,000 here. There were lots and lots of Biden/Harris bumperstickers and signs in every neighborhood I drove through. There were also plenty of Trump signs, but not near as many.

The eerie thing about this election is other than a handful of Trump signs this year, I have yet to see a single Harris/Walz sign or bumpersticker anywhere. Pretty bizarre.

A study from June ignored by all the “scientists”. Alex Berenson quoted at PJMedia…

Covid-Vaxxed Kids Six Times Likelier to Die than Their Unvaxxed Peers

The study about Covid and asthma in American kids and teens has gone mostly unnoticed. It hasn’t been cited once since it was published in June.

Which may be why no one has raised an alarm over the stunning figures buried in its appendix about deaths among mRNA Covid-vaccinated kids.

They show that 354 of the 64,000 children and teenagers who received a Covid mRNA shot died within a year after vaccination – a death rate of almost six kids per 1,000.

In contrast, only 309 out of 320,000 unvaccinated kids died, fewer than one per 1,000.

Got home from church after our long CDA meeting. Had my first big meal of the day: eggs, bacon, leftover brisket, all cooked in a little tallow. We had a bunch of leftover breakfast tacos so I brought ’em home for Hubby, but first I emptied the innards of three of them out into a skillet and splurged on the salsa. It was delish, but I wasn’t “comfortably stuffed” yet, so I went for 3 chicken wings. I cooked a whole package yesterday so I’d have some ready when I wanted them. I’m craving something sweet, so I may eat a little butter – I think that’s the solution for a sugar craving. Still learning, I am.

And I logged all of that into my food diary, so I can check my numbers in the morning.

I’ve decided the Left in America is deliberately destroying the education system in America so future generations will be helpless and easy to control.

If kids can’t read George Orwell’s 1984, then they have no idea what is being done to them. Note these aren’t some state college in the boondocks; these are the top-rated, supposedly most exclusive universities in the nation.

Several university professors expressed concerns to The Atlantic about students who come to college unable to read full-length books.

Assistant editor Rose Horowitch spoke to several teachers from elite schools like Columbia, Georgetown and Stanford, who each described the phenomenon of students being overwhelmed by the prospect of reading entire books.

Columbia University humanities professor Nicholas Dames described feeling “bewildered” when a first-year student told him that she had never been required to read a full book at her public high school.

    and,

“It’s not that they don’t want to do the reading,” she said. “It’s that they don’t know how. Middle and high schools have stopped asking them to.”

Horowitch reported how a recent EdWeek Research Center survey of about 300 third-to-eighth-grade educators found “only 17 percent said they primarily teach whole texts” with nearly 25 percent saying whole books themselves are no longer the focus in their curriculum.

A Brazos County, Texas, jury found equine veterinarian and amateur dressage rider Ashlee Watts guilty of animal cruelty related to an incident where she repeatedly used an electric cattle prod on a horse she was treating.

It took jurors less than a hour of deliberation on Wednesday to find Watts, formerly employed by Texas A&M University, guilty, according to Kelly Brown, a spokesperson for the university.

Watts, 47, of College Station, Texas, was indicted on the felony animal cruelty charge in 2021. The 2019 incident involving the cattle prod was recorded in surveillance video, which showed Watts repeatedly shocking a horse named Allie who was recovering from surgery.

I never liked using a hotshot on livestock. Sometimes there’s no choice. I did learn more about this case from a commenter below.

“’Watts told the board she was trying to get the horse—who had been down for roughly a day since undergoing surgery—to stand, as that was crucial for her recovery. Watts performed surgery on Allie to treat an abscessed infection in her rear hoof. While the horse awoke from anesthesia and initially appeared “bright,” she was still unable to stand the day after her procedure.’

From reports, it looks like the vet sincerely believed that unless she could get the horse to stand, it was doomed. So this was an in extremis procedure, not cruelty. (Compare this to “electroshock treatment” for humans.)

Now, maybe the question here was incompetence, as she failed to diagnose the pneumonia and abscesses that were complicating the horse’s recovery. Nobody wants a doctor with tunnel vision… but we’ve all known them.

It may not be deliberately applied cruelty, but this was really stupid and a 47 year old vet should know better.

    1. Adee Avatar
      Adee

That idiot vet obviously never heard of putting the horse in a sling to take much of the weight off the feet while healing. A&M has a very good equine department, and she should have consulted senior faculty on what to seriously consider. No mention of the horse’s owner being informed. Can imagine a lawsuit is in the offing…. A&M knows how to use slings….

All this happening while many Democrat Feds are sitting on their asses wondering what to do at best (for them), or not giving a damn at worst. Lots of government employees should be fired post haste, but of course the Dems won’t do it. They can’t possibly admit they’ve screwed everything up.

We can bet millions of Americans are all for taking names of those government idiots who have screwed up and publishing their names for starters. Ahem, and the election is November 5th…. Do the Dems think that might have something to do with how folks are gonna vote?

Amazon will also deliver to this location, so you can order via Amazon and, as Anthony said, several sheriffs in the area will make sure the deliveries get through. They have threated to arrest any gubmint flunkies who try to intercept relief supplies.

The oldest known photograph of a person was captured in Paris, 1838 by Louis Daguerre, a French artist and photographer, who invented the daguerreotype process.

The image was taken in Paris at the Boulevard du Temple, a busy street. Due to the long exposure time required for early photography-around 10 minutes-the bustling street appears empty, as most people moved too quickly to be captured.

However, in the lower portion of the image, a man getting his shoes shined stood still long enough to be immortalized in history.

This man, along with the shoe shiner, became the first people ever photographed, making the daguerreotype a significant milestone in photographic history and the development of image technology.

Oh and for @ 10:09 AM I had to log-in, I didn’t have to log-in earlier this morning though. I wonder how “Hal” decides when to kick you off? I’m not complaining BTW since I seldom have to log-in. And for some unfathomable reason I was able to post, from my Lap-top @ the Fleabag Hilton in Clear lake the other day? Understandingly, I always have to log-in when I switch to my Lap-Top.

It was an Airbus, not Boeing.

Yesterday was hardly just another day of commuting by air for the passengers of Frontier Airlines flight 1326 who were traveling from Phoenix to Las Vegas. The flight had reportedly made the trip without incident until they were preparing to touch down at Harry Reid International Airport. At that point, the pilots reported smelling smoke coming from the interior of the aircraft. Horrified passengers looking out the windows reported seeing clouds of billowing smoke coming from the underside of the plane just as it was touching down on the runway. It quickly became obvious that the underside of the plane had erupted in fire.

The pilots declared an emergency and taxied toward their scheduled landing area, where the flames were extinguished and the passengers were evacuated from the plane using emergency exits. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. (NY Post)

They’re trying to blame the flight crew for a hard landing, but I’m not buying it unless Blanco Lirio says it is.

    “THE TELEPHONE”

Digging to a depth of 1,000 meters last year, French scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 1,000 years.

The French came to the conclusion that their ancestors had a telephone network centuries ago.

Not to be outdone by the French, English scientists dug to a depth of 2,000 meters. Shortly thereafter headlines in the UK newspapers read: “English archaeologists have found traces of a 2,000-year-old fiber-optic cable and have concluded that their ancestors had an advanced high-tech digital communications network a thousand years earlier than the French.”

One week later, Israeli newspapers reported the following: “After digging as deep as 5,000 meters in a Jerusalem marketplace, they found absolutely nothing. They thus concluded that 5,000 years ago Jews were using wireless.”

All of Super Dave’s work was part of the chauvinistic, Imperialist battle for domination of the Universe !

Savannah Mandel, a PhD candidate at Virginia Tech and an “outer space anthropologist,” adds to what seems to be a trendy argument about investigations into outer space.

According to Virginia Tech News, Mandel’s book “Ground Control: An Argument for the End of Human Space Exploration” argues that “rushing to send more humans to space […] mirrors an imperialist mindset that harms Earth’s humanity and environment.”

Mandel (pictured) said the space industry is “highly bureaucratic, highly politicized, and highly technical,” and the more she learned the more she began to question the utility of continued manned space operations.

but wait, we get to the real motive of this PhD candidate,

She said she wants a “systemic change” in human-led space efforts, one of which is “the inclusion of more social scientists” at NASA and elsewhere.

    SHE WANTS A JOB !

Regarding FEMA and disastrous disaster response, during the 2011 fires HEB and others almost immediately had setup a massive relief station in Grimes County and FEMA came in late trying to take it over, basically attempting to shut it down. Texans being Texans forced them to stand down eventually. Wish I could recall, or find details. It was a beautiful thing.

My ex-wife had a nice place of about 10 acres over on Joseph Road when those fires raged on. She told me a similar story of a volunteer location in the Magnolia area located on a school parking lot. They had been operating 24 hours for days when FEMA showed up and wanted to shut them down. The folks told them to politely go to hell. FEMA set their unit on the same parking lot and almost nobody used them.

I made a rare appearance at the 10:30am service for the baptism of my next-door neighbor’s teenage grandchild. I’ll restrain myself from commenting on the insipid praise music which infests that service.

Stopped by the grocery store on the way home. Got home, changed clothes, washed dishes, started the dryer, bagged up a suitcase and stored it, among other chores.

Finally sat down to watch some Texans football and realized I didn’t have my phone. Two hours later it was still missing. The slow buildup of shear panic accompanied my repeated, methodical searches which ultimately ended with me crawling around on all floors looking under all furniture and tearing the van apart for the third time.

Finally, the above-mentioned neighbor got home and I borrowed her phone to activate the Find My iPhone feature, one of the greatest inventions of all time.

I would have bet you $100 that I had brought the phone into my house earlier.
Nope. It was then that I remembered that I had placed the phone out of the sunlight in the van, before walking into church – in a place I never have used before.

Such panic probably shortened my life by a day or two.

Researchers tracked the vaccine’s effectiveness in five South American countries – Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay – during their flu season from March to July.
They found flu shots reduced the risk of hospitalizations by about 34%, according to the study published Thursday in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

AFT got caught red-handed lying to SCOTUS. Bottom line, ATF said in 2018 an incompletely machined receiver is not a firearm and in 2022 they said it was. Same receiver produced in different years with no material difference and got different results. What a waste of money prosecuting a stupid case and what a financial drain on the producer. ATF should have to cough up big buckets for the malfeasance. We shall see.

Joe Biden makes it explicitly clear that he and Kamala were on the same page and in agreement the entire they have been in office. So much for her trying to be the reform candidate. Further, Biden went into the press room and made the brief speech just moments before Kamala was set to speak at some fundraiser, taking all the air left.

Biden’s gonna keep waving that middle finger until election day. Unless they 25A him, he’s got the ability to trip up her campaign.

And he’s a resentful POS, so he’ll continue to interfere as much as he is able until he can’t any more. Sitting on the beach is passive way of hurting her campaign as well as a pre-emptive media event.

Hello all, been lurking. Regarding the ’58 Chrysler Windsor. You might be impressed to know that I have one, all original, with the service records and original owners manual in a tent in my yard. It still has the original plastic seat protectors on the seats.

Been busy with the harvest and other matters, and really haven’t had anything worthwhile to say.

I have reclaimed half of my porch now, and can enjoy the swing bench once again. When the weather turns colder, I’ll be taking full advantage of it.
