A couple weeks ago there was some surprising news out of New York. Planned Parenthood announced it would stop doing late-term abortions (those after 20 weeks) and also planned to close four clinics in the state. The problem in New York wasn’t the legality of their business, it was the profitability. PP’s president wrote in an opinion piece that because of inflation they were in trouble unless the state started directing more public money their way.
and,
Today, the NY Times published a follow-up in the business section which makes the case that the business of abortion is not going well almost anywhere you look around the country. The story recounts the experience of a clinic in Washington DC which tried to expand in the Los Angeles area. It didn’t go well.
plus,
There’s some real irony here. Pro-life groups have spent decades campaigning against abortion and especially against late-term abortion. But it seems many clinics (like the ones in New York mentioned above) are now feeling pressure to stop performing these late abortions, not because of a change in the law but because of Bidenflation. I guess that’s what they call a silver lining.
The final factor the article considers is that opposition to abortion has gone up, not down since the Dobbs decision. That’s true even in very blue states.
I remember. You called me up in the summer of 1988 and said this guy, Clinton, was going to be the next president of the United States and you were right. I said: “Who the hell is Bill Clinton ?”
I’ll never forget.
A millions years ago Bill Clinton gave a speech at the DNC on the final night ( He was not the nominee).
He wouldn’t shut up. Droned on for hours it seemed. Spoke for hours without saying a damn thing.
Barack is truly Bill Clinton…with more melanin.
DNC. I can’t even imagine going there.
It must be worse than I can imagine.
You gotta give him credit.
Barry Soetero is the singularly most vacuous speech giver in the history of this country.
Needless to say, Barry Soetero is the creepiest sonofabitch I ever saw.
Oh my.
Obama’s THING is now speaking.
Oh my.
i just turned on the TV.
This guy is speaking before the DNC.
I think it’s Kamala’s husband.
Whipped.
Badly.
I just watched a coupla videos on my Byrna non-firearm. The second video compared it to another similar weapon. The other one was designed to look like a revolver, and loading it was, IMHO, more of a pain than the Byrna. The projectiles, however, actually penetrated the test dummy. Not deeply, but the recipient of the shot would be bleeding and probably run away. The Byrna has a kinetic shot which penetrated slightly, if at all, though a point blank to the head (like if I shot someone who was carjacking me) would cause some potentially serious damage. The Byrna… Read more »
What a fine day here, high about 92 but with 58% humidity it was real nice. After spending 7 1/2 hours on the zero turn mower I hit the shower and my wife and I sat on the front porch for a spell and had a couple of beers. Then we went to Our Place for burgers, I had the Big Bopper and my wife had the bacon double cheese burger. Good eating and since the burgers are huge we had leftovers for Dawg. 😉
Andy Beshear was supposed to be this nice guy who was a semi-popular Democratic governor of Kentucky. He was on the short list for Kamala’s VP choice.
Well, we made it to 103 briefly an hour ago despite all the trees we have and lots of shade. Need to thank the squirrels for all the trees they planted for us over the years.:)
I’m going to make some of these to see if I like them. I saw another recipe that was similar, with the title “Keto Crack”.

I’m fasting today, and I got my hair cut. I only exercised for 20 minutes walking, didn’t want to get too low sugar. Afterwards, I weighed myself for fun. Down 3 pounds. I’ll betcha $10 that two of those three pounds was hair. The stylist made sure that I wanted to cut it all off, then grabbed it at the back, took her scissors, and just hacked it off. She held it up for me to see in the mirror. Looked like she was holding a coupla squirrels in her hand. As she kept cutting, a colleague kept sweeping. This… Read more »
Oh, how exciting.
Just got the bill for my homeowners insurance.
It only increased by 130% in one year.
Heh.
Last year on this day the high was 108°F.
Heh
We have made it to 101 today. First time this year. That can stop anytime now.
This guy gets it regarding the sleazeball, Biden.
Trump has no problem entering the lion’s den, but the Cackler? Not so much. Former President Trump said Monday night that Vice President Kamala Harris’ team told his campaign that she would not participate in a Fox News presidential debate on September 4. The proposed debate would have been held in Pennsylvania and moderated by Fox News anchors Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum. “I am not surprised by this development because I feel that she knows it is very difficult, at best, for her to defend her record setting Flip-Flopping on absolutely everything she once believed in, including her statements that… Read more »
Matt Gaetz’ mic drop.
And the testosterone image invoking company, Harley-Davidson, has had to backtrack on its DIE programs. I never would’ve put HD and LGBTQ+ in the same sentence, but there you are. I have mental images of Hell’s Angels putting the confused tribe members on their motorcycles and running them off a cliff somewhere. One person created change. Influencer and conservative filmmaker Robby Starbuck went to war with Harley Davidson at the beginning of July. “It’s time to expose Harley Davidson,” Starbuck’s July 23rd post said. He listed twenty examples of how the company has “gone totally woke.” Such as Harley-Davidson’s ‘bootcamp’ for… Read more »
And in another case schadenfreude, Disney is terminating season 2 of the awful-sounding “Acolyte,” which has been touted as the gayest Star Wars spinoff of all time. It included a weird coven of space lesbian witches conceiving children without men.
Every feminist’s wet dream.
Mr. C. just cracks me up.
From C&C: This could be the wildest weird weather story yet. Yesterday, AP ran a mysterious, submersive story headlined, “Search continues for British tech magnate and 5 others after luxury superyacht sinks off Sicily.”The Bayesian was a $30 million, 184-foot superyacht owned by Mike Lynch, often described as “the British Bill Gates.”…. The Bayesian spared no expense, offering guests comfort and performance, opulent staterooms, sophisticated social spaces, and cutting-edge technology, all powered by robust engines for long-distance cruising.Yesterday, according to survivors and passengers on a nearby yacht, just after 4am local time, with the Bayesian quietly moored off Palermo, Sicily,… Read more »
Re the DNC clown show: The real race starts in three days, as soon as the Convention ends. Politico pointed out that Kamala still must bridge the Israel-Palestine divide (protestors outside the Democratic border wall called her “Killer Kamala”). She must face reporters, currently relegated to a tent outside the Convention hall, who are still waiting to ask her some questions. And her recently unveiled economic plan landed flatter than a French crepe. I wonder if/when/how she’ll respond to any reporters in real time, without focus grouping responses to questions and having a staff formulate the wording for such a… Read more »
Today’s C&C roundup:
Good morning, C&C, it’s Tuesday! Your roundup of today’s essential news includes: Democrat National Convention update with nothing much to report except media malfeasance; 2024 party platform includes a major oversight — the nominee herself; freak weather sinks superyacht in the weirdest weather story yet; conservative counterculture win as gayest Star Wars show blasted into one-season history; and famous American motorcycle company is forced to grapple with customer preferences.
Oh, and the OC topic breaks my heart. /NOT
I used to carry 2-3 rosaries in my purse for handing out, but one day I gave away 5 so I started to carry 5 or 6. My purse stash all got taken last night. I felt the need to make two rosaries this morning to try to keep my house stash from getting too depleted. So, two five decade rosaries and a single one decade rosary. The single decade rosaries are good for kids or for pockets. They allow me to use up beads when I don’t have enough for a full rosary, too.
Finally settling down briefly before hitting the treadmill. I ate an avocado with my meat last night at dinner, and my blood sugar spiked almost 40 points from yesterday’s numbers. Crap. I guess until I drop some pounds I’m going to have to be strict carnivore. I think when I lose some weight I’ll be able to have an occasional avocado or vegetable. It’s amazing how desperate my body is to be diabetic. The genetics are strong, strong, strong for this on Mom’s side of the family. I wonder if all that sugar I ate for so many years made… Read more »
“Let me tell you about the very rich. They are different from you and me. They possess and enjoy early, and it does something to them, makes them soft where we are hard, and cynical where we are trustful, in a way that, unless you were born rich, it is very difficult to understand. They think, deep in their hearts, that they are better than we are because we had to discover the compensations and refuges of life for ourselves. Even when they enter deep into our world or sink below us, they still think that they are better than… Read more »
It was supposed to be a secret – maybe – or the Harris/Walz campaign leaked it on purpose. But Harris and her team have still made communication with Arab American leaders a priority.During a campaign trip to Michigan earlier this month, Harris met with Abdullah Hammoud, the 34-year-old mayor of Dearborn, a Detroit suburb that has the largest number of Arab Americans of any city in the United States. The meeting was disclosed by a person who was not authorized to discuss it publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity. The person familiar with the meeting did not provide specific details but said… Read more »
Once a Western nation’s major institutions do things like this… The Church of England has apparently joined the pronoun movement. Of course, none of this should come as a surprise to anyone, but it is still a shame. According to a report in the Telegraph, the Church has decided to stop using the word “church” in order to be more modern. I don’t know what word they will use. Lodge? Club? Association? The Loyal Order of Water Buffalos? By all indications, the church is keeping its official moniker as “The Church of England.” That is understandable; a lot of letterhead would need to… Read more »
Jeffrey Carter with Not “Elite” But the “Connected Class” No, people will do anything to attend an Ivy because of the network. All of a sudden, you have the moniker and stamp of approval. However, it doesn’t mean you will be anointed and receive all the blessings of the network. There are other hoops to jump through to do that. In addition, if you run afoul of the norms and standards of the network, your reputation is trashed. and, Trump joined The Connected Class. He rejected it. He saw it for what it was. This is from Reuters, the left wing news agency, interviewing the leader of the biggest PAC supporting Kamala Harris. Almost every MSM poll is a push poll or at least highly contaminated with leftist confirmation bias. CHICAGO (Reuters) -The founder of the main outside spending group backing Kamala Harris’ presidential bid says their own opinion polling is less “rosy” than public polls suggest and warned that Democrats face much closer races in key states.Chauncey McLean, president of Future Forward, a super political action committee, or super PAC, that has raised hundreds of millions of dollars to back Harris in the… Read more »
Heat Index of 112+ predicted for today.
Mornin! I had no idea the Cybertruck could actually tow.
It was 86F on 610 at 0615 this morning.
Biden’s missed opportunity. 😀
Oh and there is some pretty naughty words in there so you’ve been warned.
A cool 68 degrees here on the farm with a high in the low 90’s BUT wait! There’s more; the dew point is also at 68% so we’re enjoying some fallish weather for a short while. Not to worry, by the end of the week the oppressive humidity will be back just to keep it al real. Today I’m catching up on all the mowing so the weather will be a pleasant change.
Mornin’ Gang
Good Morning.
Tucker and friends explore the new Cybertruck.
