    How did I miss this;

Country singer Toby Keith dead at 62

Toby Keith had been diagnosed with stomach cancer

Country singer Toby Keith died Monday at the age of 62, his family wrote in a statement posted to his website and social media accounts early Tuesday.

“Toby Keith passed away peacefully last night on February 5th, surrounded by his family,” the statement read.

“He fought his fight with grace and courage,” it continued. “Please respect the privacy of his family at this time.”

I didn’t know that he had cancer and I wonder if my wife knew about it (she is my Country Music Expert). Of course I can’t ask her now since she and Dawg are still sawing gourds.

    Mornin!

Youngest son is getting a 40×60 shop with 12’ lean to running along one side put up on his property in Plantersville, today they are pouring the slab. I’ll be headed over there in a bit to watch.

Tbe shop will be new home to their frack fueling company, it is his shop 100% to do with as he wishes, they will pay him rent. The original founder/inventor of the company/system, who has since been run out out of the company for embezzling from investors and overall not playing nice, set them up in a huge 3 bay building which was outfitted to manufacture the tanks and pumps and handle the operation from raw material to day to day operation. Investors farm all that out now and they only have three employees there day to day, including my son.

Shop will also be home to racing operations and other tomfoolery, dad will have a designated corner. 😀

DAYAAM GJT color me jealous! So his company is building him a Pole Barn? Oh wait, they’re renting it from him so how much of the shop will be dedicated to the Fracking Operation and what does that entail, welding?

I’m still kicking around a lift but truth be known I don’t really need it but I have the pads just in case. Last I looked you can get a good one for about$3500 but that was before the dreaded COVID.

Oh and we’ll need pictures detailing the progress.

Right, he is putting up the building and the company will pay him rent. I don’t know if they ended up with a one or two year lease. He was going to build a shop anyway, this deal just sped up the timing and also allowed him to build a little bigger than originally planned. Not much required for business operations, they stage hoses and other parts going to the field operations. Son runs everything, one guy handles orders and the other helps out and is a floater, field and shop.

He is using a local guy he knows to put up the building, I think it is like a VersaTube type building (square tubing frame). He wanted red iron but a little too pricey.

The laws of thermodynamics, as I have repeatedly observed, do indeed apply to economics despite many so-called “analysts” claiming otherwise. In 2007 we got a warning out of China, and it was about another year and a half of denial and refusal to do anything about it before it all blew up in our faces.

Be sure to read the first link in the article I linked above. It was from February of 2007. Who remembers what transpired shortly after? Buckle up. This time it will be worse.

GJT, In my search for a building, I started with a regular steel building that believe it or not, wasn’t all that expensive then went to the Versa Tube type, at about a third of that price but settled on an old fashioned Pole Barn with 6’X6′ timbers for uprights, steel trusses for the free span roof and 2′ X 6’s everywhere else and it was only about 15% cheaper than the steel building but that’s not including the wiring that I did myself or the Big Azz Fan and roll-up doors.  Oh and the 12, 22 Yd loads of dirt was $2640 and they weren’t included in the steel building price either so my barn might be closer to 24% cheaper if I really looked close at the figures.

I might have mentioned that the Pole Barn itself came as a kit, everything needed, all wood, trusses, tin roof/siding and roll-up doors for $16,500 (42′ X 30′ X 20’H,  30′ X 30′ enclosed). The labor, dirt/pad work, concrete, 2 windows, 1 people door, gutters (with leaf-guard), sod, fan, 1 door motor and all wiring materials brought the grand total to about $52K

I think that I did OK and I do love the finished product.  😉

According to a map on CNN Houston’s eclipse info is below.  I think I my take a road trip to Round Rock to see the eclipse.  I’d go to Shannon’s domicile but he and I would just sit in the house and drink coffee and argue about chili with beans.

85-90% at 1:40 PM local time
Total duration: 12:20 PM – 3:01 PM local time
BTW the CNN map is the best I have seen for quick info on the eclipse.

I wasn’t familiar with VersaTube other than to have seen the logo on a building.  There aren’t many places for those types of buildings around here.

The founding history is pretty interesting.

Well, they started a business making tubular steel hammock stands and their first big break came when they became the primary supplier of hammock stands for one of the largest woven rope hammock companies in the United States. Tim and Bruce worked hard, the company grew, and in an ideal world that would be the end of the story. Unfortunately, we don’t live in such a place and when the hammock company was sold, the new owners used their own production facility for hammock parts.

All their eggs in one basket and then somebody took the basket away.

For some reason I could’t get the CNN Eclipse page to fully load.

After some frustrating NASA pages, I ended up on the US Naval Observatory site and you can click on the Need USA Location box, enter your town/state, click Get Data box and it will calculate your exact eclipse information via latitude & longitude.

Here is the results page for my grandson’s location.

We are 5 hours behind UTC time in the UK so the eclipse will begin here at 1:10 PM, peak at 2:25 PM and ends at 3:36 PM.  We’ll have a 91.5% obscuration.

I’ve seen a few VersaTube structures here, but they were not full sized buildings.  It was usually something like an RV shed.  Snow loads are a serious issue, especially if they sit for long periods without melting.  The hydrostatic pressure and weight together punish every kind of roof.  It’s interesting to observe the progression of design through the decades here as pitched roofs became steeper and steeper.

    FLYING ☙ Tuesday, February 6, 2024 ☙ C&C NEWS

Good morning, C&C, it’s Tuesday! Our extra-snarky roundup today includes: innocent aerialist cleared of espionage charges in India after monthslong investigation, provoking acclaim from rights groups; top country singer succumbs to SADS cancer; top royal family member and King of England sudden and unexpected cancer diagnosis; Princess of Wales’ mystery surgery and even more mysterious recovery, or non-recovery, or what is it exactly?; and Rogan shoves the Overton Window farther over in sudden deaths diatribe.

EXTRA SNARKY!  I feel like a puppy just before the food bowl is set down on the floor.

First off – the bird that has been held for 8 months under suspicion of being a Chinese spy has been released.

The trouble started, apparently, when Indian authorities were notified by alert citizens of the presence of one pigeon, pictured above, wearing an ankle bracelet marked with Chinese characters. They don’t mess around with this kind of thing in India. Naturally, seeing the bracelet, officials immediately suspected dirty work at the crossroads. It was their first thought.

The tree rat’s goose was cooked when more Chinese was found written on its wing feathers.  Intense scrutiny was required, natch.

Ah, but the bird was innocent:

…But fortunately, there was a happy ending. It turned out to be just a stool pigeon. Before PETA negotiations got off the ground, the eight-month investigation finally figured out that the pigeon had been marked because of its being in a Taiwanese pigeon-racing club,…

Next up, some sad news:  Toby Keith succumbed to an illness:

As far as I can tell, despite his cancer battle, Toby’s death was sudden and unexpected. There had been no news recently he was hospitalized, and he did not, apparently, go into hospice. It looks like he died at home. More tellingly, as recently as December Toby’s condition was improving. The hit singer told reporters he thought he had turned the corner and was ready to resume public performances:

    /snip

Stomach cancer normally has a solid five-year survival rate of 74%. I couldn’t find anything reliable about Toby’s vaccine status, but the singer faced multiple layers of mandates for traveling, entering concert venues, “protecting fans,” industry requirements, and who knows what kind of personal pressure from his doctors, managers, and so forth.

Toby got the best medical care available in the United States but sadly, Toby’s doctors were unable to save him from the aggressive stomach cancer.

RIP, dude.  You will be sorely missed.

And the Royals are being hard hit, as well:

It’s a Royal Massacre. The news of Charles’ mysterious form of cancer piled on top of Kate, Princess of Wales, being on bed rest recovering from mystery abdominal surgery, and Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, having been diagnosed last week with skin cancer.

As if that deplorable list weren’t enough, a Royal controversy erupted last week when Concha Calleja, an experienced Spanish television journalist and royals expert, explosively claimed in a Telegraph article that, according to leakers from the Royal Household, Princess Kate was in an induced coma following complications from her mysterious abdominal surgery.

The Palace denies the rumors and attacked Calleja’s integrity.  The princess is just fine, thank you, move along…

…But nobody has seen her. Prince William and a nanny have assumed all public-facing family duties with the kids, resulting in rescheduling all of William’s calendar for what the Palace continues to call a ‘planned procedure.’

Calleja is standing by her report, claiming that Kate is intubated in an in-palace hospital suite.  Mr. C. suspects it could be post-op sepsis.

Obviously, we pray for the good health of all these folks and for peace and comfort to their families during this difficult time. One wonders though whether they were all vaccinated at the same time from the same batch. I’m just asking; don’t cancel me.

I know they’re royals and here in America that doesn’t mean much, but they are also people.  Folks with families, with kids, with people who care about them.  I’ve never been fond of Charles or Camilla, but William and Kate seemed to be the most “normal” and likeable couple in that family.

It really has to suck for Charles right now, though.  Waiting 75 years to be king and only hold the throne for less than two years when this happens.

    Prayers for healing and care.

More cracking of the vaxx dam.  Or the damn vaxx:

Popular podcaster Joe Rogan has 15 million subscribers, 3 billion total views, and gets around 190 million downloads per month. It’s fair to say he has “reach.” In this recent clip from his show, Rogan blasts the vaccines over the pandemic of sudden death. “It’s crazy how many people just died suddenly after taking it,” he began.

Rogan, angry, did not mince words. He did not couch his diatribe in careful euphemisms. He did not hold back at all:

I’m sad (about) how many people were promoters of the vaccine then died suddenly. It’s craaaazy how many young people just died in their sleep after they took it. And everybody’s like, “nothing to see here!”
Just died suddenly. You ever go to the Died Suddenly Instagram page? Like, holy s—. There’s so many! So many people are talking about anti-Darwin, anti-vaxxers — and then you’re dead. Sorry! You bought into the wrong bulls—. If you really want to get cruel, THAT’S Darwinism.
Do you not know they lie? By now!? Are you not aware of the opioid crisis?  Are you not aware of Vioxx? Are you not aware of the, like, 25% of FDA approved drugs that get pulled? It’s 1 out of 4!
And they’re like, ‘what are you, an anti-vaxxer?’ ‘Are you a conspiracy theorist?’ ‘You fool, Darwin’s going to do it’s work with you…’
You’re modifying your genes you f—ing idiot! Like, what are you doing? What are you doing? You gonna just trust Pfizer?  ‘Well, they do support Anderson Cooper.’ “Brought to you by Pfizer.” And you’re like, oh, this must be legit?

The middle and upper middle class people of China were encouraged to buy stock in Evergrande and other huge real estate developers by the CCP.  They know beyond the charade it is a government owned entity and even if they don’t admit it, they have to be furious at losing life savings or portions thereof.

The US domestic commercial real estate market looks like a war zone right now.  I’ve been warning about it for years.

I’ve been driving around the affluent suburban and ex-urban areas of northwest New Jersey squiring my grandson around and the massive empty office complexes are stunning.  I’m talking about swanky, 400,000 to 600,000 square foot office castles with huge parking lots, covered solar panel parking, elaborate landscaping, etc. etc.  I’ve seen more than half dozen that have sitting empty for months, years.  It’s kinda scary.

I spent over an hour researching how to diagnose why my new washing machine wouldn’t start washing.  I had to stop so  could make a bank run, and on the way out, I punched the start button again.  It did the same thing – every light lit up and the “sensing” light blinked.  Something told me to hit start again.

Dang if it didn’t start filling with water.

Then they announced Toby Keith was coming on to sing.  I turned to watch for some reason.  Keith walked out on the stage alone with no band, no backup.  All he had was his acoustic guitar and he launched into this powerful ballad that blew me away.  He was raw and majestic on that stage and the entire audience of celebrities went to their feet.

    Breaking…Ronna be gone…

The chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, Ronna McDaniel, has told former President Donald J. Trump she is planning to step down shortly after the South Carolina primary on Feb. 24, according to two people familiar with the plans.

Mr. Trump is then likely to promote the chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party, Michael Whatley, as her replacement, according to several people familiar with the discussions. Under the arcana of the committee’s rules, however, Mr. Trump cannot simply install someone, and a new election must take place.

Ms. McDaniel has faced months of pressure, a campaign from Trump-allied forces to unseat her and growing dissatisfaction and anxiety in the Trump camp about the strained finances of the R.N.C. as the general election cycle begins early.

Mr. Trump likes Mr. Whatley for one overwhelming reason, according to people who have discussed him with the former president: He is “a stop the steal guy,” as one of the people described him. He endorses Mr. Trump’s false claims about mass voter fraud and Mr. Trump believes he did a good job delivering North Carolina, a 2020 swing state, to him.

You know what the tragic stupidity of this is ?

The atmospheric river arrived on Sunday and wreaked havoc with severe rain, snow and high winds. The storm followed a similar system that brought a deluge of rain to the state last week, leading to saturated ground prone to flooding with the second system. Catastrophic flooding did occur, particularly in Los Angeles County. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood watch for Death Valley National Park as the storm moves east. The park is the hottest place on Earth.

The people of California and their political leaders have fought building a water supply infrastructure since the 1960s and despite historic, massive flooding, all of this water will be gone into the Pacific Ocean and Californians will be whining and complaining about drought conditions in two months.

I have always understood the Mongolians belong in the special class of historic horsemen like Comanches, Cossacks, Andalusians and the Islamic Rashidun Cavalry.

In April 2015, an ancient cave burial at Urd Ulaan Uneet, located in the high Altai Mountains of western Mongolia, was plundered by thieves. Upon their arrest, police discovered various artifacts, including a finely crafted saddle composed of multiple birch wood pieces.

Now, in a new study, researchers from Mongolia collaborating with University of Colorado Boulder archaeologist William Taylor have described the find. The team’s radiocarbon dating pins the artifact to roughly the 4th Century C.E., making it one of the earliest known frame saddles in the world.

“It was a watershed moment in the technological history of people and horses,” said Taylor, corresponding author of the new study and curator of archaeology at the CU Museum of Natural History.

    Great OC post today, Texpat.

Be careful in Round Rock, Squawk. It’s a Commie stronghold where patriots are disappeared.

I know Whirlpool owns Amana, but I didn’t realize their washer parts were interchangeable.

We’re assuming the parts are interchangeable; the appliance guy told us the same guys make both lines, so we’re making an assumption.

I do miss those Kenmore products.

Growing up, we had a Kenmore cooktop.  Over the years of cleaning around the name plaque, it came off one night as I was finishing up the kitchen hygiene.  Underneath it was the name “Tappan”.

Hubby and I had a Kenmore washing machine for at least 20 years.  I began noticing an odor when I washed his work shirts; a very strong, disagreeable odor.  I didn’t notice it with my clothes (I refused to wash them together because the odor was transferable).  That should’ve clued me that it wasn’t the machine, but I didn’t notice the odor when I loaded the wash, so I eventually assumed it was some kind of oil from the machine.  I ended up giving it to my Office Help, who came from a good sized family and they didn’t have a machine of their own.  I still had the problem with the new machine, so it turned out to be something from Hubby’s shop.  I miss that machine, and last I heard, it was still cranking out clean clothes like a champ. /kicking myself

I looked for a vacuum cleaner that could handle the deep cracks in our concrete floors.  I picked up a Kenmore at a garage sale for $15.  The best buy I’ve made in a long time.  It’s the best vacuum I’ve ever had.  Guess what?  It’s a Panasonic model.  The last time I used a Panasonic vacuum was a kids’ craft night at church.  There was glitter in the hallway carpet and I despaired of getting it out, but they had a Panasonic vacuum that picked up that glitter on the first try.  Amazing.  When I realized I had a Panasonic/Kenmore vacuum, I was very pleased.

College Buddy told us he was in Germany working at a tool manufacturing plant, looking to redesign some of their assembly lines.  I can’t remember the name, but he said they were top line products.  While he was there, the line stopped, there was a little activity, then it started back up again.  “What was that?” he asked the foreman.  “Label change out,” he replied.  They had completed the production run of their name brand hand tools, and were working on filling an order for Craftsman.

Kenmore used to be a kicka$$ brand to buy.  Sears must’ve really been selective with their choice of manufacturers for their store brand.

I took Vioxx for a couple years. I didn’t know that it was withdrawn from the market.

In September 2004, Merck voluntarily withdrew rofecoxib from the market because of concerns about increased risk of heart attack and strokeassociated with long-term, high-dosage use. Merck withdrew the drug after disclosures that it withheld information about rofecoxib’s risks from doctors and patients for over five years, allegedly resulting in between 88,000 and 140,000 cases of serious heart disease.[3]Rofecoxib was one of the most widely used drugs ever to be withdrawn from the market. In the year before withdrawal, Merck had sales revenue of US$2.5 billion from Vioxx.[4]  – Wiki

I quit taking any NSAIDs many years ago. They’re just not good for you. You just have to deal with the pain.

In a Monday op-ed in The Hill, Buck said that while Mayorkas may be incompetent, his behavior wasn’t impeachable, and that doing so would set a bad precedent.

    The Hell?

so having the head of dhs allow a full scale invasion and then order border wire cut that is put up by Texas is not impeachable in Ken Buck’s opinion?.?

he should be thrown out of the party.

what a muddah clucking, blood money sucking Vampyre he is.

wonder how much he got paid to vote that way ?

and where was Johnson? It’s his job to make sure they HAD the votes.

The throw the game party doesn’t want to win.

Since I finished my apple run for the VW car club’s road trip (my little contribution to the gang), I’m going to try my  hand at candy.  I picked up some Skittles and Jolly Ranchers today.

BSue – the apples were the fastest cycle I’ve ever run.  Except maybe cheese shreds.

I’m wondering if the apples might’ve been better off being run through Fred.  Maybe next time, if there is a next time.

My brother must be tougher than me.  I usually go weeks without them.  Even though I avoid NSAIDs as much as possible, after going many nights without any real sleep, sometimes I’ll take a Tramadol and 400 mg. of Ibuprofen.  Sometimes, a body just has to have some rest.

Late again today checking up on the comments.  As usual, good, interesting stuff covering lots of news on all kinds of things to read here. 🙂

It seems that the Lame Stream Media are becoming more and more alarmed that lots of normal Americans are aware of their increasing tendency to pick and choose how to present news with a liberal slant, leaving out information in parts of articles that don’t fit their agenda.  They keep doing it, and it becomes more obvious to more readers who know things are missing.  Dumb and dumber self-destruction.  We have other sources of good information, but they don’t seem to notice it.  Their problem and not ours.
