Good morning.
A super hard downpour awakened me at 2:30.
Now another line is training over me.
-
Coming down hard here in 77066. I’m in one of those areas where my mailing address is Houston but I can’t vote against she-jack. I don’t (and won’t) skip the vote, but I often do skip many races due to a pitiful lack of choices. I’d like to primary out Eye Patch McCain but I don’t think it’s feasible. Generally I just go to vote against the gubmint spending more money they don’t have, but even that is becoming more difficult.
-
I didn’t wake up to any storming during the night but I bet it did. Buddy the Dog is in his house crashed, he hasn’t went in there since last winter.
-
I screwed up my breakfast. Overcooked sausage patties. Broke one egg yolk, undercooked the other.
The toast was fine. 🙂

Good to see y’all finally getting some rain. Dry over here in Alabama, last rain was 1.5″ on September 21 not a drop since. I broke down yesterday and watered the grass around the Pole Barn. This is were we sodded the grass and it’s pretty well established except for a few spots that were looking sad so I thought I’d perk it up a little.

The revenuers ain’t got me yet:>)
Mark Dice brilliantly trolls FOXNews when Trey Gallagher was the talking head. Watch and laugh.
Poor Mr. Potato, Brian Stelter, who was a favorite target of Mark Dice.
This is right out of Rules for Radicals: pick a target and mock it mercilessly. The right needs to do more of this to the worst of the worst on the left.

Well our old Cuisinart Coffee/Grinder/Maker finally bit the dust on Sunday Morning. This thing was a Christmas gift from the kids in 2017 and at first I wasn’t impressed with it and I didn’t figure that the grinder thingy would last 2 foggy mornings but I was wrong! It’s been dutifully making coffee every morning since then. Oddly enough the grinder still works but the heating element went south, so on Sunday it ground up the coffee and just sat there. We have a Single Shot Keurig maker that we use for the occasional one cup of coffee so we’ve been using it until the new one gets here. I ordered it on Sunday and they say it’ll be here by 10 PM today?! FWIW; It left Hotlanta at 2:59 AM this morning so I’m not holding my breath since it’ll have to through the Amazon distribution center in Enterprise before it gets here. That said, I have received orders on the next day although rare.
-
My #5 We do have a big fancy Keurig coffee pot down at the Farm House for when guests come.
-
Well, I’m up and hobbling around. Slept with the knee brace on last night even though I’m more comfortable with it off. The trigger finger is more annoying than ever, but it’s not locked in place, so there’s that. Sciatica on the bad knee leg is teasing me this morning.
I remember pulling up to some friends at church, realizing and saddened that I’d missed the funeral of a friend of mine. Her kids were all laughing and reassured me that their Mom knew I’d’ve been there if I’d known, and they were all okay because they knew where she was.
“Mom told us that if she’d known getting old was going to hurt so much, she would have died a long time ago.”
Ah, yes, I’m beginning to understand. RIP Maxine.
-
At the office we have Keurigs and Cuisinart pod coffee makers. The Cuisinart will accept any pod and they have an onboard pod so you can put whatever you want in it. The Keurigs only last about 18 months, the Cuisinart will last 10-15 years.
I have a Cuisinart at my house after the Keurig crapped out after a year. I expect the Cuisinart to last at least till 2040.

Getting more rain here at the Dome, but I braved the wet and dripping back yard to harvest a few green beans. The power outage yesterday didn’t get resolved until midnight last night. When I went to bed I was surprised to hear that it was still running. I was wondering if it had failed to turn itself off, but no, it just took Centerpoint that long to fix the problem.
It was hot and humid yesterday. When I stepped outside briefly yesterday afternoon I felt like was visiting an rain forest. I’m so glad we had a/c.

#4 Bones, The first clip is good but the second one is a MUST SEE! Pathetic doesn’t even began to describe little Brian Stelter. BAWHAHAHA!!!!! 😀

About the Keurig’s, it is advisable to use only DI water in the damn things since any tiny .001 micron particle in the water will clog them up. Ask me how I know. I’ve mentioned that our “City” water that we get out here in the sticks is from a reverse osmosis plant and is ridiculously soft. I’d bet that it would be fine in the Keurig coffee pot but I still wouldn’t take any chances. Oh and I do use plain Tap Water in the Cuisinart. 😉
-
Take it from me, do not buy a Cuisinart toaster.
-
Wow.
Standing water in the front yard.
Haven’t seen that since Spring.
-
At the last minute, a really bad cell slipped below I-10 just before it was going to hit me.

BENEDICT A. ☙ Thursday, October 5, 2023 ☙ C&C NEWS
Good morning, C&C, it’s Thursday! Your delightful roundup today includes: Ukraine freaks out that McCarthy was removed as Speaker; Establishment Media freaks out that McCarthy was removed as Speaker; Establishment Republicans freak out that McCarthy was removed as Speaker; rumors of a McCarthy-Pelosi deal gone sour; CDC ditches vaccination cards; Liberty Counsel wins huge fee award from DOD for beating military mandates; media mocks conservatives after FEMA alert fails to crash civilization and my thoughts about the End of the World; and an uplifting story about the quiet counterrevolution.
News:
Ukraine is “freaking out” over the ouster of the Speaker. It interferes with their gravy train running from DC to their economy.
The LA Times is freaking out as well. I think it’s time for me to go wash my hair or something.
The fact that mainstream media is upset that McCarthy is gone should tell you everything you need to know. They were happy to attack him while he was a good whipping boy, but now that he’s gone…
So — whoever is being the secretary – go ahead and add another point in the Gaetz column since, like the Ukrainians, woke Establishment Media is also mad that McCarthy is gone. I’m not saying McCarthy was working for media’s real deep state bosses or anything. I’m just saying.
And of course the R’s who voted him out are now being called “traitors” by their supposed own.
First of all, two days before Gaetz initiated his removal, McCarthy sided with democrats to pass a budget over Republican objections. The LA Times even made the same point, unironically beclowning itself:
The ultimate betrayal, Campbell said, was that Gaetz had criticized McCarthy for working with Democrats, then turned around and banded together with the opposing party to oust him.
So McCarthy did it first, creating the precedent. Now don’t come crying to me about “siding with democrats.” Lie down with dogs, get up with dog hair all over you.
Second, and more important, Matt Gaetz was only following the rules of a game that McCarthy created to get the Speaker’s job in the first place. The deal was, if McCarthy ever welshed on the deal, any one member could call for a floor vote to remove the Speaker…
…they’re just trying to use the controversy to get rid of Gaetz for daring to do something like disrupt the deep state’s Proxy War.
-
I had heard the story about Pelosi being evicted from her “hideaway” office, but I didn’t realize it was the SPEAKER’S OFFICE.
There was more. Remember how the first thing McCarthy’s deputy Speaker did was evict Nancy Pelosi from the Speaker’s office, which she unaccountably continued to infest? The unconfirmed rumor is that McCarthy had made a deal with Pelosi. She was to keep the Speaker’s offices — where McCarthy should have been — and democrats would vote against any motion to remove McCarthy. So he thought he had insurance. But Pelosi welshed, so McCarthy-ally and deputy Speaker immediately evicted her from the office.
I don’t know if it’s true. But it would explain the odd Pelosi office eviction that happened immediately after McCarthy was evicted from the Speaker’s job. So it seems it’s up to Kevin McCarthy now, to deny the rumor, and explain why the very first order of business was evicting Nancy after all this time.
Other rumors this morning suggested that Kevin McCarthy is now moving into the Speaker’s offices. I hope that’s not true.
-
And on to WLR/CDC news: no more free vaccination cards from the feds. Since no more free vaccines, no more free cards. Medical establishments will have to make their own.
The most telling line in the article was: “The federal government doesn’t keep vaccination records.” No, they don’t, do they? They never even tried that hard. And right about now, federal vaccination records would be very useful for diagnosing vaccine injuries, wouldn’t they? Too bad we don’t have them.
The lack of transparency is so easy to see through.
-
More great Florida news:
According to a settlement agreement filed in the Middle District of Florida yesterday, the DOD must pay Liberty Counsel $1.8 million within 21 days to cover attorney’s fees and costs after two years of litigation over vaccine mandates.
After Liberty Counsel successfully obtained multiple restraining orders and injunctions, including a class-wide injunction, on January 10th, 2023, the DOD was finally forced to abandon its grotesque medical mandate and rescind its August 24, 2021 and November 30, 2021 memoranda.
It took a year and a half to beat the mandates, which seemed like forever but is not a long time in legal terms.
Good for the lawyers at Liberty Counsel.

Personally, I would outlaw pod coffee makers. The coffee from them is an abomination.
That’s right, I said it !
I have only used a drip coffee maker with beans ground daily for many years. Everyone who comes to my house , including all the friends who use Keurig at home, rave about how good our coffee is. I don’t get it.
The Keurig company itself is an attempt at a manufactured monopoly and a whole lot of grocery retailers fell for it. The dominant local supermarket chain here, Shoprite, decided when Keurig came out to overhaul their extensive coffee aisle and get rid of all the brands of coffee beans they had sold for years.
Why ? Because with the advent of Keurig nobody in America would grind their own beans anymore. I am not kidding. Keurig actually went to all the grocery store chains in the country and told them that and Shoprite believed it. Check their family trees; these executives come from the same families of morons running our military right now.
I walked into the Shoprite coffee aisle one evening when this was happening years ago. There were several workers pulling all kinds of coffee and beans off the shelf and replacing it a hundred flavors of Keurig pods. Also standing and watching this was the store manager with four or five senior company executives in nice suits. I told them this was one of the dumbest things I had ever seen. They actually said Keurig told them they didn’t need coffee beans anymore. I wanted to give them my mother’s line about being told to jump off a cliff. I told these nicely dressed men they shouldn’t be supporting a monopoly and they would live to regret it. They just stared at me slack-jawed as if no one ever had the guts to tell them they were wrong.
Oh, there are plenty of coffee beans back on the shelf these days, but I won’t buy them. The beans were the draw for me to shop at that chain so they lost a customer over their foolishness.
-
Note to self:
When this Keurig dies get a stove top percolator.

I went through several short-lived drip coffee maker brands before I finally broke down and spent money to support the French economy. The first Cuisinart lasted about 12 years and we are now on the second one. Twelve years is a long time with the very hard water we have here.
NOTE: Since we’re discussing consumer products.
A recurring reminder to not buy any Samsung appliances.
We have a 3 year old Samsung 55″ smart TV and we still cannot figure out how to master the hundreds of features on it after reading the manual over and over, on air instructions and endless internet searches for tips and help. The picture is absolutely great and we have no complaints once we eventually are able to find the show we want to watch.
We have a 4 year old Samsung built-in microwave oven in the kitchen. It has all kinds of features, but trying to figure out how to adjust the power level, for instance, is impossible. The instructions are useless. I finally gave up. I use the Breville countertop oven more than the microwave because it is perfectly logical and user friendly in its operation.
There are endless complaints on line, in customer reviews, very similar to mine about Samsung products. The products are great but trying to use them is a real pain in the …

BTW; The Pig still has an 8 O’Clock Coffee Beans Grinder, just like the local A&P back in 1960. Remember this grind selector?

#12 Super Dave
I’m sure some form of those rules were in force when my teacher-grandmother arrived in Bellville as a single mom.
I’m just glad the rules had been relaxed by the time I started chasing a student teacher (Wife 2.0) in the late 70’s. 🙂

I will never buy another Samsung product for as long as I live. We inherited Mom’s 4K Curved Screen TV. The thing is about 4 years old and cost Mom a bunch of cash when she bought it. It has developed bleeding into the picture similar to this. I did all the suggested fixes…….. no joy. Of course it is out of warranty and will cost me a pretty penny to get it fixed. Not worth it. I’ll buy a new something or other than Samsung. Samsung tech support is no help at all. They use 3rd party repair services BTW and the one here in Texas has major complaints against them
-
My last comment on coffee.
What I really want is a burr coffee grinder. The problem is they can run into the hundreds of bucks. The average household that grinds their own beans (like me) uses a device originally designed to grind up nuts & spices or, to be precise, pulverize them. They were never meant to be used for coffee beans.
If you want the very best tasting coffee possible you need a burr grinder for your beans.
I may check out this OXO unit that Amazon sells for $80.
-
Super Dave @#19
Roger that. My first coffee ever was out of one of those.
-
My paternal grandpa always used the old style stovetop percolator. Put on about 5AM and drank it all morning. Not sure if he put fresh grounds in every morning or if just kept reusing.
Oh, and once he had the coffee started he put on a pot of pinto beans. Everyday.

I will never buy another Samsung product for as long as I live.
Me neither.
I bought this Samsung TV and Bose speakers in November of 2023 for Her Highness’ 70th birthday. I looked at the curved screen which was pretty new at that time. For some reason, maybe intuition, I decided against it. I’m always leery of “new cutting edge” products. Let somebody else discover the flaws. I’ll be happy with the road-tested models and never wanted to be the first to own the newest new thing.
-
Bring back Curtis Mathes quality. I owned a CM back in the early 80’s. Best TV I have ever owned.

Good rainy (at last) morning Hamsters,
At last, steady rain is falling on our place. It is nothing hard but continuous since sometime early this morning around 4 when Purrscilla kitty woke us up. She isn’t a fan of rain on the metal roof of the garden room. That usually makes her hide under our bed for the duration or until she’s hungry enough to come out.
Every drop is soaking in except on the concrete driveway and walkway to the house that now have small puddles. You can almost hear the great sigh from all the green life around us that finally has the dust washed off properly so it can breathe normally. Current total is just about to make it to 1 inch. It would be nice to have rain all day.
Spouse put on his boots and grabbed the umbrella and went out to the mailbox post that also has newspaper tubes on the side. Paper was in the mailbox in a plastic wrap. He unfortunately took the wrong end of the wrap and the paper slid out on the ground. So we had sections of the Chron draped on the backs of kitchen chairs to dry so we could read it without poking holes in it.
Unfortunately for neighbors across the road this rain has come in the midst of them having a new septic system installed, though surely the old one is still functional. Big piles of dirt and sand in the front yard and a hole dug where the new one will go. The installers came by to look at the situation and decided it is too wet to proceed today.
When we built our house we had two septic systems installed , one on the kitchen, laundry room, and half-bath side and the other on the bedrooms side. That arrangement has several times paid for itself when one was not working properly. Our builder thought that was not necessary, but we insisted. So glad we did.

Redundant systems are good insurance.

By the way, we had a terrible experience with Bose which was a real disappointment. I always admired the company and its founder who died 10 years ago. He never took it public, never cashed out and maintained the high level of quality the company was famous for until…I’m not sure.
Anyway, the first sound bars flat out failed after a very short usage. Bose said to ship them directly to their repair facility. We did and they shipped them back and said they were repaired. They still didn’t work. I called and Bose said they would ship new ones but Her Highness was so disgusted by then she turned down the offer and this is a home with 3 Bose radios.
A friend of ours told us about the ZVOX sound systems and we have been more than happy with their sound bar. I can’t speak more highly of their speakers. They also have hearing aids, headphones and other stuff.

Morning, gang! It’s still raining here! I got up late and could see that Billy Cat was down inside the gazebo. He usually prefers to sit or lie down on the edges surrounding the central opening which once held a large hot tub. Except when he would be getting wet there. Looks like poor wet-averse kitty has had a miserable week.

There were several pigeons pecking at a few kernels of corn scattered around under the breezeway from last night’s chow-down, so I put another scoopfull there for them. The next time I looked, there was a young raccoon working away on it.
I am very popular when there is bad weather in the back yard.

I think Mharper is pretty darn popular no matter what the weather.

I have a doctor appointment tomorrow morning. I could have gotten in today, but Hubby is in Bryan and I’m not self-driveable yet. We both have a strong feeling that an MRI is in my future. I’m doing better without the crutches today, but that’s probably due to the NSAIDS that I’m taking for pain.
I can be sitting at my computer, legs on a stool for comfort, turn my knee just the slightest bit – and there’s a teeny tiny pop! inside the knee and I end up laying on the couch with something under my leg for support. Trying not to cry. Or instead of a pop, just a general build-up of an ache. Same end result.
I let Lovely Daughter know I’d be missing her baby shower. Turning down a chance to see her family just kills me. I want to be there so badly. /sad
If I at least knew what I did to hurt myself that would help. I’d know to avoid it in the future.

Remember Jamaal Bowman, the rep who pulled the fire alarm to stop an official proceeding/vote in congress? MTG has a lovely video explaining why his excuse is absolute BS.
In order for the DOJ to have even a pretense of a shred of credibility, they must prosecute the miscreant. It won’t happen and we all know why.
There are a bunch of lamp posts in the DC area that need decorating. . . . . .

Bsue – I don’t know if you’re interested in keto, or in just reducing your sugar, but I saw a recipe for homemade ketchup:
- 10-12 oz tomato paste
- 1/8 – 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar (or in my case, sugar alternative)
Optional flavoring suggestions: black pepper, ground mustard, dried oregano, cayenne, onion, garlic powder
I’m thinking about FDing some condiments. Using the recipe from John in Bibs that you shared, the store bought mustard, and using the above recipe, I could FD condiments in my candy molds and then vacuum pack them. I have some little mylar bags that would be perfect, or a small canning jar (like a jelly jar or smaller), or in a plastic food saver bag. Ready for travel.
As long as I have a bottle of water, I could have condiments for the road.

I feel for this guy and he’s deserving of prayers.
Steve Scalise who was shot and came close to dying 6 years ago is running for Speaker of the House. I just heard today in an interview with Matt Boyle of Breitbart that Scalise has been diagnosed with a serious case of cancer and has been undergoing radiation and chemotherapy.
You have to hand it to him. Steve Scalise is an optimist.

great on scrambled eggs with some picante sauce mixed in.

I am a salsa eater myself. I didn’t really like ketchup even as a kid.
My brother and my mother would put it on everything.

As long as there’s French fried pertaters there will be spicy ketchup in the house.

Spotted over yonder; THE SAN JACINTO INN offered all-you-can-eat family style servings of shrimp, seafood and fried chicken accompanied bowl after bowl of side dishes.
I do believe that there is someone here that used to like that place. 😉

Of course, if you like salsa and you’re not hungry, you can always do this.

It looks like they shot that photo off the conning tower of the Battleship Texas. The vehicles look like perhaps 1970s vintage.

The very best ketchup I’ve ever tasted was a batch my Mama and Nannie made when something like a 1/4 acre of tomato plants all ripened at the same time… Only thing I remember about it was that it had horseradish in it – OOOOOH La La ;). But then I do have her Good Housekeeping cook book – and I’d almost bet that’s where the recipe came from

You have probably tried a signal booster but if not I use the channel master that is listed on this page. I am 60 miles from all the TV stations in Houston trees, buildings and anything elsde that can block my signals and I get pretty much everything offered. You might try the HD Stacker on this bottom of this page. I dunno if Denny ships antennas any longer you would have to call. I have used the EZ HD on the same page mounted under the roof. Works really well from here.
Tell ya what if you have a good amplifier I have an EZ HD that you can have if you want to try it. If it works great if not you can leave it in your will to someone else.
Now if you really want to sell your TV I’ll be glad to discuss a price back channel with ya.

My BETA called to give me an update on Green Cousin. She keeps falling down, has (re?)fractured her L4 and is scheduled to see a neurologist, is in a nursing home for rehab and gets dialysis through them. She has zero kidney function at this point. She keeps falling down because she’s so weak, the dialysis is kicking her butt, and the toxins that keep building up in her blood are all working against her. She loses touch with reality.
BETA said that Green Cousin told them that she’s tired and just wants to “go home”. They were too scared to ask which home she was thinking of.
I think I just need to pray for God’s will at this point, and comfort for the family. This is hard to watch. Green Cousin has always been big as life and twice as natural, and real spitfire. She’s losing her spark. This is really hard for me to hear. I’d like to go visit, but I can’t drive up there now, and BETA told me not to try. GC won’t know if I’m in the room anyway.

I remember picking Sheba up after she was spayed. I see her at the end of the hall, on the leash, head down. She sees me, she smiles and her whole body perks up. She attempted to jump up and abruptly decided it wasn’t a good idea as soon as the front paws broke from the floor. If I wasn’t feeling so sorry for her I would have found it hilarious. She was still happy to see me, and vice versa.
She was a great, great dog. I miss her.

When I became pregnant with Lovely Daughter, I realized that I wouldn’t be able to spend as much time with Sheba as she was used to, so we went to the pound and got Aggie. They got along famously for the first few days, and then in the years to follow it seemed they just tolerated each other. I caught them playing together every now and then, but they didn’t cuddle up to sleep or anything.
Aggie died first, and Hubby buried her in the backyard. I was heartbroken when Sheba curled up on her grave for three days, not moving.

We used to have a large flock of pigeons that came to our patio for corn kernels on the weekends. The birds lived under and around the Tidwell bridge over White Oak Bayou, about 2 blocks away from Chez Harp. Now it’s been 10 years or more since I last walked down to that bridge, so I don’t know if there is still a pigeon colony around there. But I rarely see more than 10 pigeons looking for chow.
I do still see doves and one or two families of cardinals. We used to have quite a few sparrows that lived in some hedges in the back yard, but those plants died and the birds left.

Pigeons and doves are the John Fetterman/Joe Bidens of the bird world.
They are dumb and stupid. I watch them everyday out my back windows and doors.
It is not arguable. I know what I”m talking about. They are worse than turkeys.
Early this morning Her Highness opened the second story bathroom window and held her iPhone with the Cornell bird app to the window and identified at least 13 varieties of birds and the doves and pigeons fell onto the ornithological autism spectrum.
Heh, I am an expert.
