Say, don’t you live 30 miles outside of town? I’m currently not able to accept any gourmet meal events that are more than about 40 steps from my front door.
But thanks for thinking of me!
We think more in hours rather than miles out here. 😀
We think more in hours rather than miles out here.
Spoken like a true Texan. Well I guess I’m late but GJT is taking up the slack. 45 here and heading the the high 50’s, high in the low 60’s tomorrow and THEN Thursday night Boom! We’ll have a bust the bark cold, 24 Friday morning, high 32 WITH 30 MPH wind gusts out of the north!!! Mercy! Texanadian, check your lower 40, 4 strand barbed wire fence. I think it’s down because your weather is out and heading this way.

“Governor Abbott and the Texas legislature sent a clear message that Texas is not willing to sell out the Second Amendment rights of her citizens. Governor Abbott recognizes it is wrong to compel freedom-loving Texans to fund corporate gun control,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “This is what bold and decisive leadership looks like. This is what it means to put principle before profit and what it means to put an end to corporate boardroom activism that openly discriminates against the firearm industry. The National Shooting Sports Foundation is grateful for Texas leading the way on this model legislation to protect our rights and end corporate discrimination against lawful businesses.”
The new law requires corporations seeking to do business with the state and local government to certify that they hold no policies that discriminate against firearms or ammunition companies and will not implement any such policies while the contracts are in force. The law ensures that taxpayer-funded contracts aren’t used to benefit policies that discriminate and deny services to firearm and ammunition-related businesses. Texas taxpayers won’t be burdened with funding discriminatory policies that undermine their rights and throttle the businesses that provide the means to exercise those rights.
Carlos Correa/SF Giants deal falls through and now he’s going to the Mets.

The Giants postponed a news conference Tuesday to introduce Correa after a medical concern arose during his physical, according to two people with direct knowledge of the situation.
He has been injury prone.
Good morning Hamsters
#5 Super Dave,
Texas is not a sleeping giant sprawling in the sun, thank heavens. It is very much awake in looking out for its citizens and visitors. The 2nd Amendment is actively observed here.
Remember Croquet? We had a set just like these. We would sometimes play on Sundays when the cousins came over. We had great times with our cousins, especially when uncle Horace N Aunt Mattie came over, they had 4 boys and 1 girl. A ready made ball team.
I was really disappointed to see Rubio on the yes list to neuter the incoming R House majority. The R leadership is a bunch of backstabbing traitors, and I use the word traitor in the literal sense – they consistently give aid and comfort to the enemy (the commie Ds) in a time of fiscal war. We need a new party that actually does not find its worth in how badly they can screw their constituents.
When I look at the Clinton, Obama, and now Biden administrations, I wonder how they could have been more destructive to the USA if they had been actively trying and I conclude that they could not. Boooosh43 was bad, just not as bad. Trump was a breath of fresh air, but he was actively opposed by his own party, including his own VP. The overwhelming majority of politicians and permanent beaurocrat employees are slime better suited as shark bait or lamp post decorations. A POX ON ALL THEIR HOUSES!
Morning, Gang… Sorry for the late arrival but my computer wanted to do updates when I turned it on, and I was afraid to delay it for fear the inter webs would freeze before I got a chance to do it later 😉
G’morning, all! Salvete omnes!
It’s good to be vertical, amen. The alternative is not an option I want to explore. GETTING vertical is a challenge. I missed my middle-night pill schedule, so I was afraid I was a little behind in the pain management department, but I seem to be doing okay. I think I’m going to start spacing the pain pills a little further apart, since I seem to be recovering nicely. I can walk without my walker, if need be, but I don’t make a habit of it, and I do grab onto things to stabilize me while walking. I really don’t want to fall down. /shudder/
Sleeping in my bed is more painful than walking around with the back brace rubbing on my stitches. I have to “logroll” my position changes, keeping my torso aligned as I go from one position to another. It’s painful to do in bed. My left leg is really not happy with me, and I have to favor it. I’m hoping it catches up with my right leg at some point. My follow-up appointment is on the 29th, I believe. If it’s still causing me misery, I’m definitely talking to the doctor about it. As I’ve said before – my left side has always been my “problem side” so it’s quite possible that the doc had to do some extra cleanup on that aisle. We shall see.
Right now, the bag monster is clawing at my eyelids, so I’m going to lay down on the couch and take my medically induced nap.
Hubby has installed my new toilet seat and bed rails. I’m excited about the higher toilet seat, since getting up and down has been a challenge for me. I am also now carrying around my dust mop to use in the bathroom and bedroom. It’s easier and way less painful for me to put the handle between my knees and pull up to rise into walking position than using the walker arms. The bed rails will help me get into “rising up” position.
Anyway, I’m off to nap now. Y’all have a very blessed day, and I hope y’all get a chance to enjoy the sunshine before the temps get really cold.

I was really disappointed to see Rubio on the yes list to neuter the incoming R House majority.
I’m surprised a member of the Senate would get involved in the leadership fight in the House. How exactly did this happen ? What did Rubio say ?
Texpat
It was a technical Senate vote to allow a speedier overall budget approval process.
Some of the House R’s were trying to stall and run out the clock (and force another short term continuing resolution) so that the next Republican-lead Congress could continue the fight.
At this point what Rubio says is irrelevant. How the POS VOTES is what is important. Most of them are nothing but shark bait to me now.
Morning gang. Got up late this morning and been doing a few things prior to the arrival of the Christmas winter storm of 2022. Went to coffee, got a haircut, and made breakfast so far today. Now that I’ve had my haircut I can go take a shower, wash all the clippings off, get a fresh set of clothes on, and get ready for the storm. My outdoor plants are fading as the temps have gotten cooler, but I expect the extremely low temps on the way will finish them off for the winter season. I considered cutting them back, but I think I will wait until they are completely dormant and dead looking. I’ve got my bird feeder and my cat/possum/fox cat food at the ready, so they should not go hungry. I thought about filling my water trough to the top, but it’s all going to freeze anyway, so think I’ll wait and put fresh water on top after this is over to help it melt. Hope that it does not split my tub wide open, or even a little bit. Batteries are all charged, gasoline tank is full and a little extra on hand in containers, plenty of propane, plenty of coffee – think I’m about ready.
You all have a great day, and more later as it develops.
The release of the legislation was delayed Monday in part by a prolonged tussle over language related to the location of the FBI’s future headquarters.
Maryland lawmakers have argued that ensuring predominately Black communities get their fair share of federal investments should be a bigger consideration in the selection process. They are advocating for building the headquarters at one of two sites in Maryland’s Prince George’s County, a majority Black county.
Virginia is also competing for the headquarters.
How convenient. They’re going to move the FIB. I wonder how much incriminating evidence of FIB corruption will get lost in the shuffle?

Here is the Immaculate Reception when Franco was 22 years old.

It’s just more federal government waste as far as I’m concerned, but I would like a clause in the deal that says they hire a demolition contractor to take down the old headquarters building, the ugliest building in DC. It seems to appear in every article about ugly government architecture.
Mitch wanted a budget passed so he doesn’t have to work so hard when he comes back from Christmas break.
In 22 games played, Franco Harris averaged 68 rushing yards/game against the Houston Oilers.
Harris was supposed to be at the Steelers game this week for a half-time ceremony to retire his #32 jersey. Those Steeler/Oiler games were some of the best football ever.
Just like I always rooted for the Aggies unless they played UT, I always wanted Pittsburgh to win unless they played Houston. They were my second favorite team.

Re: Immaculate Reception
That hit Tatum put on Fuqua was epic. Franco and the Steelers got a gift right there I tell you whut
I know exactly how this happens. I spent many years in importing and exporting.
Despite strict export controls in place to prevent Iran from obtaining such materials, evidence has emerged that Tehran is finding more than enough commercially-available tech – including US-made microelectronics – to manufacture the drones.
UK-based investigative organization Conflict Armament Research found last month that, upon examining drones downed in Ukraine, 82 percent of their components were made by companies in the United States.
In response, the White House has now launched an ‘all hands on deck’ task force involving agencies from across Washington – including the departments of Defense, State, Justice, Commerce and Treasury – according to sources cited by CNN.
plus,
Processors built by Dallas-based technology company Texas Instruments as well as an engine made by Austrian firm owned by Canada’s Bombardier Recreational Products were among the components found in the drones, investigations found.
Both companies have released statements condemning the use of their components in the drones. Texas Instruments told CNN that it is ‘not selling any products into Russia, Belarus or Iran,’ and that it ‘complies with applicable laws and regulations in the countries where we operate, and partners with law enforcement organizations as necessary and appropriate.’

Jack Tatum was a scary player, but I didn’t know his later years were so plagued with illness.
Tatum eventually faced his own disability challenges, as all five toes on his left foot were amputated in 2003 due to a staph infection caused by diabetes. He soon lost the entire leg below the knee because of the illness. He also suffered from an arterial blockage that cost him his right leg; he used a prosthetic limb thereafter. Tatum worked on increasing awareness of diabetes. To facilitate this goal, he created the Ohio-based Jack Tatum Fund for Youthful Diabetes, which finances diabetes research. His kidneys started to fail in his final years, and he was awaiting a kidney transplant at the time of his death.
RE: My comment at 11:33 AM
There are a hundred different ways to legally purchase and then illegally smuggle components out of America. Domestic manufacturers and suppliers often get blamed, but it’s very hard to always tell which one of your customers are criminals. The Iranians are certainly throwing around lots of money to get these things done.
I recently recounted here our experience with an Austrian company years ago who lied to us, forged shipping documents and then shipped our tools to Muammar Gaddafi’s oilfields.

Morning, gang.
Woops, I typed the above an hour ago but neglected to enter it…
My bad.
This is one crazy, tragic story.
A horrifying video shows Austin tech entrepreneur Rajan ‘Raj’ Moonesinghe being shot dead by local police as he inspected the perimeter of his home for an intruder with a rifle in his hands.
Moonesinghe, 33, a successful tech entrepreneur who had moved to the area about five years ago, was killed on the front porch of his home in a wealthy South Austin neighborhood on November 15. As he lay dying, he said the words: ‘It wasn’t me.’
At around 12.30am, Moonesinghe told a neighbor that someone was in his house and he was going to call 911, the WSJ reported.
Police arrived on the scene just five minutes later, moments after Moonesinghe fired two shots into his own living room – and fired the four shots that killed the businessman.
I can’t defend the Austin cops because there’s not enough information here. However, if you want to get shot by law enforcement in the middle of the night on your own property, do exactly as this young man did. His family is understandably distraught and all the sanctimonious locals are pontificating about the cops, but you don’t call 911, walk around your yard with a rifle in the dark and start shooting into your own home without expecting to be possibly mistaken for a bad guy and killed by the police.
We just watched the strangest dang docuseries on Netflix last night, I don’t remember ever hearing about it, maybe others do. Called “Don’t pickup the phone”, a guy acting as a police officer calls a fast food joint, somehow talks a manager to bring an employee in to strip search them to look for stolen money – all the way naked! And on the security camera! And many, many go along with it! Happened all across the country from mid 90’s to mid 00’s (I believe), in McDonalds, Taco Bells and many more.
It was on when we were doing other stuff so not sure if the suspect they believed did it was ever charged or convicted. Or why he did it.
Katfish, if you’re lurking, Santa brought me a nice gift from that old Scrounger Guy, well he dropped it off at Farm Systems and I picked it up. Very Nice Indeed.

Does it strike anyone besides me the how crazy it looks that Argentina is suffering 70%, soon to be 100% inflation but yet is celebrating like it is 1999 because they won the world cup. Surreal
Argentina’s triumph comes amid political turmoil and a battered economy. Inflation is expected to reach 100 per cent in the year to December. Poverty is high and inching higher. The local peso has collapsed against the US dollar on the widely used black market exchange rate, shattering people’s purchasing power.
BREAD AND CIRCUSES
TexMo, they Putin’ any bacon n eggs or ribeyes in those tubes? How about beer? Tip well, maybe…..
As the sun is getting lower, it’s starting to cool down again out here. I took some more cabbage soup out to thaw, but it’s still frozen solid, so I decided to have an afternoon cup of hot coffee instead. I got a new cutting/crimping device that allows for putting the ends on ethernet cables. It came with a few sample end clips, a continuity tester (no battery), and some other starter kit type stuff. So, with the help of a YT video, I was able to repair one of my ethernet cables and replace a broken clip. It does take some extra good eyes and a delicate touch, but I think with some practice, I could get pretty handy with that thing. My internet network, according to the speed tests that I’ve run in each area of the house, is excellent, so I’ve got no excuse for even considering doing any wired connections, but that though keeps crossing my mind anyway. I’ll probably be long gone before my current system becomes completely obsolete, but it still keeps me curious to stay on top of the latest and greatest. If I should decide to upgrade to level 6, I will have to install one or two cables to handle the backhaul, but my equipment would never rise to the levels required just to utilize all that speed.
And let’s don’t forget, my internet input seems to also serve as a lightening rod to attract strikes. It’s been hit and destroyed twice since I’ve been out here, both times on the internet side and not on the electrical side. Anything attached by wire such as my security camera system, was also blown up, while none of the wirelessly connected devices were harmed. Speaks in favor of avoiding wired connections in the first place.
OK, I’m gonna go watch a movie or something for a while and do dinner in an hour or so.
Some reports say Carlos Correa was dressed and set up for the press conference announcing his new deal with the SF Giants before the deal got nixed. No one is saying what the medical concerns were or if the Giants just got cold feet.
Still a bit of aftermath with my aunt’s accounts, who passed away last November. Plains Capital Bank in Lubbock spent $7.82 to send us a 21 cent check. Hopefully it’s really closed out now lol.
#33 – I say frame that check and hang it on the wall! (aka bank customer’s REVENGE) 😉
Got enough soup thawed out to put it in the microwave. I started watching Apocalypse Now. Didn’t realize that it’s a 3 hour movie. I might have watched it before, but I was probably drunk or something because I don’t remember much of it, if any. No college football until 8 tonight though, so I’ll have time to finish it most likely. Yes TexMo, I decided that if I was going to get another haircut this year, I’d better do it today before it freezes. I just cannot stand hair tickling my ears. And who knows, there’s still a chance of a last minute dinner invite for Christmas.

I’ve spent time in Argentina, had an Argentine partner (a loveable crook) and I have to tell you it’s been “Bread and Circuses” there ever since Eva and Juan Peron utterly destroyed one of the richest nations on earth after WWII. The history of Argentina will break your heart. The people are smart, well educated (and the women are shockingly beautiful) but have been betrayed by their leadership for 70 years or more. It is one of the most productive countries in the world given its vast agricultural lands. They could feed at least half the world. When WWII ended, Argentina was the wealthiest nation in the Western Hemisphere with no debt.
The political philosophy of Argentine politicians is keep prime beef, superb vegetables, fresh breads, exquisite wines and utilities dirt cheap and the masses won’t storm the Palace and murder us all as we steal every ounce of gold from the Treasury. So far, it has worked.
Good Evening Hamsters,
The weather folk are serious about preparing us for the wild temp drop tomorrow afternoon. Mother Nature does stuff like this on occasion, but this is a rather inconvenient time for it. It does show that Mother Nature will not be denied, so we must work around it.
Spouse got all the potted plants into the garage with help from our handymen yesterday. The garage was amazingly much warmer than the outside temp with wind this afternoon. The insulation on the single garage door edges must be in really good shape after all these years of no regular use.
We built a 3-car garage that is physically attached to the house, but since there is no direct entrance from the garage to the house it is regarded as a detached garage by the county. The people-garage door opens on the back porch, and the house door opens on the porch only a few feet away, but since the back porch is now covered it seems to us that the garage should be regarded as attached. It is a tempest in a teapot as far as we’re concerned, but realtors and tax assessors would seem to be the only folks interested in that detail. Go figure.
Texpat @7:18
Yeah I know. It just struck me just how true “bread and circuses” really is. I suppose in those conditions any reason to celebrate, forget your troubles and find some national pride for a moment is important.
Her Highness had Fox News on and I listened to this Zelensky speech while I was eating. I couldn’t believe it. The US senators and congressmen were jumping up and down like Jack-in-Boxes for standing ovations for every other line this guy had. You would have thought Thomas Jefferson returned from the dead to show up there.
WTH ?
These stupid sumbitches will have us in WWIII before it’s over.
Well, I got a invitation today from 40-y.o. neighbor — who is an EXCELLENT cook — to lunch with her on Sunday. By then I had already accepted 80-y.o.’s invitation, and hoped 40 would also go to his event. But she was out of sync and hadn’t yet seen his email inviting her, me, and 3 other people to his meal. I hope she has other folks who will come to her meal. I guess the take-home message is don’t wait any longer than necessary to invite guests to the most popular event of the year.
These stupid sumbitches will have us in WWIII before it’s over.
these stupid sumbitches have already destroyed the greatest nation ever born so what’s starting ww3 to them?

Awww man don’t worry about it. Mitch the Itch is on the job.
The very first night of my first trip to Argentina I was in my hotel room on Avenida Florida in downtown Buenos Aires. I was getting ready to go out and have dinner when the phone rang. It was my Argentine partner, Ruben, who was staying at his parents’ home in the northern section of the city.
Ruben said, “Hey, if you hear a lot of artillery and cannon fire tonight, don’t be alarmed. There’s an admiral of the Argentine Navy anchored in the Port of BA and they say he’s going to mount a coup d’etat tonight to overtake the government, but there’s no chance of him succeeding.”
Okay, it’s not a problem. I did have my taxi driver drive straight past the American embassy before we circled back to my restaurant so I could figure out how to walk there if I needed to. Every time I’ve traveled overseas I also make note of where the Canadian embassy or consul is located because they come in very handy if the Americans have already bailed out or decide they can’t help you.
Brother Phil
If ever I had one picture that illustrates Washington DC this izzit.
Don’t forget the bravery of the Canadian Embassy personnel in 1979 Tehran when they sheltered and concealed Americans during the Iranian hostage ordeal.
#40 – I saw nothing abut him being an innocent man. I saw proprietorial misconduct on one of 6 convictions. Maybe it is poorly written, but that still leaves him with 5 convictions I think. If that is not correct, then I stand corrected.
El Gordo
He was exonerated on all 6 murders.
The DA’s office later said in court that the case against him was ‘built on a house of cards,’ involving incorrect informant testimony, extensive undisclosed evidence, and forensic evidence that directly contradicted an informant’s story.
Besides……… MURDER is not a solution to any problem be it a criminal , liberal judge, liberal lawyer or whatever.
There may be conflicting stories out there. Every time I click on that link it seem to come up different. Anyway, the point of my story is that if the liberal prosecutors and judges don’t stop putting these guys back on the streets, the people will eventually take matters in to their own hands – and yes, when the people do react, so innocents will be murdered along the way. As I previously noted, the way I read the story is that the guy was convicted for 6 murders, not necessarily all the same event or at the same time. The last conviction was overturned, so he was released, despite 5 other murder convictions. As I said, the article is poorly written. And it never said that he was not guilty, merely that the prosecution phoneyed up its case. When the judicial system breaks down, mayhem will follow.
Oh, and nite all. More tomorrow.

I do not know what you are reading. My link is long nd you have to read through the extraneous crap.
Never in the history of the Pennsylvania judicial system has someone been charged with six murders, acquitted of two and now exonerated of four,’ Williams said upon his release.
and that comment can be found in 4 separate reporting publications. Google is your firend.
Squawk & EG
I read this the story out of Philadelphia about the murder of this man this morning. He was getting out of his car, in broad daylight, on the street to attend a well publicized funeral of a friend with whom he had been in prison. A car drove up, stopped and an occupant shot this guy once in the head and left.
I don’t know anything else, but that damn sure seems to describe a hit to me. It would be my working theory until I had other evidence to change my mind.
The murder victim in Philly should never have spent a day in prison on the charges for which he was wrongly convicted. The DA’s office there seems to have been perpetually corrupt for generations.
Now, I don’t know anything about the man, but concealing exculpatory evidence, knowingly allowing testimony from lying witnesses and informants should be enough to put the whole DA’s office in prison.
Having said all that, the man may have been a thug and scoundrel guilty of all kinds of crimes – but not the ones of which he was accused and wrongfully convicted.
If the cops and the DA can’t charge and convict him on the merits, then he gets to walk, period.
