Thirty-four years ago, about this time of year, my five year old daughter and I stood in the cool waters of the Guadalupe River above this dam at Hunt, Texas and that morning she caught her first fish. It wasn’t big, but big enough to keep. It was a beautiful moment and I will never forget the look on her face. I would love to be back on the Guadalupe right now. Great Hill Country memories.

All is quiet in the neighborhood. Looks like new neighbors in the home across the street from us are busy bringing things over from their house that’s only a mile away. We think it is our neighbor’s daughter and son in law who have decided to move over here. Lots of coming and going by workmen recently doing probably updating… Read more »
Dark Thirdy out here on the Hil with a cool breeze blowing threw the screen.
Good sleeping weather. 🙂
Nite all.
Raw cookie dough rocks!!!
Is this going to be the next microwaved grilled cheese sandwich with a side of chili w/beans debate?
GJT She walked by a bit ago saying she will make it up to me, I told her she had to literally help me get dressed and drive me from doctor to doctor to hospital from end of May to just 3 weeks ago so we are not keeping score cause I’ll LOSE!! She’s definitely a keeper! I’m right there… Read more »
I know it’s a little early, but night all.
THIS popped up over yonder and I couldn’t help but think of Hamous ,….I do miss him; “Bozo the Clown at Silver Springs FL. Year Unknown.”
FWIW; Clowns hit harder than Mayo and that’s saying a lot. 😀
Shannon; “No kidding. The mere thought of eating cookie dough repulses me”. I’ll ditto that, I never did understand the concept.

Thanks man you are my perpetual cheerleader, always completing my grub. That said; the wimmin’s seemed to really love the brown gravy and it was extra thick but I did notice that the first thing on both their plates was the okra. 😀
I have a small pork tenderloin over there ready to go into the oven. Charro Beans in the pot. And some cheesy broccoli rice ready for the microwave. That’ll do fer sure just remember the Huy Fong Sriracha sauce for the beans. Anyway, supper tonight is hasselback sweet taters and pork chops seared in a skillet and finished off in… Read more »
No kidding. The mere thought of eating cookie dough repulses me.
We’re going to have a talk about it some time.
Cookie Dough definitely hurt your fingers if Mom was in striking distance.
I think I gained 10 pounds just reading about all the good sounding and looking Breakfast/Dinners. Mom had no superstitious about what we ate. You just better not waste anything! We ate so many Blackeyed Peas and Lima Beans, it took me many years after leaving home to eat them again. For something sweet she used to take orange peels… Read more »
Can’t remember if that was Mom’s or my grandmother‘s.
I still believe cookie dough will give you worms because I know neither of them ever told a lie in their life.
BSue
Cookie dough will give you worms.
Shannon, Daddy swore that if you drank milk while eating fish you would die of food poisoning, and there was no antidote… (I think more of his relatives died of lead poisoning at the hands of the Hatfield-McCoy feud than milk and fish but….)
After my running around this morning, I came home and cooked breakfast at noon.
Three eggs over hard, sausage, toast.
Never heard about the milk and fish thing.

mharper42, that same superstition made its way through our family, too…If we were having fish, we had to make iced tea because… And Ken’s Sweet Vidalia is THE BOMB…
Lots of yummy suppers on display tonight! I made green salad base kits earlier today, so that is my main thing I’m craving. Just need to cut up and add cherry tomatoes, an avocado I got when I went to the store today, and some Tillamook cheddar cheese strips — and that will be ready for salad dressing; Ken’s sweet… Read more »
Son got his Suzuki Samurai going with the new side draft carb kit he ordered, he ended up having to replace the fuel pump as well. So we are good to go next weekend with it.
I have not mentioned but evidently my wife came home from Memphis with the rona, she does not want to know for sure so no test, even the home one. She’s not bad, just doesn’t feel good, low fever yesterday. I’ve been taking care of her as much as she’ll let me, been doing the cooking. She walked by a… Read more »
SuperDave – it looks yum!!!
I posted my Fried okra earlier so here is the “Rest of the Story”. Beef roast, new potatoes, butter beans, fried okra, gravy and rolls. Man that was a fine supper. BTW; Wife and sister agreed. 😉
Shannon, your frequent mention of charro beans, and my having a goodly amount of pintos leftover from the meal we provided after a memorial service yesterday at church have led me to look to see what makes charro beans, charro beans. It would appear that I need to add some bacon, pork or sausage, & chorizo, along with chipotle pepper…… Read more »

All I have to do is go over there and turn everything on.
Welcome aboard, Tedtam. 🙂
Belief in the “Communion of saints” has long been a really big one for me.
The names of family members gone before race through my mind when I recite those words.
Or sometimes just one of them.
I was hit with an enormity this morning during mass, as I was waiting to queue up to receive Communion. First off, this is pretty Catholicly, so exit now if you’re not interested. In the Catholic Church, we believe it it has the Communion of Saints: The Church Triumphant (those who have achieved Heaven), the Church Militant (those… Read more »
What we have here is some southern fried okra, battered in cornmeal. Not the heavy beer batter but okra washed and shook in a paper sack with cornmeal. Good stuff I’ll tell you. Sister is here so I have a beef roast in the crock pot and I’m also cooking new potatoes with butter beans. Oh and brown gravy N… Read more »

Evil always tells us what it is going to do.
Just a passing thought on what some Texans might think of if becoming a Republic again is the only answer to the mess the Dems have already made and are aiming to do more damage. Demand that the original boundaries of the Republic of Texas be restored. 🙂
I read it also, what a masterpiece of elegant writing and thought.
Hey I read it!
Putting up huge banner warnings on front page posts doesn’t seem to do any good, after all.
RE: My comment @9:01 AM today. Unbelievable. I don’t normally link to Gateway Pundit because they haven’t been reliable in the past, but this is beyond all belief. Even the head of the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requested Apple and Google in June to remove TikTok from their app… Read more »
OH CRAP I have been ratted out A scientific analysis of internet trolls finds that yes, they’re actually sadistic psychopaths. I found out early in my moderator career that to defeat trolls you had to be a better troll than them. I read volumes of information on what made them tick. it turns out that the people who like to… Read more »
I just discovered that Texpat posted another thread; “The Soul of Our Revolution” and by all means go over and RTWDT. I need to check for these more often since I missed the other two a few days ago.

Yeah I loved Hammie like a little brother. One of my favorite things to do with him is say something so outrageous that it brought out his patented BALDERDASH.©®️. I knew it was troll fun time for 15 minutes.
I mean far be it from me to troll anyone.
Tell me Chuck, what is love? 😀
Well, I didn’t plan well, if at all, to get my essentials done this morning. If only I had been able to postpone my Sunday Sudoku for half an hour, I could have gotten my quick trip to the store with a list of 5 MUST-HAVES, then followed by breakfast-with-sudoku. As it is, we have a frog-strangler coming down at… Read more »
Yep, Hammy was our irreplaceable seer. I miss him a lot, as I’m sure everyone else on The Couch does.
Thanks, Squawk, for digging out these reminders for us.

Total a$$holes – that’s why they call them Totalitarians. Owing to the fact that the Senate is a government body, it is violating the First Amendment by blocking Twitter users. Well, good. A Catholic advocacy group has launched a $1 million ad campaign calling on the Biden administration to condemn pro-choice activists’ violent attacks and vandalism of Catholic churches. Things stay exciting in Alabama. Around 5 p.m. Tuesday, Decatur Officer Jack Brown was relaxing at home. He noticed an unfamiliar black Jeep Wrangler sitting idly in front of his house. It’s good to see Phil Gramm has apparently not been swallowed up by the swamp.
No.
I got “fact checked” just yesterday on a post I shared a couple weeks ago on the 87,000 new IRS agents not being able to fit in a football stadium, wasn’t clear what the infraction was supposed to be other than trying to indicate it wasn’t going to be 87,000.

Former US Senator Phil Gramm published an Op-Ed piece in the Wall Street Journal. Scott Johnson at Powerline provides great quotes from Gramm’s tribute to Ronald Reagan. Without responding, Reagan got up and led the way to the meeting. Sitting down at the cabinet table the president said, “You called this meeting, so let me listen to what you have… Read more »
