Tuesday Rape of the Wild High Country – Open Thread

When I first headed to California in November 1971, my companions and I stopped at the Joshua Tree National Park. It was quite an experience and there is no other place like it.  Joshua Tree is a hauntingly beautiful American desert, part of the Mojave, and I was mesmerized by its mystical aura.  I’ve always wanted to revisit and never made it.

Gram Parsons died on September 19, 1973, at the age of 26, from an overdose of morphine and alcohol at the Joshua Tree Inn near Joshua Tree National Park. Following his death, his body was stolen by his road manager and a roadie, taken to Cap Rock in the California desert, and set on fire as per Parsons’ wishes to have his ashes scattered in the park.

What else is there to say, except…

However, in 2020, Avantus (the developer behind the project) received an exemption from Newsom’s Fish and Game Commission to clear the trees. Arguably, the 2023 measure is a cover for the realities that are now being played out in the state.

As I noted in an earlier post, climate cultists insisted that they needed to chop down the Joshua Trees to save them from the carbon dioxide plants actually need for life. In the senseless quest for renewable energy utopia, a solar energy firm was given permits to proceed with the Aratina Solar Center, over the deep concerns and objections of area residents.

It appears a massive green energy project cannot begin without a substantial outcry from the nearby residents, whose communities are being deeply impacted with few real gains in sustainable or reliable energy.
This week, work began on felling 3,500 of the 4,700 Joshua Trees that are on the site of the solar farm.

A 2020 survey counted 4,700 trees on the project site. Since then, however, the size of the project has been reduced.

Hundreds of Joshua trees appeared to have been destroyed in the last week, but on some portions of the site the trees still stand, residents said. Neither the company nor government agencies would say how many trees have been cut down. Avantus, the developer, said fewer trees will be destroyed than the government approved.

I cannot describe how sickened I am by this.  Like one man said: “It will take generations to restore the damage of the Climate Change Cult freaks.”

I have no words,….First they murder the whales, one of the most revered animals on the environmentalist’s list and now the Joshua Tree? I don’t know about today but it used to be that the Joshua Tree was like the Saguaro Cactus in that there was a heavy fine to damage or move one.

    This is also true;

About my @ 5:19 AM, what is so frustrating about solar panels and windmills is that they’re so inefficient that they never pay for themselves and without government subsidies there wouldn’t be any, anywhere. Well, except for a few rich social justice warriors. To think that they’re destroying Joshua Trees that took hundreds of years to mature with useless solar panels is just criminal.
FWIW; When I was in California, with NASA in 1987 I visited the Joshua Tree National Park, it was on my Bucket List.

This is a mystery to me.

One million dollars is not peanuts, but for some reason, no rainbow ideology group has taken up a legitimate offer of $1 million to hold a gay pride rally in Gaza or the West Bank.

It’s a mystery because so many of these groups have expressed solidarity with Hamas and the Palestinian authority. You would think they would be chomping at the bit to show their undying (pun intended) support for their brothers and sisters in arms.

    and,

I also suggest that everybody attending bring along a lending library worth of books that Florida is removing from schools. Palestinian children, in between lessons on how to murder Jews, need lessons in various forms of Queer sex and how to change their gender on a whim.

Imagine the paraders in the attached image strolling through the West Bank.

Driving around northeastern New Jersey, I have not seen one, single Harris/Walz bumpersticker or yard sign. I have seen several Trump signs in my small town.

In 2020, there were plenty of Biden/Harris signs and stickers. There are yard signs now for local elections, but it is eerily quiet for a presidential election year.

In this densely populated blue Bergen County, Biden received 285,967 in 2020 against 204,417 for Trump. People may be surprised by the final tallies in November.

The reaction in the media should be: Hillary calls for government censorship of American’s political speech. This is much closer to the actual truth than some BS about ‘misinformation.’

Every once in a while, I have this temptation to join Twitter (X). This is an example. Jonathan Chait has been churning out Leftist swill since the early days of the internet. Prior to that, he defended one Marxist myth after another at The New Republic and other places.

The following is hilarious. Mocking the Left with their own tactics and words is highly effective political warfare. It was a trolling tsunami.

    Big mistake, Jon. YUGE.

We’re not going to waste your time with any citations from that article because you already know what it says. It’s everything you think and all of it horrible. He even made the case that political assassins were no worse than Trump.

Unfortunately for Chait, his article ran afoul of Twitchy favorite and outstanding troll Jesse Kelly. It started simply enough, with Kelly just throwing Chait’s words back in his face.

Think there might be a connection here…

Here is the link to a column at AEI.

Something is happening to young people. A growing number of research studies suggest that young adults today face unprecedented degrees of mental distress. Most recently, the CDC reported that teenage girls are experiencing record levels of sadness. Left-leaning young women appear to be faring worst of all. What’s going on?

Gallup via Ace of Spades HQ:

Young women are more liberal than they have been in decades, according to a Gallup analysis of more than 20 years of polling data.

Over the past few years, about 4 in 10 young women between the ages of 18 and 29 have described their political views as liberal, compared with two decades ago when about 3 in 10 identified that way.

    and,

For many young women, their liberal identity is not just a new label. The share of young women who hold liberal views on the environment, abortion, race relations and gun laws has also jumped by double digits, Gallup found.

Young women “aren’t just identifying as liberal because they like the term or they’re more comfortable with the term, or someone they respect uses the term,” said Lydia Saad, the director of U.S. social research at Gallup. “They have actually become much more liberal in their actual viewpoints.”

Darn the bad luck, it’s what happens when you buy cheap comms gear.

BEIRUT, Sept 17 (Reuters) – More than 1,000 people, including Hezbollah fighters and medics, were wounded on Tuesday when the pagers they use to communicate exploded across Lebanon, security sources told Reuters.

A Hezbollah official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the detonation of the pagers was the “biggest security breach” the group had been subjected to in nearly a year of war with Israel.

Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah have been engaged in cross-border warfare since the Gaza war erupted last October, the worst such escalation in years.

    Mark Steyn…

My own line on failed assassinations is that of the IRA taunting Mrs Thatcher after the Brighton bombing: You have to be lucky every time; we only have to be lucky once.

In the last two months, Trump has been lucky twice. There are another two months to go: can he be lucky thrice? Four times?

If I were Trump I wouldn’t want these guys anywhere near me – the official government protection, that is. The law-&-order types on the right have been ballyhooing the quick thinking of one individual agent on the ground – which is fine and dandy, but conveniently absolves the “bureaucracy” of its failure to provide sufficient protection, even after he’s already been shot and an American citizen has died. Trump is one of the comparatively few presidents who has taken a bullet for his country, which is more than even Tim Walz can claim, but nobody who matters is interested. The court eunuchs at ABC News couldn’t be bothered with a question on this summer’s near-assassination, but they did make room for a question about the rental practices of Donald Trump’s father over half-a-century ago.

    Some good news.

A pro-cop coffee shop owner bullied off campus at Boise State University could be getting a large payout soon.

A jury awarded Big City Coffee $3 million following a lawsuit from owner Sarah Fendley against the public university.

The coffee shop left campus in 2020 following pushback from students who objected to Fendley’s (pictured) shop supporting Thin Blue Line USA, a pro-police organization.

I was walking barefoot in my backyard, praying my rosary and getting vitamin D and grounding done, when something stung the heck out of my foot. At first I thought it was a bite because… ants, but this was waaaaaaay more painful. I’m soaking the foot in cool epsom salt water and have an order in for Hubby to bring me some Benadryl. It looks like one big puncture wound, so I’m guessing I stepped on a wasp.

The worst of the pain has subsided, but I’m guessing the swelling is just getting started.

Some graphic videos of exploding Hezbollahs.

Hundreds of Hezbollah terrorists were reported injured on Tuesday by exploding communication devices across Lebanon. Video clips and pictures on social media show Hezbollah terrorists suffering serious wounds by detonating beepers that the Shia-jihadist group was using to run its communications operation.

“Hundreds of members of the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah have reportedly been injured after handheld pagers they use to communicate exploded,” the BBC reported. Some terrorists appear to have died on the scene, graphic social media posts indicate.

    Today’s C&C roundup:

Good morning, C&C, it’s Tuesday! As another remarkable 2024 week chugs along, your daily essential news roundup includes: Day Two of the Second Trump Assassination information we know for sure; Governor DeSantis provides a wee bit more information on Florida’s independent investigation; Biden-appointed US Attorney heading Trump assassination inquiry has curious background; Ryan Routh appears in federal court and says stuff that raised big red flags; arresting Sheriff deploys legitimate conspiracy theories at press conference; Routh’s bizarre connections to democrat bigwigs; NIH’s Francis Collins scurries out of retirement to offer halfhearted apology and blame us for the pandemic; declining U.S. birth rates keep baffling experts like Francis Collins; Sweden trials bribing migrants to go back home; and North Carolina joins states defenestrating DEI.

  16. Tedtam Avatar
    Tedtam

Well, this is bound to wad up some panties: DeSantis taking on the investigation into the latest Trump assassination attempt:

Interviewed by Jesse Watters, the Nation’s best governor made the irrefutable point that the FBI and the DOJ have a built-in conflict of interest investigating the Trump assassination attempts, since those very same agencies are also currently trying to put Trump behind bars in several pending criminal cases.

So, it would obviously be better for Florida to lead the investigation.

I bet it wisses off the Swamp Folk when common sense is used against them.

I don’t think DeSantis will allow a grassy knoll conspiracy scenario.

And next, Mr. C. has questions about the perp:

Right away, we see some problems. For Portlanders, Routh claimed an annual income of $36,000 — far below the poverty level. Which means there is a lot of mysterious money floating around world-traveling Mr. Routh.

Here are only a few of the many possible questions: how did Routh afford international travel to and from Ukraine? Or to buy guns, body armor, and GoPro cameras? Who owns the Nissan truck he tried to escape in? Did he rent it? If so, with what money and what credit? How did Routh get to Florida? Where was he staying? How was he paying for stuff? Cash? Credit?

Routh has an extensive low-level criminal record going back decades, including felony weapons violations. How did he buy the gun he brought to Trump’s golf course? According to the FBI’s criminal affidavit, it was a military SKS-style assault rifle made in former Soviet bloc countries, so it wasn’t from around here. The rifle’s serial number was “obliterated” and unreadable to the naked eye.

[Note: Carl Higbie, Newsmax host and former SEAL, said these guns are actually readily available for $700 or less.]

Why obliterate the serial number? Who is Routh trying to protect? Who gave him that gun?

I’m sure there will be a zillion questions and about two answers, at least one of which will be a lie.

Is the shooter wannabe (don’t want to put his name in print here, so I’ll just call him Uncle Oakley for now) really the crazy loon that the press is trying to portray him to be?

In fact, it’s just the opposite. Routh appears to have seamlessly navigated complex and difficult life situations —like traveling to and from a war zone, and self-publishing his dumb book on Amazon— that would flummox most of us. He was also vetted by any number of media platforms that found him credible enough to feature in their pro-Ukraine propaganda stories.

There’s a photo of Uncle O being pictured with a well-known humanitarian chef, who has lately been delivering meals in Gza.

And he (the chef) is also well-known for hanging out with Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Ukraine’s former comedian Zelensky.

… But we do know at least one thing: human hedgehog and media darling Routh enjoys just one thin degree of separation from Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Volodymyr Zelensky. Weird.

Crazy like a fox, maybe. A willing puppet for the swamp?

There’s a discussion of our impending societal collapse due to not enough babies:

Experts like Francis Collins expected the pandemic to produce a baby boom. Their hopelessly naive thinking was that, since Americans were forced to spend more time together during pandemic lockdowns, the spark of romance would kindle a massive wave of new births, reversing an ominous post-2000 trend.

Instead, the opposite occurred. The experts were wrong, again. Birth rates declined during lockdowns, accelerating an existing Millennial trend and, for the first time, falling below replacement rates.

Did anyone bother to count all of the miscarriages during the pandemic? Maternity nurses reported infant deaths and miscarriages as “skyrocketing” during the season of jab.

What do the experts say now? Nothing. They have become hopelessly baffled, worthless human detritus of a failed political science experiment. Civilization is literally collapsing while our ineffectual expert class plays dance tunes on deck. There is really nothing bad that cannot be said about our current orthodox science establishment.

The silver lining though is how well the empire’s invisible clothing has been exposed to public scrutiny. They want to cry about lost trust? As Collins’ tone-deaf, non-apology proved, loss of trust is just the beginning.

I don’t know what factor is the worst regarding our declining birth rate:

    • Feminism? (Don’t need a man, get a job instead)
    • Selfishness? (Children cost money, and I’d rather spend it on me)
    • General immaturity of our society? (Get kids off the screens and help them develop maturity)
    • Abortion? (Let Satan Democrats take your baby, you don’t need the inconvenience)
    • Bad economics (I can’t afford gas to get to work, much less a kid)

If you haven’t seen the movie “Nefarious,” I’d highly recommend you do so. But not late at night. An exorcist who watched the movie said it’s a lot more accurate in depicting what actually happens – the demon trying to mentally out-manipulate its opposition. But what transpires in that mental face-off explains a lot of things happening in our society.

PS: The above exorcist was interviewed, and he describe things that happened to hinder the movie’s production. The night of the review, he was one of many interviews that were to be used in promoting the movie. He heard voices coming from the curtains right behind him. Equipment and lighting kept failing. He was called back for a repeat interview, and he exorcised the room when he returned, and after that all of the equipment worked just fine. Just sayin’.

I’ve often thought that this would cheaper than putting these illegals on welfare forever – but there would have to be ways to prevent them from coming back: fingerprints, photos, etc., and laws to automatically deport them if they are found living here again:

Sweden is offering $35K PER PERSON – not per family – to get the heck outta dodge. Take your money, go home, buy a house, and stay there. Quit raping and robbing our people.

… . Supporters pointed out it’s a good deal all around, since Sweden is already spending much more than that on inefficient welfare for the migrants.

You would think a policy like this would be a liberal’s wildest dream. It transfers more wealth from the first world to the third world. It sets up migrants to succeed in their own countries and helps them escape poverty.

    It’s a giant handout.

But no; Swedish leftists hate the idea. Because it’s mean.

Practical problems quickly suggest themselves. For a plan like this to work, a country must first close its borders, or else migrants will be encouraged to come, turn around, and claim their severance packages, a sort of money-grabbing lazy-Susan. But if handled right, if the borders were closed, it might work.

What do you think? Setting aside issues of fairness or affordability, is this a practical, ethical solution? Could it work here, in the U.S.?

In a disclosure to the House Judiciary Committee, the whistleblower said Jeffrey Veltri was promoted earlier this year to become the special agent in charge of the Miami office.

The whistleblower called Mr. Veltri “adamantly and vocally anti-Trump” and said FBI Director Christopher A. Wray, Deputy Director Paul Abbate and Executive Assistant Director Jennifer Moore were involved in directing Mr. Veltri to cleanse his social media.
