Weekend Weather Open Comments

Houston is a beautiful city and very photogenic.  I stole these from ABC13’s weather head.  I wish I could say I took them but alas I did not.  Oh wait I did “take” them.

    Shannon, are we there yet?
Well we finally got a little rain and yes it was a “little” .78″ since noon yesterday. Mostly a slow drizzle but we’ll take it and maybe it’ll save the grass.

I was watching Jesse Watters show on Thursday and he was showing all the talking heads commenting on the newest Russia Hoax and one of the commenters was the old has-been, John Bolton. He had the audacity to say that Putin thinks Trump is an easy mark. I had to laugh at the utter stupidity of that remark but the butter slid off of John Bolton’s noddles a long time ago. He may even believe his own BS.

    This is a little strange.

Clint McRae has been sheriff of Walker County for 20 years and claims to be completely unaware of the nationally notorious Harris brothers’ Colony Ridge land development ? Really ?!!!

After two arrests for driving with a blood-alcohol content nearly four times the legal limit, prominent land developer William “Trey” Harris III received a 45-day jail sentence earlier this year in Walker County, just north of Conroe.

But Harris, one half of the team behind Greater Houston’s sprawling, controversial Colony Ridge development, would only serve half of that sentence — the beneficiary of uncommon treatment given by longtime Walker County Sheriff Clint McRae.

    and,

The finding is based on an analysis of county jail records that show Harris is the only one of nearly three dozen people released early while serving time for a drunken-driving conviction from January 2023 to July.

here is the weird part of this story….

McRae added his decision came after two judges — both of whom he declined to name — contacted him to encourage an early reprieve. The sheriff said Harris’ criminal defense lawyer, family, and friends did not ask for leniency.

    Now this is a good idea;

Made zucchini and banana bread in a jar today. For those who haven’t seen this, just make your favorite cake or sweet bread, pour half way in jars. Bake as normal and immediately put clean washed lids on when removing from oven. If it rises above edge, trim before sealing. They seal and have a very long shelf life.

I dated a woman in Kyle, Texas about 30 years ago. There were a couple of thousand people living there. It was a ranching & farming community. The big business was the large fuel stop/convenience store out on I-35. Now there are over 60,000 people living there. Sheesh !

Despite its heat-related woes, Kyle’s population has jumped from 5,314 in 2000 to 62,500 in 2023 – making it the second-fastest growing city in the whole country.

A new pipeline is currently being built to bring water to the community, at the cost of $250 million. Delays, however, have hindered the project. Heat-related deaths, meanwhile, remain higher than ever, reaching a record 341 in Texas last year.

Squawk commented on this earlier. Glenn Reynolds, Tennessee law prof said before adding the link to Professor Robert Leider’s article on the Georgia school shooting.

Mostly I think this is just a search for scapegoats. And even when — as with the Trump assassin — parents call the police, how much is done? And if the parents are responsible for the Georgia kid, what of the FBI, which had him “on its radar” (as usual) long before?

Prof. Leader from the Antonin Scalia School of Law:

The law traditionally has not imposed a general duty upon parents to protect third parties against the criminal acts of their children. And for good reasons. Parents are not in a position to control their children’s behavior at all times. Although parents may choose to have children, they do not choose the children that they get. Unlike the employer-employee relationship, parents cannot terminate a child who exhibits problematic behavior.

But there are some exceptions where parents may violate duties of their own. A parent can become liable when he fails to exercise control over the child and the child’s wrongful act is reasonably foreseeable. Even here, however, courts (usually in the tort context—criminal cases are rare) have imposed a strict standard for what qualifies as reasonably foreseeable. To quote the Alaska Supreme Court:

A plaintiff must show more than a parent’s general notice of a child’s dangerous propensity. A plaintiff must also show that the parent had reason to know with some specificity of a present opportunity and need to restrain the child to prevent some imminently foreseeable harm.

The passage of years can take a toll in small ways that can clump together at some point to become an issue later in life, much to one’s amazement.

I have found it helpful to start out recovery from something that seemed to be quite exceeding my ability by taking on some smaller aspects of it rather than trying to take on everything at once.

Perhaps consulting a physical therapist could be helpful for things you can do at home after several sessions to learn what does help you. That is, what works for you and what doesn’t. Physical therapists do make house calls.

What a lovely weather change cometh by tonight. Currently we have a reasonably comfortable 85 with 64% humidity getting us there, and the “cold” front has already passed us. Finally checking in – had mass and a Catholic Daughters meeting, then Hubby took me out for steak. We came home and both fell asleep. I didn’t get nearly enough zzz’s last night.

I’m glad Shannon is in a beautiful place. He didn’t say whether he was alone or no, but either way, I hope he’s having a pleasant trip.

And yes, the water on the west coast is cold, just like the water on the west coast of Europe is cold. Same reason – the global ocean currents travel the same way, due to the rotation of the Earth and the Coriolis Effect. Water travels from east to west along the equator, gathering warmth. Then it moves northward and southward when it reaches a land mass, taking that warmth with it. That’s why the Gulf and the lower east coast waters are warm, because the Gulf Stream has all of that equatorial heat. The current loses its warmth as it moves northward in the northern waters. The Gulf Stream eventually becomes the Labrador Current and travels down past England, France, and Italy, where the cycle repeats itself.

Same thing on the Pacific, but California is on the downward side, bringing the cold water from the Arctic regions down. I think it’s fascinating, all of the systems our home has for regulating temperature and stuff.

I had a really good geography teacher in college.

This may be the best damn post on X (Twitter) I’ve ever seen:

    BREAKING SPORTS NEWS

In the National Politics League, the New York Trumps and the California Harrises have just finalized a major, unprecedented, multi-player trade.

    Details are below.

    The California Harrises receive:

    -Dick “Big Dick” Cheney.

    -Liz “Little Dick” Cheney.

    -Adam “Crotch Rot” Kinzinger

    -Bill “Snuffy” Kristol

-The Bald Grifter Groomer Goons at The Lincoln Project

    -Goldman Sachs

-All the other bankers who engineered the 2008 crash

-George W. Bush’s collection of really bad portraits of soldiers he killed or maimed.

-Five hundred antisemitic racists to be named later.

In exchange for the above, the New York Trumps receive:

    -RFK Jr.

    -Tulsi Gabbard

    -Elon Musk

    -Alan Dershowitz

    -Tim Walz’s entire extended family

    -10 million African-American male voters

    -America’s working class

-Joe Biden’s mummified remains to show off in the trophy case at Trump Stadium

    -The Oval Office

Stunned by the value the Trumps received, commentators on ESPN have stated that this is the most one-sided trade since the New York Yankees acquired Babe Ruth for cash used by the Boston Red Sox’s owner to finance the Broadway play “No No Nanette.”

Rumor is it that the California Harrises are working on an off-Broadway play called “No No Kamala.”

More news to follow as we receive updates….

I know there has been major blowback against Tucker Carson and Darryl Cooper in Carlson’s self-immolation of his reputation. However, the lies are so big, so outrageous there can never be enough criticism.

Cooper’s first argument was that Churchill “was primarily responsible for that war becoming what it did, something other than an invasion of Poland.” Yet in the moment that Adolf Hitler invaded Belgium, Holland, and Luxembourg at dawn on May 10, 1940, Winston Churchill was not even prime minister. Unless Mr. Cooper is arguing that from his position as First Lord of the Admiralty—the head of Britain’s navy—Churchill was somehow able to force Hitler to unleash Blitzkrieg in the West, his first argument falls to the ground.

    and,

When Carlson commended Cooper’s “belief in accuracy and honesty,” it provided the only comic moment in the whole interview, unless one also counts Carlson’s estimation that Cooper—of whom I confess I had not hitherto heard—is “the most important historian in the United States.”

Researchers uncover the lies in Northern Ireland…

In the entire 4-year period of covid up to March 2024 there were a total of just 275 deaths due to covid alone and that figure includes deaths which mentioned covid with pneumonia.

In the 15-44 age group there were just 8 deaths. Moreover, the youngest person in this age group was 38, so no one younger than 38 died from covid in Northern Ireland in the entire 4 year period.

Flu suddenly disappeared during the main covid mortality period March 2020 – Oct 2022 and then just as suddenly reappeared after that.

In addition to continued excess death numbers, the data suggest a large increase in deaths from chronic diseases, which may be due to lockdown measures and the decision in March 2020 to shut down all medical diagnosis and treatments for all diseases including cancer. There is also evidence of significantly increased waiting times for treatment of diseases like cancer.

    and these shocking statistics,

On 28 March 2024 the Department of Finance (DoF) responded to Kathy’s request for information about total number of covid ‘related’ and covid caused deaths:

I can confirm that the Department holds the information requested.

Of the 5,674 Covid-19 related deaths that had occurred up to 15 March 2024 (accounting for registrations up to and including 20 March 2024), 275 had Covid-19 as the only cause of death mentioned on the death certificate. The remaining 5,399 covid-19 related deaths had at least one other cause of death mentioned on the death certificate.
