Good morning gangsters and gangsterettes.  Yet another hot day in store, so I’ll be staying in most of the afternoon.  Need to clean out my car this morning before it gets too hot.  Not hearing all that much from the paid thugs hired by the Dems to destroy our cities last night, but I’m sure there should be some mischief out there.  I honestly never thought the SCOTUS would have the cajones to actually do something with R v W, but somehow they did.  Thanks President Trump.  Of course, John Roberts is in a snit since he was unable to be the swing vote which is what he wanted to be, but Trump nixed him out of that position with Barrett.  That’s the best part of all – watching John Roberts floundering around trying to remain relevant.  Now he’s relegated to just being another liberal who from time to time votes with the majority conservatives.

I hope that you all have a great day out there.  More later as it develops.  BTW, love the OC picture today.

I saw something on Taylor Marshall’s channel the other day that just made my jaw drop.

First off, I don’t hate gays. They are people, worthy of respect and dignity as children of God. I have a favorite cousin who is gay, and used to have a confidant at my parish who is gay. But, there are definite boundaries, especially in my Catholic faith, regarding their lifestyle choices.

As I say, “We all have our crosses. Some we are born with, some we give birth to, and others we marry.” Tongue in cheek of course, but it acknowledges the fact that life deals us a hand and we have to deal with the hand we are dealt. My church friend? He dedicated his life to service to God, remaining celibate. He lived in an area with gay friends because he found relief if being with people “who understand me.” But he did not compromise his faith. I admired him for that. “Hate the sin, love the sinner.”

I found the contrast of how he lived his life really brought into focus what I saw happen in a church in Chicago. The priest at this parish brought up a gay male couple to give a homily on Father’s Day, celebrating their relationship and praising the parish for being so gay couple friendly. Afterwards, the priest and congregation gave them an enthusiastic standing ovation.

    So. Much. Wrong.

First off, no one is supposed to give the homily (sermon for our non-Catholic friends) but the priest. No. One.

Second, for a Catholic church to openly promote and praise gay marriage is just…just so wrong. But then, gay is all the rage at the Vatican and this IS a Chicago Catholic parish, so why am I surprised that Scripture and years of doctrine are being thrown out the window?

Third, there should never be clapping during mass. Or even after mass for things about mass. I used to get so perturbed at my old parish that folks would applaud the choir. The choir is not there for our entertainment, they are there to serve God. I hear from a friend in my previous parish that the Spanish mass folks applaud the pastor after his homilies, and he gives a huge smile as he trots back to his chair. That’s pride – one of the seven deadly sins. If there are announcements after mass for anniversaries or birthdays, separate from the mass, then I have no problem with that. But everything in the mass should point to Jesus only. We are there to worship, not be recognized.

Last, I marvel at the lack of catechesis for the whole congregation, who celebrate gay relationships instead of supporting the gays as singles.

I mourn for my Church, and pray we can make it through this mess.

    Coffee & Covid ☙ Saturday, June 25, 2022 ☙ STRATEGIC HOPE

Happy Saturday, C&C! The big news yesterday was the decision overturning Roe, but I’m dividing my comments in half. At the top of the post, I’ll discuss how Roe and covid are tied together. At the very end of the post, I’ll discuss some of the political fallout, which C&C readers who are unhappy about the decision can just skip. I’m asking everyone to be kind in the comments, and remember that persuasion happens through trust and relationship, never through conflict.

Apart from that, I have a packed Minority Report roundup for you today: How covid led to the decision overturning Roe; Ron Johnson asks Birx a tough question and gets a surprising answer; Ukraine democratically deletes its opposition party; Ukraine democratically arrests YouTubers for treason; Biden asks a rhetorical question about Ukraine and I answer; Ecuador is in flames; the Times reports on Lithuania and makes some interesting comments; and final thoughts on the politics of the decision overturning Roe.

    *COVID NEWS AND COMMENTARY*

Protests broke out in the nation’s largest cities yesterday after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in a 6-3 decision, sending the issue of regulation of abortion back to the states. I predicted this would happen last summer after the Supreme Court first declined emergency appellate review of lower-court decisions upholding New York’s various vaccine mandates.

Since some of the conservative justices signed the orders declining review, people asked me if I thought they’d changed sides or defected or something. I answered that I thought the justices were protecting something we don’t know about; they wouldn’t want to rely on bodily integrity rights if they were about to do something big like overturn Roe. Then in January when the court issued its pair of mandate decisions, one supporting the CMS mandate, neither opinion mentioning bodily integrity rights or Roe a single time, I was pretty sure this was coming.

I studied this issue closely when I litigated the mask case through appeal. I won that case — the only appellate case in the country finding mandatory masking presumptively unconstitutional — on the strength of Florida’s explicit right to privacy and medical autonomy, which had been well-developed mostly by abortion cases, particularly the ‘Gainesville Woman Care’ case.

Florida’s constitutional right to privacy is relatively new; it was passed in the 80’s during a nationwide push at the state-level related to Roe. Many states passed bodily integrity laws at that time as a result of the Roe decision and the swirling criticisms about the poor reasoning of that case. Even many pro-choice constitutional scholars agreed that Roe had a shaky foundation, so then, as is happening now, states rushed to pass laws and amend state constitutions to protect those rights.

As a result — quite ironically given the politics — the states best equipped to resist mandates during the pandemic were the ones with the strongest local protections for bodily integrity resulting from the abortion battles of the 70’s and 80’s. It’s funny how things work out.

My theory — as I’ve discussed before — is that Roe would never have been overturned without covid.

Many pro-abortion political groups, which had for decades adorned themselves in the morally-praiseworthy robes of personal bodily autonomy, were exposed as hypocrites when they shredded those values in the name of forcing their friends, co-workers, and neighbors to accept a preferred medical treatment. “My body, my choice” instantly flipped, becoming the right’s ironic new slogan, now effectively weaponized AGAINST Roe.

At that point it was just a matter of time. For how, if bodily autonomy is NOT sacrosanct when it comes to experimental vaccines, can it be of any utility when it comes to other personal autonomy issues like abortion? In other words, the “my body, my choice” argument was neutralized, sacrificed for vaccine mandates, and was shown to be not so much a ‘right’ as a benefit to be whimsically parceled out on a treatment-by-treatment basis at the arbitrary preference of whoever is making the rules at the time.

A thin principle of convenience cannot sustain the massive weight of an implied constitution right; the vaccine mandates ultimately cracked the hard shell of Roe’s implied right of privacy and the entire edifice fell away.

I have no idea how all this will shake out. But make no mistake: this Supreme Court decision is just the latest and the most obvious example of how the government’s pandemic overreach has badly backfired. And the backfiring isn’t done yet — not even close.

    ***************************

This week Senator Ron Johnson — who we recently multiplied — interviewed former Covid Task Force member Deborah Birx in a Senate hearing this week, and finally asked her one of the questions that we would all like answered. Here’s a short transcript and then a link to the video.

SEN. JORDAN: When the government told us that the vaccinated couldn’t transmit it [the virus], was that a lie? Or was that a guess?

DR. BIRX: I think it was /hope/ that the vaccine would work in that way. That’s why I think scientists and public health leaders always have to be at the table, being very clear what we know and what we don’t know…

SEN. JORDAN: This is important for the country to know. So when I asked the question, when the government told us that the vaccinated couldn’t get it, and I asked you if it was a guess or a lie, you said you don’t know, you said you think it was hope. So what we do know is, it wasn’t the truth. So they were either guessing, lying, or hoping, and communicating that information to the citizens of this country.

    https://twitter.com/MarkChangizi/status/1540405939584614400?s=20&t=_pjiHomZw4v3WNj4JAE7SA

    These are the folks who
    – censored us
    – coerced most humans to take the vax
    – fired / banished those who refused
    – were behind lockdowns and masks

Someone once said that hope is not a strategy. But that obscures things; the fact is, when the government said that the vaccinated were protected from catching covid, that was a LIE. You can’t call it anything else. We can argue about the government’s intent, whether it had good intent or malicious intent, whether the lie arose from incompetence or bad faith, whether it meant well or meant to harm, but you can’t argue that the government wasn’t LYING.

And you can’t hide behind “they made a mistake.” First of all, even THEY aren’t claiming to have made a mistake. But even if they WERE just wrong, it was still a lie when they said it. If it was based on error, then it was just an incompetent lie. But, to be honest, it seems less like incompetence because there were other experts at the time who WERE telling the truth, and were either ignored or cancelled.

Another principle that I believe is beyond argument is that a lying government does not deserve to remain in power. It should be removed. Whether it is incompetent or it is malevolent — both justify prompt removal before it can do even more damage.

    Prove me wrong.

    *THE MINORITY REPORT*

Last week, Ukraine’s Ministry of Justice announced an official ban on the country’s main opposition party and seized all its assets. Because democracy. The now-defunct party was the second largest political party in Ukraine, following President Zelensky’s Servant of the People party, which is named after his popular TV series.

    *************************

This week, Ukraine requested extradition of a YouTuber living in Spain on treason charges. He was arrested in May, and EuroWeekly News ran a story on the arrest headlined, “Popular Pro-Russian blogger Anatoly Shariy Detained in Spain.”
    https://twitter.com/KyivIndependent/status/1522123082734972929?s=20&t=1NhqPUztaB17Oju4x4nWGw

The controversial Ukrainian blogger was detained in Spain on May 4, the Security Service of Ukraine said.

Ukrainian authorities suspect Shariy of high treason.

Shariy, a popular Ukrainian YouTuber with 3M followers, was arrested in Spain after Ukraine charged him for “high treason.” Apparently Shariy had been posting videos critical of President Zelensky and his policies.

Ukraine is looking less and less like a shining example of democracy and freedom, and more and more like a dictatorial hellhole.
Given the fact that, if you criticize the government you can get arrested, even if you live in an EU country, apparently, how can we trust that all Ukrainian voices are being heard?

    **************************

Question asked! This week, at a presser on Ukraine, Joe Biden asked these rhetorical questions:

“So for all those Republicans in Congress criticizing me for high gas prices in America, are you now saying we were wrong to support Ukraine? Are you saying we were wrong to stand up to Putin? Are you SAYING that we would rather have lower gas prices in America than Putin’s iron fist in Europe? I don’t believe that.”

Why not? What’s so hard to believe about that? Even if the cause were just, it’s a different thing to ask if we’d help Ukraine to the point of harming ourselves and damaging our economy, maybe for decades, and stumbling to the brink of World War III.

    My answer is: yes.

THE PEOPLE TAKE OVER GOVERNMENT BUILDING

Fuel cost and higher cost of living cause clashes between police and protesters in Ecuador…leading in to the 12th day of unrest…

    /snip

If it wasn’t for social media, you might not have any idea that Ecuador is toppling. Corporate media is concealing what’s going on behind bland headlines like this one from the Washington Post yesterday: “Indigenous Protesters Are Paralyzing Ecuador. Here’s Why.”

Maybe they meant “mostly-peaceful protestors.” WaPo ironically blames the DEMONSTRATORS for food and fuel shortages, reporting that “Demonstrators have marched through Quito, clashed with police and blocked highways across the country, causing shortages of food and fuel.”

    Please.

Remember: the covid experts caused this with their lockdowns. But the big question is: are Sri Lanka and Ecuador evidence of some kind of trend? Are they falling dominoes or outliers? Next, surely all the major powers are preparing to install puppet governments once the dust clears. Will China and Russia allow the U.S. to take the lead?

    ***********************

The New York Times gave its take on the Lithuanian crisis yesterday,
in an article it advertised on Twitter like this:

“Russia made unfounded claims that Lithuania, a NATO member, was choking off the flow of goods to Kaliningrad as part of sanctions over the Ukraine war. ‘Nobody wanted or expected any of this,’ said the chairman of Lithuania’s defense and security committee.”

Unfounded claims? What? The Times ran the story under this innocuous-sounding headline: “A Sleepy Baltic Rail Line Gets a Geopolitical Wakeup Call.” The headline makes the dispute sound like a contractual argument over the cost per pound to ship raw steel or something. Still, the article more or less gets into the details of the conflict, and makes some interesting comments, including this one:

“On Wednesday, Lithuanian ministers and legislators gathered in a secure underground conference room to game out possible Russian responses and discuss how the dry minutia of European sanctions had set off a rush of unintended and possibly dangerous consequences.”

A rush of unintended and possibly dangerous consequences? You mean, in other words, they recklessly failed to think through the sanctions and now a lot of bad stuff is happening?
But… but… they are experts! How could this happen?

The Times’ article explains that the experts now think Russia already used up most of its conventional weapons in its Ukrainian invasion. So now, it has extremely limited military options regarding Lithuania, besides making empty threats. “We are tracking what they do, not what they say,” a NATO colonel told the Times.

Having dismissed the threat of actual Russian action against Ukraine, the Times then reported that NATO and the U.S. have been sending soldiers to Lithuania: “The United States… has boosted NATO forces in Lithuania, with around 700 American soldiers now on rotation in the country to supplement a regular contingent of 1,150 German, 250 Dutch and 200 Norwegian troops.”

So which is it? Are the Russians toothless, having used up all their conventional arms in Ukraine? Or IS THERE a real military threat, that requires OUR troops deployed to Lithuania? The Times doesn’t explain.

It’s getting harder and harder to find a coherent story, even within the same newspaper article. I THINK this is a sign that the narrative is about to collapse. We’ll see.

    ️ *POST-ROE PANDEMIC POLITICS* ️

(Trigger warning for my pro-Roe friends!)

For my entire adult life, for as long as I can remember, abortion rights have been political footballs in every single presidential race. Every time, the democrats darkly predict that the Republican candidate “will overturn Roe!” It’s never happened, at least, not until now, and under a democrat, to boot.

There were two sine qua non for the decision: the pandemic and President Trump.

You have to hand it to President Trump. He’s delivered the ultimate prize from his massive campaign promise to appoint pro-life judges to the Supreme Court. Trump may now hold the record for fulfilled promises, especially in contrast with so many others like Biden, who has repeatedly ‘pivoted’ and delivered the EXACT OPPOSITE of what he promised as a candidate.

Roe’s original holding on privacy and bodily integrity will disappear. Sure, the states will all grapple with the issue, since the Supreme Court has said it’s up to them. But the one thing they won’t do is reproduce Roe’s holding, because it interferes with mandatory vaccination. So the beloved law will be killed, not by conservatives, but by blue-state liberals who claimed to treasure it.

I predict the blue states will pass laws specifically guaranteeing abortion rights but won’t wade into the lofty ideals of integrity of a woman’s body, or even get anywhere close to that. After all, what is a woman anyway? For woke leftists, ‘values’ are merely tools of convenience, to be discarded when they are no longer useful, like the cheap screwdriver that comes in the box with the assemble-it-yourself tricycle.

And since they’re not principled, and can’t hide behind the constitution, those laws will be changed and chipped-away by sustained local activism.

The next thing to consider is the downstream effect. There are a lot of laws, like gay marriage and striking down of anti-sodomy laws, that depended on Roe. Expect challenges to begin as various lawsuits start challenging Roe’s orphaned children.

Yesterday was a great day for life! Maybe there’s something to this “post-pandemic revival” theory, after all. I told you things would get really interesting.

Taylor Marshall had an interesting comment about the Roe decision yesterday:

“If you are possessed by a demon, you are having a bad day. The demons are having a bad day. They thought they had Roe locked up.”

So, those possessed by evil are having a really bad day. Watching some of the pro-abortionist protestors, I can see the evil. It’s blatant. Watching that lady stomp those baby dolls in front of a cheering crowd turned my stomach. That was evil.

A commenter on that post said she’d had an abortion, was really confused about it but was peer-pressured into it, and regrets it to this day and mourns that lost child. She said that for years she was one of those screaming pro-aborts, taking her anger out on the pro-lifers. She suggested that we pray for those women, as many of them are post-abortion sufferers, who don’t know what to do with their emotions and can’t admit to themselves what they’ve done.

I think both of them are right.

Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately, the rot in my church comes from the head. This Pope has enthusiastically shut down convents, monasteries, and has forced acceptance of heresy on numberous bishops and priests. He embraces the gay theology of his bestie, Fr. James Martin, who wants gay marriages celebrated in the Church. As a matter of fact, there have been several pseudo-marriages of this type and the Pope has done nothing to those priests. One of the latest was in Italy, where a gay couple got their civil marriage at the courthouse and walked across the street to a Catholic Church, where a “blessing mass” was held for their union. It was a nuptial ceremony except that they didn’t use the word “matrimony”. None of those bishops or priests have been sanctioned, corrected, nor punished.

He has violated the charters of more than a few traditional orders, or attempted to, by forcing them to do things that go against their core values of their founding. He is a tyrant and many think he is forming the “ape of the church” that we’ve been warned about.

There are many Catholics, myself included, who are refusing to send money for Peter’s Pence, which has become a slush fund for the Vatican to abuse and misuse, nor to our bishops who cowtow to this heretic. Well, I can’t call him a heretic, only the College of Cardinals can make that determination, but they won’t because so man of them are cut from the same cloth as Francis.

Many years ago, forces of evil infiltrated the Church by contaminating the seminaries with tons of homosexual priests, which would normally have been screened out. Currently there are a ton of scandals about bishops using young seminarians as their sex toys, and kicking out those future priests who don’t want to be corrupted. Those that stay can be blackmailed, or be used. I don’t have the link right off hand, but there was a public revelation of this plan by a woman involved in the scheme. I want to say her name was Dodd, but I’m probably confusing her with the big court case. Taylor Marshall wrote a book, “Infiltration,” which describes all of this. He provides the documentation as well.

I just keep believing that Jesus will sort this all out at some point. I pray for my Church daily. Jesus promised that the Gates of Hell would not prevail, but he never promised us perfect leaders, or even good ones. Just Him.

My Step Dad in Ohio owned a Sewer Contracting company and he would start all us on a Backhoe at 6 years old. We could work the joy sticks but could not reach any of the pedals. He said when we got older he would make operators out us. Never got that far. Close as we got, was filling and putting out smudge pots at night and greasing the equipment.  Mom traded him in for another model, so half the boys went with him and my brother and I with Mother. I learned just enough on a backhoe to be dangerous. I could get the job done but it wasn’t pretty.

My younger Step Brother would go on to buy he business from Step Dad and work it until his back gave out.

Step Dad and I remained friends all the way to the end of his life 2 years ago.

    He taught us a lot.

Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately, the rot in my church comes from the head.

Wife 3.0 was converting me to Catholicism before her death from Breast Cancer. I remained in the RCIOA program until completion 6 months later. We used to go to Saint John Vianney in Memorial.  My wife could not receive the host because of the divorce that was not of her doing. She remained in the church hoping things would get better.  They did not.

I completed the Catholic, one year indoctrination process but was told the only way I could join the Church would be to send $14,000.00 to the Pope and have my previous marriages annulled.

I became a Baptist for free!

Good morning gang.  It’s Sunday, but that does not mean that the heat is showing any signs of letting up.  No TOK diversions today, so I have to prepare and drink my own dam coffee, which is OK I guess.  I’m planning to clean out my car today – got the shop vac out and everything.  Going to try to get to it early before it gets too hot.

CWS baseball at 2PM today.  Ole Miss rolled over OU yesterday with ease, including one back to back to back homer series which will certainly leave a mark on the OU pitching staff and coaches.  I expect OU to fold up like a cheap suit today, but I’ll watch a little of it anyway.  Of course, in college baseball, no lead is safe until the final out is recorded.

To all our friends here on the couch who are suffering physical and/or emotional pain, just know that’s what we are here for and all about.  Each of us can help carry just a little bit of that burden for you.  We’re not getting any younger, and we all need to take care of ourselves health wise, both physically and mentally, and we can help each other there too.  Just thought I’d get that out there since it’s on my mind this morning.  I hope that all of you have a great day, and more later as it develops.

Dr. McCullough has written about the importance of oral rinses and gargling with a dilution of Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide early in the infection.

Funny……After hearing the doctor on the Berry podcast, I ordered some from Amazon just to keep around.
It is to be delivered today.

Over in Ghana, before there was a vaxx, medical personnel used the peroxide oral/nasal rinse as a preventative and not one of them caught the Covid.

McCullough also encourages doing nasal flushes with the same product.

Buy the 3% version of the product and use a 50/50 dilution.

We were discussing battery sprayers a while back starting with Shannon’s Ryobi. I thought about getting one for my wife to use attacking Poison Ivy and GJT mentioned that hs’d only have to get the sprayer since he already had several batteries so the light came on. My wife has a 12″ Stihl chain saw, weed whacker and leaf blower that use the same 2 AH battery so she has three of them so I went to the Stihl website and looked for a sprayer but the only one they had was a professional job with a different expen$ive battery, 7.2 AH, $250 bucks and that didn’t include the sprayer! I can’t believe that they don’t make a model in homeowner series I’d think they’d sell a bunch of them.
SO! To make a short story long I went to amazon and bought a sprayer with a built in battery for $65 bucks, free shipping. It arrived on Thursday and even though the quality was good SS/brass wand, heavy plastic bucket, it had been repackaged. It had heavy shipping tape on the box but had strips of Scotch tape underneath, red flags go off and then a knob was missing so I sent the damn thing back. On Friday I had to go to Enterprise to drop it off at UPS so I meandered over to Harbor Freight. They had a Bauer 1 gallon sprayer with a telescoping SS wand, brass fittings and a choice of 1,2 and 3 AH batteries, (it doesn’t come with a battery) for $60 bucks. I could have got a 1 AH battery for $30 but chose the 2 AH for $45 since it’ll fit my Skill Saw. So I spent a little over a hundred bucks and the wife is happy.

The group from my old parish, the ones that keep in touch and share prayer requests and info, call ourselves the Carmel Lights. (The Carmelite order founded the parish.)

One of the Carmel Lights has a son who’s a firefighter, and she reported that Sacco’s burned yesterday. Sacco’s is THE Catholic store in Houston. Not the only one, but the biggest and oldest. They not only supplied books, rosaries, and statues, but I would go there to buy rosary making supplies. They supplied vestments and altar items used in mass. I saw boxes of palms that were being supplied to parishes for Palm Sunday. If it was Catholic, they sold it. Saccos was THE place to go to buy anything Catholic.

I don’t know yet if it was arson, but I can certainly see some crazy pro-baby killer burning it since the churches were probably being protected. But who thinks about the Catholic stores?

In my #61 I mentioned my Bauer Battery Powered Skill Saw. I love that thing, smooth as silk and high RPM. I purchased it several months ago to build my target frame at the pond. I really wanted a Milwaukee but saw, battery and charger was $450. I generally but quality tools but I couldn’t see spending that much far a saw I’d use a couple of times a year. When I noticed that the saw was $60 Bucks I thought dang yes but no battery or charger,…SO. Saw $60, battery $45, charger $30, and blade $12. That’s right at $150 Bucks OTD but it was money well spent. FWIW; I could have got the Bauer blade for $8 but choose a Diablo for $12 because they make better blades. 😉

    Made me LOL.

Mary and Joseph both have the title “Terror of Demons”. Exorcists often tell that when the demon/s being exorcised start complaining about “her” or “the woman” – because they hate to say her name, it hurts them – the exorcism is about over. Mary shows up and kicks their butt.

It all goes back to Genesis “…and she will strike at your head”. Jesus gave his Momma power over the demons.

So, this coffee mug just cracks me up.

The New Testament assumes a missionary situation in which the Church is a small evangelizing movement in a pagan society. – Leslie Newbigin

Once the “it is finished” message is the song that runs in the background of your life, then the disciplines of the Christian life will breathe with life and joy. It’s not moral progress that makes you a Christian, but God’s love. Start then by resting in God’s approval of you. This is your new identity. I needed a COVID test, but if you look online it looks as though there are none to be found anywhere in town. So I made an appointment to get one a the CVS. When I get there, there’s a sign on the door saying they have them available at the register.

So I go to the register and ask. They had a few different one for about $10 per test. So I asked for two of them. Then I see another sign saying you can likely use your healthcare plan for them, so I ask. Dude said for that you gotta go back to the pharmacy. Off I went.

I ask the pharmacist who said they can indeed use health insurance for those so I asked for a couple. After they call BCBS, the tech comes back and says they only pay if I get 5(!). Alrighty, gimme 5 then.

I go to pay, expecting to pay like $15-20 for them. The register shows no charge(!).

Go figure. I could pay $20 for two or nothing for 5.

What is a good product to spray on Poison Ivy?

Cross Bow is the best I’ve found, it’ll kill Kudzu, Round-Up will not. It’s expensive, $66 a gallon but that mix out to 100 gallons, enough to fill my big sprayer tank 4 times. That said you can get it in pint containers but I’ve not priced that.

But I’m locked into Dewalt 20V tools right now and a little bit leary about introducing another battery type.

I understand, I was locked into Dewalt NiCads for a long time until I switched to Ridgid L-Ion. I’m guessing that Dewalt uses L-Ions now. Dewalt is a fine tool but I think Ridgid is a little better and Milwaukee the best. Big Mike uses Milwaukee exclusively. Good Sunday morning Hamsters,

This morning’s 6am low here was 70, and I had to check it several times to make sure I wasn’t seeing things. Just checked it now and it was reading 90. Wow. And of course, when you look out the window the scene is tranquil and could easily be a springtime day. Of course it isn’t. It isn’t supposed to be this hot in June, so we wonder how miserable July and August will be.

Our internet service had a problem two days ago and was offline for bigtime repairs. It didn’t come back until sometime last evening. Hambone v2.0 wasn’t available yesterday or the late afternoon the day before. Felt so isolated without it.

The Roe v. Wade opinion from the 6-3 Supremes was as it should have been when the tenuous approval it received was originally overstepping the Constitution. Those who pushed it legally should have known or refused to acknowledge that it was the province of the States to accept or reject it, not the Feds. The current ruling gives notice of several other laws that require examination for having also overstepped the power of the States. Thank you, Mr.Trump, well done with your selection of Supreme Court nominations. You can hear the great roaring of teeth gnashing coming from the lefty Dems.

That’s simple, as long as a test is provided positives, true or false will be reported as positive,….SIGH…. It’s all about control doncha’ know AND the mid-terms are coming up.
FWIW; I’ve not been tested and I don’t plan to get tested. Back when I had the COVID, February 2020, it was a real new thing and with all the scare tactics already being talked about I decided that there was NO WAY I’d tell a doctor about it unless I was dying. I just took aspirin every 4 hours to keep my fever below 100 and toughed it out for a week. The highest my fever got to was 101.9 and that was before I started with the aspirin. I/we haven’t got the jab either I figure I’m immune and since the wife is the only one in the family that hasn’t had the dreaded disease, we’ll just play it by ear. Too many problems reported about the vaccine and we’re both real healthy. BUT to each his own, anybody that got the jab or is still thinking about getting it, go for it, it’s personal decision that requires you to see if your known health condition might require it.

Its been said here before that the best way not to show positive for COVID is to not be tested for COVID. I figure I’ve had it at least once. This thing is following the track of the Spanish Flu. That one kept having variants, each on more contagious, but less virulent. No vaccines or treatments ever existed for it, it just died out as more people caught less lethal strains and became immune. I got the jab early on, mostly to please the woman in my life. When people who had been jabbed caught the damting, I knew I’d not get another one.

Spouse picked up 5 test packages of Floflex Clovid-19 Antigen Home Test at the Randall’s pharmacy on 359 yesterday as we’d almost gone through the stock we had. This brand gives you instant results and was not free. Much better than having to send it in for the results.

He tested positive on Wednesday morning and I tested negative that morning, but today I also tested positive and he was still positive but feeling better. I had some symptoms of it a couple of days ago, not all at once but slowly adding more symptoms to the pile. Brain fog seems to be the most inconvenient, but so is essential loss of appetite, and when you are a little hungry, the food doesn’t taste right. Also fatigue gets worse as it progresses (or at least for us).

Fortunately I had stocked up on canned and frozen foods and plenty of things to drink besides milk and orange juice. A&W Diet root beer tastes like real root beer and so far is the best thing for me and spouse. Iced tea is also good. If it wasn’t for Blue Bell ice cream I would not be eating much at all.

Something along the lines of 60 – 70 watermelons  donated by some generous farmer in Hempstead + a refrigerated truck to haul them.
We enjoyed gloriously yummy watermelon slices at each meal.

Hey GramPaw, What’s fer supper? Well my sister, brought over some fresh butter beans and okra from the farmers market along with a small rotisserie fryer from Publix. So while the womenfolks went over to clean up around my grandpaw N grandmaw’s grave at Hopefull church, I put the butter beans on and fried up the okra in cornmeal, started the rice with chicken broth and when it all came together I put some store boughten rolls in the oven. Dang we had a feast. Nothing like a good old southern meal even if we did cheat a little with the fryer….Did I tell you that Life was Good in my World? 😉

That is what my Huntin’ buddy says if somebody spills a beer. 😀

#115 SD – sounds like a wonderful meal, and a little of that kind of cheating is probably something that made ya’ll able to relax and visit instead of… you know…not cheating with a fryer… We’re having jambalaya – starts with mix from the Cajun Spoon… and ends with happy cooks, tickled tongues and full bellies… and not a lot of leftovers, which is a good thing too

Katfish, I’m glad those little kids had big kids to play with. Sounds like a blast.

As for cooking, tonight we had CORN – Clean Out The Refrigerator Night.

Clean energy is all well and good until it cuts through your backyard. A bunch of Mainers have the case of the NIMBYs.

Also, “Mainers want to protect its environment and way of life,” Howard told CNBC. If the power line were to be constructed, “there would be a dramatic impact to Maine’s natural resources, scenic character, economic impact to Maine’s four-season recreational tourism industry,” she said.

I raked up 2 big bags of magnolia tree leaves, so I’d have something I could point to for accomplishment today.  Of course, I also did all that lawn watering yesterday, and in fact the grass does look happier today. Now it needs to be mowed (sad face).

    Hey GramPaw, What’s fer supper?

Super Dave your dinners always look so good!

Any chance you can share how you make your Deviled Eggs with candied Jalapeños.

We have a Lady in our Sunday School class that makes the best Deviled Eggs and I always hurt myself when she brings them.

I just came in from the garden. Tied up some sagging plants and killed some juvenile leaf footed bugs that got away from me the other day. The air feels different out there; maybe we will get some rain.

I separated the two water bowls. Junior likes to hang out for long periods of time by the water, and it keeps the bluejays and cardinals from getting their baths and hydration. I’m hoping the distance will allow all of the fowl to enjoy the water, especially during this heat. And keep them away from my tomatoes.

Speaking of hydration, I’m going to have to drench myself in Off! every time I go out there. I’m a bug magnet, and I can feel every bite of those bloodsuckers on me right now. If we get any rain, it’s just going to get worse.

Oh, and Hubby gave me the green light to go on a pilgrimage tour with Fr. Felix in October. I worry about our tax returns (still trying to get the late ones filed) and finances, etc., but he said that it’s a chance I may never have again and I should go for it.

The price is pretty good – the price per person was locked in some months ago, and it’s good until July 5th, so my window is closing. We had a meeting today about the overseas Wuhan Flu concerns and such, and it sounds like we’ll be okay. The restrictions have been relaxed or removed, and no one is required to get the jab. All of us in the room were adamant about that. I’ll be bringing the Ivermectin that I have, just in case.

The lady helping to put it together runs a creative literacy/writing program, and there is an adult track. I told her that I dabble a bit, and want to eventually publish a devotional of sorts. She liked the idea as I explained it to her, and said that she’d look over a submission and talk to me for free – once. She does get paid for what she does, after all. It’s her living. But since I’m a Catholic and part of her parish, she’ll give me a freebie. Nice.

The tour will include the Vatican (just don’t get me near Francis, or I may embarrass the group), San Gandolfo, Siena, Florence, Rome, and the Tuscany area. We’ll be looking at art and journaling and writing to unpack what we experience. It’ll be a group no larger than 30, which means we’ll get to know each other a bit. Our pastor is coming with us, so we’ll get mass every day and confessions throughout the trip.

    RE: Yeller Squash

I have one baby yeller squash coming along – slowly. For dinner tonight I sliced and sauteed one of my white squash. I much prefer the texture and flavor of the white scallop squashes, and I am pleased that I have one more in the frig and one on the vine.

If I can keep the borers from taking it out. Dang bugs from hell.

Buck seventy five, I’ll tell you about my Deviled Eggs with candied Jalapeños recipe in the morning but it’s nothing special, just made with candied Jalapeños instead of Bread N Butter pickles.

Yeller Squash; The best way to cook it is to slice it up with a medium onion and fry it up in P-Nut oil in a cast iron skillet. I fried up some a week ago. That said; you can slice the big ones, batter them with cornmeal and fry em. Growing up, my mom would get the first batch, (tiny ones) out of the garden and bake them whole in the oven with a cheese sauce and dang they were good also.

My #129, When daughter was in FFA they often had Pot-Luck suppers and the first time I brought fried yeller squash n onions. The ladies there had a fit and asked me what my recipe was? Recipe?! I don’t have a recipe, just slice em up and fry em in P-Nut oil. 😉

    Good morning Hamsters,

Today is supposed to be rainy, and here all we have are high clouds/overcast. Rain is desperately needed here. Tried having kitty Purrscilla do a rain dance, that did not bring any rain but instead a dizzy cat after her performance. She was beautiful. Now she’s napping, probably well into the afternoon. Extra treats for her today for all the effort.

Have only glanced at the Chron so far other than reading the headlines and looking at the pictures. It seems the expected frenzy on the abortion side is indeed there and growing, whereas the pro-life folks mostly are discussing something of great importance is to at last be celebrated.

Kudos to President Biden for righting a 50-year-old wrong that had allowed sacrificing human babies to the whims of women and men with little regard for the sanctity of life. He shall have cheers and jeers as a result. He is up to weathering such a situation.
