Religion: The Greatest Threat to Totalitarian Regimes?
On this episode of International Reporters Roundtable, we shine a light on the persecution of people of faith. This doesn’t just come from oppressive regimes—a dangerous trend is also emerging in free societies. Three groups stand out: Christians, Jewish communities, and Falun Gong practitioners.
Christians, murdered in parts of Africa and increasingly suppressed elsewhere, are now being labeled as terrorists in the United States. A vastly outnumbered Israel is being bombarded, while many Jewish students feel compelled to hide their identities on college campuses.
Meanwhile, Falun Gong practitioners in China are hunted down and robbed of their organs while still breathing—and those living in the United States are monitored, sometimes attacked, or their families back in China are threatened.
Why are people of faith a target? Why does the United States still do business with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) … when they know of the imprisonment, torture, and killing of people of faith? July 20th marked the 24th year since the CCP began its violent suppression of Falun Gong practitioners. They’ve been marching in Washington D.C. ever since, and are still being ignored.
This country was founded on its people having a moral conscience, and liberty for all. Yet here, too, faith is under attack by the government and media. Is it perhaps due to a belief in a higher authority than that of the establishment?

I believe that last sentence nails it. If a government wants to be your god, it can’t have the real one getting in the way.

I thought all possums were cross-eyed, rabid, full of worms and disease but I can’t recall ever seeing a lead singer playing upright bass.
Has Harper ever noticed a cross-eyed possum?
Me neither.
Dr phil
goooood stuff
I finished re-watching the entire 1883 epic series with the finale airing this evening. If you are the father of a daughter, you cannot watch this without being moved to tears at the ending. In fact, McGraw said the moment they ended the shot of the last scene with him and Isabel May, everybody on the crew from Director to… Read more »
Today’s weather was a smidge better than yesterday’s regarding humidity and just plain hot, until we got to sundown. Went out on the back porch to shut the garage door, and the minute I got out there that old humidity was back and miserable as before. You have to sort of swim through it again, definitely smothering again. Good Night… Read more »
Just wondering.
Why are Barry Sotero’s sexual preferences a thing?
Best moments right there.
BTW; The youngest granddaughter has always been kind of shy around me, unlike the oldest but this trip she seems more grown up and likes to tell me things and show me stuff. We or she caught a Hermit Crab and was all excited telling me about it. Later when I was heading up to our room I heard someone… Read more »
#62 Shannon,
Sounds good to me.
They could just take you up yonder, honey, you’re already wild and blue
It has been a long day but a good one. We went to the beach then to the pool and at the end of the day back over to Barefoot’s for supper. Then we went out and chased sand crabs and shad. I caught a small fiddler crab just before he got me with his left pincer and dang that… Read more »

An unexpected Ribeye in the freezer is always nice.
My Sweetie is out of town a few days so left to my own devices, I dig through the freezer to find a ribeye. Later I get the Weber going nice and hot, threw the steak on and got my digital thermometer out to check temp and see it’s already showing 100 degrees, then my mind wanders, wondering how is… Read more »
Sounds perfect.
I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one left a bit empty without at least some kind of gathering of friends in the honor of my old friend Katfish.
I’m accustomed to these things being handled differently.
What say we try to meet up after the Summer From Hell and raise a glass to that rapscallion?
I just got off the phone with Guppy (Katfish’s son).
The only planned Katfish memorial that he is aware of will be held next March at the 2024 BACA Texas State Convention in Kerrville.
If you are aware of any other memorial gatherings, we are interested to hear the details.
Thank you, Tedtam, for being our bridge to TexMo’s family. We’ve had a rough time since Hammy died.
Ah, she assumes now that the BACA chapter did one without us. She’s all good. Wants to have lunch with me some time.
Texmo’s wife just texted me about Katfish’s memorial. Were we going to schedule one?
JP weighs in on the Big Mike debate.
I liked Max Meyer’s plan to not even bother invading Quebec. I agree. Like he said, the Quebecois aren’t worth it and too much of a pain in the a$$. We’ll let them be an independent nation on the condition they agree to a fixed export price on maple syrup for 25 years. I didn’t know but Max says Quebec… Read more »
Just checked the temperatures front yard and back yard. Good Lord help us, no possibility of rain here today or all this coming week sayeth the weather folks. Good thing the sprinkler repair man came yesterday morning to fix leaks in 4 system pipes. It is now all working well again. And there is a steady light breeze now. Back… Read more »
#52 mharper42. Now there is a practical suggestion. 🙂 Would suspect that more of the western Provinces would like to join the US, no joke. Alberta has certainly said it wants to be the 51st US State. That should have shocked a few folks. I saw that in a newspaper some months ago. There’s lotsa oil in them thar… Read more »
It worked. Stay tuned Icebergs history. Gds tablet
Not lost just out of touch. New tablet. Agree invade Canada. Please.
Back from lunch locally at La Cocina on FM359 going north just before Richmond. Good Mexican food from a large menu, home-made from family recipes and newer recipes invented there from the family recipes. Good stuff from good folks. As usual we bring leftover boxes home for lunch tomorrow. Generous portions. 🙂 Purrscilla cat knows the aroma quite well but… Read more »
The face on the vary far left is Lovely Daughter. And yes, Southern Tragedy is kinda behind us.

Another one is having military cargo planes fly thousands of O&G folks from Houston to take over Alberta.
Heck, I’ll come outa retirement to be in on that!!! I assume there will be a need for O&G software…
Lol, that’s funny as hell.
This is really hilarious and it’s a shame Texanadian is lost somewhere in Nova Scotia and is going completely miss out on the invasion and takeover of Canada by the mighty United States of America. It’s about time ! Max Meyer is a military genius. One of my favorite parts of the plan is attacking next June during Toronto Pride… Read more »
#41 Olden Days…
Center in a pale blue shirt: Shannon with Faye to his right. Far left in background: woman facing left might be Southern Tragedy.
Wow, great pic. Where’s all the gray hair? I was a no-show at that one. I didn’t realize Fay was at any of them.
No, Bama Belle didn’t move to Texas until many years later.
#44 Shannon, I’m pretty sure the one with her back to the camera is Emmy Kelly and is the girl on the far right Bama Belle?

Wow, someone will have to remind me of the location.
Of the faces that can be seen, L-R:
LD, you-know-who, Tedtam, Fay, Shannon, and Katfish.
Looks like Fay had quesadillas.
#42 Wagon, just the girls (kids). I can’t tell you the number of times we passed a rest stop on I 10 and I heard “I gotta’ Pee” from the back of the van about 5 minutes later. :wink; BTW; I had to log in yesterday for the first time in a while but I am on my Lap-Top so… Read more »
Kids or the wimmins? Could be both since the kids are pre-wimmins.
Since I’m reporting from my Lap-Top I found an old LST Brew-Ha-Ha picture. How many of these folks can you identify? I’m guessing about 2005? 😉
I got the compound established on the Beachhead a little before 7AM and there were 2 more cabana’s already there off to my right. Now there’s 5 to the right and one Jackass even shoehorned one in between mine and the first 2. I knew I should have put out the grenades with the trip wire. 😀 Oh well, he… Read more »
The zoomies never get old. Twelve yr old Buddy the Dog doesn’t get them anymore but he stays active, gets his exercise chasing the UPS truck.
I had to get up about an hour ago to let my psycho-pup, Sarah, out to P. She jumped all over me and basically lost her mind again, got the zoomies, and just behaved like a puppy. She has eaten, pooped, and is finally chilling out.
I wish I could bottle that energy.
Instead of going out to eat breakfast, I think I’m going to make it at home. I mean, we *have* the eggs…and I don’t want to go outside any more than I have to.
It’s a good thing SuperDave is enjoying the beach. While he can. /heh heh heh
Salvete, omnes! And…WE’RE ALL GONNA DIIIIEEEEE! Scientists have discovered that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) accidentally released a storm of boulders “as deadly as Hiroshima” during an experiment testing whether the trajectory of an asteroid can be changed. They were able to deflect the asteroid in their test in September 2022, but…they also dislodged 37 boulders which are now on their path… Read more »
Dateline P.C. Beach Florida; Well we made it to the beach I left a little ahead of the others and arrived about 2:30 PM the crew didn’t make until about 3:30.
