You May Not Be Interested in Scientism, but believe me, Scientism is very interested in you.
“Scientism is an over reliance on or overconfidence in the sciences as the only route to reliable knowledge. It is motivated by successful and effective technological outcomes that suggest scientific methods are a great, if not the best, source of knowledge for addressing any and all problems … This eclectic volume, which varies widely in style and scope, includes historical perspectives on scientism, religion, culture, and the humanities; critical assessments of cognitive neuroscience and neuroethics; and reflections on naturalism in epistemology. Two messages emerge from the variety: scientism must be distinguished from the sciences, and the practices and results of the sciences require explicit interpretation … Summing Up: Recommended. Graduate students and faculty.” –A. C. Love, University of Minnesota
and this from Dr. Shane Fudge,
A world under the spell of pseudo science
In relation to this perspective, a huge concern for writers such as Richard Williams (2014) has been the ‘over-reliance on and overconfidence in science as a source of knowledge regarding all aspects of human life and, ultimately, all human problems’. In this way, ‘scientism’ is argued by Hacker (2014) to be ‘the attempt to extend the natural sciences beyond their proper sphere of explanatory competence, and the use of the methods of the natural sciences to explain phenomena that require other forms of explanation’.
Particularly from the turn of the decade, scientific credibility, and its continued authoritative cachet, has been used both to justify and mobilise huge changes in our society. For those with their eyes open, the pandemic was orchestrated by a clear alliance between governments, billionaire technocrats and mainstream science.

Gosh, they look so young.
oh yeah. That was 55 years ago.
May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay forever young
48 minutes of Johnny Winter & Dr. John
I’ve never seen this before.
Oh well
Here you are
Yup, uncklo.
Hey Doc
Heard this one?
I can attest that neither of us willfully, knowingly drive in the rain. I can only imagine what Squawk has driven thru, but I’ve spent way too many hours in an ambulance stuck in flooding rains with water rising around it (and on parts of Shepherd in Houston, witnessed numerous manhole covers floating on top of mini-geysers from the force… Read more »
I Don’t Drive In The Rain
sounds like a really bad country song to me but what do I know?
Texpat nailed it on his trucker comment above.

Neat story about the Conroe bridge. We must keep in mind though, we can’t razz razz today’s yutes for celebrating today’s thugs if we did the same with the gangsters of yesteryear.
No on braces, had constant problems with my baby tooths but adult teeth came in no issues. Still ok but shoulda took better care of them.
😀
Back surgery and repeated mouth surgery.
Badass.
Shannon… It’s become necessary.
Hubby keeps telling me to remember it’s temporary and focus on that outcome.
It gets me through. That, and a pile of protein shakes.
Dr. John tells the story of Marie Leveau
Tedtam
Speaking of dental projects, you are are a brave mofo.
🙂
Did he say he doesn’t drive in the rain?
I’m calling BS.
I’ve spent my share of time on the road.
As for my experience yesterday during heavy rain, it doesn’t take much hydroplaning to slow my butt way down.
Never had braces. Not enough adult teeth to support them. Nowadays I just have surgeries to build a mouth.
I don’t drive in any rain. I ain’t scared I just don’t like to, Old truck drivers and road warriors like me reach a point in life where they figure luck and God’s Grace might be running thin and the escalation of fools and idiots on the road has narrowed their chances of survival in the midst of a highway… Read more »
Me either, Doc.
It was Texpat who had to suffer that experience.
yo uncklo
that would be a no on brace-os.
I don’t drive in any rain. I ain’t scared I just don’t like to,
RE: Braces —— No
My favorite version of this sultry song.
I’m taking a poll.
How many here never had to endure braces on their teeth?
Twenty extra points if you wore a head gear.
James O’Keefe is a what a real journalist looks and acts like.
a million times better than anything the propagandist corporate media has to offer with their fancy sets, leg crossing, glossed lipped fluffers and the empty headed animal, food trough wiping, sans a belt slacks suit wearers.
Nah. It’s happening to all of us. 🙂

Maybe a solution would be to look at 10-day weather forecasts and try to schedule your days around the bad rain and fog.
It is not foolproof, but it can definitely help.
Here is one, right here. It’s a good one.
John Stewart is returning to the fight.
I suggest we counter with a show hosted by Texpat and Dr phil
Is it just me that has come to find it hard to drive in a heavy rain? This happened to me a few months ago when I was headed home from a doctor’s appointment. It was raining literal cats and dogs, so splashy that I could not see anything through the windshield. I was driving with left window rolled down,… Read more »

Good to know, thanks. But I’ll stash the certificate I drove 4 miles for today, so if I ever need it again, I might be able to find it.
I am not positive but believe that, once you’ve renewed while presenting the certified birth cert, and gotten the “new format” drivers license, you won’t have to take the birth certificate next time 😉 I renewed mine on-line, which wouldn’t have been possible without having already done the birth cert last time around
58 Squawk I used my original birth certificate. Mine had a raised stamp white on a black page tuh boot. Y’all be dealing with some surly Lic place peoples. Let’s be honest here. These poor little clerks at the DPS are terrified by your fearsome appearance when you walk in and they’ll give you anything you want. They think you’re… Read more »

Re: Bonnie and Clydes Bridge #68
Here is a picture and story of the collapse.
Has before and after pics.
BobbieBonnie and Clyde were no where to be found.#63 Shannon The only eye test was a card with 6 large letters printed on it, in 2 sizes. Read them out with right eye covered, and then with left eye covered. Oddly, I was wrong on 1 letter in the larger size using the left eye, but I got the whole row of smaller size correct with each eye.… Read more »

Heh.
An ancient bridge near Conroe succumbed to flood waters. Supposed to be a location where Bonnie and Clyde camped out.
There are more Bonnie and Clyde stories in Texas than you can shake a stick at. Even in Austin County.
I don’t believe any of the Austin County stories, but the Conroe stories may be legit.

Hey, they got curbside voting now as well MH, remember that.
If they don’t make you walk a straight line and say the alphabet backerds, it’s a scam.

Besides having an eye exam, what else did they do to determine that you were still capable of driving?
So we old fogeys can prepare…
I sure did deal with some very nice and helpful people, at both the DPS office and at the Court House records office.
Just dawned on me, the extent to which I LUCKED OUT with my choice of the TX-DPS office that I chose because the online sign-up app presented it as the CLOSEST to my zipcode. Followed by being chewed out here online for not selecting an office that would have been easier for me to find… Had I chosen, for example,… Read more »
