Great picture and another 60’s Step Side Pick-Up, about a 65 I’d say but hard to tell at this angle. We may get some of Y’all’s rain later today and tonight maybe it’ll not be as bad by the time it gets here. The weather Guessers maps show it petering out the closer it gets to us just after it crosses I 65.
Hopefully I can something done before it gets here but that’s 50/50.
    BUT it’s Friday!

There has been a lot of reports of squatters lately and now we have an illegal using Tic Toc to inform all his buddies to come on into Amerika, steal a house and have lots of babies to get the free welfare. He says; I don’t want to work!!! UN-DAMN-BELIEVABLE! That’s the KIND OF crazy laws you get from Progressive’s Regressive’s. ~SIGH~

Beautiful Scarf joint, but how’d he do it? Hint look closely. 😉

I’m no carpenter but the scarf joint appears to have that arrowhead shaped piece looks separate and carved out. The “V” shape pointed down does not hold the top leg down though, seems odd.

That scarf joint looks to me to be held together with the pin above the v shaped section facing the viewer. I think the whole thing was slid into place at a45 degree angle from top back to bottom front.

Big race tomorrow night at Big O Speedway in Ennis, near Dallas. There are two dwarf car series in Texas – ours, Dwarf Car Racing Series of Texas and Lone Star Dwarf Club. We run at tracks in the south, they race Waco and tracks above. Race is dubbed North vs South, there is a heated rivalry between the two historically but they are trying to get along, we run two of these events this year besides the Nationals in Waco at the end of the year. So we’ll see. Forty five cars signed up so far.

Our seat belts expired last month so we are changing them out today (pain) and we have new power steering hoses to replace in his haul truck, Chevy Duramax. Evidently it is a factory issue and there is a kit to replace all of them, of course it’s never easy.

My childhood best friend lives in Dallas, our dads raced together when we were kids. My brother and I were spending the night at his house in Hereford when we got the call about the wreck that killed my dad in July of 1970, I was eleven years old.

Mom soon moved us to Houston afterwards so he and I have not seen each other since the funeral, I found him on Facebook last year, fifty three years later. We’ve continued to be in touch. He told me the other day he is coming to our race Saturday, will be great to see him again.

    Re squatters

There a guy in California who went through this with his mother’s house. It’s now his business, removing squatters from homes. His base fee is $5000 and he works with law enforcement to do it legally. He does his homework, though, to make sure he’s not liable to get perforated in the process.

Hubby’s had the backhoe here at the house so Handyman could use it to tote all of the yard wood trimmings to the ditch for pick up. Hubby is driving it to a neighbor’s house about a quarter mile away to move a tree that fell across her driveway. He wasn’t asked to do this, he wants to. I married a good man. He has no obligation to those ladies; he doesn’t even know them, he just knows of them.

It’s good to have a man with big equipment and is not afraid to use it. 😉

This house in Bellville was built by our maternal grandparents in 1935. Shannon and I sold it and closed on the morning of September 11, 2001.
When we walked into the title company that morning and told everybody what had happened less than an hour earlier, they looked at us as if we had totally lost our minds.

We sold the house for $50,000. In 2001 dollars, the house would sell for $87,663 in 2024. Today, Zillow lists its value as $197,400.

      1. Shannon Avatar
        Shannon

        Correct.

And the second story on the house was was added some years subsequent to the original build.

        1. Texpat Avatar
          Texpat

          Slight correction.

When our grandmother was a young divorcee, she went on a summer historical tour of New England with a group of schoolteachers. She fell in love with the Cape Cod style and later gave the architect drawings of how she wanted it built. At the time, there wasn’t another Cape Cod house in the county.

The home was originally built as a Cape Cod style house with big dormer windows, center staircase and two bedrooms upstairs. Around 1951 or ’52, they raised the roof, built out the exterior walls and made it into a full 2 story house instead of a 1-1/2 story design. It still looked Cape Cod on the inside, but no longer on the outside.

There is an old washhouse behind the garage where laundry was originally done by hand and an old wringer. The long four wire clothesline would be filled with clothing and all the bed linens every week.

With the remodeling, a gas line and electricity were run to the washhouse and a washer and dryer were installed. Our grandmother still loved to sun dry her laundry on the line until she couldn’t physically do it anymore.

The Salt Grass Trail riders camp every year right against and beyond the back fence line and the wagon group that would set up camp there would give our grandmother $10 or $20 to let them plug an extension cord into the washhouse.

            Super Dave

Great story. My grandmother had a “Washhouse” but didn’t ever have any kind of machine to wash with. She used a scrub board and heated the water in a big wash pot with a fire under it. I saw her do that and once I saw her use that pot to make another batch of lye soap using lye and lard. When REA brought electricity to the farm my grandfather ran two overhead wires out to the wash house to power a light and plug but I don’t know if the plug was ever used or if so what it was used for. FWIW; She didn’t have running water, used a bucket and windless at the well.

Candace Owens and The Daily Wire have parted ways after weeks of tension with her co-founder Ben Shapiro over the Israel-Hamas war and her promotion of various conspiracy theories.

‘Daily Wire and Candace Owens have ended their relationship,’ co-founder and CEO Jeremy Boreing posted on X Friday morning.

Mentions of ranchers in our family, Fred Schluens and Earl Byrd, Austin and Tom Green counties respectively, got me to thinking about hats. I used to own quite a few myself. My hats were all Resistols and the felt ones were almost all silver bellies. I didn’t wear dark hats.

When I was a boy, a very popular hat among men in Texas was the Open Road originated by Stetson and copied by Resistol. Here is a photo of the classic.

And here is a photo of President Lyndon Johnson wearing a silver belly Open Road. He made the hat style famous.

A big shocker for me a few years ago was to walk into the western wear stores in Brenham and see the prices on straw hats alone. They cost more now, sometimes a lot more, than what I used to pay for a nice felt Resistol hat.

    1. Bonecrusher Avatar
      Bonecrusher

If the R Speakers are going to cave in to the left they are useless to the right. Johnson is probably a nice enough kind of guy, but this repeated behavior has to stop. The correct path was to pass individual bills with plenty of time to read and critique/amend. Get tough with the Rs who do not want to get on board. Pass these appropriations bills one at a time and move them to the Senate, one at a time. If the commie Ds and squishy Rs can’t pass the bills, THEN SHUT THE GOVT DOWN UNTIL THEY DO.

The video of the border rush by illegals shows how effective Abbott’s securing of the border is going.

Once the illegal squatters start squatting in larger numbers and in more neighborhoods then maybe people will take notice.

I think they should all squat in Martha’s Vineyard right next to the Kenyan’s mansion.

    Good Morning Hamsters,

We got 0.45″ of rain yesterday morning and then enjoyed the following sunshine the rest of the day. Just enough to keep things moist but thankfully not the large amount to the east around Houston. Looks like white clouds are gathering from the west and moving this way, but we know that can change fast.

The circus many Pubbies are performing in can stop any time now. Those turkeys need to listen carefully to the real conservatives in the party and follow their lead or find themselves voted out of office, the sooner the better. Voters are taking names….

    True story.

Back in the 1950s, during the 7 year 1957 Drought, local politicians in Tom Green County asked the federal Bureau of Reclamation to help build a huge project which became Twin Buttes Dam & Reservoir on the Concho River. It was a $13 million plus deal and the people of San Angelo region would have to pay it back over 40 years.

Uncle Earl Byrd and the other conservative ranchers mocked the idea, said it hasn’t rained here in years and was a terrible waste of taxpayer money. The Concho was a bare trickle and it was absurd to think it would ever fill up the reservoir. They lost the battle and the dam was built.

Right at the end of the project of building a bone dry reservoir, it started raining 24 hours a day and didn’t stop a for couple of weeks until there was a fair-sized lake behind the dam.

The funny thing was no one in charge was worried about water anywhere and the reservoir basin was full of bulldozers, draglines, maintainers, front end loaders. They all were completely submerged by the time the rain stopped.

I heard this on the radio while I was in my truck this morning and the first thing I thought was that the left-wing whack-jobs have failed yet again. Think about it, Trump got kicked off all social medal and a friend says why don’t you start your own media companion so he did but he would never have done this except for his being censored on all other media. So they’re responsible for him even having a public platform. Then that fat pig DA in NY tries to extort a half a billion dollars out of Trump hoping she can seize his proprieties when he can’t come up with that much cash. Then out of the blue, his media company merges with another company and the Donald is $3 billion, with a “B” richer so he can sell enough stock to cover his extortion bill.

It is the favorite time of year to enjoy the wonders of Mother Nature waking up and spreading her beauty, leaving winter’s cold behind.
