As I was stumbling through the ‘net, I found this page: National Museum of Funeral History.
It may be a little uncomfortable for some of the Couch denizens, but it’s interesting that Houston has small museums and attractions like this. The Orange Show isn’t far from where I live. I probably should make the time to see it. I’ve been to the Health Museum and found it interesting. The 1940 Air Terminal Museum is at Hobby Airport, and I’ve been in that one. A friend of mine had her daughter’s wedding reception there, and we were able to see all of the exhibits, which were very interesting. There is also the Holocaust Museum, which I’ve also visited. I was impressed by the docents there who could explain everything. For art and/or car enthusiasts, there is the Art Car Musem.
There is also a museum in the base of the San Jacinto Monument. We won’t be having our annual Bay Area VW Club Monumental Car Show there this year. We’ve moved to a El Jardin Park ever since new folks took over the Monument site and made things immensely more difficult to hold our shows there. But everyone seems to like the park and the adjacent beach.
And there’s a boat tour of the Houston Ship Channel. Something I’ve thought about doing through the years but keep forgetting or putting off. And the Boliver Ferry – always a fun ride!
I think I take a lot for granted. It’s so much easier to gritch and groan about politics instead of getting off my butt to see and do the interesting and wonderful things I have handy. I take it all for granted.
Very slow rain from late afternoon until 11 tonight. Expect it will stop overnight. Everything here is quiet.
The party the neighbors behind us had last night was dismissed around midnight, and the party was mostly quiet: light music and only occasional voices heard. Best guess that the occasion was a wedding reception.
..
I’m watching “Silver Streak” now. Movies! Channel has some good stuff on today.
One of the big eye openers on my trip to Sicily was the lack of toilet seats. Seriously – just the toilet bowl ceramic. I found one toilet seat where we stopped at a bar in Corleone. It was the absolute flimsiest piece of plastic I’ve ever seen. Imagine cardstock paper, and you’ve got that toilet seat. Italy had real… Read more »
Thunder again comes this way and rain was not far behind. Fortunately, we have missed heavy rain today, seemingly getting only odd amounts every so often. We’re now up to 1.50″ in the gauge, and the wind has revived along with some thundering.

Hopscotsch is one of my favorite all-time movies.
I miss Matthau. And Lemmon, of course.
The funniest two men in my lifetime.
Someone didn’t think this through.
But it’s “green,” so there’s that.
Unfortunately, the American Standard toilet comes with a plastic seat.
I hate plastic toilet seats. I always buy the wooden ones.
I’ll live with it for a couple years.
I’m watching movie “Hopscotch” with Walter Matthau playing a CIA agent ready to exit his job due to a jacka$$ boss (JAB) being installed as his superior. He’s decided to write a tell-all book and sends out a chapter at a time to folks all over the world, which means JAB and the agency, along with the Russians and other… Read more »
Soft seat toilet seats or good old fashioned hard seat?
I am quite excited. I have hated my toilets ever since we bought this house 16/17 years ago. The house is now 28 years old. The gloss was gone on the inside of the bowl so you really couldn’t get it perfectly clean. The calcium buildup in the little holes has made it much less efficient – there just isn’t… Read more »
Trying to set up new puter. PIA
Now the sky to the NW is much lighter, and it seems the sun is trying to poke through the clouds over us. Birds and squirrels that had been in the back yard before it came are nowhere to be seen. Such critters are good at sensing Mother Nature’s voice of warning long before we can.
Only moderate rain here yesterday (thank Heaven), and just now a fast- moving windy downpour roared through, barely announced by the radar. So the overnight rainfall here of 1.36 has magically become 1.46 as this storm passed over us. It was almost black as night for a few minutes. And everything outside is dead still, barely any leaves stirring anywhere.… Read more »

Hey dang it we are doing the best we can.
Good grief.
Six inches of rain in one week in San Saba?!
I always check out the radar for San Saba because of ELGORDO.
But, for the first time, I just now looked up San Saba’s average annual rainfall. I couldn’t believe that it is 27 inches. I figured it would be much less.
With apologies to LeAnn Rimes, Ellen Petersen and family quite effortlessly create the best version ever of this song.
Not only are they still making the 20K ohms per volt Simpson 260, it now costs $620 Bucks!? Most of this crowd may not understand what I’m going to say but an analog meter always loads the circuit a little, (that’s 20K ohms per volt thingy) so years ago they came out with a VTVM (Vacuum Tube Voltmeter) that had… Read more »
From over yonder El Gordo says;
DAYAAM! 3″ of rain in San Saba?!?!

A man crashed his vehicle into a security barrier near the white house and is declared dead.
I suppose the week minded have been driven into a frenzy against Biden with all of the Genocide Joe talk.

Ive got your geriatric hosers hanging, dude.
Blank you and the horse you rode in on.
It figures that you traveled around the world to find the ugliest horse available.
🙂 🙂 🙂
While all you geriatric hosers are counting your corns, dissolving your stones and visiting funeral home museums I’m still…
step it up you 15 pieces of flair hosers.
i remember when 200 comments per weekend was the norm.
Sgt Carter says I CAN”T HEAR YOU!!
More rain around our area expected tomorrow, so batten down the hatches would seem to be prudent.
And the Hitler in the Bunker fiasco adapted for the current Biden presidency is flat out hysterical in a good way. Gotta read it again tomorrow, maybe more than once to see if I missed anything tonight.
Another Hilter in the bunker video, Trump trial style:

Now there are clergy openly calling for pachapapa Francis to take a hike, voluntarily or otherwise.

Tylenol to the rescue. Good stuff, that. I am allergic aspirin, discovered that when I was 8 years old. In later years I found out that only one half of one percent of people are allergic to aspirin. Fortunately, my Mom was a Registered Nurse and knew this was serious. And with my reaction, there would not be any later… Read more »
Mr. C. is going to come out swinging, it seems. Good for him. And for all of us: Now let’s talk about the PREP Act, the 2015 federal law providing vaccine manufacturers with complete immunity and offering injured folks a pretend claims process. I have some hopefully big news. To preserve my clients’ privacy, and for obvious strategic reasons, I… Read more »
Well, looks like this edition of the C&C is gonna be a humdinger: Good morning, C&C, it’s Saturday! Which means it’s time for the Weekend Edition, and it’s a big one. Many of you have been patiently waiting for more good news, and today’s roundup delivers: astounding — if not landmark — New York Times long-form article finally admits there… Read more »
Thanks to the Tylenol, I was able to get 30 minutes on the treadmill. That’s good. I’m going to finally toddle over to the C&C and review his review on the latest legal shenanigans.
We just got Sarah and Buddy back from the doggie day spa where they were bathed, nails done, glands expressed. They were very glad to see us. I took them for walkies so they could take care of personal business and now they are inside and we are enjoying a clean house for a while.
Dang it is hot out there, 86 right now with bright sunshine. I had a fairly productive day although I didn’t work as hard as usual since I’ve been hard at it all week. The highlight of the day was when sister came over and we went to see David up on the hill and purchased 7 Guinea chicks, two… Read more »
We looked at the Brazos at I-10 yesterday.

Good Afternoon Hamsters, Nice to see the sun winning the battle with rain clouds in our area. In the past two days we’ve barely had an inch of rain, and we’re grateful it hasn’t been more. Snatches of what we went through in the Harvey experience keep popping up as news of what folks stuck with the current deluges northwest… Read more »
And now for something completely differenter than my last post.
And now for something completely different.
I got back from church in time, just before the clouds are moving in. At least my car passed inspection so I can get my new stickers. I guess I’ll run out to the backyard and take a look at my garden before the rain starts to come down again.
The Week In Pictures
Re: the OC Houston is also home of the National Buffalo Soldiers Museum. Throughout the era of the Indian Wars, approximately twenty percent of the U.S. Cavalry troopers were Black, and they fought over 177 engagements. The combat prowess, bravery, tenaciousness, and looks on the battlefield, inspired the Indians to call them Buffalo Soldiers. The name symbolized the Native American’s… Read more »
Of course dogs can fly.
Ain’t skeered of you.
Over Yonder, one of my lady friends from Florida said this and I quote; “When I get a notice of your post, I think what is that man up to now”.
Buddy the Dog just came outside with one of the wife’s bras wrapped around him, couldn’t catch him before I could remove it. So I guess he had to go show off his new outfit to the neighbors. He just came back and it finally came off lol.
Got everything ready for racing at Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige near Giddings tonight. They evidently didn’t get near the rain we did. Son’s hauler truck, ‘08 Chevy Duromax had leaking power steering hoses, which involved a kit, which means they knew they had a problem. Had to remove LF tire and inner fenderwell to access, but success. He has… Read more »
Stumbled across this over yonder;
Tommy Ivo’s four-engine, Buick-powered dragster was truly outrageous in 1961. Smoked all 4 wheels.
I’m guessing that GJT is the only one here that remembers Tommy Ivo, he was Bat Schickle Crazy.
So Biden gives out the “Freedom of Metal Award” to John F-ing Kerry, AL Bore, Nasty Pelosy, and the renowned southern Racist, James Clyburn! Also some other assorted losers that add up to a total of 17. Kinda’ cheapens the whole thing doesn’t it?
~SIGH~
First?! Dang it’s late where is everybody?
Oh well.
