Good grief.

I love it! They used that movie clip before for the left-wing shenanigans. There is a lot of truth there though.
Hoping for rain that may come later. We got barely a sprinkle here on the farm but they got a trace in Podunk late yesterday. The streets were dry but there was a little water on the sides of the road I guess that 98 weather dried them off quickly.
Mornin’ Gang -
69 degrees out here this morning. No additional rainfall since night before last, but still moisture to green the grass. Not sure what the day has in store for me yet, but guess I’ll find out soon enough. Hope that you all have a great one, and don’t forget to stay tuned for the latest news and greatest hits. More later.

All those kids get slaughtered in Uvalde and there is a national uproar. 51 (so far) illegals die a horrible death locked in a reefer air tight trailer abandoned on the side of the road – ho hum. Hundreds of thousands of babies slaughtered and dismembered in the womb – any efforts to put a stop to that butchery met with violent reactions. That’s just the recent past. Where is the logic, where is the humanity.

Oh and El Gordo, I’m real jealous of that inch of rain you got but you likely needed it more than me. An inch in San Saba is a lot! That ought to green up that dry county pretty good for a week or so.

Morning, Gang… I’d have been here sooner but the inter-webs didn’t want to reset this morning. Always makes me feel like I did something wrong on the re-set… guess it just wasn’t ready to wake up…

If only Hamous could’ve lived to see this and the Dobbs decision.

Disney’s stock plummeted by $40 billion, its favorability rating dropped from 77 to 33 percent, its new Buzz Lightyear film was a massive flop, and Ron DeSantis stripped the company of its special privileges. It’s been a rough year for the Mouse. -
Good morning Hamsters,
I don’t seem to stay logged in very long at times despite hitting the Remember Me button every time I re-do the log in. Sometimes the log in is good for several days and then quits without reason known except to the computer. I keep a copy of the password right next to the computer, as it is complicated and long enough that I can’t recall all the gibberish in it. Before the last great update, I had no problem with staying logged in. It has a short memory.
Wonder what today’s hoo-rah will be on the web from the lefties upset about something. Kind of fun observing the panic on the left as they stupidly keep on digging and then wonder why the hole is getting so deep. And how they blindly ignore the wishes of the original Democrats as if they don’t matter anymore. So those folks say adios, we’re outta here and take refuge as Independents or, horrors, decide to vote Republican.
-
Back from the TOK and I’m happy to report that all is well, especially in San Saba. Which of course goes to prove the old adage that ignorance is bliss. Think I’ll go outside for a while and mess around. More later.

I just got through unloading the jars I scored at the thrift store yesterday, out of my dishwasher. The ladies at the thrift store know me, and they know why I come. I can get my jars there for half price or less, unlike Goodwill or Salvation Army. I chide them gently if they fail in their jobs when I arrive and there are no jars on the shelf…and they smile and apologize, with tongue in cheek. Sweet people, Nancy and Ari.
I wanted to go yesterday because Wednesday is “seniors day” and holy cow, it’s cheek to jowl in there, especially in the morning when the old(er) folks stampede the doors. I avoid Wednesdays now. The last time I went was on Wednesday, and I believe there’s a senior who also cans, because Nancy said that someone had bought the jars they had. So I beat ’em to it, going yesterday afternoon.
Angela, one of the volunteers, told me she had just stocked the shelves with all of the jars I had in my basket. She even ran to the back to make sure she hadn’t missed any for me. I scored two cases of jars, plus. Many of them are the itty bitty ones, but I use them for my herbs and teas. I vacuum seal them in small batches to keep them fresh. They are also good for bathroom storage or for gift giving. I also got a good bunch of 1.5 pint jars, pint jars, and quarts, plus a bag full of lids and rings. The bag will be useful for my vacuum sealed, dried products. The quart jars sell for $1.49, and the other jars for $.49. So much cheaper than retail!
I found a few other kitchen items that I needed, along with three bolts of tulle for my garden. I got the tulle for $5/bolt, which cost me $20 at Wal-Mart. By the time I left, my basket was overflowing and I’d spent more than I planned, but it was so worth it.
I love my little Forgotten Angels!

#8 Texpat,
Other than that, how did the Dems like the play?

If you are using an iPhone, the Remember Me feature doesn’t work. Never has.

Even on my laptop, my login gets forgotten periodically. Maybe it’s a security feature? Or maybe the blog has reached “senior” status and has “senior moments”.

The frequent requirement to re-login is most likely a bug due to our increased level of security measures because of recent hacking attacks. We realize it is a hassle, but it’s an unavoidable issue currently.
Someday, we’re going to have to redo this platform to a more updated format with more secure features. Until then, we have to live with it.

About the log in, every few days or so I get kicked out this has been happening for at least 20 years and I don’t really know why except that maybe my IP Address changes slightly to confuse the Spammers. I only say this because occasionally Vanguard doesn’t remember me when I log in and texts me a secret number that I run through my decoder ring. Then they ask, since we don’t recognize this device so are you going to use it again or is this a remote location.

BTW; I just boiled a dozen yard egss since I seemed to have cornered the market on them and I remembered that Buck Seventy Five asked about my Deviled egg recipe. So here goes BUT it’s nothing special;
I don’t use a recipe, but I’ll try to give you a run down as best I can. I start with 6-8 eggs that are at least a month old, (so they’ll peel) put them in a pot with cold water and when I see a rolling boil, I cook for 5 minutes and turn them off. After about 10 minutes I cool them off with cold tap water until the pot is cool, then cover the eggs with ice and water and put in the fridge until they’re cold, often overnight. After peeling, slicing and removing the yokes, I mash the yellows with a fork until it’s crumbly. I sprinkle salt, pepper, garlic powder (not garlic salt) over them until I think it’s enough. I add one small, finely diced up onion and Candied Jalapeno Relish from the Pig. I’m guessing that I use one to two tablespoons but I just add until it looks right. Now a squirt of stone ground mustard, (1 Tbs?) two good squirts of Dukes Mayo (2 Tbs?) and about 1 Tbs of sour cream. I mix it all together and add more mayo if the consistency isn’t just right. It needs to be slightly creamy but not mushy. And no, I don’t believe that I said that, all technical and such. I of course spoon the mixture into the halves and pretty them up with a butter knife then sprinkle with Paprika. I suggest starting with my less then exact amounts and work it for your tastes. Also some folks like more mayo. I like mayo but it can be overpowering.

Sorry – I wasn’t complaining about logging in HERE… We generally reset our internet router every morning, since we use it for both internet and TV… and it’s really inconvenient to have to reset the silly thing in the middle of a program, when it starts “buffering” instead of displaying the program… I’d already figured out the “keep me logged in” doesn’t work here, most days LOL

Got outside and started chopping down a little cactus. Accidentally got in to a fire ant bed, and by the time I was able to get out of the woods and up to the house where I could safely take my shoes off and deal with them, the damage was done. Darn those things sting. Oh well, I was about done out there anyway.

Good morning and Happy Wednesday, C&C! Today’s action-packed roundup includes: more great legal news from New York; random thoughts on incompetent government; the January 6th Show jumps the shark; sudden and unexpected celebrity deaths and illnesses; the long knives come out for Biden; Russia warns Finland and Sweden about NATO membership; and Russia targets US-linked biolabs in Armenia.

*COVID NEWS AND COMMENTARY*
In another miraculous development Monday, New York’s Supreme Court struck down a new ordinance allowing non-citizens to vote in the Big Apple. The law would have added 800,000 new voters to the rolls, allowing resident non-citizens to vote for mayor, public advocate, city council, borough presidents, and school boards.
Justice Ralph Porzio wrote the decision, saying the law directly violated the New York State Constitution. “The New York State Constitution expressly states that CITIZENS meeting the age and residency requirements are entitled to register and vote in elections,” he explained. The bill allowed non-citizens to register in political parties and vote in local elections as long as they were residents of New York City for at least 30 days and had a green card or a working visa. In other words, temporary foreign residents could vote in NYC elections. Makes sense. Mayor Eric Adams was on board, saying that while the new law might not be legal, green card holders should get the vote, because fairness.
Who cares about trifles like legality and constitutions anyway?
Thank God for the judicial branch. Am I right?

A highly-destructive myth about the U.S. government has been a permanent fixture of American politics for as long as I can remember. The myth, which seems mostly held by folks on the left, is that there is a bench of highly intelligent experts available to “help” a popular president who might be a little light in experience or, shall we say, intellectual heft. I call it the “hired expertise” theory of politics.
For example, President Obama’s pre-White House resume was a little on the thin side, having served only one term in the U.S. Senate and before that held a job as a paid political activist (“community organizer”). But that thin resume was no problem! He would just hire or appoint super-smart people with experience, and brainy subject-matter experts. That way his oratory and diversity strengths could shine, and any weaknesses would be erased by anonymous flocks of unaccountable administrators and skilled bureaucrats.
If Biden hasn’t shaken people of this myth, I don’t know what will.
There are four key problems with the “hired expertise” theory of politics. First, the candidate does the initial hiring or appointing of the people who hire or appoint everyone else in the administration. If that initial team isn’t solid, the whole thing blows up on the launch pad, which is what I think happened to Biden. He appointed a very diverse but totally unqualified cabinet who themselves began hiring staff, and things quickly went downhill from there. The systemic weakness rippled through the entire federal government, as the weak cabinet members hired or appointed agency heads who hired or appointed key staff within the agencies.
A second and even more pernicious problem with the “hired expertise” theory of politics is the incorrect notion that the candidate can be somehow completely protected from making bad decisions by the hired or appointed experts. That is simply not true. No matter how good the staff, eventually only the candidate can make a decision, or has to when a decision is so unpopular that nobody else wants to own it. And those decisions are usually terribly catastrophic.
Third, while strong candidates suppress existing bad actors who’re burrowed into the government, weak candidates can’t, and often get manipulated into giving legacy bad actors more power. Fauci is a perfect example. He did the most damage right after the Carter administration, which failed to recognize how dangerous he was and keep him under control. I think Trump would have mitigated Fauci had be remained in the White House. But Biden utterly failed, allowing Fauci’s power and influence to flourish, right along with the amount of carnage Fauci caused.
Finally, weak candidates can be manipulated, which creates a kind of political Thunderdome as the candidate’s most ruthless advisors compete to control the candidate. Whoever wins immediately manipulates the candidate into destroying or removing their rivals, ensuring that no other strong advisors are ever hired or appointed again and that they themselves are completely protected from any responsibility for mistakes. So a weak candidate will ultimately be surrounded by one main ruthless, cunning, and unaccountable advisor plus a pack of croneys and spineless lackeys.
The failure of the “hired expertise” effect can also be observed in miniature in political committees like the January 6th Committee.
******************************
The House January 6th Committee’s gala anti-Trump show jumped the shark yesterday when it aired its rescheduled blockbuster Episode 6.
The star of yesterday’s show was Cassidy Hutchinson, 25, a photogenic former aide to Trump’s final chief of staff Mark Meadows and recent college graduate. She was a star witness not because she did anything or saw anything on January 6th, but because she allegedly heard a lot of stuff from other people. Stuff we lawyers usually call hearsay.Hutchinson said she was “disgusted” by President Trump on January 6th, because he refused to stop the rioters. “We were watching the Capitol building get defaced over a lie,” she lamented.
She recounted having been told by others about lots of things damaging to the President. For example, at lunch on January 6th, she said she’d heard Trump threw his lunch plate against the wall in a temper tantrum when getting some bad news about Bill Barr; that he knew about the riot and wanted to join in; and most salacious, she recounted hearing about a detail-packed story where Trump tried to wrestle the steering wheel from his security team so he could join in with the violent mob at the Capitol. Hutchinson painted a word picture of a furious, out-of-control chief executive who tried to force his limousine to the Capitol over the wishes of the Secret Service and his top staff.
She also testified that Secret Service agent Tony Ornato told her boss that “there could be violence” on January 6th. According to Cassidy, Ornato told Meadows that many of the people attending the Capitol rally had guns and other weapons, including spears attached to the ends of flagpoles, and Meadows didn’t care.
In one significant bit of testimony, Cassidy told Liz Cheney that she’d written a note, a “smoking gun,” dictated by Mark Meadows, saying “Anyone who entered the Capitol without proper authority should leave immediately.” Then she dramatically produced the note. On the big screen.
As her testimony concluded, corporate media and anti-Trumpers began composing an epic song about how damning Cassidy’s testimony was and how NOW Trump was REALLY going to get arrested.
Right after that, Cassidy’s story started falling apart. Immediately there were LOTS of questions. For example, the president does not usually sit in the passenger seat. He’s usually always driven in the BACK of the vehicle. Where someone can’t reach the steering wheel. Why was he in the front? Last week, after news broke about Joe Biden toppling off a motionless bicycle, corporate media said well, President Trump couldn’t even ride a bicycle or walk down a ramp, so … something. Anyway, Trump must have been having a pretty good day to wrestle with a secret service agent for control of a moving car. How’d he do it?And, why did would call a low-level staffer to testify she’d HEARD about all these things? Why not call Meadows himself? Or the Secret Service Agent Tony Ornato? Or anybody who was in the car when Trump allegedly tried to grab the wheel? It already wasn’t adding up.
Then it got worse for Committee fans later yesterday when NBC’s Chief White House Correspondent Peter Alexander announced that the secret service members who were actually in the President’s van that day are willing to testify before the Committee that Cassidy’s story is made up.

A source close to the Secret Service tells me both Bobby Engel, the lead agent, and the presidential limousine/SUV driver are prepared to testify under oath that neither man was assaulted and that Mr. Trump never lunged for the steering wheel.June 28th 2022
CNN is now breaking reports that Tony Ornato, the secret service agent she said warned Meadows about dangerous rioters, also disputes Cassidy’s story.https://twitter.com/ShimonPro/status/1541938642918178819?s=20&t=nwbQBhpNtaydEmatar5LRg

UPDATE: A Secret Service official familiar with the matter told CNN that Tony Ornato denies telling Cassidy Hutchinson that the former president grabbed the steering wheel or an agent on his detail.
June 29th 2022Finally, a spokesperson for Eric Herschmann, a former White House attorney, told ABC News on Tuesday that the “smoking gun” note was actually written by Mr. Herschmann on January 6th, not Cassidy. “All sources with direct knowledge and law enforcement have and will confirm that it was written by Mr. Herschmann,” the spokesperson added.
Oops.
So, it looks like the Committee’s Whopper is really a grasshopper burger that nobody wants to eat. It looks like Cassidy Hutchinson just took a blowtorch to her career, joining insane fake whistleblower Rebekah Jones in the unhappy pantheon of deranged publicity seekers.
This is what you get when you have a committee of Bennie Thompson, Adam Schiff, and Liz Cheney making the decisions.
Sad!

Former “Partridge Family” child star Danny Bonaduce, 62, told Good Morning America about his strange health problems that started two months ago. He said in April his wife Amy first noticed that his speech seemed off. His symptoms escalated from there.
“I couldn’t walk at all,” Bonaduce recalled. “I couldn’t do anything like that. She looked really nervous. And she said, ‘You’re not saying words, you’re not speaking English,’ which of course is preposterous to me.”
“We call an ambulance and [it] took me to the hospital where I remained for the first five days and remember very little of it,” he said.
The experts were baffled, of course, like they always are when it matters. “I couldn’t walk,” Bonaduce explained. “I couldn’t keep my balance. I slurred really badly. I was afraid of everything. I was afraid of my stairs for God’s sake — I was hoping for a diagnosis but did not get one.”
It’s a baffling mystery!
Fortunately, Mr. Bonaduce shared that his symptoms are now slowly improving.

On a live on-air interview yesterday, CNN anchors heard from the New York Times’ Jonathan Martin, who stressed that Joe Biden is “already the oldest American president and there’s real doubts about his capacity to serve a second four-year term.”

*THE MINORITY REPORT*On Monday, Russia’s former president, Dmitry Medvedev, currently deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, warned Western policymakers about admitting Finland and Sweden into NATO. He explained if they do, Russia will just have to strengthen its borders with those countries, pointing out “Nobody in their right mind wants higher prices and taxes, mounting tension along the borders, Iskanders, hypersonic weapons or ships with nukes a stone’s throw from their house. Let’s hope that the common sense of our neighbors eventually prevails. Yet if not, then, as they say, they started it.”
I’m starting to get a funny feeling that Russia doesn’t want NATO on its borders. What do you think? Am I crazy?
*****************************
I’m also starting to think Russia isn’t 100% on board with all the U.S.’s deep-state biolabs creeping about its former Soviet-bloc countries. Now it’s Armenia:
On Monday, Armenian media reported Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan saying, “It is true that [Armenian biolabs] were created with the support of the United States, but they are owned by the Republic of Armenia. This topic was raised in 2018; our Russian partners expressed concern.”
Russia seems to be making progress. Earlier this month, Armenia announced it would modify its 2010 agreement with the United States, the loquaciously-titled “Cooperation in the Area of Prevention of Proliferation of Technology, Pathogens and Expertise that Could be Used in the Development of Biological Weapons.” In the announcement, the Armenian government noted that Article IV of the agreement obligates Armenia to “provide the U.S. Department of Defense with samples of dangerous pathogens discovered in Armenia.”
Uh huh. Dangerous pathogens discovered in Armenia. Like in a biolab?
On June 3rd, EurasiaNet ran a story headlined, “Armenia Limits Bioweapons Cooperation With U.S. Amid Russian Pressure.” The sub-headline reads, “Russia had again been complaining about U.S.-funded labs in Armenia. Now Yerevan is cutting off some biosecurity cooperation with the Americans.” The story explains how over the last several years the U.S. has funded the renovation and construction of “a series of biological laboratories across Armenia,” in regional centers linked to a central lab in the capital, Yerevan.
The U.S. corporate media has been completely silent about the story. Crickets.
The story helpfully includes this U.S. Embassy photo of American officials helping open a new Armenian biolab in 2017:
Now Armenia is working on a “Comprehensive Law on Biosafety,” in which “it will be clearly stated that the Armenian side is not obliged to provide samples of pathogens to any state.” Like the U.S.? EurasiaNet reported that “The U.S. Embassy in Yerevan had not responded to requests for comment by the time this piece was posted.“ Weird.
In a May 23rd interview, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov listed Armenia as one of several sites where U.S.-funded biological laboratories were objects of Russian concern. “What’s important is transparency that allows us to ensure that these programs do not have a military dimension, as this is prohibited by the Convention on the Prohibition of Biological and Toxin Weapons,” Lavrov said.
Get this. Lavrov then said that Russia was in the process of setting up agreements with several post-Soviet countries allowing for Russia to inspect the bio-facilities.Uh oh. Inspections? That can’t be good for business.
It’s so odd that Russia would object to having a raft of U.S.-linked biolabs in countries along its borders. And after how well the U.S.-linked biolab in Wuhan performed during the pandemic. Stupid Putin. Always finding something to complain about. [But I’m sure these labs are staffed with properly diverse, proper-pronoun using staff. Who just also happen to be highly qualified and experienced in operating in pathogen producing laboratories. /sarc off ]
I’m sure that the Department of Defense’s legitimate interest in all these community biolabs around the world is some kind of deep dark state secret. But now is the time for them to explain to us exactly what they’ve been up to. Open the books. Be transparent. Stop obfuscating and hiding behind word salad. Stop giving the Russians the ability to make us look like the bad guys, even if it sacrifices some nebulous strategic advantage.
Oh. And thanks corporate media, for keeping us informed!

#20 SD – your recipe makes perfect sense to me, because it’s the way my Mama taught ME to make deviled eggs… I do vaguely remember saying “how do I know how much of what is the right amount” and being told “less is more – it’s easier to add more than to try and remove some after you’ve already stirred it together”… Not familiar with “candied jalapeño relish from the pig” but I’ll bet my “cowboy candy” would work just fine, if I chop it up fine enough to mix into the yolk mess….
-
#24 I use Cajun Candied Jalapeño’s from the Pig (Piggly Wiggly) but I’m sure you could find them elsewhere especially in the Houston area. I was shocked to see them here in Podunk.
Oh and; -
Is the Edit feature broke? I spent 5 minutes and 4 tries to edit my #20 but it finally timed out and gave the the middle one.
I was going to say I only boiled a half dozen eggs. Also, I’m not making deviled eggs this time but since I needed to get rid of some eggs I though I’d make egg salad. I like egg salad and haven’t had it in years and I’ve never made it. SO! Who has a good recipe? Of course I can always get one from sister. -
#26 SD – I make that about the same way I make deviled eggs… you know… a little of this and a little of that… til it tastes right AND has the right consistency LOL

This is very similar to the recipe I used when I made “cowboy candy” – and I think it’d work fine to chop the peppers instead of slicing them

#30 Tedtam I’ve never been a jalapeno fan. I know it’s sacrilege in Texas to say that, but…there it is.
I understand completely – I’m a 4th generation Texan and the only way I’ll eat them is in Cowboy Candy – or seeded on nachos… Don’t usually have any sliced ones in the fridge because it’s so long between times we use them that they get so hot that it defrosts the fridge

Serranos are my favorite.
Our MOA is hot today, and the jet jockeys are burning up some kerosene. They are a bit low, and their money to noise converters are rattling the windows. I love the sound of freedom.

FWIW; Before I discovered the Candied Jalapeño’s I chopped up the Cajun Sliced ones and they look just like your “cowboy candy”. That should work fine and be extra special since you made them. 😉

It’s my general observation that Deep South cooks are always trying to slip in a little extra “sweet/surgery” into their recipes.
Westerners are always trying to slip in some “heat” into theirs. -

I glanced at the post but need to go over them again to gleen more detail.
Thanks Super Dave and Bsue I think I have enough to go on for now for Deviled Eggs.
Need to find those Candied Jalapeños or make them like Bsue linked to.
Hope somebody will post a good egg salad recipe too.
By the way Tedham that OC clip is great.
Every American should be required to view that.

We had a brief reference to rain yesterday, as we did get some, 0.09 to be exact. Areas north and east of us got a lot more. The weather guessers are certain there will be more today that might cover us finally. We wait and see. Meantime crops on farms around here wither from the drought, and perhaps a rainfall of 5″ or so and soon might save some of the crops. June usually brings about 5″ over Fort Bend County.

I see the log in complaint has raised its head again. Texpat explained that part of the problem is our spam blocking software and that is true. Trust me we want that protection. I shudder to think what little gifts we would find in the comments.
Another problem is this old green theme. There is code in it that does not play well with the WordPress engine. Correcting that code and still having this theme is way above my pay grade.
I have searched for fixes and there are some possible candidates but we come full circle to my discomfort with tinkering with green theme code. If I break this theme there is no way to get it back. In the WordPress theme choices it has been deprecated. That means it is a battle to get WordPress to install the thing without a whole bunch of weeping wailing and gnashing of teeth.
I would ask your indulgence and patience. There is coming I day when I will have to change themes because this one will just stop working. I have been looking at a build your own theme system that would let me “replicate” this one. The learning curve is not insurmountable by me, but there is bunches for me to understand. I do not want to build something, install it and find I have created more problems than what we have. Thank you for your patience.
One work around that works for me is I log in and leave that tab/window open. That is, I open another window to work or play on the rest of the web, and simply reload the Hambone page to interact with y’all. When. you leave this page to go to another page you are gonna have to log in again. Rule of thumb…… don’t close just minimize Hambone. Open another tab or. window to continue surfing the web.
Thanks

Squawk, I know from my programming days what it’s like to have people request something, not knowing what they are asking for.
One of my last contracting jobs was to generate a report for an EEO audit for a large energy company. The department that hired me had a boss that was a bit of a jerk (I’ll call him Joe), and a second in command lady (I’ll call her Jane).
Joe didn’t realize that programming was as much an art as a science in that when a “flow” was working it shouldn’t be stopped. Jane knew a smidge about the programming language and database – which made her stupidly dangerous. Or dangerously stupid. Either way, Joe would not let me work late one afternoon when I was hot on the trail of solution to a major problem, even though I offered to keep my hours under 40/week by going home early the next day. I practically begged, explaining the situation. Nope, said if I couldn’t get it done in 8 hours a day that was my problem. I ran back to my desk and furiously wrote down note after note trying to describe my chain of thought, hoping I could pick it back up the next day.
Nope. Came in the next morning and it was all cold. Momentum was gone and I had to start over with a solution. I never wanted to kick a boss in the a$$ before, but I was tempted. Sorely tempted. He didn’t realize he probably cost his company money because it took me more billable hours to recreate a solution that I think I was at least halfway to solving. Idjit. Penny wise, pound foolish.
Jane used to come to my cubicle door and yell at me, things like “Just look at the last record!” Which FOCUS could do, one of its tricks I loved to exploit, but the problem was that the “last record” could be an address change and not one of the situations they wanted to report. This was, mind you, the summer that we were at war with the school district over Handsome Son. They actually lost him one day, putting him on the wrong bus. Lovely Daughter was calling me, telling me of her latest award. I was trying to sound cheerful for her, while our advocate was telling me to give the school district hell over my son, and Jane was coming to yell at me. That was a rough, rough, 3 weeks. Finally, we got Handsome’s situation (temporarily) resolved, Lovely was out of school and into her summer routine, and I could focus on my job in between sessions of Jane chewing me out.
Karen, the lady who worked for Joe part time at home told me I should walk out, that I wasn’t being paid to be abused by Joe and Jane, but I was too professional to leave a client like that. Besides, I was going to beat that program problem. It had become personal.
Finally, after 8 weeks or so of blood, sweat, and tears, I delivered the final product, fully quality checked for accuracy. All Joe said was “It’s about time. This should have taken you four weeks!”
I just went back to my cubicle to start packing my things. I called Karen, and asked her if she wanted the program. “Damn right I want it!” she said. “Do you realize you’ve just done in two months what no one in this department has been able to do in 15 years?”
I asked her if she wouldn’t mind telling Jane that. I told here were to find the completely documented program (another trademark of mine – I never “programmed for job security” – all of my programs had almost as much description of the hows and whys of the processes as it contained in code so the next person in line could just pick it up and understand it). She thanked me. I printed off a copy of the program for my personal “programming bible” where I kept my most useful or creative programming code, packed up my personal items, and walked out. I’ve had jobs that I hated to leave, but that wasn’t one of them. The best thing about that job was that I accomplished something that was very difficult, and I took pride in that. Also, that I managed to keep my cool and not slap the ever-lovin’ crap outta Jane.

I told you all that to tell you this – despite all of our belly-aching, we appreciate what you do, though we may not appreciate fully what you do.

Been putting wash out on the line and starting a small Nook storage area and electrical access in my new Hot Water Heater area.
Abux, our beloved founder and former host, Mark, would always give me grief about adding that extra adjective “hot” in front of water heater. He’d always asked why I wanted to heat up water that was already hot. 😉
-
#50 – TexMo… LOL… around here, this time of year, I’m usually running the COLD water to get RID of the HOT water from all those pipes snaking around in the attic… not that it’s been thru the “water heater” – just lounging around in the pipes “up there”
-
I can tell you – for sure, absolutely – when it’s going to rain.
Tomorrow, When Texpat and I head to the airport to return his car and bring him back to Bellville. It will be cats and dogs the entire turnaround trip.
So there. Now you know.
-
#50 – Wow – so you’re meaning a HOT water heater also heats up COLD water too?
Whodda thunk it? 😉
-
I often go days without closing this site.
-
#52 Shannon – you are soooo right… It always amazed me how, when they otherwise would NEVER take the Hardy Toll Rd (I took it EVERY DAY) – just let a wreck on I-45 N screw up the outbound “flow” and all those fair-weather commuters would hop onto the Hardy, and screw up the flow there, as well… And then the weather’d do something really novel, like rain 2″ in 15 minutes, or (Heaven Help Us All) SNOW…

Tedtam
I understand the frustration of log in problems. I really do not mind the “bellyaching” either. Heck most times people want to vent because they are frustrated and the easiest way to break the tension is to listen, respond politely and truthfully.
Trust me, no one wants the problems fixed more than I do. That is not born from other people angst, but more of a male ego pride thing. The larger problem is I AM NOT A PROGRAMMER and to fix what we got takes a programmer. I do have a solution in my pocket but I gotta learn first before I make any changes. When i make the changes I want Hamous 3.0 to work without problems that i generate.
As WordPress progresses things are going to break but technology has advanced to a point where the baby no longer has to be thrown out with the bath water. Good old green theme cannot be upgraded by me and in due time will have to be discarded. The wants of our little group here is familiarity. I have found a solution but I gotta learn (and I am) before I doo be doo be do anything.

Your are both right! It is like saying Ink Pen.
It has become so ingrained in my speech I have never given it a second thought.
I have labeled Blue Prints and read Blue Prints all my life that say Hot Water Heater and it is wrong.
Can’t wait to use this on my Master Plumber Friend.
Speaking of semantics.
I hear 2 phrases in the news a lot that are wrong too.
1.Biden Administration no (it is a regime)
Administration implies a cohesive/competent organization.
2.Democratic Party should be (Democrat)
Democratic implies an attribute
Texmo thanks again for bringing that to my attention.

Whad-ya mean this site can’t scan my retina and automatically log me in? Why? WHY? WHY!?! Whaaaaaaa!!! I’m taking my ball home so y’all can’t play. Call my Dick Tracy communicator once this is all sorted out then I’ll think about coming back… with the ball.
Seriously though I do not have any issues logging in after I get kicked out. Unfortunately I do have a long password, but it is easily remembered. I remember Mark played around with the themes a couple of years ago and we all liked this green theme so he kept it. I recall some of the others were hard on the eyes to read e.g. white backgrounds and no delineation between posts.
-
Thank you Tedtam for explaining how the periodic problem with signing in comes about. Vicious Gremlins. It is no problem for me to put the password back in. I was wondering why it suddenly required it and then would bunce along with everything working for days before the next time it happened. It is a small nuisance, and I am so glad to have the password sitting next to the computer.
That is a small problem compared to the wonderful resurrection you all have made of bringing back Hambone/hamous.net. Thank you a bunch.

Had an early nap since I got up early this morning. It’s warmed up outside, but still bearable as opposed to how it’s been lately. Ant bite stings have subsided, so I may go back out and stir them up again, this time trying to stay a little further away.
May run to the grocery store. Not sure what for yet, but I’ll remember after a while.

Yes of course, HAL 9000 still lurks in the hearts of computer folk.
“I can’t do that, Dave…” -
I stared into the eye of HAL9000 and was scared to the core… I saw the image of a man with a white beard that reminded me of Squawk. If Squawk is HAL and HAL controls the Spy Ducks…

Log In Short Cut
Most phones have an option to create a shortcut for a phrase built into the Keyboard. Much like a Macro in Excel and Word.
I assigned a password macro for this site and when the Log in is required again it already quick fills my user name and the request password is accomplished using the keyboard phone Macro.
I use an Android so I don’t know about Apple.
I haven’t really had a problem with frequent Log Ins though. Mostly I’m logged in all day. Even if I leave the Site and come back.
I did create a WordPress account and it was after that I noticed my log in remained more static.
Could be just a coincidence

#64 Abuck… I don’t know about iPhones because I don’t “do” blog surfing on my phone… but my “trusty” iMac laptop has this handy dandy fingerprint thingy – I just click on the spot to place the p-word, and when my log in name comes up, I touch the magic button… (of course, all that DID require my “recording” my fingerprint on the magic button, long ago and far away….) and it fills in the blanks for me… I don’t know why Squawk was so secretive about Mac’s super abilities for so long – I could have forgotten ALL of my passwords years ago instead of more recently LOL

RE Neti Pots
I used one every spring with just plain Morton Iodized table salt. Burned like hell. After years of doing this, my sister told me you are supposed to use UN-iodized salt. I now use the little pre-made sachets of salt from the drug store specifically for netti pots. The difference is night and day.
-
Texmo
Most people shouldn’t go near iodized salt. There are some people who should use it.
Especially vegans.

I now an careful to take the time to dechlorinate any water that goes up my nose by letting it sit out. I usually boil it, too.

I have a netbook that I haven’t used for years, because I screwed up the installation of Linux on it. I may pull it out and see if I can it straightened out. Reinstall again, since I wiped out the Windows on it. Get used to the software.
It would be great for the trip. Small enough to fit into my (big) purse, and with a keyboard. That, or I’ll take my tablet with the keyboard, but the keyboard doesn’t seem to hold a charge much anymore. I really want to use a keyboard. As a touch typist, using those screen layouts drives me nuts.
-
Don’t need a mechanical one. The neti is going into the trash when this is over.
Never used one in 66 years and not planning on it again.I was a near drowning victim at age three.
I can’t tell you how much I hate this neti thing.
-
A netbook installation of Linux should not be that difficult. I use the Mint version, I think others use Ubuntu. It’s not too difficult, but it does take a while to download, and you do have to follow instructions to install, which also takes some time.
I’m remembering that you have to burn a thumb drive to create a bootable Linux drive to install the thing, but that is pretty well automatic if you follow instructions as well.

I found a recipe for Philly cheesesteak Sloppy Joes – ran down to Fiesta to get bollilos and bell peppers – and they had the bell peppers, 3 for $0.99 – so I got $2.00 worth, and will try out the dehydrator function on the Ninja Foodi… that way, next time we want sloppy joes, I can RE-hydrate green peppers and see how good of a job I did…

what did you use to spray the kudzu with? Or do you have a suggestion for a good sprayer? I have tried the box store pump up pumps only to be mad after about 10 minutes of use.

Katy Mills Mall on I-10 sits about where the old artesian well called the Katy Rice Wells was located down a short dirt road hidden by trees and brush. There was a deep retention pond about a quarter acre large. It fed huge rice fields out there, the highest yielding rice fields in the world. This was in the late 1960s.
The deep artesian well produced delicious cold water for teenaged skinnydippers in the heat of summer. When it had been 100 outside, diving into that cold water was pure pleasure.
That is one of my memories of Katy and its fabulous rice farming. Today, I risked my life driving around Katy. Remember, I’m a skilled NYC/NJ driver and I was intimidated around those maniacs down there. Katy is like another planet to me.

I think everyone drives worse after the Lockdown of 2020. I seriously think everyone should be required to take a defensive driving course to renew their license as a refresher.
Thanks for the 1960s Katy history.
-
#107 TexMo – I, too, think drivers are worse since the lockdown… Granted, it turned my 1.5+ hour commute into a logical 45 minute (sometimes less) drive… But there were people who looked around on I-45 from Conroe south and saw 4-6 other cars on the road with them and just went insane, zipping from lane to lane between cars and scared the be-jeebers out of the paramedic in me… then as more and more cars came back on the road, the early pandemic commuters felt they should still have the right and room to drive like the bats-out-of-hell they HAD been when there were 4-6 cars in their sites… Blessedly, as time went by and less and less people were working from home, not EVERYONE came back at the same time, and then I got to retire at the end of 2020… I’ve been back to Houston a few times – and wonder how I EVER survived commuting to “Big Hermann” daily for something like 14 years… I MUST HAVE BEEN INSANE!!!!

Using your middle name with a first and last name as common as yours does a lot to define your legal identity in this world. The more common your name, the higher the likelihood of identity theft. You should always use all three names on all legal documents.
Just sayin’.

They were big Rice Farmers in Brookshire.

#113 – I was whining about the actual holding-the-pen-mechanics of writing a name I don’t use once in 10,000 times!
Just the 3x initials is easy.
My first / last is a blazingly fast scribble – inserting a legible version of my middle name is slower than a 3 legged cat trying to cover up poop on a frozen lake!

#103 Squawk, I mentioned the other day that I’ve had good luck with Crossbow since Roundup will not kill Kudzu. As far as a sprayer, good luck, I’ve yet to find a good pump-up sprayer but I’m sure SOMEBODY makes them. My sprayer is a 25 gallon job that I put in the back of the Mule. It has a 12 VDC pump and shoots a stream a good 10 feet. I also mentioned that I got the wife a 1 gallon battery powered Bauer sprayer and it seems to be of pretty good quality but it only holds a gallon. This is great for my 100 Lb wife since 1 Gallon of water based anything weighs about 8 lbs not counting the weight of the machine.

You’re just trying to get me riled up, aren’t you?
I’m not her judge – only Jesus can determine her final residence, but here’s how I feel. And there won’t be any surprises.
1. Pelosi excommunicated herself years ago with her pro-abortion stance.
2. Every time she receives the sacrament, she brings condemnation upon herself. That’s not me, that’s what the apostles said.
3. There’s a millstone waiting for her, for misleading others into sin.
4. Her stubbornness in remaining in sin only makes her repentance harder.
5. Her Bishop was mooooore than patient with her sinfulness and attitude; she had plenty of time to hear His message and obey.
6. I have so much to say about this holder of the office of Pope, but by giving her Communion, he also participates in 2,3, and 4.
7. The Pope has just disrespected Archbishop Cordileone. This is typical of Pachapapa, who has NO problem disrespecting, insulting, and bad mouthing anyone who doesn’t toe his party line. He is despicable in how he treats his flock, and even how he treats his bishops. Especially those who believe in traditional Catholic values, like, oh, monogamy, the sacredness of marriage and the marriage act, etc.On one hand, I have utter contempt for Nancy, because I have a pretty good idea of where she’s heading. On the other hand, I have utter sadness for Nancy, because I have a pretty good idea of where she’s heading.
Oh, and that goes for Pachapapa as well.

I’ve mentioned there is another SJ in Bellville. A female 20 years my Junior.
But I have always used my middle initial on most documents, if not the whole thing.

#125 Squawk It does have a SS wand with an adjustable brass nozzle and it is fairly well made. My wife loves hers. I got the 3 Ah battery since I have a saw that can use the same one but the 1 Ah is more than a enough since the 3 Ah one is good for 70 gallons. Also if you notice the picture you can put the wand in the handle and carry it with one hand or use the 4′ hose to stretch out a bit.
One more thing, all the box store pump-up’s are junk! I’ve been through at least 3 in the last 3 years!…..SIGH,…..I’ll pay more for a good one just don’t sell me a POS that the tank will last forever but the hose/wand lasts for a day or so!! -
Folks we are seeing preparations for WW!!!

Yup yhe Baur it is. I just have an acre really just spot treatments. But a lot of spot treatments. Oh and a 5 foot deep ditch that runs some 200 feet. I cannot mow that thing so I am gonna spray it and be done. till the next time it needs done. Bunches of wateroak and junk brush to kill off..

#130 Tedtam – since I got green bell peppers on sale to “experiment” with the dehydration function on the Ninja, and watched a bunch of videos and read directions, I’ll ask you… Do you cut yours in strips or squares? 2.31″ of rain in about an hour, yes! I was just hoping for enough to save the grass but with this much rain I’ll be able to disc the west 40 without so dang much dust. Believe it or not I can disc the west 40 and the Kudzu patch about 3-4 days after the rain since it is so sandy. The turnip patch, no so much the west side of it has too much clay and it will clog up the disc in no time, ask me how I know.
-
Do you cut yours in strips or squares? I saw both recommended…
Strips.
I can cut them smaller if needed. I use strips in lasagna.
Rings take up too much space in the jar. -
#135 Thanx – as usual, I watched more than one video, and each one had a different opinion about how to do what – but not one gave such a logical, rational answer. Thank you

You’re just trying to get me riled up, aren’t you?
What I’m looking for is how the local parishioners feel about this.
I left the Catholic Church 30 years ago after my wife died. The hypocrisy is she could not receive the Sacraments because she was divorced and yet Nancy has no restrictions.
I know if my wife was alive today she would be spitting fire. Pryor to her death we were looking at other churches but she wanted me to at least go through the indoctrination process into the Catholic Faith. I covered this in another post so I won’t rehash it.
It almost seems like the Pope doesn’t care what his subordinates think or even the Parishioners.
It is the same model of The skewing of authority being used to usher In a One World Order in the Politcal Arena world wide.
It saddens me to think this Cancer has infiltrated God’s house.
But so it seems.
