New Comment System & O.C.

Okay we have a new commenting system.  There are a lot of new toys in here.  I do not delude myself, not everyone will be happy with the settings I have installed.  All I can do is find a happy medium.  Following is a list of things you are going to discover.

  • You no longer need to reload your browser to see new comments.

  • New comments load automatically

  • Look to the left and  you will see a floating ball that gives the total of comments.  When a new comment is posted you will see a ball in the ball with the number of new comments.
  • the new comments come in automatically and are highlighted.
  • New comments will be at the top. You will thank me for this when there are several comments.
  • The comment box will always be at the top. I cannot change that.
  • We now have threaded comments.  Yes I know some people hate it.  the thread can only go for 6 comments.  These collapse so they are ignored if you desire.
  • Hover over your comment and just lower right there is a sprocket with an edit button.
  • There is a “reply to” button under every comment.  This way you can reply directly to a comment.
  • At the top of the comments to the right there is a NEWEST/OLDEST drop down list.  Pick one and that is how the comments will be listed.
  • You can rate comments.  (This may not last long)
  • Comments are automatically “READ MORE” after 40 words.  I did this in memoriam of ******, who used to drive me nuts with his long comments he would drop right in the middle of quiet discussion between 3 or 4 people.  THIS FUNCTION IS NON-NEGOTIABLE.
  • There is an automatic spell check
  • And a reminder: No need to hit the refresh button.  New comments will load for you about 1 minute after the author posts their comment.

There are other functions.  I still have work to do on the whole blog.  When I get done  I know that all the parts fit together because they are all WORDPRESS products.  That last theme burned me bad.  ENJOY

I am at the office looking at a full sized screen and using a full sized keyboard. This is far superior to using the phone to blog. I really don’t know how Shannon keeps his sanity or eyesight using his phone to blog.

Once again I would like to extend a hearty handclasp to Mr. Squawk for fixin da blog. U da Man

I keep expecting Shannon to go blind from looking at that damned phone all day long. He’s got an expensive Apple laptop that doesn’t do anything but collect dust. Send ’em to school and all they do is eat the books.

    From last night;

Super Dave I highlighted “pear salad” hit the link button pasted the URL and all worked well. It ain’t me or the mechanics of the blog.

That is exactly what I did twice and the picture popped up.
    Also;

Aha if you paste a picture link into the comment box it posts the picture. so be careful out there.

So what is the difference in a picture URL and a picture link? I used the URL as always but got the picture both times.Oh comment box, I didn’t put in the comment box I put it in the little square that popped up.
That said; Computers hate me and I hate Bill Gates, so there. 😉

SuperDave – between last night’s discussion and this morning, I’m gonna have to get a can of pears – you’ve got me craving that stuff and I haven’t had it for decades – it was the very first thing I ever learned to “make” and part of earning my cooking badge in Junior Girl Scouts… LOL

Sister has been bringing them over for a few years now and when she brought the first ones, I’d not had them in at least 50 years, maybe 60. The ones she brought yesterday were especially good because the cheddar was extra sharp.AND they had the cherry on top, ain’t everyday you get the cherries. 😉

Well tomorrow is election day and I think we’ve lost out district. We’re in district #1 and our representative is Barry Moore but with redistricting, to make it more fair doncha’ know, the new #1 goes over and takes in most of old #2, Jerry Carl’s’ district so now Moore and Carl are running against each other.New #1 has 60% of old #2 and 40% of old #1 and Carl is ahead by 8 points! ~SPITS~ A few months ago a PAC started playing attack ads against Moore and now they’re going both ways, ads every few minutes on local TV. No telling how much is being spent on this one congressional seat.
Oh and Marjorie Taylor Greene showed up in Enterprise last week to campaign for Barry Moore and she called Jerry Carl a liar! Imagine that? 😀 Both candidates are of course trying to tie themselves to Trump and Greene said; “I’ve been to Mar A Lago and have seen Barry Moore with trump but I’ve not seen Jerry Carl there, I don’t think Trump even knows who he is”.

I was reading articles on Carl Sagan this weekend and I came across this episode.

In 1994, engineers at Apple Computer code-named the Power Macintosh 7100 “Carl Sagan” in the hope that Apple would make “billions and billions” with the sale of the PowerMac 7100. The name was only used internally, but Sagan was concerned that it would become a product endorsement and sent Apple a cease-and-desist letter. Apple complied, but engineers retaliated by changing the internal codename to “BHA” for Butt-Head Astronomer.” In November 1995, after further legal battle, an out-of-court settlement was reached and Apple’s office of trademarks and patents released a conciliatory statement that “Apple has always had great respect for Dr. Sagan. It was never Apple’s intention to cause Dr. Sagan or his family any embarrassment or concern.”

Carl Sagan died 28 years ago in 1996. This prescient commentary from him certainly applies today.

Science is more than a body of knowledge; it is a way of thinking. I have a foreboding of an America in my children’s or grandchildren’s time – when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the key manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what’s true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness… The dumbing down of America is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance.

Trump Can Stay On Colorado Ballot, Supreme Court Rules.

Former President Donald Trump will not be disqualified from Colorado’s presidential ballot under the 14th Amendment, the Supreme Court ruled Monday, killing critics’ legal efforts to disqualify Trump for being an “insurrectionist” as justices ruled states can’t unilaterally remove him from the ballot.

I did a flyby yesterday to see the new decor. Squawk, thanks many times over for all you do to keep the Big Comfy Couch from ending up on the curb.

I arrived home after getting my cuddle tank refilled with sweet girl and baby boy refills. Hubby had surf ‘n turf dinner waiting for me. I had only a few hours’ sleep Saturday night, but I stayed up for my internet gathering of my CDA group that is working through a consecration program. After that I started falling asleep on the couch. My couch. In my living room. I decided to drag my rather ample butt off of the living room furniture and finish unpacking before I totally crashed, which happed at the unheard of (for me) hour of 10:30 pm.

So, here I am after wrangling my rosaries this morning. I had string one of them 3 times, despite all of my efforts to ensure that the word “decade” still had some tie to the amount “10”. /sigh/ The struggle is real. Then Hubby needed my help with some stuff, I had to handle some urgent banking business.

So, here I am. I still haven’t had anything to eat and I haven’t reviewed the C&C for today, either. This page was my first stop on the internet highway today.

I like the color theme. It shouldn’t blow my eyeballs out in dim lighting.

Unanimous Supreme Court rulings are not rare.

    • Despite a widespread belief that the Supreme Court is hopelessly divided along partisan lines, 9-0 rulings aren’t rare at all. Since at least 2008, they’ve usually accounted for a plurality of rulings, and they never fell below 36% of all rulings during that period.

    • While 5-4 rulings tend to attract more public and media attention, they have consistently trailed 9-0 rulings in frequency.

    Hello Hamsters,

Am poking around trying to figure out how this all works, little by little.

Delighted that SCOTUS did a fast commentary on the Colorado folks’ wanting to remove Mr.Trump from their presidential primary election list. Fast as they could, the Supremes voted 9-0 and threw that in the trash can.

Hope the Turkeys who tried that are bruised! Must have been a Colorado High but not on any mountain.

Be very careful about blindly following Trump endorsed candidates. I know it’s difficult for presidential candidates to properly vet everybody running in every one of the 435 congressional seats, but this hypocritical SOB needs to be canned and hard.

Editor Paula Bolyard at PJMedia writes:

Moreno, who former President Trump has endorsed, joined Michael Hudak on his podcast “Fortify Your Data,” the conversation veered toward political issues. Moreno was the first to bring up guns.

“On the gun debate, we can’t say this is how many magazines you are going to have? What kind of gun do you need to have a hundred bullets in it?” he asked.

“That doesn’t mean I’m going to take your g-d gun away. Do you really need a hundred bullets at one time? I mean, do you have that kind of ADD? ‘No, no, I want to shoot a hundred bullets?’” Moreno and Hudak laughed hysterically at the notion that someone might want to stock up on ammo.

“There’s a lot of deer out there,” Hudak quipped.

“And are you going to eat a deer that has a hundred bullets in it?” Moreno added. More hysterical laughter over one of our most sacred rights.

“Can we have some types of guns that you say it’s kind of like porn? ‘PG,’ ‘R,’ ‘not-R’?” [more laughter]

“Can’t there be some common sense that says that one [gun] is probably out, right, without infringing on someone’s rights? Can’t we have universal background checks?”

    No and no.

Moreno went on to insist in the 2019 interview that he had no interest in getting involved in politics.

That makes two things he’s flip-flopped on.

SCOTUS ruled tonight to revive the stay against Governor Abbott’s law to arrest illegal aliens that the Fifth Circuit decided against.

Abbott deserves plenty of criticism, but any honest critic has to admit Abbott changed the whole game when he started busing and flying illegals to New York City, Martha’s Vineyard and Chicago. No single person in America but Greg Abbott turned the immigration invasion into a 24/7 media story across America.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, March 4th, is Judgement Day in Austin, Texas.

They will either choose a normal, reasonable new District Attorney for Travis County or they will follow this Soros-funded Jose Garza into the pits of hell.

The old Texas Monthly hand, Joe Nocera, came back to Texas to write the story.

It took a new resident, A New York City billionaire, to provide the momentum to get something done. That says a lot about the catatonic state into which the leftist establishment has driven the local populace. Fear is the weapon of the Stasi-like commies.

“You can literally connect Garza’s policies to these outcomes,” Lubetzky told me over the phone recently. “I’m independent, but I’ve voted for Democratic presidents my whole life. But this is a case of ideological extremism harming our community. I asked, ‘Why isn’t somebody challenging this guy?’ I had to do something.”

What he did, with the help of some other prominent Austin residents, was look for a more moderate Democrat to challenge Garza in the primary on March 5. They landed on former prosecutor Jeremy Sylestine, who had previously spent 15 years in the Travis County DA’s office.

A Native American who grew up on the Alabama-Coushatta reservation in East Texas, Sylestine has lived in Austin since 2006 and went into private practice in 2021, eleven months after Garza took office. And though he had assumed his days as a public servant were over, the group persuaded him to throw his hat in the ring.
