Don’t it always seem to go
That you don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone? – Joni Mitchell -
Y’all be gentle with the site…I hear we’re operating in “band-aid” mode.
-
Thanks again, Squawk. I wasn’t sure how to approach this on the backside so I decided to wait for you to ride in and fix it.
-
A doff of the fedora to Bluehost and Jetpack. Their support is outstanding. Everything seems to be working as it should.
-
Well there y’all are! I thought it might be all over and I didn’t get the memo. In any case I knew that if a “Critical Error” could be fixed the Squawkster could/would take care of it. Thanks, Muchly Sir! We just got back from the 3614 Jackson Highway Recording Studio and it was very interesting and I learned a lot that I didn’t know. The tour guide actually worked there from 1969 until 1978 when they moved out of the rented building. He lost me a few times with names and dates since I’m not a Rock N Roll Aficionado and I just know Phil and Katfish would know more about it. They’d really enjoy this place. I have a few pictures to post later when I have time.
Oh BTW;

I need a vacation.
YES! And a raise. 😉

Good Afternoon Hamsters,
Thanks to Squawk for fixing things. This is the kind of great support fellow Hamsters can and do give time to fix it for all of us.
Spouse and I voted at the middle school in Pecan Grove as usual. Very convenient for us. There was a steady stream of voters coming and leaving when we arrived and departed. Would imagine the noontime crowd would be larger. That is good news.
I had Halloween pumpkins to rearrange. The live green one on the front porch bench is feeding somebody or several somebodies, with several more and larger bites missing today. Left it to maybe feed more critters before I retire it. The really big pumpkin on the bench is now showing just its plain pumpkin side since I turned it around so the face is behind. Simple way for it to be fall decoration until Thanksgiving, the day after which is going to be switch into Christmas decorations day.

At least the distractions of not having a working “couch” got me off my duff, and a stew pot full of hamburger, tater cubes, carrots, and onions turning themselves into “soup” to take to church for potluck tonite… And when the time comes, I have all sorts of other dehydrated veggies I can toss in if it looks like something is missing… Tedtam – thanks again for the inspiration to “prep” and a reminder that it is not JUST for if TSHTF…
-
Thanks, Squawkmeister! We are exceedingly fortunate to have you ready, willing, and able to pump some air back into The Couch on days like today.
-
Morning gang. I think that was all I was going to say this morning about 6AM anyway. Nice day here today. I’ve opened the windows to air the place out. I don’t think it smells bad anywhere in here anyway, but a good fresh airing out never did any harm. Fixing some chicken cabbage soup to snack on. I’ve been getting hungry mid afternoon with my 2 meal per day regimin, and that sounds like something I could keep on hand for a late lunch or sometjhing like that without having too much carbs in it. Pretty easy to fix with the Instapot right there – just boil the chicken, save the broth, start sauteing the veges in a little olive oil, cook them down, add the broth and the chicken back in to the mix, and pressure it up for about 15 minutes. We’ll see how it turns out. I added a little of my home grown peppers instead of the bell peppers they recommend – I just can’t handle those things. I’ll let you know how it turns out, and it should help with any morning visits to the reading room as well (TMI?).
-
BTW, thanks for getting the thing back up and on line.

I feel so much better now that, when I click the reload button, the site refreshes AND there are, sometimes, new comments… Last thing that would load on my laptop from yesterday was my comment to Bones about the archery woodworking video he shared, and it being so much more interesting than the game. Prayerfully, tonight will have a different outcome, and the site won’t…. ohhhhh best not even THINK that….
-
I just loaded the canner: quarts of chicken, pork stock, and bacon, and two small jars of bacon grease and ghee.
And I’m going to treadmill while watching the canner. I had some errands to run this morning, and wanted to get them done before starting a canning cycle.
I overcooked the bacon a bit, so I treated myself to a BLT using some keto bread from Aldi and some of my dried tomato slices. It was nice to not have it dripping down my shirt. I really like using the dried ‘maters on my sandwiches.
I had a 1.5 chicken breasts left over, so it’s marinating in some soy sauce to be made into stir fry later. I just harvested some ginger greens, asparagus green beans, thai basil, and okra for dinner tonight. I have some cabbage in the fridge. The remaining cabbage may get blanched and dried after dinner. Or the tomatoes…before they go bad. I’ve been putting them off the last few days, and they are definitely ripe now and ready to be dried.
I tasted some of my tomato powder the other day. WOW! It sure packs a punch of flavor, just a bit on my finger.

#14 – Just for the record, that’s the same thing I told my Urologist

So here is what happened. It is impotent that everything is kept up to date. I do not let updates lapse. Wordpress, the engine that makes this blog possible, issued an update so I updated. Wordpress is a great product but we depend on third party plugins to secure the site. One of the plugins is called Jetpack. It provides Akismet (HAL) that keeps the spammers at bay and other valuable functions that WordPress does not provide. Anyway Jetpak was a few hours behind updating their plugin and we got caught in the middle. Jetpak could not load properly causing all kinds of errors and basically shutting us down.
I called Bluehost after identifying the problem. Their bandaid fix was to shut off Jetpack. I knew that we probably going to be the short solution just to get us working. I contacted Jetpack and got an oh crap reply. They apologized profusely and pushed through an update to their software. I did the update and lainie kazan we are up and running. The moral of the story is called the plugin techs when the pronlem is with them.

Just for another on the record comment, not enough of them are gone yet. The school board remains in tact, as do the teachers who failed to follow policy, for starters. If you are going to clean it up, clean it all up. https://www.iheart.com/content/2022-11-02-disturbing-911-audio-emerges-from-inside-uvalde-school-during-shooting/?mid=972659&rid=98116218&sc=email&pname=newsletter&cid=NATIONAL&keyid=National%20iHeart%20Daily%20NewsTalk&campid=headline4_readmore

In other news, a mid afternoon sample of just finished cooking chicken/cabbage soup is actually pretty darn good. The girl who posted the recipie/video said she lost 15 pounds in the first couple of weeks, so I’ll see if it works for me. I would not mind dropping another 10 or so just to get it below my playing weight in college. But first, I’d better have a little more while it is cooling to be put away.
-
Y’all left me hanging over on the REAL Wednesday Open Comments thread all by myself. Squawk fixed the problem. Why y’all still here on this thread?

This thread is new and shiny.

I think you should get that thread to a hunnerd. You got a good start!

Astros certainly need a road win to make up for the home loss they gave away. They will get started here in a little bit. Apparently they were tipping their pitches last night so the Phillys knew what was coming every time. Probably someone from the Astros staff should have picked that up since that is their job.
Armadillos moved their game against highly ranked Tolar to tomorrow night. Problem is the Owls also play UTEP tomorrow night. Maybe I can move a second TV into the den and watch both at the same time. I expect the Armadillos to be overwhelmed early, but hopefully the Owls will put up a struggle unlike what they did last Saturday. This might turn out to be a football weekend starting early this week, and of course, there will be at least one more WS game after tonight also; hopefully more of those as well.
My cabbage soup is good tasting, but it does not stick to your ribs for very long. I’m already getting hungry again, but it may be that it’s just getting close to my regular dinner time and I just think I’m hungry when I’m actually not. Looks like I’ll be eating on that cabbage soup for a few days.
PS – Oh, oh – Bidet is supposed to be making a speech right now. Guess I’ll have to miss that one as I need to clip my toenails or stare at my navel, or something.

I’m running behind on a bunch of things after Shannon’s visit and then the website crashed today. Mid-morning my tree service contractor showed up and said he was coming around noon to start trimming trees so I never got out of here today and was involved in all this yard maintenance stuff. I’ve been trying to get him here for months so I couldn’t reschedule. Besides, he does a great job and he’s cheap.
Then I have to sit down to eat something and this imbecile on TV is rambling on about voter suppression and Trump election denial and violence…VIOLENCE, I tell ya’.

#17 Squawk, First line,
Is it really impotent, or is it important? Curious readers want to know. 🙂
-
#29
I wasn’t going to ask….
-
#28 Texpat,
When something important like the elusive tree man finally shows up happens, we can wait for that to be taken care of before launching today’s Hambone. Besides, everyone needs to recall this is volunteer work….

#30 Tedtam,
🙂

Double his salary!
I don’t think that’ll work, I’ll let Jethro ‘Splain; Naught X Naught is Naught, SO it stands to reason Naught + Naught is Naught,………..You’re welcome,…… 😀

In Cut & Shoot, impotent is a transliteration of important. These are distinctions one must know to navigate the vast, various linguistic flavors of Texas dialects.

#34 Texpat,

Big difference. But it doesn’t translate in the written form.

I decided to skip my usual burger with cheese and sliced tomato for dinner tonight and have another bowl of that cabbage/chicken soup that I made earlier today. It’s got just the right amount of bite for my tastes, although many might find it a little too spicy, but I must admit that I’m amazed at just how good it tastes. It just hits the spot for something new to add to my limited meal selection. In fact, both onions and carrots are not purely keto, but hopefully there will not be enough to make a big difference. We’ll see if I can stand to keep eating it after another day or two, but so far I’m pleasantly pleased. My recipe of course is the usual meshing together ingredients from two or three published recipes, adding things I like and disregarding things I do not like. All the cabbage soup recipes that I saw had no meat but were made with chicken broth, so I just cooked up some chicken thighs in the instapot, used the broth in the soup, and then pulled the chicken off e bones and threw that in too. Not at all bad.

I know I keep harping on this subject, but it just makes me. so. mad. SO. MAD.
Endocrinologist Forecasts More Hormone-Related Diseases as Spike Proteins Found to Deplete Endocrine ‘Reserves’
Dr. Flavio Cadegiani, a Brazilian endocrinologist, suspects that the worst has yet to come for spike protein-induced diseases in the endocrine system.
/snip
Studies have shown that spike proteins from COVID-19 infection and the vaccines can damage endocrine glands, including pituitary, thyroid, and adrenal glands, as well as reproductive organs, and many more.
Cadegiani raised a concern that the slower onset of endocrine pathologies may pose difficulties in diagnosis and treatment.
Endocrine pathologies can take longer to become apparent because endocrine glands have “reserves,” according to Cadegiani.
“What we’re going to see in the future [for endocrine diseases] is a little bit different from the other fields, because glands have reserves and the decrease of the reserve will not be clinically seen right now, but it may be in the future,” said Cadegiani…
So, kinda like the myocarditis not showing up for years, the endocrine problem won’t be readily apparent. This disconnect could give Pfizer, et al, some legal cover because of the disconnect between the jab and the onset of illness.
Cadegiani said that most of his concerns for the future are speculative and based his own clinical observations. But since the pandemic and the administration of COVID-19 vaccines began, there have been increasing reports that implicate endocrine pathologies.
And so it begins.
-
BTW, my link leads to a long article which describes how the spike protein wreaks havoc on the endocrine glands throughout the body.
-
How in the world did Gurriel hit that pitch?

#41 – OR steal 2nd? hehehehehehehe

You’re living in a 20th century dreamworld if you think any persons or corporations will be held accountable.
-
Javier is our only Ace.
Too bad we can’t clone him.
-
I stand by my declaration the Phillies look like a bunch of ugly, homeless street bums. And I’m telling you that Castellano gavron in right field looks like he came from a whole family of made-guy hit men.
It’s a moral imperative these Philly thugs must be beaten.
-
They may look like a bunch of homeless meth-heads, but I think we need ten more insurance runs tonight.
-
It sure was nice to hear the muted crowd in Philly during the 5th inning.
-
If I ever get another dog I’m going to name him Charles Barky.
-
Well center fielder Brandon Marsh looks like a guy they picked up from a homeless shelter or off the street. It doesn’t look like he had washed his hair since the post season started.
-
#48 LOL

Let’s go
YankeesAstros -
In 67 years I never met a dog named Charles.
-
Bedtime is drawing closer and closer. Not certain if I can stay for the end of the game. Of course, I can listen to it in the bedroom provided I don’t fall right asleep. We butter win is all I can say. Nite all.
-
My Mother-in -law 2.0 was a Pomeranian breeder.
I’m sure there were some Charles’ in that bunch.
Lemme tell ya, those are some yippie dogs. Scary and somewhat irritating in large groups.
🙂
-
Of course, I can listen to it in the bedroom
Just tell Alexa to turn it on in there.
-
I guess no pitcher has a chance of throwing a no hitter anymore.
-
Nasty pitch there, Vern.
-
Was the Houston crowd ever this quiet? Even when they were way down?
-
Mattress Mack got caught in a video arguing with Philly fans last night in Philly. Threw some F bombs. Memes are going crazy over yonder showing Mattress Mack all gangsta. Funny.
Mack said he learned some new words last night and unfortunately used them lol.
-
The pitches against Castellanos were brilliant.
-
We just got a Fetterman political ad.
Scariest man ya evah saw.
-
I saw that. Expensive ad, and why?
-
Funny how they don’t call her Doctor Jill Biden anymore.
That was just the first of many embarrassing moments for this woman.
-
Diaz will not be missed.
-
Some pitching right there.
-
YeeeeeeeeeHaaaaaaaaaaaa

:excited: :excited:

Picked a bad day to give up Modelo.
/pops top
-
That throw to 1st looked underhand!
-
Did you see earlier that super slow motion side view of the Philly starter’s throwing motion?
The torquing going on in that limb is shocking.
-
Damn announcers sure trying to jinx a no hitter.
-
:outstanding!: :wahoo!:
-
#71 – No kidding! Schmaltz was mentioning the no-no since the danged 5th inning!
-
Isn’t this also the second combined no hitter of this post-season for this crew?
-
I don’t think so. Missed it if it was.
-
Pointing out that our guy pitched five no-hit innings is different than talking about a no-hitter in later innings.
Jus sayin’.
-
I personally saw no hitters from Nolan Ryan against the Dodgers in 1981 and Mike Scott’s division clincher against the Giants in 1986.
-
Get ready.
the Kenyan ventriloquist’s wooden dummy said it may take days to announce election results.
2022 is extremely vulnerable because the go along to get along party didn’t want to correct the 2020 steal and many of them were in on it imo.
Saw Tucker Carlson’s opening tonight.
He talked about the head of the cia going to Brazil last year and telling Bolsanaro officials he’s not allowed to contest the election in Brazil.
Another steal imo.Fed judge in Arizona ruled mail ballot drop box watchers can’t be within 250 feet of mail ballott drop box.
that’s almost a football field in distance.
get ready.
The 2022 steal is on. -
Those days are gone forever a single pitcher doing it.
-
” For just the second time in World Series history, a no-hitter has been thrown as four Houston Astros pitchers completed the feat against the Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday night to win 5-0 and secure their place in baseball lore.
Cristian Javier started Game 4 in the series for the Astros, tossing six innings of no-hit ball before being relieved. Bryan Abreu and Rafael Montero each pitched a perfect inning before Ryan Pressly closed out the Phillies in the 9th.
The only previous no-hitter in World Series history is Don Larsen’s perfect game in the 1956 World Series.
The only other no-hitter in postseason history was tossed by Roy Halladay for the Phillies in the 2010 National League Divisional Series. “
-
No manager will ever allow another (multi-) million dollar arm to throw 9 innings to try and match or beat Don Larsen’s 1956 perfect game.
Ain’t gonna happen.
-
I personally saw no hitters from Nolan Ryan against the Dodgers in 1981 and Mike Scott’s division clincher against the Giants in 1986.
No fair.
Im not sure how many times I got to see Nolan. He was something to watch.
-
Hard-pressed to pick an Astro’s MVP at this point.
-
Any other team would be going home with their tail between their legs. What worries me about these Phillies is they are probably out getting drunk tonight and plotting ways to sabotage the Astros. They’re like animals.
-
Need a friend needing to get rid of Game 6 tickets.
-
Mattress Mack goes to Annunciation. We have confession before every mass.
He’ll be okay. 😉
-
I still haven’t received my American League Champions coffee mugs.
Those Chinamen need to get on the stick.
-
A strikeout is among the most exciting things in sports, right along with a home run and a touchdown. Watching the strikeout king throw a no hitter is just indescribable.
-
I still don’t know what levelup means.
-
Delightful success for our Astros. We’re waiting for you to come home and finish it off in friendly, civilized territory. 🙂
-
I still don’t know what levelup means.
It just sounds cool, I think.

Please remind me to tell the story of Katfish and I making Ron Darling get whacked with a Balk call.
