Paul and Brenda Chabot and their four children moved to Texas to escape California

Children who grow up in politically liberal households are more likely to suffer mental healthproblems than their conservative peers, according to a new study.

An Institute for Family Studies-Gallup report found that “political ideology is one of the strongest predictors” of which caregiving styles a parent adopts, and conservative parents are associated with the best mental health outcomes for their children.”Conservative and very conservative parents are the most likely to adopt the parenting practices associated with adolescent mental health,” study author Jonathan Rothwell, who is also the principal economist at Gallup and nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, wrote . “Liberal parents score the lowest, even worse than very liberal parents, largely because they are the least likely to successfully discipline their children.”

And this,

The best mental health results come from “warm, responsive, and rule-bound, disciplined parenting,” Rothwell said. This style is otherwise known as “authoritative.”

Negative parenting styles include “authoritarian,” which is characterized by being “cold or harsh,” and the “permissive” style, which lacks proper discipline.

Socioeconomic status did not appear to dictate results, which “may be shocking to many highly educated Americans who were taught to believe that socioeconomic status dictates everything good in life,” the economist continued, adding, “Income doesn’t buy better parenting, and more highly educated parents do not score better, either.”

The style of parenting and the quality of the relationship between parent and child also shaped outcomes among families of different races and ethnicities in the United States, with no significant differences between demographic groups.

Note: This study was sponsored and conducted under the auspices of the Gallup Poll, the gold standard of surveying public opinion in America.  The lead author is Jonathan Rothwell, a fellow at the Brookings Institute, a left/liberal think tank.

One piece of good news about the Catholic Church that gives me hope: growing numbers of reports indicate that more of the incoming priests are conservative and traditional than of the pachapapa variety. It will take a while to work their way up, but at some point they will begin to replace the current episcopate. Since the traditional parishes are… Read more »

I’m open to all evidence and theories.

I’m not. The whole idea is without a doubt the stupidest thing I have ever seen in politics.

F’ing absurd.

Aw, come on.

Anyone who actually watched the Hannity-Trump exchange about the dictator BS would have noticed Trump was grinning when he said “only from day one”.

No doubt, Hamas wished to create a crisis. Its incursion into Israel had no military objectives. The goal was to horrify, to rub the faces of Israelis and their Western supporters in blood-soaked images, which Hamas itself posted on social media for the world to see. These acts of wanton destruction were also meant to inspire Hamas’s allies. Those who… Read more »

From a Catholic page Over Yonder: Late breaking news is that Bishop Strickland has been barred from saying Mass in the Diocese of Tyler. Query: If he cannot say Mass in his diocese, isn’t he essentially prevented from celebrating Mass anywhere because what other Bishops are going to allow him to say Mass in their Dioceses? I mean if another… Read more »

I have spent many hours out clearing tree debris off my driveway. First time I ever realized that blasted driveway is half a mile long! Whew, I’m tired. I now have 6 huge bags of twigs, pine needles, and some sort of tree nuts. It will take me 6 weekly trash pickups to get those bags out of the garage.… Read more »

Well, got an appointment with a retina specialist.  Unless my insurance won’t cover, in which case I’ll have to find someone else.

I had to make an appointment before they’d clear the insurance.  Weird.  It sounded like an insurance company requirement.

Sounds like an appropriate Ted Poe-like sentence:  woman who hurled a hot bowl of food in worker’s face is sentenced to work at fast food restaurant instead of prison

I’d like to see more of this.  When these Karens and overly entitled jerks realize what it’s like on the receiving end, maybe our society will become more civilized.

A chilly 31 here on the farm but we’ll warm up nicely to the low 60’s. The slight breeze out of the SW will bring warmer weather and some rain late Saturday.
