Now that’s funny.
-
There’s an ugly rumor going around that as of today Katfish has attained a fairly respectable age of 68 or so. Lord only knows how.
Or particularly why.
-
I guess that Shannon couldn’t sleep. So we’ve made it to Friday again? And March is just around the corner.
Happy Birthday Katfish!
And Mornin’ Gang
-
Morning gang. Cooler out here this morning, but warming back up tomorrow. Have a good day. Here’s Ammo grrrll. And Happy Birthday Katfish. https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2023/02/thoughts-from-the-ammo-line-463.php
-
Feliz cumpleaños, Katfish.
-
Morning Gang – it’s drippy out here in the woods… and Katfish – come on in… the water’s fine – I been swimming in that year’s pool since just before Christmas. Seriously, be blessed today – and every day
-
Start the day with some good news.
A school district was forced to pay over $100,000 in legal fees after banning moms from exposing pornographic material at school board meetings.
Forsyth County School District [FSC] agreed to pay attorney’s fees in a federal lawsuit brought by a group of parents who were censored at school board meetings.
The group, called the Mama Bears, claimed in the federal lawsuit that their First Amendment rights were violated and won the case due to the legal representation of the Institute for Free Speech.
The Mama Bears settled a federal lawsuit against the Georgia school district after one of the group’s members was barred from reading sexually explicit excerpts at school board meetings.
FCS will pay the Mama Bears nominal damages of $17.91 and their attorneys $107,500.
“Fee shifting is an important feature of our civil rights laws; and successful plaintiffs who are able to show that government officials censored them are entitled to having their attorneys’ fees paid by the wrongdoers, just like for any other form of illegal discrimination. We hope that school-board members and their lawyers take note,” Institute for Free Speech senior attorney Del Kolde told Fox News Digital.

Happy Birthday Katfish!

Another one of us rounds the Sun successfully! Happy Birfday!

WAR EDITION ☙ Friday, February 24, 2023 ☙ C&C NEWS
Based on the roundup, Mr. C has been busy, busy, busy…
Happy Friday, C&C! As promised, I have a big war mini-roundup for you this morning and some thoughts on what it all means. Plus: Goya rides to the rescue; more celebrity SADS; another win in California’s Supreme Court protects kids from local school jab mandates; California sees a teeny-tiny shortfall from its projected tax revenues; the great big war roundup; Tennessee lawmakers push back in the culture wars; and a little local interest story is a great example of the growing slow, steady pushback against pandemic overreach.
News from the C&C:
One good thing comes from Mexico, aside from the adult beverages about which I know absolutely nothing but have heard good things, is Goya foods. They have stepped up and shipped food to the folks in East Palestine.
I may have to go shopping today and buy some of their stuff.
Childers also notes the fact that independent media outlets have been the main source of news in and out for the chemically nuked town. Corporate media has let them down. I can’t even imagine how little we’d know and how little would’ve been done for these folks if the lefty MSM was our only source of information.
After all, it’s only after a lot of sunshine was put on that little town that FEMA and Bootyjudge were finally shamed into making an appearance. For whatever that’s worth.

More C&C – School mandate slap down:
The San Francisco Chronicle ran an uplifting story Wednesday headlined, “School Districts Can’t Require COVID Vaccines, California Supreme Court Affirms.”
In December 2021, a California court struck down the San Diego School System’s local vaccine mandate for kids attending district schools.
…two charter schools and a former state senator, Dr. Richard Pan, asked the California Supreme Court for a limited type of relief: They asked the Supreme Court to let the decision stand, but to make it “unpublished,” meaning that it could never be cited by any future case and would not bind any other California courts or school districts.
… the California Supreme Court denied their request… leaving it as binding, citable precedent. It will now take a State law to mandate covid vaccines in California — districts can’t do it for themselves.
I had no idea that court decisions could be “unpublished”. I learned something today. And have another reason to never move to California. Like I needed one.
-
Now we open the “Suddenly & Unexpectedly” department:
Actor Jansen Panettiere, 28, a child star of the 2000s … suddenly and unexpectedly died AT HOME. After Jansen missed a meeting Sunday morning, his friends went to his house and found him dead, sitting upright in a chair.
/snip
… Cody Longo, 34, who appeared on “Days of Our Lives” and “Nashville,” among others, died suddenly and unexpectedly on February 10th after an unidentified “brief illness.” In other words, he died overnight and was found in bed. … Cody was found dead in his bed in one of the family’s residences in Austin, Texas.
May their souls rest in peace and their loved ones find comfort.

Tedtam
I had never heard of that either. So it’s like, we are going to make this ruling but shhhh, don’t tell no one and you can never use it against us.

Next, Mr. C reports caterwauling among the left because DeSantis reported that Florida has huge wads of cash stuffed under the mattress, hidden in the walls, buried in the backyard…you get the idea. How can this be? How can such an evil state have money? According to Mr. C., their explanation that any tourist state that received federal funding would of course! have figured out how to grow money on trees! Right?
Fox’s story included a laughably ironic sub-headline,…: “Despite California’s high taxes, legislature’s budget analyst expects state tax revenues to drop.” Hahaha, DESPITE the high taxes! It’s so simple! To raise revenues, just increase tax rates!
Basic economics — supply and demand — says if you increase the price of something, demand falls. Taxes increase the price of everything, so people use less everything. Income taxes increase the price of labor. When you raise income taxes, people use less labor. It’s not hard.
Basic Economics 101. But back to the column:
But according to… most democrats in California, the solution is obvious. They just haven’t raised the tax rates high enough! Raise them higher! Right now, California already has the highest top income tax rate of any state at 13.3%. So why not make it 100%? That would REALLY increase tax revenues. That’s science, right there. Don’t be a denier.
/snip
The story is especially ironic considering that Newsom projected a $97.5 billion surplus for this year…. Fox ended its article reporting, “Newsom’s office didn’t immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.”
Yeah, I’d be hiding, too, if my incompetence was so blatant and being made so public.

There’s a long discussion on The War, basically:
Biden has created an environment that has fostered a Chinese-Russian alliance. Not good news. We are now fighting two superpowers.
Biden has sworn to support Ukrained “no matter what it takes”.
Russia has withdrawn from our big nuclear treaty. They, and Iran, are unfettered now in that area.
Israel is considering acting solo against Iran. I don’t blame them. Can’t trust the O’Biden presidencies.
Putin went public with statements about our degenerate society. No countering from our side, because the left can’t argue the truth. This speech was meant to fire up his folks and his friends.
Anyway, Putin enjoys sky-high approval ratings from the Russian people, despite countless failed corporate media predictions about his imminent death, removal from office, or loss of popularity. The proxy war with NATO in Ukraine also enjoys similarly high approval ratings with Russians.
Tucker and I are not the only ones who think Biden is really angling for being remembered for kicking off a world war. President Trump released a short clip yesterday in which he soberly accused the Biden Administration of recklessly dragging the country to the very brink of World War III:
Mr. C. reminds us that we are depending on what they SAY. These are the same folks who lied about Covid, etc.
All we know for sure is: they want us scared. So … don’t be scared. That’s the first, most important step in how we fight back.
I have to keep remembering who wins in the end.
-
Again, back to home turf:
Moving back to domestic news, Tennessee State Representative Bud Hulsey (R) filed HB0726, “Restoring State Sovereignty Through Nullification Act”, which if passed would provide an automatic legislative pathway for Tennessee to nullify (ignore) unconstitutional laws. When the reporter asked Hulsey for an example of a law he would consider nullifying, he immediately cited the OSHA jab mandate.
I wonder if this is legal. I mean, this sidesteps the Supreme Court in defining constitutionality. Mr. C. has the same question. But it is another sign of pushback.
Also yesterday, Tennessee passed a new law criminalizing what it calls “adult cabaret entertainment” — i.e. drag — anywhere it could be seen by children…
/snip
Tennessee House lawmakers voted 77-16 on Thursday, including three democrats joining Republicans, to pass a bill banning “gender-affirming medical care” for children. It now heads for Governor Lee’s desk, and most analysts expect that he will sign it in to law.
Similar bills have advanced in Nebraska, Mississippi, Oklahoma and South Dakota, and in Utah, the Republican governor recently signed a transgender medical ban into law.
Pushback. More resistance to the political insanity.
-
Speaking of pushback, Mr. C. reports that where he lives, and where he fought against TPTB against the mandates, the folks in charge are getting hoisted on their own petards. I leave you to read the substance of the goings-on, but there is this:
This is what I was constantly warning local officials about during the pandemic: someday this thing is going to be over, but people are going to remember what you did here and how you did it. …
And I suspect that, on a thousand committees like this audit committee, people are starting to look hard at the worst pandemic offenders.
If you’re in a state where this hasn’t started to happen yet, be patient! The longer the overreach continues, the stronger the pushback will be. Remember: Florida was a purple state when the pandemic started. And think about previously-blue Virginia. It can happen. Keep focused, work on your voting integrity issues, and stay local, local, local.
We ARE getting there. Maybe not uniformly, but steadily. And you know what they say about moving slowly and steadily and winning races.

The founders of Goya Foods were a couple from Spain who emigrated to NYC. It was only later in their history that they began selling some Mexican items. The Goya product line is focused mainly on Spanish and Latin Caribbean foods rather than the spicier flavors of northern Mexico. The Latino populations in the northeast and Eastern Seaboard are overwhelmingly from Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras and Venezuela whose cuisines are decidedly different from the Mexican dishes people are familiar with in Texas. Much blander, far less spice. There are small pockets of Mexican descendants up here, but they seem to prefer other areas of the US so it is very hard to find things like yellow cornmeal tortillas in these parts.
-
I am so blessed. My 2 daughters are girls.
-
Good morning all. A brisk -35F (-37C) here this morning. More after coffee.
-
The founders of Goya foods love chili w beans. Want proof? Look at how many versions of beans they sell. SO THERE
Mic drop
Read it an weep you heathens.

Good morning to everyone, and Happy Birthday to Katfish!

DEI person goes on a murdering rampage. Police do nothing for several hours after his first killing, then decide to pick him up after he murders a TV news crew, a kid, and others. Then he discovers that he can’t breathe. Sadly, there are no dogs or night sticks in the video. My original question still stands – why was this murdering thug allowed to wander the streets for several hours even after he had already killed once? Pr after his history of violent acts? https://www.independentsentinel.com/graphic-footage-of-the-arrest-of-spree-killer-i-cant-breathe-he-screamed/

Well I see the
O.C. C.C thread is up. -
Who said they weren’t going to ship it? I got my Copano Bay Book today; A Texas Pioneer
FWIW; I ordered this on December 28 and they said it might take 2-4 weeks to ship. Yup and then some.
😉
-
It was 50 degrees when I got up this morning, now down to 48. A little cooler than predicted. Back to warming today. I’ll stay put indoors today I guess, but I did enjoy being outside and doing some stuff yesterday.

#18
Well, Texpat did say the Goya’s were from New York Seety!
-
62 degrees in my driveway at 0608hrs and 72 at the office about 0650hrs.
Happy birfday Whiskerfish
If that feral, disgusting excuse for a human depicted in #20 above actually couldn’t breathe, he wouldn’t be able to scream constantly either. What a putrid bucket of filth and depletion of resources he represents. Cuff his hands and feet then feed him to the alligators.

Learned something else today: when we hooked up the new TV, all of the Roku channels were out of sync, and the audio didn’t match the lip movements of those on screen.
Fortunately, I can surf the ‘net a bit, and found an answer on the Roku forum (it seems the audio out of sync is common, especially with Vizio equipment): Hit the * button, which brings up a settings menu. Turn off “leveling” in the Volume section. Voila! Problem solved.

At least one man isn’t afraid to step up:
Good Samaritan chases down drunken driver after crash that killed Texas cop: ‘You f—ing killed somebody’
The guy was too drunk to even effectively run away. He fell down shortly before the good Samaritan reached him to pin him down for the cops.
RIP, Police Detective Alex Cervantes.

From Dr. Malone’s Friday Funnies:
Just a few. Heh heh heh.

Here’s out good friend Juan Browne at blancolirio reviewing the preliminary NTSB report on the train derail in East Palestine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5D2LA-Llyc

#2 – Well my lap del sol 69 starts tomorrow actually – close enough
THANKS Yall!
-
What the hell do a bunch of Spaniards know about Texas chili, anyway?
-
BSue
Next time you alls make chili I’m coming over there.
I like trying out foreign foods.
-
Happy Birthday Katfish.Make sure to take the slow lane during your next lap around the sun.
-
Shannon – I didn’t know Wick Fowler was a furriner. 😉 if there’s chili here, it’s either from a Wolf Brand can or… Wick’s mix

WITH BEANS

18 squack
That was an impressive jump in your “logic”. Simply because there are many types/flavors of beans in a typical grocery store in no way implies that any one person likes them in chili. I suppose you could try chickpeas (garbanzo beans) in your chili but it would likely be not what you might have hoped.
35 – you need therapy.

I spent an hour doing some trimming and shaping of my ligustrum bushes. They are all gettin’ with the program on new green leaves. I do think they will all be salvageable. And not to mention this is good exercise for me; I can’t point to a single other thing I’ve accomplished up to this point this winter.
-
Found some beef on sale, so it looks like I’ll be doing some canning this evening. I’ve restocked Fred with some veggies.
Gardening may happen tomorrow. We shall see.
-
I have noticed that my mints are all doing well and returning with gusto. Time for some mint tea.

Is the Vice President a member of the Executive Branch or the Legislative Branch of government? It does make a difference. https://instapundit.substack.com/p/mike-pence-dick-cheney-and-the-constitution?sd=pf
-
Happy Birthday Katfish.
You are only as old as you feel. Today is numbers celebrating you. And looking forward to more celebrations. 🙂
-
Greetings from overcrowded east Austin
-
Goya knows nothing about Texas chili. The only beans they are familiar with are black and garbanzo beans. Try ruining a bowl of chili with one of those. Yuck.
-
#41 EG: Very interesting article! As president of the Senate, the VP is definitely part of the Leg. The only authority the VP has is that which POTUS designates, can POTUS legally designate Executive functions to VP? When acting as designee is he Exec Branch or Leg?
Lots of questions.
-
41 El Gordo
When you consider the Vice-President is the president of the Senate and there is always someone serving in that role as president pro tempore in the absence of the Vice-President, there is a strong case to be made that person is indeed a legislative official.
-
It was 40 at dawn this morning, 32 now and the hawk was callin’ all day long. The wind was like a flurry of knives cutting through the body today. I had on 2 shirts, a heavy sweater and a long coat today when I was out and I was still cold.
We’re headed to 20° with 12° windchill and won’t see temperature above freezing until late Sunday morning and then a high about 50°. It’s a late winter roller coaster.
-
Been in the 40s all day out here, but not dropping below 40 tonight either. I did not turn on the lamp in the greenhouse, and I don’t think I need it since the germinating process is well under way out there. Think it’s supposed to warm back up a little bit, but if no sun tomorrow I’ll turn the lamp back on for heat out there.
Looking for something on YT for a while until bedtime. This cool weather makes bedtime want to come a little earlier.
-
No beans in chili is a bull belief. Forget rules.
This guy is supposed to be some kind of chili expert and through his Texas chili explanation he screams no beans no tomatoes and chunk beef only tobe “authentic Texas chili?
The other main ingredient is beef and traditionally, it should be chunks of beef chuck – not ground. However, if you do want to stray slightly from the authenticity of a “Bowl o’ Red”, ground chuck beef would suffice.
Just remember, no beans or tomatoes!
What the hell? No beans no tomato but it is okay to fudge on the beef. You chili prima donnas are full of Chili BEANS.
FULL SPEED AHEAD WITH CHILI AND BEANS AND DAMN THE CHILI SNOBS.
-
Texpat – ain’t trying to make you feel bad but… tomorrow is the HLS&R parade… when it’s normally arctic frigid and wet… and, at this moment, here in the woods it is 7:34 pm and 73 degrees, and dry as a bone… just sayin’ – weird weather this winter
-
stray slightly from the authenticity
he said. and it is not okay to add beans??? PFFFFFFTTTTTTTT
-
That is a Chili (w/ beans) dawg
-
So wick fowlers is supposed to be authentic chili. And i did read where the wickster was anti-bean. Or so he said. Check the bottom of the directions.
you chili snobs ain’t convincing me. I am finding way to much evidence pointing to CHILI W/BEANS is A-OK
-
Chili without beans is just a legend.
-
A quaint myth
-
You can have my chili w/beans when you pry my spoon from my cold dead hands.
-
Oh man, Katfish has kidnapped Shannon and they are in some dive joint in East Austin watching a Larkin Poe concert. I was hoping we don’t need to raise bail money, but then I realized criminals don’t get thrown in jail in Austin anymore.
That was a relief.
Shannon said Katfish bought VIP tickets and the girls were actually letting him and Shannon take selfies with them. The sisters must have been terrified.
I still hope they don’t get arrested for public obnoxiousness.
-
All twelve of my pints sealed tonight. I thought one of them might fail since it siphoned, but…it sealed!
Jars are cooling. Feels good to be canning again.

Just a quick Drive-by as I am plum wore out. FWIW; 72 here in south Alabama after a high of about 82 just like it’s been all week. Today I got my Kubota out and played with the new Lane Shark. What a beast it will chew up the privet hedge like nobody’s business. It was fun to raise it up as high as it would go, (15′ maybe) and lower it until the whole bush was obliterated. The first thing I did was move it to the various positions to see how easy it was to do and when I finished up I couldn’t get it back into the original “Parked” position. I was using gravity to get into the positions but to stow it I had to raise it up and over into the latch and I just ran out of Oomph before I could get i into position. SO! I did something I NEVER do I watched a U Tube video and found out I was “doing it wrong!” After watching the video I couldn’t believe I didn’t think of tilting the lift face plate down so gravity would be my friend no matter which way I was moving the mower.
And yes I hear GJT snickering in the background, but ask me if I care? 😀
-
Texpat, back in the day I always made a trip to the local Sheriff’s Office beforehand and posted bond just in case. 😀
-
Speaking of GJT, some guy on the Kubota page posted a picture of his hydraulic sight gauge and asked what he was supposed to be seeing. Mercy! Any Jr High kid back in my day would know what the problem was and a few did but most didn’t. Remember these are grown Azz men operating heavy equipment.
Beam me up Scotty.
-
OK my #55 is in the Spit Bucket, two links I guess?
-
Thanks Mr Moderator. Oh and I’m happy to see Katfish and Shannon out trying to get into trouble. It will do them both good. 😉
-
Bedtime about here at last. I’ve discovered that it’s a lot easier for me to stay out of trouble than it used to be. Just don’t have the energy to go out looking for it any more. Hope you all have a good evening out there now. More later. Nite nite.
-
The concert is over.
I think I have talked Katfish into going to Antone’s before they close.
-
All quiet here on the western front.
