I’ve had this flickering bulb in a single-bulb ceiling mounted kitchen light fixture. I noticed it a long time ago but never checked it out until tonight, when, for some reason, I felt confident enough to step up on my folding 2-step stool. It’s a cathedral ceiling so I had to stand on top. Discovered one of those nasty curly… Read more »

AC drive motors/generators are stupid efficient offering many benefits including tremendous torque, speed and control. Batteries are the problem and will be until technology advances. Hybrids sound like the way to go but that’s not what gets pushed.

During slow speed braking, the discs may never engage until the very end of the stop. The computer apparently senses how much braking you are asking for and applies the discs accordingly. After 80,000 miles I have never had anything but complete confidence in braking and I’ve had a few hairy stops. You simply cannot tell any difference from a… Read more »

I can’t see the pads, but I can darn sure see the rotors. They look like they did the day I bought it.

I also don’t anticipate ever having to replace my disc brake pads because the van has Regenerative Braking which assists the disc brakes. And the whole time you are braking you are also recharging the battery.

It all pretty damn fascinating once you start digging into it.

This is a comprehensive article by Consumer Reports on the Takata Airbag crisis. If you have or know anybody who owns one of these vehicles, there are still 11 million of them driving around with bad airbags. Check it out. Vehicles made by 19 different automakers (34 brands) have been recalled to replace frontal airbags on the driver’s side or… Read more »

But Hybrid High Voltage batteries are much smaller than EV batteries and can be air cooled. Large EV batteries must be liquid-cooled.

And once the engine is running, that same generator switches back to generating electricity to recharge the big, high voltage battery.

“Hybrids have powerful motor generators as part of their powertrain. Generators in hybrid cars have the ability to act as motors, which means that they can use electricity to turn the engine instead of generating electricity. This is a key aspect of the mechanics behind a hybrid start. By using the motor generator in motor mode, it’s possible to spin… Read more »

This is startling DETROIT — Toyota and General Motors are telling the owners of about 61,000 older Corolla, RAV4, Matrix/ Pontiac Vibe models to stop driving them because their Takata airbag inflators are at risk of exploding and hurling shrapnel. The urgent warning Monday covers: Certain Corolla compact cars and Matrix hatchbacks from the 2003 and 2004 model years. RAV4… Read more »

When I was a teenager and had an ancient 1954 VW bug convertible and the starter went out, I’d get a couple of friends to push it and then I would pop the clutch, with the key on, and it would start very single time. I was told by the original owners who bought it in Germany it was the… Read more »

Sometime in the late 90’s we purchased a Chevy minivan that would at times die on acceleration, randomly, very dangerous at intersections. Never did it to me and I nor the dealer could recreate it. An angry woman and the threat of the Lemon Law got her another vehicle.

Adee You might consider replacing with a hybrid. I don’t know the history of GM hybrids, but perhaps they have hybrid Buicks. I have 82,000 hard miles on my (almost 3 year-old) Toyota Hybrid. So far, so good. And the Toyota High Voltage battery is warranted for 10 years/150,000 miles. My van has a long-successful Toyota 4 cylinder engine, too.… Read more »

I don’t have any idea how it works for most people, but I knew at least two people who got fast results from a dealer in Texas by merely threatening to go Lemon Law on them.  Things were resolved fairly quickly, but things may be different nowadays.

How would you like to be some mid-sized town stuck with 20 EV buses purchased for $1 million each and not one of them is running right now ?

Who are you going to unload them to ?

Ford loses at least $20,000 on each new EV pickup they sell, not the least of which is in warranty claims.

These massive warranty claims on EVs at dealerships across the country are a huge two-edged sword for dealers at the mercy of the manufacturers. First, since the manufacturers have to reimburse the dealers’ service departments for every penny on every claim, the service departments are booming and generating tons of income for the dealerships.  And since service & parts departments… Read more »

I don’t know if the Texas Lemon law has been updated over the years but in the early years I recall reading many accounts of people trying to utilize it. It was a long, laborious, and insulting process that was clearly promulgated by the industry. I agree that y’all should get out of that car ASAP. The internet is rife… Read more »

#19 Adee: I’m of a mind that if the latest fix for the SUV fails again, we should suggest that the dealer take it back in trade for a Buick SUV we were originally shopping for, which would likely cost less than the beast. I would do this without question if it fails again.  Suggest is not the correct word,… Read more »

I raked up 4 gigantic bags of leaves from my front curb today. Due to the curvature of the street in front of the houses on my block, that is the longest length for my raking. It did me in, so I quit for the day.

I don’t about the Jersey boss man but I think this Army of God truckers group coming to Texas is another club fed setup gig.

Calling themselves Army of God is just to obvious to me.
