Friday’s One Makes A Difference Open Comments

Kenny Xu of Color US United

The young conservative activist Kenny Xu is not just talking about a revolution.

He’s dead serious about ensuring that Americans are treated by qualified doctors — not those accepted to med schools because of their victim status or the color of their skin, he told The Post.

“Medicine is the one place where everyone agrees DEI should not be a criteria,” Xu, 25, told The Post.

The son of highly educated Chinese immigrants, Xu is determined to end what he sees as dangerous and hypocritical “anti-racism” and woke-ism policies in higher education, especially in medical schools, and bring back academic meritocracy.

He and his campaign group, Color Us United, had their first big win last month when the medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill voted to ban diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) statements from hiring and tenure decisions.

He is only 25 years old and he has already made a difference.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day dear Hamsters.   Today everyone is Irish as far as the celebrating, and all you have to do is wear something green to fit in.

Spouse said it was raining and stormy around 2 this morning, enough to awaken him briefly.  As for me, I didn’t wake up until 6 this morning to feed Purrscilla kitty and then went back to bed for an hour or so.  This time we got some welcome rain, 1.25″ so far.  Unfortunately the live oak blossoms are not finished yet, so the cleanup of the first batch two days ago is messy again.  Pleasantly cool 44 is most welcome.

Something different than the old DC based conservative think tanks, I hope.

Leftwing ProPublica posts an “expose” on a powerful conservative network most people have never heard of.  It’s the brainchild of entrepreneur Evan Baehr, Sen. Josh Hawley, Peter Thiel and Leonard Leo, Federalist Society honcho, who led the judiciary project in the Trump White House that resulted in a supermajority on the Supreme Court and appointed 28% of all judges on the federal bench.

Leo revealed his latest battle plan in the previously unreported video for the Teneo Network, a little-known group he called “a tremendously important resource for the future of our country.”

Teneo is building what Leo called in the video “networks of conservatives that can roll back” liberal influence in Wall Street and Silicon Valley, among authors and academics, with pro athletes and Hollywood producers. A Federalist Society for everything.

    and,

Teneo co-founder Evan Baehr, a tech entrepreneur and veteran of conservative activism, said in a 2019 video for new members that Teneo had “many, many, many dozens” of members working in the Trump administration, including in the White House, State Department, Justice Department and Pentagon. “They’re everywhere.

”The goal, Baehr said in another video, was “a world in which Teneans serve in the House and the Senate, as governors — one might be elected president.”

Here’s how “the Left” works in America, according to Baehr.

“Imagine a group of four people sitting at the Harvard Club for lunch in midtown Manhattan,” he said in a 2020 Teneo video: “a billionaire hedge funder,” “a film producer,” “a Harvard professor” and “a New York Times writer.”

“The billionaire says: ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if middle school kids had free access to sex-change therapy paid for by the federal government?’” Baehr continued. “Well, the filmmaker says, ‘I’d love to do a documentary on that; it will be a major motion film.’ The Harvard professor says, ‘We can do studies on that to say that’s absolutely biologically sound and safe.’ And the New York Times person says, ‘I’ll profile people who feel trapped in the wrong gender.’ ”

After a single lunch, Baehr concluded, elite liberals can “put different kinds of capital together” and “go out into the world” and “basically wreck shop.”

    plus this,

Baehr and Thiel lamented what they saw as the fragmented state of conservative networks, with their hidebound think tanks and intellectual centers that hold sway over right-of-center politics. A rare bright spot on their side, Baehr and Thiel agreed, was the Federalist Society. Thiel had, in fact, served as president of the Stanford Federalist Society. What if there were a group similar to the Federalist Society for venture capitalists or corporate CEOs or members of the media? (Thiel did not respond to a request for comment.)

It is, in fact, a well-written article and an example of how to compose a professional piece of journalism.  I wish the Right had more writers like these three authors.

Right on Kenny Xu.  Ordinary folks are getting mighty tired of the La-La Land, non-thinking, “woke” bunch trying to ruin the culture of America. You know, where talent and ability doesn’t count first and foremost until the idiotic DEI turkeys are satisfied.

The Biden administration working as a partner and state enabler of pimps and thugs.

Over 20 women who are believed to have been trafficked into the United States and forced into the sex trade were rescued in Polk County, Florida.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd noted that most of the women identified as victims of sex trafficking are Cuban and were trafficked across the Mexican border.

Judd added that the victims likely started as refugees before coming into contact with human smugglers, often referred to as “coyotes,” who help migrants enter the United States in exchange for a fee. He also noted that it is likely that they were told they would have to engage in prostitution to pay off debt.

Judd noted that the women were threatened with harm to their families back in their home countries if they did not comply with traffickers. A few of the women had arrived in the U.S. within the last 2 weeks, he also stated.

“The human trafficking victim is a very difficult victim to work with, because they are scared,” Sheriff Judd explained.

    FROM THE MAGAZINE

    Victimhood Forever

California’s preposterous push to offer reparations to blacks—in a state where slavery never existed—will inflame racial tensions.

I beg to differ a bit with the premise:  The Chinese were, in fact enslaved, to build the railroads and work in mines.  That being said, after 50+ years of racial preferences, minority set-asides, and outright discrimination against white, hetero, Christian, males; the notion that any reparations should be paid by people today for crimes committed by other people long before they were born to people today who were never victims of said crimes is nothing short of preposterous and amounts to vote buying with taxpayer money.  It is disgusting, demeaning, and destructive to everybody; no wonder the left is so much in favor of it.

    Worst News of the Week

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas is considering a run for mayor of Houston, according to three sources familiar with her plans.

Reached by phone, Jackson Lee declined to comment. But a former district staffer, Trey Daniels, called Semafor to say the congresswoman has been asked to “seriously consider” a run by prominent elected officials, constituents, faith and community leaders.

“Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee has never faltered on her commitment to the 18th Congressional district nor to Houstonians,” Daniels said.

Morning gang.  Cool morning here, but stayed above freezing.  Supposed to stay cool for the weekend.  All the outdoor plants seem to be holding up well so far.  May just stay inside today and brew up another big batch of cabbage soup.  If it’s too cold to go outdoors in shorts and a tshirt, then it’s too cold to go outdoors to work in the garden.  I took a peek inside the worm farm this morning, and they are either well hidden or they have all died.  I found a couple wiggling around, and I did not start with many to begin with, so it may jest be too soon for them to get settled in.  I figured that if none of them were trying to escape, they either all died or they are happy in there, so we’ll just wait and see I guess.  I might decide to get a few more to increase the population somewhat.  I don’t know if there is sort of a minimum number that you need to have to establish a “critical mass” from which they can begin to work their magic.  Trial and error seems to still be one of the best learning methods.

Bob Lanier – Cronyism defined, crooked as a dog’s hind leg

    Kathy Whitmire – Leftist lunatic

Anise Porker – More concerned with furthering the LGTQ+ agenda than efficiently running the city

Lee. P. Brown – A man so stupid and corrupt he gives Joe Bidet a run for the title

Sylvester Turner – A sleezeball’s sleezeball.  Lying, corrupt, disgrace of a human being

Can’t we do better than this?!?

Sheila Jackass Lee as mayor would be the equivalent of a direct nuclear strike on the city.

Years ago, an old time newsman in Houston, whose name I can’t recall*, wrote a great piece on the political history of modern era (post-Depression) Houston mayors and pointed out not a single one continued their political careers after serving as mayor.  He had interviewed almost all of them and the consensus was once you have the authoritarian power of the Houston mayor’s office, nothing else in politics looked appetizing.

I just remembered his name.  Garvin Berry and here is a brief obit from AP in 1998. He would be 98 today.

HOUSTON (AP) _ Journalist Garvin Berry, who worked in newspapers, radio and television, died Tuesday. He was 73.

Berry most recently was a contributing editor for KTRH, where he had been news director from 1981 until 1986.

Berry worked 15 years for newspapers, primarily at the now-defunct Houston Press. He later worked 14 years in television, mainly at KTRK in Houston, before joining KTRH.

Berry’s survivors included his wife, Betty, and six children.

The war against sanity and our children rages on.  Megan Fox is an excellent investigative reporter at PJMedia and carefully wrote and produced a YouTube video exposing a vile transgender freak openly grooming and recruiting kids on TikTok.

YouTube cut off her income from it.

The video took off on YouTube and is currently passing 55,000 views. Normally, this kind of activity would pay pretty well but YouTube has declared the video too “graphic” for viewers and has demonetized it. This means that I cannot collect any revenue from the video’s popularity. Usually, a video with this many hits so early after publishing would net a few hundred dollars by the time it was done rising. That’s not an insignificant amount for a small YouTuber like me. (Have you seen the price of eggs?)

But I will earn nothing from this video, despite its popularity because YouTube has decided that it’s “graphic.” What have I discussed that is so graphic and disturbing? Transgender grooming. I agree that trans-identifying people grooming kids is upsetting, but it should fall squarely into the acceptable category for advertisers because the language I did use was not graphic at all. I did not describe child abuse. I used the word “grooming” in its proper context as law enforcement would. I defined cyberstalking according to UK law. I also played a recording of Jeffrey Marsh talking to kids about going “no contact” with their families. None of it could be considered “graphic.”

I asked for a human review of the video because I had been very careful to edit the words that I know YouTube hates like “suicide” or swear words. Despite using carefully chosen wording, it still failed the human test. Someone at YouTube reviewed it and deemed it so upsetting to viewers that it could cause them trauma.

She has posted it at Rumble and if you have time, please go there and watch to help support her and the platform.

Via Glenn Reynolds at Instapundit comes this column from Fortune:

For nearly 2 months, a short seller was warning on Twitter that Silicon Valley Bank was about to blow up. ‘It was sitting there in plain sight.’

Martin said he initially started analyzing SVB out of suspicion that he’d find weakness in its book of loans to Silicon Valley startups. Instead, he realized how vulnerable the firm’s fixed-income investments had left it following a year of deep losses in the bond market.

“They had bought all these mortgages at the top of the market and were sitting on a massive unrealized loss,” he said in an interview. “And it was sitting there in plain sight. There were a number of other banks and insurance companies with similar issues, but I haven’t seen anyone anywhere near the scale of Silicon Valley Bank.”

If this was so obvious to a former hedge fund operator and short-seller sitting at his computer in New Jersey, where were all the banking regulators ?  Where was the San Francisco Fed ?  Where was Fauxcohantas and all her rules and regulations ?

These people are all liars, layabouts and fools.

Still too cold to go outside in shorts and tshirt, so working on a big ole batch of cabbage soup and just staying inside.  Got a batch of chicken thighs on sale the other day, so those will go just fine in the otherwise vegan soup.  Sports start at about 5PM this afternoon, so I may have to work in a nap before that, but then again, I might just forge on ahead and forego the nap.

My owner of the meat market suffered a heart attack last week and has had to foego a lot of his operations for the time being.  I think he had some bypasses.  Don’t know what I’ll do for meat if he can’t get back to work pretty soon.  I stopped in this morning for some burger meat, and the cupboards were pretty bare.  I really depend on those guys to help me stay keto since grocery store meat just does not cut it.  Reminds me, I go to Marble Falls for my electrocardiogram next week, then off to Lakeway for surgical prep, then back to MF later to get with my regular specialists including derma,  uro, cardio, hema, optics, and financial aid after all that.  Going to be a full week.  My pelvic cat scan which was conducted to search for the hernia turned up 2 hernias, calcified lower aorta, enlarged prostate, kidney cysts.  It did say my hip replacement looks good though, so everything down there is not broke.  Oh well, aging happens whether we like it or not.

Well, I went for back x-rays this morning, in preparation for my next (and last) surgical checkup.  I think I may ask for copies of all of my medical records from the surgeon, just ‘cuz I want hard copies for myself and because when my insurance changes my doctors will probably change, too.  It’ll be easier to give new docs the records rather than chasing down past docs and their records.

After x-rays, I stopped off at my lender friend’s office to get some papers signed and notarized.  They were only about four miles or so from the imaging place. The door was locked, but the office manager/notary saw me, broke into a big smile, waved, and let me in.  Paul, my lender buddy, was there, too.  Neither one of them were scheduled to be there, but they were waiting on the a/c guy to stop in to fix something.  Serendipity.  We got the paperwork done,  hugs all ’round after catching up on family and friend news, and I was outta there.

Next up was attending the noon mass at Annunciation.  I made it in time and had time to put myself into “sacred space” mode before the mass started.  I stayed for Stations of the Cross, so I was in church for about two hours.  I had modify the kneeling after a bit.  Just couldn’t do it.  I’m sure Jesus understands.

Then I swung by Kroger to get corned beef and cabbage, since our Cardinal has given us a dispensation from the “no meat” schedule for Lent, in honor of St. Patrick.  Hubby likes corned beef, so I was glad I was able to scarf up the last package the Kroger had on the shelf.  I also got some sale beef, $3.77/pound for some roasts.   I see canning in my future….

So, I’m finally at the computer, the ever so sexy BGS strapped around my torso.

Everything I did had a purpose today, but I feel like it was a holiday and not a work day.

  39. El Gordo Avatar

Had a little nap and feel refreshed.  It’s a little too early, but I’m having a big ole mug of the cabbage soup, so I may not eat my regular dinner until later.  Got college baseball at 5.  Sun is out, but still cool as winds are brisk.  Critters will get to feast on chicken thigh bones this evening.  They seem to go pretty quick when I set them out on the patio.  Created quite a bit of worm food in the soup making process.  Seems I can freeze the vegetable trimmings and dole them out as needed rather than just piling it all in the worm bin.  I’ve got so few worms to start with it will be better to feed them on an as needed basis rather than all at once.  I probably should be starting with more worms, but we’ll just play this all by ear for a while and see how it goes.  I’m not seeing anyone trying to escape, and I hear that’s a good sign as they are escape artists if things are not to their liking.

Bananas are not on the keto program, but I decided to take one on the chin for the team, so I bought a banana, ate the good part, and put the skin in the worm bin. I might have to sacrifice and do another one soon, but it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.
