Morning, Super Dave… I agree – neat mailbox!!! I guess every buddy is huddled in their nice cozy beds, or their fingers are frozen to their keyboards, without hitting the “post comment” button 😉
To my dismay:
The Miss Israel beauty contest will not be held this year, ending a run of annual competitions that started in 1950. As a result, Israel will not be sending a contestant to the international Miss Universe contest to be held January in the US.
The move by organizers of the Israel contest, which was quietly announced last week, drew a range of responses from past winners, from lamenting the development to welcoming the event’s demise. In recent years the pageant has faced criticism for judging women on their physical appearance.
Quelle Horreur ! Objectifying women’s appearance ! What barbaric inhumanity in this day and age !
Oh, for crying out loud, the human race is in the late stages of massive clinical narcissism induced by the internet, cell phone communications and the psychotic egocentrism resulting from pernicious secular boredom. All of this made possible by Western capitalistic innovation that has lifted most of the human race out of poverty. Be careful what you wish for !
It also funds societies in which tens of thousands of useless navel-gazers grift off vast oceans of cheap dollars in utterly useless positions as professional Karens, sanctimonious virtue barkers and Marxist court jesters.
There are more women living off their objectified good looks in the 21st century than any resident of the humanity’s past could have conjured in their wildest imaginations. The commercialization of beauty and sex appeal, by women and for women, knows no bounds in this day and age. Any conspicuous pomposities about “objectifying women” today is beyond the limits of hypocrisy and absurdity.
I will allow the theory the Israelis may actually be on to something. With New Hampshire electing a beauty queen for Miss America who is a male, obese and decidedly ugly and the state of Oregon considering males as female beauty queen contestants, perhaps Israel wants to preemptively bail out of a tradition before it too is destroyed by the Left. Let the Christian nations self-destruct their institutions of feminine beauty – we want no part of it !
What he said.
Forgot to mention that the Bellville football team finally beat West Orange-Stark in the playoffs after many attempts over the years.
Next up: Madisonville.
I just got off the phone with Hubby. Told him I felt rode hard and put up wet, after last night’s battle zone in the kitchen.
Coffee in hand…
Good morning, C&C, it’s Wednesday — already! Lots of good news in your roundup today, which includes: Texas’s biggest, boldest, most underreported move; Texas starts criminal elections investigations; Republicans take the House of Representatives; Real Housewife thinks jabs made her sick; more celebrity SADS; corporate media’s evolving hot takes on what looks like Ukraine’s attack on Poland; Trump’s announcement; and a couple FTX updates.
He starts off with Texas, so here we go…
Ron DeSantis finally responds to attacks from Trump, media: ‘Check out the scoreboard’
From the C&C, Childers starts off with his usual snark about the media. I love this guy.
Ostrich-like corporate media completely ignored what was probably the most important story of the day yesterday. I could only find articles about it in rightwing media and Fox. Corporate media haven’t yet received their orders on what the narrative is supposed to be, so they aren’t allowed to talk about it.
Sometime back in 2020, corporate media outsourced all critical thinking to save money. [snuffle snort]
He then describes Abbott’s invasion declaration and the now claimed ability to, let’s say – be more aggressive in repelling the invading hordes. I’m gonna hold my breath until he does so.
I joke.
I’ll just say that I withhold judgment until I see – or don’t see – what happens.
There’s an interesting provision in Abbott’s order directing coordination with other affected states. I wonder if Abbott means Florida, with whom Texas has been working lately.
Abbott also raised the stakes with the Biden Administration. By declaring a “state of invasion,” he invoked Article IV, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution, which provides the U.S. “shall guarantee every state in this Union a republican form of government and shall protect each of them against invasion.”
Now Texas can sue the federal government for, at least, reimbursement for the cost of border enforcement. Sure, the Biden Administration COULD defend a lawsuit by arguing that there isn’t “really” an invasion, it’s not THAT bad, and so forth. But the lawsuits will start in the Fifth Circuit, which is a jurisdiction favorable to Texas that has shown a lively independent streak over the last two years.
I’d love to see the lawsuits start to fly. Not hopeful on the outcome, but it would make this problem more visible to the low information voters. Wait, I delude myself. The LIV’s *still* wouldn’t know or care. Just hand them their freebies with which their votes are purchased.
I would love to see the compacts start to form. I could see TX, LA, AL, FL, OK becoming the basis of a new resurgence in responsible governance. Or maybe a new nation. The way the rest of the country is swirling, I’d be happy to secede, walk away, and start over. Not likely, but dang, the libs have worn me out.
Societal entropy.
Forgot to mention that the Bellville football team finally beat West Orange-Stark in the playoffs after many attempts over the years.
Well Reeltown Blew Skipperville’s GW Long out of the water in round 2 of the 2A Playoff’s, 55-Zip. But Reeltown is always good.
FWIW; My best friend is from Reeltown. He’s the one that went with me to the Winston 500 @ Talladega in the spring of 1970. I had just turned 16.
Morning gang. Went to coffee this morning. The new place just does not have the character that the old TOK at Larry’s has. Lady who was running Larrys had abdominal surgery and will not be back for a while, and she has proved that the place just cannot operate without her. She may be sidelined for the rest of the year. So anyway, the new place is all spiffy clean, your elbows don’t stick to the tables, the waitress punches in your order on an ipad, you order off a menu – it’s just not the same as walking in and having the cook prepare your normal breakfast without even having to order, or if they don’t know you, just telling them what you want and they fix it without the need for a menu. I guess the wheels of progress continue to turn.
They are plenty nice and appreciative of our business, but it’s just like walking in to Denny’s or something.

DeSantis is a class act.
And now, Childers focuses on Harris County:
Also underreported was Governor Abbott’s order to commence a criminal investigation into last week’s elections in Harris County, which was plagued by malfunctioning voting machines, randomly-closing polling locations, and many other reported problems.
/snip
He continued, “The allegations of election improprieties in our state’s largest county may result from anything ranging from malfeasance to blatant criminal conduct. Voters in Harris County deserve to know what happened. Integrity in the election process is essential. To achieve that standard, a thorough investigation is warranted.”
The constant whining of Hidalgo about the perceived injustice of Abbott’s focus on the mangled election process that occurred is like nails on a chalkboard. She sounds like a child. Seriously, she sounds like a child.
If she had run the elections properly, there’d be no need for a criminal investigation. Put on your big girl panties and deal with the consequences of your actions.
it’s just not the same as walking in and having the cook prepare your normal breakfast without even having to order, or if they don’t know you, just telling them what you want and they fix it without the need for a menu.
My wife never orders breakfast off the menu, just tells them what she wants. Which means they get to pick whether it’s the #1, 2, 3 and so on, usually the most expensive one.
It’s encouraging Abbott declared the border invasion. I have a feeling just issuing the order alone will be as far as he’ll reach out though. Reading through the list of options he now has, and we never did this before? Makes you even madder. We always heard our hands were tied, this was a Fed problem. I know dr phil good, you been hollering it all along.
And now that the GOP is in control of the House:
Neither should we forget about major changes headed for the January 6th Committee. I’d bet a steak dinner that democrat heavyweight Bennie Thompson has chaired his last meeting, and Liz Cheney has slandered her last conservative from the bench.
Also remember that for some reason the democrats couldn’t get the Committee’s final report out before the elections, so now the final report will be drafted by Republicans and, I assume, will feature a much different tone than what democrats had originally planned.
Well, we’ll see.
Unfortunately, Childers has multiple reports of new “sudden and unexpected” deaths. RIP to all.
Followed by a long discussion of the latest Ukrainian war news.
This is a good primer on the geopolitical position of Israel vis-a-vis Ukraine and Zelensky. Israel has taken a lot of left wing and media crap for not supplying Ukraine with arms.
Jonathan S. Tobin at Algemeiner:
The UN is widely and rightly disparaged in both the United States and Israel as a source of incitement against the West and a perversion of its founders’ intent in the aftermath of World War II. But it is also generally dismissed as a meaningless talking shop with no connection to reality.
In this sense, both Americans and Israelis tend to underestimate the damage that the Palestinian campaign to use international law to isolate the Jewish state can do once its bureaucratic apparatus is put to work on behalf of this anti-Zionist and antisemitic cause.
Just as important, it creates a diplomatic playing field in which the antisemitic invective is normalized to the point that it’s hard for nations to refuse to join in with the mob and take a courageous stand beside Israel.
This is where Ukraine comes in.
and here is the essential core of the situation,
Israel has condemned the illegal attack, sent Ukraine large amounts of humanitarian aid and taken in refugees. It has also shared intelligence with its military about the drones that Iran has sold to Russia. But it refuses to supply Zelenskyy with weapons for a number of good reasons.
Moscow, which has forces in Syria, has allowed neighboring Israel to act against Iranian and other terrorist forces there with impunity. Furthermore, there is still a large Jewish population in Russia that is now, in effect, hostage to the authoritarian whims of President Vladimir Putin.
But Ukraine and its many noisy supporters throughout the world have dismissed Israel’s justified concerns about being dragged into a war in which it has no direct interest, and treated it as if it were uniquely cynical for its refusal to do Kyiv’s bidding.
not least of all this as well,
Still, Ukraine’s pleas for Israeli help would be more reasonable if Kyiv were actually a friend of the Jewish state. Let’s ignore Zelenskyy’s lies about Ukrainians standing with Jews during the Holocaust, as opposed to what they actually did, which was to aid the Nazis in their slaughter.
Let’s set aside, as well, the fact that Ukrainian nationalism, historically, has been closely connected to antisemitism. Instead, let’s just focus on the attitude of the modern Ukrainian republic, and specifically Zelenskyy’s government, toward Israel.
This brings us to last week’s UN vote—98 nations in favor, 17 opposed and 52 abstentions—for referral to the International Court of Justice.
The 17 “nos” consisted of Israel, Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Guatemala, Hungary, Italy, Liberia, Lithuania, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau and the United States.
Among those voting in favor was Ukraine.
And then Childers brings more FTX weird news to light:
I didn’t know that Epstein was involved. Holy moley.
The way all of these all too common names are involved reminds me of an Arkansas family tree.
15 Tedtam
…so now the final report will be drafted by Republicans and, I assume, will feature a much different tone than what democrats had originally planned.
There will, no doubt, be two reports from the J6 Committee, the official House report written and edited by Republican committee staff which will be wholly ignored by the MSM and the renegade Democrat minority report comprised of all the childish TDS MAGA nightmares of Cheney and Schiff that will receive coverage 24/7.
And like I needed another reason to despise this Pope:
For those who don’t know, Fr. James Martin is an outright homosexual, who has a ministry to reach out to gays and bring them into the Church. He wants gay marriages to be celebrated in our churches.
In our faith, gay sex is a “sin crying out to Heaven”.
He is also the bestie of Francis.
While we have a virtuous Cardinal Zen undergoing persecution in China, this is the crap that our Vicar indulges in.
From the comments:
I have no doubt in my mind that we are about to go through the Great Chastisment that the Virgin Mary warned us about.
Yes, me too. I’ve heard some theologians say that the Church has its own Passion to go through, and that we entering that period. I pray for my Church, and I remember that the people in it are not the source of it.
Gotta keep that straight.
BTW – Both Martin and Bergoglio are Jesuits. Jesuits are the laughing stock of traditional Catholics. So many jokes, so much derision. All well deserved. It’s a shame that such an honorable order has become the butt of jokes.
It’s a shame that such an honorable order has become the butt of jokes.
Perhaps, if their collective focus was on hearts and souls instead of butts . . . . .

Nearly A Dozen Police Recruits Run Over During Morning Jog In California
I THINK THIS CAN BE LAID DIRECTLY AT THE FEET OF THE ‘DEFUND THE PO PO’ MOVEMENT.
Add to that the numerous on-video incidents of cops being jerks, blatantly violating civil rights, bald face lying, etc., and it is no wonder that the unstable and stupid lash out. There are a whole bunch of self absorbed narcissists out there who have never been forced to suffer the consequences of their actions; the end of that road is always destruction.

I saw that headline as I was typing. The chiron said “LA recruits”. I’m assuming this was Los Angeles.
Why am I not surprised.
I just checked the morning weather for Whittier, California. It was 72, clear, sunny, very low humidity and breezy. NO FOG. The actual sunrise was 06:26 AM so there should have been adequate light.
If you hit one or two joggers, it might be an unintentional accident. If you run over 16 without stopping, it’s called multiple attempted homicides.
Good Morning Hamsters,
Overnight low was 40 here, overcast with a breeze (make that a cold breeze), and it looks like a typical Texas winter day down here around Houston. Miserable.
Enough leaves have left the pecan trees that we can see the husks on most of them. Looks to be a good pecan crop, at least around here. Not many have fallen yet, but that just takes a windy cold front straight out of Canada to roar through.
Pleased that Governor Abbott is taking charge of protecting Texas in lieu of the Jackass Feds in DC ignoring it and even encouraging it. Love the idea of sending busloads of illegals up to the prissy New York/New England area to let them manage the mess with their own money, not ours. Same thing for other Democrat- run states that pontificate on a problem they are responsible for.
I’m glad Adee is getting pecans this year. I don’t think I’ve seen a single one throughout my whole neighborhood, which is known for all the pecan trees lining the streets.
We have a bumper crop of pecans here this year, not just at the Farm House but up here also, even the small pecan at the corner of the Pole Barn was loaded. BTW; they make quite a racket when they hit the tin roof and you’re inside. We’ve also have cornered the market on Asian Pears. 😉
The local grocery store that holds a monopoly on the local grocery business came out with their weekly ad this morning, and surprisingly, it is offering really good coupons and deals on Thanksgiving staples. Frozen turkey basically half-price ($10 off on each one), free cake mix with coupon, some other free stuff with coupon, big discount on Blue Bell, etc. I wound up purchasing a bunch of stuff that I can not eat but which will be handy for the crew coming in next week – 10 lb. bag of taters for $.99, for instance; pound of butter $1.59. What we don’t eat while they are here I’ll send back with them to keep in their own pantries. Sugar, flour, etc. all steeply discounted. Pork butts for $1.19 which I think is a good price, even for a tamale maker. Nothing special on beef however. Anyway, I’m pretty well stocked up for the gang now. Had to hide that BB in the big freezer though. Sadly, they have gone to digital coupons on a phone app, so they can easily control how many times you use it and will not allow limits to be exceeded. I think I wound up purchasing stuff at around $55 and after discounts paid a little over $30. Score!
I’m tired of the cold. Not that I have any particular fun thing I want to go out and do, but it is monotonous just staying indoors to keep warm. Makes me want to burrow in under the covers with JoJo and Tyler, and just sleep until it warms up.
Aw heck, I jut checked the 10-day local weather forecast, and I didn’t want to sleep for 10 days.
This week is Trans Awareness Week. In recognition of this wonderful week I would like to recognize Chrysler’s three-speed, heavy-duty TorqueFlite 727 automatic transmission. In 1970 my Dad bought a Dodge Charger R/T with this Tranny driven by a 440ci/375 hp-horsepower Magnum engine it was definitely a get up and went car.
Oh wait, you mean this week is not about auto transmissions? Oh well my bad. i said my story and i am sticking with it.
I was going to get my treadmill time in, but even after eating and trying to rest, it’s just not looking like a good idea now. My head just isn’t liking life right now. Maybe later. So I’m at my desk.
At least I got Fred refilled and put jars on shelves. I got that much done, anyway.
In honor of trans week, I’d like to focus on “gressions”. We have “microaggressions” and such, but I think “transgressions” deserve special attention.
Without transgressions, where would the libs be? They are also responsible for the geopolitical boundaries of today. And the imagined variety keeps Karens a source of both frustration and amusement for all.
EG – ain’t it nice to feel like you actually won at the store?
How I felt after getting all that sale beef. That reminds me – I need to see if it’s still on sale and get it canned up and on my shelf.
I almost fell over at the price of butter on my last journey into my local grocery store. (I don’t count Fiesta, I’ll never set foot in there again. Memories of nastiness haunt me even after all these years.) I’m hoping that as Thanksgiving draws near I can get butter on sale and ghee it up for the shelf.
#31 Squawkster the 70 Charger is one of my favorites and I even like that green color. FWIW; The 727 TorqueFlite transmission is the best automobile automatic ever made, followed by the Chevy TH 400 and the Ford C 6 (in that order). I left out the Slip N Slide Power Glide but it is one of the strongest autos made. In 1965 you could get a Impala with a 4 speed or a TH 350 with the small block but if you wanted the 396 you had to get a Power Glide or a 4 Speed since the 400 wasn’t out yet. Also as GJT knows, Power Glides were/are popular on the drag strip.
I just sent out my Pic of the Day. Today’s pic was taken from a file that included a family day at the beach over ten years ago. Nieces and nephews were brought by my sisters, and I got a lot of family pics, as well as other images of other folks and things at the beach.
One of them was a truck that was parked within the tidal zone and was inundated with sea water. There were some guys looking it over and probably contemplating drinking beer over the event while waiting to see if/when/how it could be towed out when the tide receded.
One of the fun things I’ve added to the POD is a line of Scripture, trying to fit it to the image. Some days are more difficult than others, and sometimes the connection isn’t obvious to others, but here’s today’s quote:
“And the men of the city said to Eliseus: Behold the situation of this city is very good, as thou, my lord, seest: but the waters are very bad, and the ground barren.”
[4 Kings (2 Kings) 2:19]
Bad waters, indeed.
I’m grateful to DRBO.org. It has a great search function that I use often.
Super Dave
My Dad was a fan of Chrysler/Mopar for years. He owned a 56 Desoto Firedome. Dad’s was red. I do not remember the car other than from family pictures. His next car was a 64 Dodge 330 with the trusty slant 6 and push button automatic transmission. That car was built like a tank. He finally traded it off after replacing the 3rd exhaust manifold. For some reason it would crack at the engine connection bend. The car I inherited was a lightning fast (I KID) three-speed Torque Flight automatic 225 Slant 6 1973 Plymouth Duster. That thing was Canary yellow so i could not get away with squat when I borrowed it.
This fall – for the sake of your health and the health of your loved ones – get your updated COVID shot and your flu shot.
After my grandfather died in March 1965, my grandmother in Bellville waited out the appropriate widow period of mourning, then took her 4′-11 and 1/2″, 105 lb. self down to the local Chrysler dealer and told them she wanted to buy the fastest car they had. She drove off in a navy blue 1966 Dodge Coronet R/T 440 Magnum with pillows on the seat so she could reach the pedals. The family never knew how many speeding tickets she got because her little foot was very heavy on the throttle.
My grandmother gave me a lot of illegal driving lessons on the back roads of Austin County in those days. We had a lot of fun in that hot rod car since she never once told me to slow down.
If you think the woke mob is mad now, just wait until Trump identifies as a woman and becomes our first female president
#39 Texpat
That is awesome. I too received many illegal driving lessons on the backroads of Lampasas County, but they were not in anything that could be counted as a hot rod.
Squawk and Texpat; My Dad was a Studebaker fan, he had a 49 I-6 standard, 50 Commander V8 Auto and a 52 I-6 standard. Before that he drove Pontiac’s and then in 57 switched to Chrysler products. First a 57 Plymouth Belvedere, 318 Push Button Automatic, 61 Dodge Dart Phoenix (Mid Size car) 318 Push Button Automatic and then a 66 Chrysler New Yorker with the 440. About the time I left home he bought a 70 Dodge Crestwood Wagon with the 318. Sadly his last car was a relabeled K Car, a Chrysler New Yorker V 6.
BTW; Texpat your granny reminds me of my Mom’s, Mom she had a 57 Crown Vic (292?) and a 62 Galaxy 500 2 door with the 390 and automatic on the floor, black with red interior. I’ve mentioned before that she took my sister and I over thrill’s hill at 55 MPH in that old Crown Vic, both our heads hit the ceiling. That said, my granny was a fairly big lady, 5’8″ 150 Lbs, my Mom 4’13” 105 Lbs. 😀
Squawk that old 225 slant six was one tough little motor, designed for trucks it was a torque monster, (the stroke was longer than the bore diameter) and it lasted until they all switched to V 6’s.
Ok, this Slim Ball was/is/always will be, a darling of the left, how could you not like him? ~SPITS~

In honor of your G-MA
Super Dave
Yeah that slant 6 was one tough bird. It broke my heart when Dad got rid of it. I was riding motorcycles at the time so I could not afford a car and a bike otherwise I would have bought it from him. I mean i was just a kid making a couple bucks an hour as a pin chaser in a bowling alley so the monetary flow was limited.

Can’t wait for Thanksgiving. BSue and I are doing a road trip rain or shine and eating out for Thanksgiving Day Dinner. Kelly’s diner makes a darn fine meal and while BSue will prolly get the traditional fare I am going to have shrimp.
For Christmas another road trip possibly to Louisiana and grab dinner at a cajun eatery. Maybe reprising the Thanksgiving trip.

BSue and I decided on holiday roadtrips back when my Dad died and we were taking care of my Mom. Mom suffered with dementia to full blown Alzheimers. Mom did not do well in social situations and especially during the hub-bub of Christmas and Thanksgiving. She enjoyed birding, so we threw in a trip to Kellys keeping some semblance of the holiday traditions in the day.
Now that Mom is gone BSue and I are continuing that tradition. My brothers are entertaining their kids and their families or going to their kids place. So we really have no place to go and frankly I much prefer the quiet with my wife. She enjoys the road trip prolly more than I do and I enjoy the road trip. So we are making the best of it.
Artemis is wreaking havoc on our Latin classes. I had a talk with magister about it last Sunday.
But he’s glad it’s happening now and not on the later date that would make it a 42 day trip instead of this shorter one.

Squawk, can’t beat a good Road Trip, we’ve made several lately.
Just got off the phone with daughter, she’s hired 160 welders in the last 2 weeks to cover their new pipe contract with a big company in Midland. She’s been real busy so we’ve not had a chance to talk. I had texted her to see if she felt the 5.2 Mag Earthquake over in Mentone, NW of Pecos and then she called me back. She said she completely missed it since she was driving at the time but when she got back to the yard her guys would have all sorts of stories about it. FWIW; She has been enjoying boiled peanuts imported by a coworker from Mobile, her daddy freezes them and Fed X’s them to Midland. There is another gal from Houma that loves boiled peanuts also so they’ve all introduced them to west Texas. 😉
Wood stove installation hit a big snag today. The builder installed a double wall stainless steel pipe that is only rated to 1500F. The wood stove manufacturer says you can connect to any pipe. The guy doing the work says wood burning stove need a steel pipe (not stainless) that is rated to 2100F.
My painter came today and painted the living room. The chimney guy just had to cut two holes in the sheetrock because he had to get in above the masonry work to demolish all of the existing double wall stainless pipe.
These guys will stay as late as it takes tonight to complete the installation of both the pipe and the stove. I feel bad for them being up on the roof as the sun will set soon and it is overcast here so it is already pretty dark.
I walked out to the back of the property to check how my redneck temporary erosion control was working after the little rains we had, walked by the garden that I have not even looked at since summer – I have about 10 tomatoes going and had 6 jalapeños! City boy me had no idea they’d keep going, I only got about 4 jalapeños and 5 tomatoes all last summer! Also, most of the jalapeños were red, didn’t know if they were still good or if too late so looked it up, yep, still a jalapeño, just at full maturity. Tomatoes are still green, most very small. Don’t know if they’ll get froze to death before they’re ripe.
Might get some fried green tomatoes out of the deal anyhow.

Little Deuce Coupe may have been the first 45 rpm record I ever bought when I was a little kid.

Yes it does. That ceramic catalyst counts as the tertiary burn within the stove and that gets it up to its 91% efficiency rating.
With a stove that efficient you can put fresh logs on at 10 pm and still have decent heat coming off at 6 am.
I’m really impressed that skinny dude climbed up inside the chimney area through such a tiny hole in the wall.
Texmo
Thanks for the Thanksgiving invitation yesterday. I’ll have to let you know after this weekend.
I really need to delve into this new marriage “equality” bill that is set to be signed by Biden.
When I served on the Parish Council at my church, our priest was concerned that eventually the law would stipulate that he would be required to perform same sex marriages. For the record, the Orthodox Church does not recognize nor condone same sex unions.
Our priest mentioned that it might come to the point where he no longer performs legal marriages meaning he would stop signing marriage licenses. The couple would be united in the Holy Sacrament of Marriage by the priest, but it would not be a legal union under the law. The couple would have to go to a JP to get legally married by the state. This way the priest just performs a ceremony that is not legally binding though it would be binding in the eyes of the Lord. This would be a work around to tell the gay couple that comes up to the the priest. He would simply day he doesn’t perform legal marriages.
I’m super glad I’m not man handling that 500 lb stove. Of course I can barely lift 30 lbs now…
Whooping cranes spotted on Texas coast
First sightings of the endangered whooping crane have been reported along the Texas coast, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reported.
Janess Vartanian, with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, says that on Oct. 21 a pair of whooping cranes were the first to arrive this season on Matagorda Island. Most will arrive in and around the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge in December.
Whooping birds, according to TPWD, are the tallest, rarest birds in North America. The current population is estimated at about 543 birds. They migrate this time of year 2,500 milers from northern Alberta, Canada, to the Texas coast.
I haven’t followed the Whooping Crane numbers for a lot of years.
I’m stunned there are 543, now.
It seems like they were almost gone not too many decades ago.
They been busy.
Justin Verlander got the AL Cy Young.
Stove installation is complete. I have to wait two days before I can do the test burns to allow time for the high heat caulk to cure. I’m glad it’s going to be chilly for the next week. I’d hate to have to break this thing in while running both A/Cs because its 80F outside.
Sounds like everyone has plans for Thanksgiving. So do I; next door neighbor Ken, the 80+yo, is hosting a holiday lunch for friends and neighbors. I’ll go look at the large pies they have ready to go at the Kroger bakery the day before, a practice that has always worked out well for me. If I ordered ahead, it would always be their excellent pecan pie, and it is fine with me if I have to get something else. I like being amazed how yummy all their pies are!
These days I don’t get to talk to the kids much but Daughter called about 4 PM and we talked about an hour and a little after 8 PM CT the Boy called, he was on his way to his office in Thousand Oaks and wanted to talk about the election. He is real worried about the integrity of the elections and wonders if we even have a chance in 2024. He started the conversation with something like, I don’t even own a Tin-Foil hat BUT,… We had a good talk and he’s all excited about the Vette. He’s searching for black wheels now, those chrome things just don’t cut it. That’s my boy!
TexMo You’re going to really like the wood stove. My dad would stoke his Fisher stove up before he went to bed, crank the dampers almost closed and when he got up all that was left was a bed of coals so he’d just toss more stove wood and keep it going. BTW; It would be about 70 degrees in the den on a freezing night if he let it go all night.
Not something you see often:
It’s like rehiring the coach that’s gone 0-17 for the last 10 years.

McSwamp Turtle losers forever.
Time to form a red state coalition and separate from this abusive, election stealing, totalitarian federal government.
We’re really no more than slaves to these losers as it is.
Bedtime coming out here soon. You all stay warm and have a good night.
Before I do, I’d like to just say this. There has never been a bigger Trump supporter than me, and I still do not believe that he lost the last election. Having said that, it’s apparent to me that all the Dems and probably 2/3 of the Reps are scared to death of him and will go to any length to keep him out. I’m a master at fighting losing battles and the patron saint of lost causes. But this one is too much even for me. DeSantis is going to have to do his best to win the thing, and hopefully some way some how Trump will realize this and throw his support behind him That’s how I see it. The Trump magic is gone. It was great while it lasted, but it is gone. Deader than disco to quote something I heard a few days ago. Sad but true. The young blood is ready to take its turn.
Good to hear you say that El Gordo. We owe Trump a great debt, he showed how it could get done and that it could get done. I hope somehow this works out without harming the cause. I don’t see how.
Neither Desantis nor Trump can win in the land of totalitarianism and the home of stolen elections and add to that McSwamp Turtles Inc running the GoopeeCon party into oblivion.
