Black Friday Open Comments

I was never a fan of Black Friday shopping madness.  Here are some good reasons why:

1. “I saw an elderly woman steal an ice cream maker out of a man in a wheelchair’s electric cart.”

2. “When I worked at Walmart, we had a fight break out over a bike. Fists were thrown and there was some blood. Eventually, one guy got ahold of it and managed to get away from the crowd. He rode the bike out of the store (without paying).”

3. “Someone punched a security guard in the face because they thought he was a customer skipping to the front of the line. He was just walking in the door to start his shift.”

4. “I watched a woman collapse in hysterics into my manager’s arms because we didn’t have the exact model of cooler she wanted.”

6. “When I worked at Sam’s Club, we caught a woman stuffing the inside of her pants with frozen lobster tails. She would unpack them and throw the trash in a stack of tires that were on display nearby.”

7. “One of our male customers hit another male customer upside the head with a Crock-Pot. What were they fighting over? The Crock-Pot. Both customers had to be dragged out of the store by police.”

8. “They tore down our mall’s door. Again.”

9. “There was a sale — $1 for towels or something. This guy jumped into the towel bin and literally growled at anyone who tried to get a towel. He claimed them all.”

10. “Beanie Babies. They would toss the Beanie Babies from a bin on a table. People were vultures after these things. I was about 9 and an old lady grabbed a cat out of my hand. I stomped on her foot and stole it back. I was so proud.”

Some stories have been edited for length and clarity from Reddit.

I was listening to one of my podcasts today and the host gave out the info that the BF deals are usually for the lowest quality merchandise.  He was pulling from his time at Best Buy and some other retailer.   He did note that the best time to go grocery shopping was on BF, and some good deals on the “it’s not Thanksgiving any more” food items.

Y’all stay safe and sane.  And away from the stores today.

I managed to put the wire wheel on an angle grinder to 2 chairs today, one got primed and painted (rattle can) and the other will have to wait until tomorrow.  I need to buy 2 more wire wheels, about 2 chairs is all they last and I have 3 more to do.  A sandblaster is a better way to… Read more »

You should have seen the uproar in the shul one Shabbat when I asked this question during the Torah portion discussion with the Rabbi:

So when all these corrupt, evil tribes were lurking around persecuting the Jews on the way to the Promised Land – the Hittites, the Amorites, the Canannites and the Democrats….

Here’s something to fatigue your compassion.. In his new book, Steinacher reminds us that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), as the Swiss-based organization was formally titled, deferred to the German Red Cross throughout the 1930s, when Hitler’s concentration camp system was first put into operation. Already “deeply Nazified,” the German Red Cross assured the ICRC that “the… Read more »

This is nothing but a sly, not even clever, scam to get people to give money to struggling, leftist psychologists who can’t make their car payments.

Does the article come with one of those disclaimers like “Sponsored Ad” ?

Forget Post Traumatic Syndrome.  That is so last century.  You may be suffering from “Compassion Fatigue”. Today, however, he often uses the term “compassion fatigue” to refer to the emotional and physical exhaustion that sometimes afflicts people who are exposed to others’ trauma. Well, I just heard the trash truck come by, so I was glad I got almost a normal amount in my barrel at the curb. I was surprised by how few barrels had been put out on my block when I went out with a few more bags of trash an hour ago.

This commentator is giving this International Red Cross spokeswoman in Geneva a real horse whipping on I-24 channel in Israel.  She is a perfect example of a bureaucrat who can talk endlessly and and say absolutely nothing.

I only cook my turkeys using the internal temperature method – 175° in the breast.  I ignore the time method.  When it’s done inside, it’s done.  I have the probe feature in the oven and I also double check it with the fancy meat thermometer Shannon gave me.  My turkeys with the brining marinade overnight always turn out perfectly moist.

#7 Super Dave,

Right you are, today is the start of Christmas season shopping frenzy.  Hope it will be a good one for the merchants in Texas.  For some other states in the country sadly that might not be the case.

Yesterday, son Ted served up the best turkey I’ve ever eaten. He doesn’t do anything special, though he does cook it in a baking bag. He says that over the years he learned that most people overcook the bird. “When it’s done, it’s done. I’m not trying for a beautifully browned, magazine-photo finish. Once I figured that out, my breast… Read more »

6 Super Dave I’ve had the same experience with that brining recipe. I’ve been using it for many years, but yesterday my turkey was a little off.  It wasn’t the same flavor and the texture was stringy and a little weird.  Nobody complained, but they didn’t eat as much of it either. I had never cooked a 25 lb turkey… Read more »

In other health news, my excessive carbohydrate binge yesterday felt nearly fatal last night.  I love good food and like to cook, but I’m not a big eater in terms of volume.  Normally, I am a one meal a day and a protein snack person.  We had all kinds of potatoes and gravies, biscuits, etc.  Egads.

They found the cause of our dad’s internal bleeding. He was in a really bad car accident in 1990, I believe, where he suffered several ruptures in his guts, which I remember it taking them forever to figure out and repair, I didn’t remember anything about his esophagus but evidently, they had to put some kind of bands around it.… Read more »
