41 degrees this morning and I’m off to chase Bambi. BTW; It was 38 when I went to bed and 41 now but we have rain moving in this afternoon.

In a grueling defensive battle where no touchdowns were scored, Madisonville upset Bellville 9-3 last night.
Earlier in the day, the Bellville Brahmanettes girls volleyball team lost to Aubrey in a 5-set thriller at the 4A State Semifinals.
Tough day for Brahma Nation.

Crisis averted – it was only the mouse batteries.

Wow. Just wow.
Do not miss this monologue – three profound minutes.
There may be hope for Hollywood yet.
A leaked scene from the new film “Tár” went viral on social media Thursday, largely as a result of the inherently anti-woke scripting from Todd Field.
The scene shows leading lady Cate Blanchett’s character sitting at a piano with a young musician, seemingly in front of a class of students, as he completely misses whatever point she is trying to make about the power of music (or so one can assume without the full context of the storyline).
“Nowadays, white, male, cis composers, just not my thing,” the young student says to her of Bach, one of the greatest and most famed composers of all time.
“Don’t be so eager to be offended,” Blanchett’s character says back — not in a cruel or aggressive way, but seemingly as a way of pushing the young student to expand his mindset to accommodate Bach. “The narcissism of small differences leads to the most boring conformity.”
As the scene goes on, the script calls out the hypocrisy and history of music as it relates to the modern woke cultural movement. “If Bach’s talent can be reduced to his gender, birth country, religion, sexuality and so on, then so can yours,” Blanchett continues.

RE: My #8
I don’t know anything about Todd Field, but he seems to be a serious filmmaker, director and screenwriter. Here is his Wikipedia biography. Born on a poultry farm, batboy for single A farm team, bubble gum inventor, community college…seems like a normal American guy.

Good wet morning, Hamsters
Rain thus far since midnight is half an inch and shows no sign of letting up. It is 46 so far and likely not to get much farther today. A typical bleak and gloomy winter day proceeds. However, that is not necessarily the case for all creatures great and small.
Three does are laying down in the side pasture near our back yard fence. They are nibbling on the grass within reach at the moment. On the backyard side of the fence is a buck trying to be noticed. Thus far it is apparently no sale.

It seems to me an 11.25 year prison sentence is pretty light for stealing a billion dollars from investors.
U.S. District Judge Edward Davila sentenced former Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes to 11.25 years in prison Friday for fraud-related offenses, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Holmes was convicted in January of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and three counts of wire fraud against Theranos investors, the outlet reported. The prosecution had wanted a 15-year prison sentence with three years of supervised release and restitution totaling over $800 million, while Holmes requested being sentenced to home confinement and community service, and no more than 18 months in prison.

Just in case Gordo woke up at 4am and ate the entire buttermilk pie and subsequently fell into a deep glucose overdose sleep, here is this week’s WIP.

You can’t fix stupid. The chronically leftist American Bar Association is hellbent on further destroying the standards and reputation of the legal profession.
The accrediting council for the American Bar Association (ABA) voted 15-1 to no longer require the administering of the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) for law school applications, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Starting in 2025, the ABA will no longer mandate that law schools require a “valid and reliable admission test” as a part of its application process, after feedback from a public comment period suggested that dropping the testing requirement would increase diversity, according to WSJ. Law schools may still require the test as a part of its admissions process, but the LSAT will no longer be required for accreditation.
The Clinical Legal Education Association, a group focused on promoting justice and diversity within the legal foundation, argued that dropping the LSAT requirement would allow law schools to individually address “the persistent lack of racial diversity” within their institutions, according to the WSJ.
If you don’t need the LSAT, why do you need bar exams or, frankly, the bar association itself ?

41% of climate scientists don’t believe in catastrophic ‘climate change,’ major new poll finds
For years, the promoters of the spurious “settled science” narrative have claimed that there is a 97-99% consensus among scientists about humans causing climate change. The claim is meaningless since it fails to address differences in the extent of human involvement and how harmful the warming is thought to be.
A recently published survey of top-level climate scientists found that just over five in 10 attributed the human contribution to recent climate change to be 75% or above. Only around four in 10 scientists believed that the frequency and severity of extreme weather events had increased significantly in recent years.
and,
Emeritus Professor Richard Lindzen recently called the current climate narrative “absurd.” Perhaps, he added, it was the trillions of dollars diverted to green projects and the relentless propaganda from grant-dependent academics and agenda-driven journalists that had persuaded people it is not absurd.
There is a vast amount of money pouring into academia designed to support the hypothesis of anthropogenic climate change. The hope is to shore up the invented 99% ‘consensus’ backed up by helpful, unquestioning media commentators.

In the WIP, I admit I didn’t notice the Godzilla either.

In the infamous words of Forrest Gump…“Stupid is as stupid does…” When I first became a nurse, and even at the paramedic level, one had to take “the boards” at each renewal period… Eventually both began to just require submission of proof of continuing education… but I believe both still require “state boards” for initial licensure…
-
No more LSAT for law school accreditation huh? Next up no more MCAT for med school accreditation. Of course we’ve all seen the videos of recent med school graduates reciting some woke diversity and inclusion drivel in addition to the Hippocratic Oath.
-
Good moring gang. Got up late this morning and had to rush out to coffee so as to not miss anything. Thanks to TexMo for posting the WIP. The buttermilk pie survived the night safely cooling in the refrig. I might try to do another one today, or I might try to make one of my planned dump cakes with cream cheese. I’ll be checking the football schedule here shortly too. I have a TV in the kitchen, and I was planning to use it to watch YT videos as I prepare certain desserts, but I might have to watch some football instead unless I get started shortly.
Currently 37 degrees headed for a high of 30. No signs of any significant precip overnight, but it is overcast and still pretty good chance today. You all have a great day out there, and more later as it develops.

It didn’t take the Republicans in the Senate long after election day to start screwing over their constituents. Led of course by assistant head snake Cornholio. https://thelibertydaily.com/why-are-four-republican-senators-leading-talks-with-illegal-aliens-to-sneak-amnesty-through-in-lame-duck-session/ A pox on all of them.

In the WIP, I admit I didn’t notice the Godzilla either.
What Gidzilla? 😀
Well you PETA folks can rest assured that Bambi is safely romping around in the woods. Didn’t see him anywhere, not even when I walked the Bear Creak Trail, back up by the pond, up to the farm house and across the road to behind the barn, walking the fence line all the way to Garcia’s corner and coming back out the little pasture across from the house. But I had a great time and it wasn’t all that cold. Oh and my new watch dog is useless. 😉

I’ll never be able to load my DeWalt impact driver the same way again.

Super Dave
Just so yanno I am always looking out for my future partner in providing fine country dining to the starving masses. (Hope springs eternal). Anyway when the SHTF happens and BidenCo takes away all our gas, I just cannot see you driving an electric tractor. So through extensive research I done found you plans for a steam engine tractor. Now ya could prolly find one already made but I figure these things will become a hot commodity.
Now ya gonna need a pretty sizable influx of cash to build so I figure now is a good time to negotiate and get moving on our conquest of the culinary world. Your place or mine just name the time.

Yesterday we decided to go to the local Hole-in-the-Wall joint for supper and wife said “lets take the Vette.” So while she was taking Dawg to get her nails did I got the Vette out and hit the shower. When she got back I suggested that since we had the mean machine out we may as well run up to Troy for supper. As we were loading up my wife asked if I was driving and I told her it’s your automobile but she did let me drive back and since the State Troopers run that stretch of 213 all the time I didn’t get too carried away but dang that thing will go! So much fun to drive.

With all this talk about Corvettes I asked my lovely BSue if I could purchase one. She told me I could have this one if I could fit my butt into it.

Second buttermilk pie is just coming out of the oven, and just like last night’s, it looks beautiful. I’ll let it cool for a couple hours and then put it away in refrig. I moved the other one from the refrig to the freezer. So far I’ve avoided temptation despite the wonderful smells. We are getting light precip out here, but it’s still a few degrees above freezing, so no ice. May snow later, but probably not.

First test burn in the new stove is under way. There was still some assembly required before I could start. Most of that involved attaching handles.
I also had to insert a temperature probe into the back of the stove to measure the catalyst temperature. Once the stove is hot enough, you close the main damper which forces the exhaust gasses across the catalyst.
Earlier this week I told Bonecrusher the catalyst constituted the tertiary burn. I was mistaken. It is actually the secondary burn which occurs between 500F and 600F. This is about half the temperature required if you didn’t have a catalyst.
Fortunately the stove is drafting nicely and smoke doesn’t billow out of the front doors when you open it to load more wood.

Oh wow I overslept this morning. Didn’t like the looks of what I saw (weather-wise) once I was up. The small local flock of pigeons was getting rained on as it tried to peck up every corn kernel left from last night on the patio feeding area. I got fresh “wild mix” out under the breezeway as fast as I could. It’s rare that I put out food for my yard friends before the 7 puds indoors get served.
EG’s #19 makes me sick. Maybe we need to put out a hit on Cornyn, may be the only way we can get rid of him.
-
The only buttermilk pie I ever had growing up was from the recipe of my great-grandmother in Brownwood.
Years later, when I was in my mid-20s I held an estate auction on a ranch outside of Hamilton, Texas, up there between Comanche and Gatesville. Hamilton really does feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. It was about this time of year and we were outside selling off equipment, even the big windmill, with icicles hanging off the brims of our hats. We finished up the sale and made it into town to the big cafe when the Sheriff and DPS shut down every road out of town. It was a sleet and ice storm like I had never seen and the sky went black by 4 o’clock.
My crew and I, with the cafe employees, ended up staying overnight there and sleeping in the booths because nobody could leave. The one thing they did have was a whole case of buttermilk pies that tasted exactly like my great-grandmother Sadie’s. Back in those days, I could eat a whole pie and lose 3 pounds. I’ve always figured those buttermilk pies were a regional tradition in north central Texas.

Phil gave me a YO, guess I’m not one of the losers now!
But… Year of the Cat sounded promising, but I didn’t understand it at all. It didn’t seem to be the right sort of cat, ya know?
Oops, make that hosers, not losers. (What is a hoser, anyway?)

Hoser doesn’t equate to a loser.
me and my buds called each other hosers frequently back in our wilder days.

‘Hoser’ – usually a Cannuck term of endearment/ mild friendly insult

It seems Bankman-Fried’s level of hubris is off the scale, however, it is a character trait exhibited by millennials that I do not care for at all. Even in my industry, these young 20 somethings want more responsibility and they want to be a lead engineer. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a go getter and seeking more responsibility. The problem comes in when they do not recognize they are in essence dumber than a hammer. Sure they may have graduated with an engineering degree. However, it takes years of working under a senior engineer to gain experience and knowledge that is required to successfully lead a project and ensure technical accuracy.
This Bankman-Fried may have been raised by Stanford professors and attended MIT, but he is still as dumb as a hammer when it comes to properly running a company.
Mr. Bankman-Fried’s companies had neither accounting nor functioning human-resources departments, according to a filing in federal court by the executive brought in to shepherd FTX through bankruptcy. Corporate money was used to buy real estate, but records weren’t kept. There wasn’t even a roster of employees, to say nothing of the terms of their employment. Bankruptcy filings say one entity’s outstanding loans include at least $1 billion to Mr. Bankman-Fried personally and $543 million to a top lieutenant.

We never had buttermilk pie growing up – Mama and Aunt Lora always made chess pies… until they started selling decent buttermilk pies at the local grocery chain (M-System)… then we’d get store-bought pies between holidays, occasionally… for holidays, Mama still made real chess pies
-
“Hoser’ – usually a Cannuck term of endearment/ mild friendly insult
yup.
I guess mh42 has never seen the movie Strange Brew circa 1983. -
Three gallons of peanut oil costs over $46??????????????
Fried Turkey is even more overrated than I originally thought.
-
I really don’t need to be looking at recipes of things I shouldn’t be eating, these pie recipes remind me of the long past, wonderful women of my family and warm memories.
I didn’t realize the secret ingredient of chess pie is vinegar.
Southern Living Magazine:
Buttermilk vs. Chess Pie
While some confuse buttermilk pie with chess pie and custard pie, each has a distinct personality, and this buttermilk pie recipe proves it. Chess pie typically includes either vinegar or cornmeal in the filling, often both, while custard pie skips the buttermilk altogether and often opts for a dash of nutmeg. In contrast, buttermilk pie gets its signature tangy flavor from buttermilk, a splash of lemon juice, and a hint of vanilla.
What Does Buttermilk Pie Taste Like?
Sweet and slightly tangy, buttermilk pie is loved for its simplicity. The filling has a creamy and smooth texture, comparable to crème brûlée. The combination of flaky pie crust with rich, custardy filling is an instant winner. Lemon zest and vanilla extract make up the predominant flavors.
-
Texpat – thanx for the chess pie recipe… I asked Mama for her mother’s chess pie recipe, so she took the card to the library and xerox’ed it… said something like “5 eggs, sugar, cornmeal, vinegar” and snail mailed it to me in Germany LOL… blessedly, she also included a copy of a REAL recipe that she said was pretty close to Nannie’s – but I didn’t have enough eggs LOL
-
Gays Against Groomers works to expose the rampant pedophilia within the trans community. They actively speak out on Twitter and bring to light the tranny story book hour at the local library or the drag shows at the local coffee shop or restaurant.
This is an important group because it is run by gay people who feel their their position is being overrun by the tranny movement and the gender affirming sexual mutilation of minors. These are people that want the LGBT acronym to revert back to simply LGB.
Gays Against Groomers has been demonetized by PayPal and Venmo.
-
Just looked in Mama’s recipe box (after printing out the one Texpat shared) and there IS a recipe card in there that has my Nannie’s name’s Chess Pie recipe – and it’s almost identical to the one Texpat shared 😉 And I realized that the reason Nannie made them so often (and I never have) was because she had egg-layin’ chickens LOL

Three gallons of peanut oil costs over $46??????????????
Not long ago it was about $25 bucks for 3 Gallons but I saw 3 Gallons of Lou Ann P Nut oil for $48 bucks at Sams! Remember they will be the cheapest and that was exactly when I decided I ddin’t want to fry a turkey this year. FWIW; It’s been a while since I fried on so I was planning on it. Also I first fried one about 20 years ago and the boy said now you can’t go back and I didn’t for many years.
Fried Turkey is even more overrated than I originally thought.
I’ll beg to differ on that one though there is NOTHING like a pumped up fried turkey.
-
My #47 Every year I’d buy 6-8 fryers and fry them 4 at time to save on the oil. When daughter was in college, Id’ send her off with several frozen ones.
-
Getting a little ice out there in the precip, but the ambient temp remains above freezing, so nothing is sticking. More later of the chess pie versus buttermilk pie, but I’ve got to get back to football right now.
-
I just came back from Lowe’s and they had a big display of turkey frying items near the entry. Three gallon jug of peanut oil was $44.96.
Back in the mid 1980s, a friend of mine and I talked to some coonasses who told us how to fry turkeys. No one we knew had ever done it before although we had heard of guys over Louisiana doing it. It was this same weekend before Thanksgiving and the small bar on Jones Road we used to hang out in was attached to and owned by the same couple who owned the large family restaurant next door. They let us come into the kitchen and use their equipment early one morning to deep fry two large turkeys (25 lb +). They came out very good for a couple of novice chefs. We sliced them up, put the turkey on platters with plates and utensils in the bar and gave it away to the customers who had never eaten it before. There was none left after a few hours.
After a few rounds of fried turkey, I got tired of it and went back to cooking birds in an oven with Fay’s wonderful brining recipe and never looked back.
-
We went to lunch at BJ’s in Sugar Land. Driving through the cold rain/mist under a murky sky was something we have not done in months. Temp made it to 46 around noontime but slid to 44 now. This rain is supposed to end sometime tomorrow in the wee hours, but do no bet on that. We almost forgot the car has heated seats and activated them a mile or so out from home. That was a nice feature to use today. We probably should dig out the manual and find what other features we’ve forgotten it has.
-
I’ll never be able to not do fried turkey for Thanksgiving, youngest son and wife demand it. Luckily I strained last years oil and have it in the garage fridge. I’ll get another gallon to make sure I have enough to do two.
Sweetie does buttermilk pie all the time, we will have to try chess pie – she has heard of it but never had it, don’t think I ever have.
-
I was given a turkey brine recipe way back in the early 80’s that gives a smoke flavor. My BIL used it for chickens in BBQ cookers contests and placed well all the time. I have no idea now what was in it, I’ll have to get it from him.
-
I got my baking done for the day. In addition to the second buttermilk pie, I fixed a cherry cream cheese sort of dump cake/cobbler that I got off some gay guy doing a You Tube video. Looks and smells pretty good, but I’ll let it cool, refrig it, and then freeze it for next week. I haven’t done any real cooking in quite a while, and it was kind of fun on a dreary day to make a big mess in the kitchen and heat it up with the oven. Things are pretty well washed out now and set out to dry. I keep thinking that just one bite of the cherry cobbler thing would not hurt, but I know better. So I’ll just have to wait for the guests next week to let me know. Probably will do an apple dump cake before this is all over. Can’t seem to find any peaches except those canned things, and I don’t think they would work very well.
-
-
I haven’t been to Five Guys & Fries since last summer. I went to pick up two burgers and one regular order of fries last night. I noticed the prices had gone up and especially the fries.
Two regular burgers, one regular fries = $26
It didn’t dawn on me until today they custom cut, in house their fries everyday and fry them in peanut oil. That oil price has got to be killing them on a menu item that was once a big profit maker.
***********************************************
I went to the local Hallmark store owned by some nice friends of ours here in town. I needed to buy three birthday cards, just regular nice cards – not cheap, just average – and I was charged $22.57 at the counter. We are talking $7 a card, people.
Crap.

For a short period BSue went through the “oh crap not buying” inflation reality check. I seriously had to convince her to buy eggs cause the prices were not going down. We are slowly adjusting to the outages and higher prices.
-
I’ll try to post my version of Fay’s turkey brining recipe tomorrow.
I also said I would post my Arab Jihadi Grilled Salmon recipe here and I forgot to do it.
Since my mind seems to be fully burned out on politics this weekend, I’ll at least try to share some cooking intel.

Few other cities in America have been host to more outrageous and elaborate murder plots than Houston.
Ramon Sosa was stunned to find himself in a shallow grave with a gunshot wound to his right temple. Except it was all an act to fool his wife, who plotted to kill the former pro boxer by hiring a hitman.
“When investigators told me the plan, my first thought was, ‘You gotta be kidding me, man’” Sosa told Fox News Digital. “I thought they had enough evidence to arrest her. They told me, ‘Yeah, we do have enough evidence, but she’s a beautiful lady. She’s a mother of two, a member of the community. We don’t want to take a chance going to trial and one of the jurors feeling sorry for her. We want to show her a photo of you dead, get a reaction, and use it as evidence.’ And that’s how it all went down.”
Sosa is recounting his story in Investigation Discovery’s (ID) popular true-crime series “Who the (Bleep) Did I Marry?” The show, which premiered in 2010, explores the stories of people who say “I do” to their “soulmates,” only to learn their spouses have a shocking secret.

After Pablo Picasso painted up Squawkbox’s Wanted Poster seen in the OC header, he decided to organize a posse to capture him. Nobody could catch the Cut & Shoot diesel outlaw. The story has never been told and you heard it first here from me. We got just a trace of rain last night, .07″ and may get a little more but the cold front has pushed most of the rain into the gulf, 43 and wet. Well we made it to Sunday and I may fix some imported Texas Tamale’s with beans N rice later.

Morning gang. 31 degrees here this morning and get up time. And I got that information from the Echo Silver Edition that TexMo told me about. It’s just what I needed. Even worse, with all the smart light bulbs and light switches, each of which requires a separate name, I now have to carry around a list to try to figure out which one to turn on or off. I’m waiting on the one you just point at to make it work.
Good football day yesterday. Vandy beat Florida, several one or two point games decided at the last second, and some surprises for what were good teams that got thrashed. I’ll not post them all here this morning, but I’ll post a like where you can go find them for yourself if you are interested.
The precip seems to have moved on for now, but there is more in the forecast. So cold and dreary for another day it would seem. Tomorrow morning is a trip to Marble Falls to see the eye doc. I think that should result in the final payoff for this cataract surgery. Just recently things have continued to show improvement, and when my eyes are rested, I can read pretty well for a while without glasses. Anxious to get that problem behind me.
OK, you all have a great day today. I’ll have more later as it develops. Check here for football scores. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/scoreboard/

I kind of like winter. Being naturally lazy, I like having an excuse for not getting out and doing work and stuff.

On Sunday mornings I record the US Farm Report, mostly to see the old refurbished tractor segment and this morning when I went to make coffee it was on TV and someone asked about the possibility and feasibility of producing Jet Fuel out of Soybeans! I know that farmers are always looking for ways to increase their profits but they should remember the corn/ethanol fiasco that created an artificial, government subsidized demand for corn and since they were wasting a food crop to make expensive fuel, corn and of course meat prices went up. The local farmers were happy to get more money for their corn until they figured out they could no longer raise pigs as a sideline. Be careful what you wish for. In any case the host dude answered the question correctly starting with not wanting to create ANOTHER market for a product that would compete with cotton and corn for land. He had several other good points but it always amazes me that the Rainbow Farting Unicorn bunch never, ever looks at any problem/solution realistically, like do you know how many acres of land would be required to produce 100% of the Jet A with Soybeans? Well I don’t either but I bet that if you used every arable acre of land in the world you couldn’t produce enough fuel to replace that nasty old oil and that is not to mention production or refining costs.
Buy em books, send em to school,……… ~SIGH~

Oh and my #74, this weeks tractor was a 42 Ford 9N, a Red Belly Ford we called them and it was beautiful. 😉

Here is an interesting article on Australian lithium mining.
In 1980, another metal was found at Greenbushes which, at the time, didn’t give the mine owners much pause for thought. Lithium, a soft, silvery-white reactive alkali metal, was considered more of a geological oddity.
A small-scale mining operation began in 1983, extracting lithium for use in niche industrial operations like glass making, steel, castings, ceramics, lubricants and metal alloys. It wasn’t until decades later when the existential risk posed by climate change became widely understood, and governments began talking about replacing the estimated 1.45 billion petrol cars worldwide with electric vehicles, that the reserves at Greenbushes began to be seen in a very different light.
Today the Cornwall tin pit is closed for business, and Greenbushes has become the largest lithium mine in the world.

Good Morning Hamsters,
A sunny but chilly (43) morning here has spouse marching rapidly to fetch the Chron at the end of our long driveway. The Sunday edition is always larger than weekday editions that lately have been shrinking in paper and small print. Sometime before long the geniuses at the Chron should conclude that this shrinking print size greatly annoys a large part of their readership. You know, the folks who happen to be seniors who are accustomed to reading a newspaper rather than watching the tube, hoping for some rare unbiased in-depth news coverage. The comic pages likewise have smaller sized individual comic strips that in some cases are almost impossible to read because of the shrunken print. One could conclude that management really doesn’t care. But this has all happened since the NYT bought the Chron, obviously an inferior paper in their estimation….

Paul Sperry is providing background corruption connections on Jack Smith, the special counsel appointed by AG Garland to prosecute Trump. The entire Biden administration is a rotting carcass of degeneracy.
Sperry mentions Maggie Goodlander in his postings. Here is her corrupt connection in all this mess.
A top adviser to Attorney General Merrick Garland is facing calls to recuse herself from the Justice Department’s investigation of the Trump-Russia probe, which has looked into the actions of her husband, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.
Margaret Goodlander serves as counsel to Garland, who oversees Special Counsel John Durham’s investigation. Garland has oversight of Durham’s budget, the scope of the investigation, and the release of a report Durham is believed to be writing. Sullivan, who married Goodlander in 2015, has been referenced in Durham’s indictment of a cybersecurity lawyer who worked for the Clinton campaign.
Daniel Greenfield at Front Page also has a report up on Jack Smith’s sleazy, illegal machinations at the DOJ.
The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee recently obtained an email addressed to former IRS official Lois Lerner sent from Election Crimes Branch Director Richard Pilger at the Justice Department. The email addressed to Lerner stated that, “I have been asked to run something by you.” During the Committee’s investigation, Public Integrity Section Chief Jack Smith told investigators that officials at the Justice Department discussed targeting conservative nonprofit groups with Lerner as early as October 2010.
Pilger says that Smith asked him to arrange a meeting with Lerner. Pilger further stated that the agenda for the meeting was to discuss how the IRS could be, “more vigilant to the opportunities from more crime in the . . . 501(c)(4) area.”
In their letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, the Committee said, “The Justice Department convened a meeting with former IRS official Lois Lerner in October 2010 to discuss how the IRS could assist in the criminal enforcement of campaign-finance laws against politically active nonprofits. This meeting was arranged at the direction of Public Integrity Section Chief Jack Smith.”

I don’t know that the NYT would be any better, but Hearst owns way too many newspapers in Texas and they’re all terrible, really bad.

Oh and my #74, this weeks tractor was a 42 Ford 9N, a Red Belly Ford we called them and it was beautiful.
My nephew has one, not sure of the year but it is a “Red Belly”. He and his dad (my BIL) rebuilt it, including the engine, got it all painted up and put new tires on it. It is neat. BIL has blue 9N he uses to mow.

JOKE OF THE DAY:
A woman takes her 16-year-old daughter to the doctor. “Okay, Mrs. Jones, what’s the problem?”
The mother says, “It’s my daughter, Debbie. She keeps getting these cravings, she’s putting on weight, and she is sick most mornings.”
The doctor gives Debbie a good examination, then turns to the mother and says, “Well, I don’t know how to tell you this, but your Debbie is pregnant–about four months would be my guess.”
The mother says, “Pregnant?! She can’t be, she has never been left alone with a man! Have you, Debbie?”
Debbie says, “No mother! I’ve never even kissed a man!”
The doctor walked over to the window and stared outside. About five minutes passed before the mother said, “Is there something wrong out there, doctor?”
The doctor replied, “No, not at it. It’s just that the last time anything like this happened, a star appeared in the east and three wise men came over the hill. I’m not going to miss it this time around!” 😀

#84 Texpat,
Quite a listing of Texas papers there. Anybody suspect this is a nefarious effort to turn Texas purple at least when so many papers are owned by Hearst? That used to be a well thought of outfit. Long ago and far away. Things have reached the stage that if they say it’s raining out, you have to go look to see for yourself.

I’m getting ready to season my USDA Prime Rib Roast for Thursday’s date with the smoker. I’m going with cherry wood. My mouth is already watering in anticipation.
-
TexMo that sounds delicious, we will be doing one Christmas, but in the oven.
Just took the turkey out of the freezer and put in the garage fridge. We won’t have much of a crowd – six peoples I believe.
-
I’ve never smoked a rib roast before, I need to try it out someday.
-
I finally got around to posting some pictures of the new Pole Barn over yonder. Front view and a canted view. Oh and the interior showing the freestanding trusses. So let’s see if we can sneak 3 linky’s in one post.

Super Dave

Now about that eatery.

What’d you do this time Super Dave… 😛

Posted with 3 links. I know, I’m SOO ashamed. 😀

Well, I’m struggling this morning. Like Adee, I go fetch my (Sunday-only) HouChron from the driveway. But this morning, the paper had landed so close to a circle of plantings around a big clump of trimmed shrubs that it was invisible just looking down the driveway. Thinking it might have landed in the street, I finally decided to walk further down, and did find it landed in the vegetation.
So I was later than usual making an enlarged copy of the sudoku, got it 95% filled out, then discovered I had an error somewhere. At that point, it’s best to just print another copy and start over.
I have a short list for a Kroger run today, and I think I’ll do that first. Shoot, I may restart that puzzle tomorrow morning.

Yet another example of runaway inflation…….
I just ordered 1/2 dozen Wix oil filters for my bike – last time around IIRC I got them for $7 – $8 each
(not bad when HD filters are $15 or MORE)
Today I saw the Wix filters priced alla way up to $20 each and more!
I continued my search and snagged ’em for $8.90 each over on RockAuto

I made holes in the rib roast and stuffed minced garlic and patties of butter into the holes. Then I seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic, & paprika. I thought I had cheese cloth to cover it with, but paper towels had to suffice.

Y’all say a prayer. I’ve got to get some rods installed to hang some tapestries. This means climbing a ladder. The older I get the more weary I am of ladders.
-
I read that President Trump’s Twitter account will be reinstated. Trump says he’ll stick with his own media platform. I do not see that lasting. Trump will assuredly be back on Twitter because he is such a narcissist.
-
I saw over on Twitter Dan Rather opened his pie hole about Elon, about Twitter – on Twitter. He got blasted back into his hole a bit. It is amazing he still has supporters though…

#98 – The boys coming for T’giving told me to make a list of chores that they can help me out with when they come, so I’ve taken them up on the offer. Most of the chores include things that require getting up on a ladder, such as cleaning the shelves in the cabinets, changing and installing a smart light bulb in my hallway, etc. Think I will let them assemble my greenhouse too, and let them help anchor a tarp over some of my outdoor equipment that will not fit in the shed,. For starter…..
My apple/cream cheese dump cake with crumbly top is about to come out of the over. It smells awfully good. It’s sort of a mish mesh of about 4 separate recipes that I watched on YT. If smell has anything to do with it, it will be just fine for the gang.

Do they operate chain saws and tractors? If so, send em over, they can put up in the Farm House and I might even fix em some grub. 😉
-
Wife is fixin’ supper SO, since discretion is the better part of valor, I’m staying out of the kitchen! 😀

#98 TexMo,
Hire help to do stuff like that. Worth every penny not to take a chance on a fall. After all, we don’t bounce very well any more, do we? 🙂

My #91 BTW; My contractor recommended adding soffit to the underside of the eaves to keep the critters (birds) out. The barn is fully enclosed. I thought this was a good idea and only a little bit more $$$. The picture is looking up from the inside before the outer tin was added. The tin would have been just outside of the 2′ X 6″.
-
BTW; Thanks Squawk! You the man!

It’s been another dreary day out here, but the temp did get above freezing so it’s not icy outside. l chipping away at some little chores but nothing very heavy duty. I’m kinda getting sleepy, but its too late for a nap and too early for bed. That big old apple cobbler is still sitting over there cooling and testing my will power, but I’m still planning on holding out since it is most definitely not keto. SD, I’ll send those boys right over. BTW the older one took up welding in high school and is now an expert in just about every type there is after having been at it for about 10 years. He’s writing his own ticket and doing well for a kid we had doubts about finishing high school a few years ago.

I’m still alive! Ms. Adee I finally broke down and hired a handyman earlier this summer to paint, remodel a half bath, and take care of a bunch of little maintenance issues that I’ve put off for over a year. He even recently painted my living room and fixed some drawers in the kitchen.
My wife and I had a miscommunication so we didn’t hire the handyman for this task. About halfway through, I did finally overcome my nerves and felt much more comfortable climbing up and down that ladder.
The entire reason I had to move the tapestry is because I mounted a flat screen TV to the wall where the tapestry originally hung. I had to raise the tapestry about 4ft – 5ft.

108 El Gordo
When I came up with that recipe 20 years ago by combining several different recipes, farm-raised Atlantic Salmon was $6.99 per Lb. It is now $12.99 per lb. so it’s up to $33 to $39 for the main ingredient. We usually make at least 2 meals for both of us so it works out to $8-$10 per person per meal. I used to make it more often, but it has migrated to special meal status being so pricey. It’s a once every 3 to 4 weeks event instead of 3 or 4 times a month.
-
I think even boloney has risen to special meal status.

Wife has been out delivering Flying Saucer Pies all day to past clients, this morning she asked me to take stew meat out of the freezer to thaw and get it seared and ready and she would do the rest. I have my way of doing stew which is not the same as hers so as a trained hubby I don’t interfere. Then she calls and says she’ll be too late for stew so find sumthing else, so I took out a couple ribeyes from the freezer I’d already grilled. Then she said she’d have time so get stew meat going, so I put ribeyes back in the freezer then she called said no not enough time. So we are getting Popeye’s Chicken. Sometime. Oh wait, I got beer…
-
Flying Saucer Pies are most certainly special event status. Dang.
-
I never knew the Flying Saucer sold pies at the holidays. I may have to look into purchasing one if it’s not too late.
-
So yesterday I didn’t notice Godzilla in the WIP. Today I did notice the nude pin ups behind that picture of Dan Akroid and Chevy Chase.
I’m not sure if this classifies as a vision problem or if everything is all in order. 🙂
-
My #118
I assume Granny Hamous’s eyesight is failing and thus didn’t notice the pin up girls.
-
Early to bed out here tonight so I can leave early in the AM for Marble Falls. Should be back by noon if all goes well. Temps are supposed to remain above freezing but should have some precip. Nite nite all.
-
TexMo she tried calling The Flying Saucer to order, they told her they didn’t take orders, to just come get them. She was ably to walk in and get seventeen, all different varieties. That was Friday, I think, the lines will grow as Thursday looms, probably have already. Not sure about stock.
-
GJT – every year, the newsies play footage of people standing in line to pick up pies from there for Thanksgiving, wrapping around the block… I’d say that it’s a good thing that she went when she did 😉
