Branding Time at the 6666 Ranch about 1910 or 1911. It was all hands time at the roundup.
Burk Burnett came to Texas from Missouri, where he was born in 1849. In the late 1860s, he went to work as a cowboy on a trail drive up the Chisholm Trail to Kansas. The following year, encouraged by the experience, he headed up his own herd, losing most of the working horse herd to raiding Indians. So the cowboys made do with what they had, eventually driving the cows to market. Burnett was further encouraged by the limited success, despite the hardships of the trail drive and decided to try his hand at ranching, as opposed to cowboying.
He put together his first property near present day Wichita Falls, Texas, extending his holdings by leasing land in Oklahoma just across the Red River. Burnett built the core of his initial holdings while Indians still inhabited and controlled large amounts of grass land south of the Red River. Burnett was able to work out arrangements with some of them. The ranching business flourished, aided by the truce that Burnett and other large land holders like W. T. Waggoner had worked out with the Comanche and other tribes.

I’m sure you’ve heard that the lying Redhead, spokes-hole for Biden, is leaving to lie for PMSNBC.
It appears that Jen Psaki is tired of lying to protect the Biden administration.
Psaki is reportedly set to leave her position as White House Press Secretary.
Instead of spreading misinformation from the White House podium, she’ll soon be doing it at the struggling left-wing network MSNBC.
Psaki has frequently come under fire for her statements during press conferences at the White House. She recently refused to provide answers to alarming questions surrounding Joe Biden’s son Hunter after the contents of his laptop were authenticated.
“I think we’re done here,” Psaki said before ending the press conference and rushing off stage.
Psaki was also accused of lying about inflation and all-time high gas prices under Biden by spinning the narrative to blame Russia.

John McClain, long time NFL beat writer and Pro Football Hall of Famer is retiring from the Houston Chronicle after 47 years. I always enjoyed reading McClain and listening to him on the local sports shows going back to the Oiler days.

Wow the world is coming to an end. Like you I have followed John since the Oilers days. Bummer. There is no one that does football like McClain

Coffee & Covid ☙ Saturday, April 2, 2022 ☙ RUBLES FOR GOLD
Good morning and Happy Saturday, C&C! It’s a beautiful spring morning in Florida, equal parts cool and sunny. It’s a great time to visit if you need a freedom injection, which is a much better injection than those other injections.
In today’s roundup, we observe: drama-specialist Will Smith dramatically resigns from the Academy to no effect; Vanity Fair exposes government-fueled attacks on Wuhan-lab theory proponents; New York courts strike down democrat redistricting and mask mandates but New York appellate courts rescue them; NYC re-extends toddler masking; Republicans expose CDC politics; Psaki gets a new gig; DOJ seeks to hire scores of new attorneys for scores of new J6 prosecutions; the WHO reports crippling vaccine-induced tinnitus; Russian sanctions don’t seem to be working out very well for Biden; China appears to be helping Russian invade Ukraine; and the best link of the month.

*COVID NEWS AND COMMENTARY*
According to the Hollywood Reporter, after hysterically slapping Chris Rock in the face at Pfizer’s Academy Awards show, thespian Will Smith dramatically resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences this week. Poor Will! This probably means he’s going to have to give that award back, right? You can’t reward that kind of bad behavior by giving it an Oscar, can you?Yes you can! The Reporter explained that “Smith’s resignation only means he can no longer vote for the Oscars. He can still be nominated for Academy Awards, attend future ceremonies and keep the statue he won.” That little Oscar is a pro-violence statue, I guess. Maybe Pfizer should buy a rage-management drug next.
Meanwhile, according to yesterday’s article in the New York Daily News, “Chris Rock Discourages Fan From Cursing Out Will Smith at Stand-Up Show.” Apparently Will Smith needs Chris Rock to defend him. Comedian Rock was doing standup at The Wilbur in Boston Thursday, when a fan shouted “f—k Will Smith!” and Rock cut him off. “No, no, no, no, no…” said Rock.
Commenting on the event — briefly — Rock only told his audience that “I don’t have a bunch of s— about what happened. So if you came to hear that, I have like a whole show I wrote before this weekend. And I’m still kind of processing what happened.” So, no comment. On the biggest celebrity news of the decade, or something. Okay.
If it WAS a fake slap fueled by Pfizer marketing bucks, I’m starting to think they didn’t plan their little story out far enough. What they really need next is a spectacular reunion and apology video, where the two men make up on camera. Maybe Will could let Chris slap him back or something, after which Chris would dramatically forgive Will, and Will would tearfully confess he’s taking an anger-management course. That would be exciting. And then the video could end with a link to Pfizer’s alopecia web page.
What do YOU think should be in the Smith-Rock reunion-apology video? Leave your suggestions in the comments.

Vanity Fair published a blockbuster expose late this week after reviewing over 100,000 documents and interviewing more than 30 people about the effort starting in early 2020 to squash the Wuhan lab-leak theory. Apparently — and this is going to shock you to your core — EcoHealth Alliance and Peter Daszak led a heroic behind-the-scenes effort to discredit every single scientist who thought Covid might have come out of the WIV, and label the theory as “misinformation.”See, this is the problem with the whole “misinformation” deal. Once you let the “misinformation” genie out of the bottle, anyone can use it to slander anybody they don’t like. It doesn’t matter whether the information is true or not, don’t be ridiculous. It only matters if you can make the charge stick. Which the NIH and Daszak quite effectively did, long enough to dissipate all the perfectly legitimate anger toward China and the U.S. agencies responsible for this pandemic. Racism! Misinformation!
Verminous plague-doctor Anthony Fauci was in it up to his wormy little neck, too. Tick-tock, doctor.

⚖️ Yesterday, a New York court rejected a Democrat-drawn redistricting map and ordered the majority party to work with Republicans on a new one after determining it had been illegally gerrymandered. “The court finds by clear evidence and beyond a reasonable doubt that the congressional map was unconstitutionally drawn with political bias,” Judge McAllister wrote. The Court ordered the Democrat majority to create new “bipartisanly supported maps” by April 11th. But most political observers think that Democrats will just appeal the case to a more “sympathetic” appellate court.
***************************
New Yorkers got a brief taste of freedom yesterday after a judge found the state’s school mask mandate to be unconstitutional, arbitrary, capricious, and unreasonable, and enjoined it. Shortly thereafter, an appellate court stayed the unmasking decision, so masks were back on again. I guess the appellate court was more “sympathetic” to the democrat-controlled government’s arguments.
Meanwhile, NYC Mayor Eric Adams announced yesterday that, despite announcing before the State of the Union that the hated mask mandate was ending, the city will continue its mask mandate on kids under five after all, due to a “slight uptick” in cases in the city.
“We’re seeing a slight uptick and we want to be prepared, not panic. That’s the theme, what we’re doing here New Yorkers. We want to be prepared, not panic,” Mayor Adams said. Preparation. I guess he’s a Boy Scout.
New York City’s health officials recommended that all New Yorkers wear masks in all indoor settings. New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Ashwin Vasan said “This afternoon, we’re asking for a bit more patience and a bit of grace. Cases are definitely rising, and its gotten our attention. They will continue to rise over the next few weeks, and it’s likely that over three weeks, we will rise to a different level of overall risk.”
A seasonal increase in cases is 100% predictable.
There is no evidence that New York’s mask mandates reduced cases or hospitalizations. How big of a slight uptick are they seeing? The uptick Commissioner Vasan referred to is up to about 13 hospitalizations a day, in a city of 8 million people. So it sure looks like NYC is chasing Covid-zero. Good luck with that!

Fox News ran an article last week headlined, “Republicans Expose ‘Uncommon’ CDC, Teachers’ Union Ties on COVID School Reopening Guidance in Report.”
According to a CDC official, despite the CDC’s “past practice to keep draft guidance confidential,” and despite the agency’s earlier claims that coordination with political groups like teachers’ unions was routine and nonpolitical, the CDC coordinated with teachers’ unions in a non-routine and completely political “extraordinary level” in drafting its school reopening guidance.
The interim report from the Republican-led House subcommittee said the “cozy relationship” between the teachers’ unions and the Biden administration’s political leaders at the CDC granted the unions the ability to impose line-by-line edits on the “scientific” reopening guidelines. But the CDC refuses to discuss its political coordination in its “scientific” process. “When Republican staff asked Dr. Walke questions to that effect, a Biden Administration lawyer instructed him not to answer,” the report says. “Because lawyers for the Biden Administration prevented a key witness from explaining why the CDC allowed AFT to write key portions of its guidance for re-opening schools, there are still several unanswered questions. This matter should be investigated further.”
Steve Scalise, the Republican subcommittee leader, said “America’s children are suffering, academically and mentally, because of the Biden Administration enabled school closures. Republicans will not rest until we uncover all the facts and hold everyone accountable who was involved in holding back millions of children from having equal opportunity to achieve the American Dream.”
We can hope.
*****************
Freckled White House spokeslady Jen Psaki announced late this week that she is hanging up her microphone for good and decamping from her job at the Biden Administration. But don’t worry! She’s already landed a sweet new gig with mephitic news network MSNBC, where you can watch her anytime you want, assuming of course that you are clinically insane.
*********************
Biden’s newest budget includes a request for $34 million so the Department of Justice can hire 131 more lawyers to work full time on January 6th prosecutions. Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco explained that the January 6th investigation is “among the most wide-ranging and most complex that this department has ever undertaken.” You don’t say.
Deputy General Monaco promised that “regardless of whatever resources we seek or get, let’s be very, very clear: We are going to continue to do those cases. We are going to hold those perpetrators accountable, no matter where the facts lead us, and as the attorney general [Merrick Garland] has said, no matter at what level. We will do those cases.”
Okay, fine, let’s be very, very clear. When thousands of leftist activists attacked federal buildings in 2020 and burned police stations with cops still inside, the feds said, “meh” and didn’t follow the facts like pallets of bricks that had been coincidentally left lying around or videos showing unmarked vans dropping off rabble-rousers. They didn’t hold THOSE perpetrators accountable, no matter at what level.
So that is pretty clear. Now the Biden Administration is escalating its war against conservatives and the Republican party, seeking to hire enough new attorneys to handle tens of thousands of additional prosecutions. But who will all these new defendants be? There weren’t anywhere near that many people inside the Capitol on January 6th. Who do you suppose Biden has in mind?

On Friday, the National Post ran a story headlined, “WHO: Pfizer Vaccine Potentially Linked to Hearing Loss.” Uh-oh. That can’t be good for business.According to the post, the World Health Organization has published a report citing “extremely rare” instances of hearing loss and other auditory issues following injection of the safe and effective mRNA vaccines. The article quotes Dr. Gregory Poland, director of the Mayo Clinic’s Vaccine Research Group in Rochester, Minnesota, who says he himself developed severe tinnitus after getting his second jab.
“It was like someone suddenly blew a dog whistle in my ear,” Dr. Poland told MedPage Today. “It has been pretty much unrelenting.”
It’s not just a little occasional odd noise or tingling sensation, either. Dr. Poland explained that he “can only begin to estimate the number of times I just want to scream because I can’t get rid of the noise or how many hours of sleep I’ve lost,” he said. The noise he hears is “particularly loud at night when there are no masking sounds.”
Poland, a vaccinologist, says he STILL believes in the importance of getting the shots, in spite of his life altering side-effect. He said — and I am not making this up — because of his fear of contracting Covid and spreading it to his patients, he decided to get the booster shot. Of course. Makes perfect sense.
Dr. Poland also says he’s not the only one suffering from the “extremely rare” side effect. “What has been heartbreaking about this, as a seasoned physician, are the emails I get from people that, this has affected their life so badly, they have told me they are going to take their own life,” Dr. Poland said.
These poor folks are suicidal because of the jab. Oh well. Nothing to see here.
According to the WHO researchers’ findings, people who reported vaccine-induced tinnitus ranged in age from 19 to 93, and 63% of the cases were women. Vaccine-induced tinnitus was recorded in 27 countries including the United States, the United Kingdom and Italy. Pfizer was involved in 80% of the reported cases.
Tragically, more than a third of the reported cases came from healthcare workers like Dr. Poland. As an attorney, my immediate suspicion is this is because healthcare workers are much more likely to report their condition than lay people. So who knows how many similar cases are out there.Tinnitus is NOT currently disclosed as a known side-effect of the jabs. [My tinnitus is manageable and often ignorable. I’m grateful it’s not worse. I’ve heard of cases where the constant noise, which can include clicks, booms, etc., as well as my “electronic tone,” can be emotionally devastating. No rest for the weary or anyone else. If the jab could have made my tinnitus worse…well, reason #143 to not get the damn thing.]

The AP ran a story Thursday raising questions about the Biden Administration’s sanctions program, with the headline “Russia’s Ruble Rebound Raises Questions of Sanctions’ Impact.”
The AP explained that “the Russian ruble by Wednesday had bounced back from the fall it took after the U.S. and European allies moved to bury the Russian economy under thousands of new sanctions over its invasion of Ukraine.” Uh-oh.
The AP made the obvious connection: “The ruble’s recovery could be a sign that the sanctions in their current form are not working as powerfully as Ukraine’s allies counted on when it comes to pressuring Putin to pull his troops from Ukraine.” Could be.
By Wednesday, the ruble was trading at 85 rubles to the U.S. dollar, which is roughly where it was BEFORE Russia started its invasion a month ago. The ruble had fallen as low as 150 rubles to the dollar on March 7, following the Biden Administration’s announcement it would ban U.S. imports of Russian oil and gas.
The rebound appears to be related to two things: first, Russia is requiring its oil customers, including China and most of Europe, to pay it in Rubles or else in gold. No dollars. Second, Russia is buying up gold well below market prices from internal sellers who aren’t now allowed to trade on international markets; in other words, Russia is taking great advantage of the sanctions to improve its own position.
It seems that Putin has somehow outsmarted Joe Biden. It seems incredible, but there it is. How could this happen given Joe’s razor-sharp intellect?

The Times UK offered more news bad for the Biden Administration yesterday in an article headlined, “China Accused of Hacking Ukraine Days Before Russian Invasion.”
The Times reported that intelligence memos it got from Ukrainian intelligence agencies show that China “staged a huge cyberattack on Ukraine’s military and nuclear facilities in the build-up to Russia’s invasion.” The intelligence memos purport to show that over 600 websites belonging to Kyiv’s defense ministry and other Ukrainian institutions suffered thousands of hacking attempts co-ordinated by the Chinese government. The Chinese attacks started before the end of the Winter Olympics and peaked on February 23rd, the day before Russian troops and tanks crossed the border.
US intelligence sources confirmed to the Times that the information about the Chinese cyberattack on Ukrainian government facilities before the Russian invasion was accurate. The Chinese embassy did not respond to a request for comment, for some reason.
The article’s sub-headline draws the obvious conclusion: “Beijing is complicit in Putin’s war.”This is shocking! I was assured by top experts on MSNBC that the invasion of Ukraine was ONLY masterminded by a deranged dictator, Vladimir Putin. And it was ONLY because the Russian president harbored lunatic notions of reassembling the USSR or something because ever since he was just a tiny communist toddler dreaming of hammers and sickles he’d always harbored racist bigotry and prejudice toward the Ukrainian people. And I was assured by the smartest people in the Biden Administration (well…) that Putin had NO IDEA what he was doing or what he was up against and the Ukrainians were going to quickly teach him a thing or two about invading other peoples’ countries.
But … if this new information is accurate … then Putin has been cleverly working with the Chinese from long before the invasion, and the Chinese must have a stake in the outcome or they wouldn’t get on board either. And that means — and I know you won’t believe this — our experts were WRONG AGAIN. It’s starting to look like OUR experts are the ones who have no idea what they are doing. Biden has managed to unite the two biggest nuclear powers in the world, historical enemies. Great work. Thanks, Joe.
Do you think our top generals might consider putting aside their cross-dressing hobbies and putting their pants back on for ten minutes to focus on what is really going on in the world and what we should do about it? Oh, what am I thinking? I’m sorry. People need to be free to express themselves and their true inner sexual deviations no matter the cost. Never mind. Carry on!

NASA Sis reported that she’s doing better. She’s been diagnosed with dysautonomia, which apparently she’s had since 2014, when she had some arrhythmia. She has found the proper specialist, and is doing better.
That Sjorgens will get her, eventually, unfortunately. She told me years ago that many Sjorgens victims usually die from organ failure as the disease progresses. Some years ago she reported that she was suffering from lack of energy, as half of her mitochondria seemed to just shut down.
I can’t even imagine.

I made great progress last night on the bookkeeping. I’m going to put up another tub or two before going back to work in the office. With any luck, I’ll be able to send the files back to the CPA this weekend.
Keep your fingers crossed.

A Disney engineer writing under a pseudonym has published a broadside against the company at Quillette. We thought for years the worst department in any organization was Human Resources, but along comes Diversity, Inclusion & Equity to prove everyone wrong.
These Commandments are complemented by Disney’s “Four Keys.” Every new cast member has these four keys drilled into them from day one: Safety, Courtesy, Show, and Efficiency. For over six decades, the Four Keys and Mickey’s 10 Commandments guided storytelling and experience-making in the Disney parks. These guiding principles have been in place, with only minor alterations, for roughly 65 years—nearly as long as the parks themselves have existed. They have helped a talented and dedicated team of Disney cast members tell stories that appeal across demographic, geographic, ethnic, religious, and political lines.
But suddenly, this is all changing. The last couple years have brought COVID, lockdowns, the summer of 2020, and the doctrines of critical theory and its various permutations to the Disney corporation. Ibram X. Kendi was a featured speaker in the “Reimagine Tomorrow” series, an internal Disney effort to promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives within the corporation. Employees stuck behind laptop screens at home joined BERGs and Slack channels, and used their ample spare time for internal political action. The DEI department within the company expanded by an astonishing 633 percent in 2019–21, at the same time that nearly every other department was contracting by 25–75 percent. Most surprising of all was the addition, in April 2021, of a FIFTH key—Inclusion—to the traditional Four Keys used in training. “Like The Four Keys before them,” announced Josh D’Amaro, “The 5 Keys—with Inclusion at the heart—will continue to guide us as we interact with guests, collaborate together, create the next generation of Disney products and experiences, and make critical decisions about the future of our business.”

Millheim Cemetery cleanup this morning. I’m not much help anymore more but I can still wield a rake for a couple hours without too many bad consequences. Somebody brought about ten grandkids. Hallelujah. Let them pickup all the piles. And those middle aged guys can be on the tree crew now.
Place looks gorgeous now.
And any visit with Mom is a good day.

Wow I am looking at 3 weeks delivery time for a new car. Most new cars are on an order and wait for delivery basis. Waiting for my dealer to call me back so i can put a deposit on my new highlander. There is one used car I might could be talked into buying IF IT IS STILL IN STOCK. BSue is not real happy because she want a “blueprint blue” car but that would be substantially longer wait. So we are ordering a candy apple red model.
I know of some folks who have gotten new cars but they are crippled because they do not have chips that are needed to make some of the bling work. I know it will not make any difference but I wish Flash Bang (Prez) and Bob Marley (Vip Prez) would take Nancy for a long walk off a short pier.

Why can’t companies just focus on making their products more efficiently and better?
I understand that people should all be treated with respect, but all the trainings, round tables, workshops, etc. quickly make people more cynical. All that really needs to happen is a short session every so often that says what you can and can’t do, then enforce it.
Those that don’t like this can go somewhere else to work.
-
They bribed the grandkids by telling them they could attend the annual Forged In Fire event today. In error, I thought it was held two weeks ago.
The event has gotten so big that they had to move it from the ancient blacksmith shop to the Fairgrounds.
Three hundred something vendors!
I guess I’ll have to go one of these years.

I’m at the Toyota place getting a little bit of maintenance done to Yellow Hair’s 4-Runner. Two different people from “inventory management” have stopped by and asked if I’d consider selling it to them. The question I always ask is “What would I drive if I were to do that?”
That said, Soaring Eagle is in the market for a small SUV, so I’ll do a drive-by through the used lot to see what they have. He finally got hisself a real, bona fide, paying big boy job. Schlumberger is shoveling money his direction. It’s insane. Good, but insane.
It’s also kinda strange being here. Mark strolled through last time I was here but I didn’t clue in to it being him until he was well past. IIRC, it was only a week or two before he died. Missed opportunities…

Morning gang. I’m here, and we are just pluggin away. Lots of stuff to go through, but most of the paperwork in at the attorney’s office, so that’s the important stuff. The rest of it is family keepsakes and such. A little sore from all of yesterday’s activities, but I’m going to sneak in a nap today before the wake. Most everyone is still holding up pretty well a little over 6 weeks since her passing. You all have a great day.

There is NO WAY I’d ever own a hybrid or electric. If I had to, I’d get an old Volkswagen and rebuild it to drive if I couldn’t get anything else. OR just find an ancient Mercedes 220 D since it’ll burn used P Nut oil. 😉

Had some set backs. My digestive track went back to sleep. Been NPO since 5am yesterday. Things seem to be waking back up now. Hopefully I can make it through the night and I can start back on clear liquids tomorrow and perhaps soft foods too.
-
So are we still on for next month?
Yes, we are. I talked to Hubby about just last night. He’s trying to build a new barbecue pit, which he swears will be ready in time. I just finished my gardening and was thinking I needed to get the invites out today or tomorrow. My focus has been on the bookkeeping issues, but I do need to let everyone know the particulars soon.

Ready to go to the wake. Hope my ride shows up soon. Don’t plan to hang around there very long.

Texmo, just get better. Soon.

Let me talk to your digestive track. Just put the keyboard on ya and i will get that thing straightened out quick. If not at least your wife will have a good laugh trying to figure out what the heck you are doing.

I bought a bigger tub than usual at the thrift store this week, so I got it planted today. Lots of yard and kitchen scraps. It got planted with some ginger, since I think I killed my previous ginger rhizomes. Yeah, it’s a gift. Topped it off with some potting soil. So, anything that comes up that’s not ginger is a weed.
Unlike my spinach tote. I had scattered a lot of spinach seeds, and was all excited when I had sprouts everywhere. Weeds. Part of today’s gardening to-do was to yank all those out (surprised an earthworm and tenderly covered him back up) and put in new seeds. I marked each of those with a wooden skewer from the dollar store. So, now I know that if anything comes up not near a skewer, it’s a weed and I don’t have to wait to see what the secondary leaves look like.
I put together another thrift store tote with 2 pickling cucumber and 2 nasturtium seeds, also marked with skewers. Put two more lettuce seeds in the tote below it, to go with the other lettuce and basil in that one. I’m trying to stagger some of my plantings for a longer harvest. Everything got mulched with old leaves to retain moisture.
I went back to some other pots that have failed to produce seedlings, and tried reseeding those. Those were tomatoes. If they fail, I’ll just toss those seed packets and get plants. I have a pot for a tomato plant but I think I have three pepper plants, probably volunteer from my compost pile dirt. I’m gonna let ’em stay for a bit, to see what happens. I think squirrels got two of my okra seedlings, but the others seem to be doing okay, so far. There is more that I want to get done, but I have to finish my bookkeeping asap, so maybe later in the week.
I was very pleased to see the dewberry vine along the fence is much longer than I remembered, and FULL of flowers. I may be able to harvest some of them this year.
When I watered, I could smell my herbs releasing some fragrance. Nice. I have some mint, now, so maybe I’ll add a sprig to my tea.

Whoohoo I am once again no longer mobility challenged. Paid cash for a 2021 Highlander which is so blue it looks black. First time I have ever bought a car and spent only 90 minutes in the dealership. Last time we bought a car I was in the electric chair tortured with ants for 4-5 hours. It has most all the bling Toyoda offers so it is going to be fun getting the lovely BSue read in on how to do.Even got the Lunar Mooned roof. It has a sliding panel to cover that thing on the inside so the car does not turn into a microwave.

I thought I lost my office glasses a few days ago, the kind that are close-medium-far lenses. Love those things. I ordered replacements, and then I found my originals. I just stepped outside, and for the last year or so, the max number of squirrels I see in the backyard is usually 3, maybe four.

We made it to the 16th annual Crawfish Festival today,…16 years?! Dayaam, didn’t know it had been around that long. Anywho, it was better than expected with the whole city square blocked off along with a couple of spurs, there were a bunch of vendors. I counted 6 that had boiled crawfish and a bunch more selling fried everything, BBQ, cotton candy, sausage dawgs and who know what. of course there was a bunch of sellers with a lot of homemade stuff, handy crafts, preserves, honey and baked goodies. We got our mud-bugs from the folks that have a new seafood place in town. We picked them because the line was do-able. We got a couple of crawfish plates that had taters, corn and some sausages. Plenty to eat and I will say that the crawfish were much better than expected. They were fresh (alive when boiled) and just spicy enough to make you think they might Cajun. I rate the heat level at PG 13, so just about anybody can eat them. I like mine a little warmer but these were good for this type of event. So all-in-all we had a fine day.

BTW; We met a real nice older couple that had recently moved here from Decker Colorado and were eating the mud bugs. They were very nice and said that they liked the crawfish and enjoyed our warm climate.

Bellville used to have a spring festival around the town square years ago. All kinds of food vendors would come, but the best were two groups, one from around Port Neches-Groves and the other from Lake Charles. The latter outfit brought the best coonass food of the two, their own band and a bunch of old dancers who were stray cat members of the Squawkbox family tree. If you looked at them you wouldn’t believe they could walk around the square, but the minute that Cajun music started they transformed into some other creatures and started moving around and dancin’ like you couldn’t believe…for hours and hours. It was a great testament to the fantastical powers of coonass cuisine for the mind and body.

I was deeply concerned because you know what they say about people who ride around in cherry red vehicles.
I am a little dense today. What do “they” say? Although my brain is spinning with not so pretty thoughts about cherry red vehicles.

I never could get close enough to make out what they were saying, but they were saying a lot of things. You just gotta be careful.
I wouldn’t want to start any rumors. You know me, I would never start trouble.

You know me, I would never start trouble.
Well it is not like I have not tried to corrupt you in some way or another.

We are doing a Food Truck Social in the ‘hood tomorrow late afternoon. That will be different, especially for me; I haven’t done anything social since Christmas Day.

Werewolves of London which should not be confused with Werewolf of Washington

Super Dave walks away snickering thinking about August. 😀

I realize you people make biscuits from scratch in a cast iron Dutch oven over an open fire from flour that you refined from wheat that you grew yourselves. I’m not talking to you.
As for us mere mortals, has anyone else noticed that there haven’t been any Pillsbury 1869 Biscuits in the grocer for almost a year?
-
Super Dave walks away snickering thinking about August.
You have no idea! I came this close. 😀
-
As for us mere mortals, has anyone else noticed that there haven’t been any Pillsbury 1869 Biscuits in the grocer for almost a year?
Well no, but I do know that Daufuski Oysters disappeared about two weeks before Thanksgiving, then one day in February a dozen cans showed up at the PIG, now Nothing. FWIW; They’re not to be found at any of the grocery stores around here. Back to the biscuits, I use Mary B’s frozen biscuits and they’re always in stock. FWIW; We really like them.

The wake memorializing BFF could not have turned out any better. Weather was perfect, crowd was well behaved and in somewhat of a celebratory mood to celebrate BFF’s life, no one won the drunk prize. A crowd of about 35 or so showed up, family, former law associates, others who knew her; mostly the only common denominator being BFF herself. And she had a very impressive group of friends. I don’t normally like those social events like that, but even BFF’s sister told me she caught me having a good time and enjoying visiting with old friends. The venue was good and everything was appropriate for the occasion.
Now it’s bedtime, and tomorrow is a travel day. Nite nite you all. Maybe I’ll have more details on the wake tomorrow or in a day or two. This has been a tiring trip for an old man, but we are slogging on through it. More later.

Hamous dearly hated what Disney did to his home place and state. He was born and raised around Kissimmee and Osceola County. I do wish he could have been here to see this.
Walt Disney World straddles two counties: Orange and Osceola. Revoking Reedy Creek would put that big chunk of Disney back under the jurisdictions of those two counties. Before we dig into more specifics, imagine the headache of dealing with not one, but two, county authorities.
Disney would lose its autonomy in every area listed in the bullet points above and subject the company to a mind-blowing tangle of local government bureaucracy.
“Rather than local governments, Disney is in control of everything from construction zoning, building codes and fire department services to controlling its own electricity, roads and water, meaning if the law is repealed, Disney will now have to get government approval for decisions about its operations—which might be harder or take longer to get,” notes Alison Durkee at Forbes.
Disney installs its own Board of Supervisors over the Reedy Creek Improvement District, and that board implements its own rules and self-taxation over the property, which pays for the services that the district offers. Those taxes would become county taxes that Orange and Osceola Counties would be sure to raise in order to pay for the additional burden of services that the property would impose on the counties.

Interesting read. Great honest to goodness back and forth in the comments as well. Enjoyed it.

One for me.

And one for traditionalists like my unckola.

El Gordo, I’m glad the wake turned out good, a bunch of friends and family celebrating BFF’s life. The way it should be.
Oh and Mornin’ Gang -
#64 Squawk, your “CAPTAIN KIRK MEETS JOE BIDEN” was great. I really liked the pathetic reporterette on CNN just nodding her head continuously, I don’t know her name but she is EVIL!

That was GREAT! -
Hubby is supposed to take his backhoe over to Handsome Son’s house today to help reduce the jungle environment that MIL allowed to take over during her tenure at that house. She’d probably let over half of her large backyard become overgrown. Handsome and LDIL have been pretty productive at reducing the jungle but Handsome is very sensitive to poison ivy, so putting a large piece of machinery between him and the hated vine is a pretty good idea.
Handsome said that he and his wife wanted to put in some raised beds for gardening this summer. I told Hubby that if they bought all the soil to put into those beds, it’d cost a small fortune. They should take all of that vegetation and start a compost pile. My totes are pennies a tote instead of dollars because I’m making my own soil, and the soil is alive instead of chemically supported. (That option will get more expensive as the fertilizer shortage hits, too.) He said he’d talk to Handsome about it, but I should prolly stop by after church and talk to them myself. Hubby’s not into the gardening enough to really be able to explain the benefits.
LDIL is a bit of an obsessive-compulsive cleaner, so I don’t know if she’d take to having a messy compost pile in the backyard.
-
BTW – most of the lots in my neighborhood are about an acre. You could put one of these new city house lots in my backyard alone.
So, Handsome is dealing with a lot of bushes and weeds.
-
Well, I found out why my basil that I transplanted next to my rosemary is dying.
Turns out, rosemary is a bully when companion planted with basil. I should have checked the companion planting charts before doing that.
Just because they are delicious together doesn’t mean they are friends in the garden.
I’m glad Eldest Sis warned me against planting fennel near anything. I like fennel, but from her experience and knowledge, it would wipe out my other plants. I’m thinking I may put some at the far back of the property, all by itself. I have a fennel and tomato dish that goes extremely well with Dad’s lasagna recipe.

Good morning gang. Whatever I had planned to say this morning went out the window when I discovered that the Power Line boys are celebrating Emmylou Harris birthday in today’s column. What better way to waste an entire day than listening to Emmylou and studying the back story. https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2022/04/sunday-morning-coming-down-130.php
You all have a great day. I’m trying to get loaded up for some travel today. More later.

How do we know Google is dying?
If you’ve tried to search for a recipe or product review recently, I don’t need to tell you that Google search results have gone to sh*t. You would have already noticed that the first few non-ad results are SEO optimized sites filled with affiliate links and ads.
Google still gives decent results for many other categories, especially when it comes to factual information. You might think that Google results are pretty good for you, and you have no idea what I’m talking about.
What you don’t realize is that you’ve been self-censoring yourself from searching most of the things you would have wanted to search. You already know subconsciously that Google isn’t going to return a good result.
I’m far from the only one who thinks Google is dying:
-
JOE BIDEN: “I’m deeply proud of the work [Jill is] doing as first lady with Joining Forces initiative she started with Michelle Obama when she was vice president”
-
I’m always on the fence about whether or not I like Darren Beattie at Revolver News. I think he’s a closet Jew hater, but I’m not sure. He does have a fascinating speculative column here.
The Battle of the Century: Here’s What Happens If Elon Musk Buys Twitter
The most exciting possibility is therefore the most obvious one: Musk should simply buy a controlling stake in Twitter itself. He could certainly afford it. At $31 billion, Twitter’s market cap is less than 15 percent of Musk’s current net worth. Even if one regards Twitter stock as entirely worthless, Musk could theoretically buy a controlling stake in it and still be the world’s richest man by fifty billion dollars, and free speech would be restored to the “land of the free.”
But in practice, it’s not that easy. In fact, one would be hard pressed to imagine a project more dangerous and difficult than restoring free speech to a major tech platform like Twitter. At the same time, it’s hard to imagine a more worthwhile project. Restoring genuine free speech would do more for patriotic Americans than the GOP taking back the White House in 2024, and it would pose a greater threat to the ruling Regime than anything Russia, China, or Iran might plausibly do.
Free speech online is what enabled the Trump revolution in 2016. If the Internet had been as free in 2020 as it was four years before, Trump would have cruised to reelection. Massive censorship and suppression are the tools needed to prop up Covid tyranny, the Ukraine war fever, and the idea that Lia Thomas is a “woman.” America’s decrepit and illegitimate ruling class intuitively understand this: Absolute freedom of speech, or even the speech norms that prevailed a mere decade ago, would instantly cause the American regime as we know it to crumble. In short, transforming Twitter back into a real free speech platform would represent nothing less than a declaration of war against the Globalist American Empire.

Well, that was a rabbit hole I wasn’t prepared to go down this morning but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks!

Good morning, Hamsters
#86 Texpat, several thousands/millions/mega millions of Americans by now must be cataloging Biden’s gaffes for future use to bombard all the nitwits left who voted for him and the shrinking number of folks who were blinded by Trump Derangement affliction. Perhaps the latter have a chance to wake up and realize what they did was stupid, and then to contemplate that their stupidity has made a mess of the country in many ways. No “I didn’t know…” excuses accepted. They share in creating the mess the country is now in. It affects them now. The nitwit segment is hopeless.

Happy that yesterday’s celebration of BFF’s life was blessed by good weather. Her loss certainly was shared by the many who could attend the memorial service, and those who could not attend were there in spirit.

Don’t know about the rest of you couch Critters, but I for one felt like I KNEW BFF from all the posts that EG made during his trips to Dallas over the years.

I just taste tested on small leaf on my oregano plant. Note to self: a little will go a long way. Holy moly, talk about filling the mouth with flavor! It’s strong, almost industrial strength.
Depending on how you use fresh herbs, you might get different results.
I’ve found that oregano is better dried almost all the time. There are also different varieties of oregano: Greek, Italian, & others with varying degrees of pungency. Basil & thyme are better fresh usually. In the case of skettie sauce I put dry basil in early then fresh right at the end.
Dry rosemary is I like a mouthful of pine needles. I put a sprig in the pot or whatever then pull it out later. The stem is a great handle for that.
Fresh herbs are also best for making flavored vinegar and compound butter.

What a find this is. A must read for Hamsters, but pick a quiet time to sit back and read it all. Have an adult beverage handy, you will need it!

Here’s a weird one for ya.
The fungi in the photo linked below started showing up in my yard last fall.
There is no stem.
This one is a little larger than a baseball and you can see another next to it, working it’s way up from the grass.Never seen anything like it in my life.

Back to SS. Return trip was again uneventful, but was bucking a strong headwind all the way. Plants are glad to see me back home as they were getting thirsty, so that thirst has been quenched. Unloaded car but have not put stuff away yet. Tired, and I did get extra exercise while I was up there. Future trips to Big D will be limited, if any at all. All looking forward, looking backward is about over now. And remembering the good time, not the bad ones.

I’ll be heading out soon to a Food Truck Social in the ‘hood. Glad for no rain today, but the 17 mph wind is unwelcome.

Well ok then…

We watched the Ben Carson movie last night, Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story. I knew a bit about him from the campaign trail but not as much as I thought. Fascinating man.

Our granddaughter, nine, has been on the same girls softball team for this, third year so they are fairly good. The league tried to convince our oldest son, the coach, to move them up a level prior to this season but he ultimately they decided to play a final year together. Since then, son has been catching a little grief from other teams accusing them being essentially being a “Select” team which is silly, they are pretty good but no where near that good, and they are not destroying other teams.
I remember when I played ball and when our boys were playing, that was the normal cycle, start with a young team and grow until it was time to move up, then you were at the bottom again unless you were fortunate enough to mix in different ages. What a bunch of whiny babies anymore.

Well I tried to revive the danged thang…. Going to grill some burgers.

I came home from church, stopping to get some buckets of dirt from the pile Hubby has at the shop. Going to mix in some organics in my compost pile and use it for future containers. (Hoping to get one done tonight.)
Stopped by Handsome Son’s place to see how the brush and stump removal was going. They have really worked hard on that backyard, the back fence is visible now from one side to the other. As I said before, it was half overgrown when he inherited it. They are planning to put in some raised bed gardens, so we talked compost and stuff, then I went to pet his cat for a bit. Handsome gets all grinny when he talks about his cat. I’m making friends with the cat, since that’s his kid right now. Milo is a good cat, and wasn’t too skittish on this, the second time he’s met me. When he started playing with my skirt and play biting my bare leg, that was about it for the end of the visit.
Then I was going to work on my bookkeeping, but I fell asleep on the office couch. Just got up and realized how much time I’ve been out. These late nights are getting to me. I may step out and get today’s container set up before fixing dinner and then back to my desk.
Oh, and I saw bathing suit shopper in church again today. Again, she left right after receiving Communion. Didn’t even stop long enough to say thanks.
And we had two new families in today. They are easy to spot, because I recognize the same behaviors from my first times at the Latin mass. Good to see them there.

I seem to have fairly well navigated the Microsoft Edge newest edition explanation of everything it now offers, as here I am. Purely by accident I believe, but some of the features that are undoubtedly helpful for just about everybody might as well be writ in old Klingon, which I am not familiar with.

That’s interesting.
That photo should be accessible by all. That’s the only reason I use the service.
HOW ABOUT THE REST OF YOU?
There’s no point in me using the app anymore if I can’t share photos.
-
I just sent out party info, and I got two email failures: Squawkbox and El Gordo.
I’ll try to contact you via FB or Gab (EG – you’re on Gab, right? FB?)
You should have shared access to a spreadsheet with sign-in information such as headcount, and if you are bringing any food items to share (totally optional, but I know I feel better if I bring something for gatherings like this).
Please, no paper plates or cutlery – we have plenty from previous family get togethers!
I was working off of an old invitation list, sadly having to eliminate several names. /sniff If you don’t get the share invitation to my Google Drive document, please let me know.
My usual site that I use for planning parties is insisting I join for a monthly fee for something I use once a year, maybe. No thanks. This shared document is how I’m going to get a headcount an’ stuff.
I hope to see y’all there! Oh, and when you are planning your point of entry to my home, I highly advise you enter on Villa Street from Airport Boulevard, south of my neighborhood. Our streets suck, and that is the shortest and cleanest way in.
-
Hope you noted which front door.

Ms TT
I just changed my email on my profile. I thought I had done that already. My old sbcglobal email I can no longer access.
I think the date was May 7th? If so, that works out perfect for our race schedule.
-
You mean I have to shake hands with Google to access this document?
I promise, only for you Teresa, only for you.
-
#108 – no, I’m not on Gab. I do have fakebook messenger, or just email at [email protected].

Spreadsheet won’t allow me to make an entry.
Please note I’m only bringing myself.

Yes, I was able to open the Amazon photo sharing app with zero problems. I have never had any difficulty at all using it over the years.
*And I am mystified by some of the computer problems Tedtam has. I think there is some Next-Door saboteur jacking with her computers.

Sorry Grandpa, all I have to offer is slightly over-done, crispy, breakfast-thin pan fried pork chops with mashed taters, Mac/cheese, and Spicy Charro Beans.

But I did get the yard mowed.

It’s a damn Keto nightmare. -
Stopped in to check on the Grammys.
Best I can tell, there’s still a pandemic of crabs in the crotches of young black performers.

Grilled burgers cooked over charcoal, with avocado, lettuce and tomato. Just went with chips.
Worked on my garden today weeding. Behind schedule but not by much. I’m not going all out project with it, what grows will grow and I’ll eat it.

I survived teh Food Truck Social, and came home with about 75% of my cheeseburger and “fries” for reheating later on tonight and lunch tomorrow. Humongous portions. And I’ve never had anything like the fries basket: yeah, there were french fries in there, under a medley of melted flavors, not all of which I could identify. Of those I could, the big blob of guacamole was my favorite.
The weather was perfect, and I saw lots of friends and neighbors. (Brushing up on my socializing skills for TT’s big event. I don’t know if I’ve signed up yet, but I’ll look into that one of these days.)
-
I got one tub done, for some zucchini. Made dinner. I’ve decided tonight’s not gonna be a work night, the brain needs some rest.
I’ve found that Pluto TV has a dedicated Stargate channel. Watching the tail end of the movie now.

I haven’t used Evernote for collaborating on projects, but maybe I’ll resend the invites using that app. I wonder if you have to have an Evernote account to share a file – I guess I need to check on that first.
-
Never once saw BB King or Al Green with a crotch grabbing problem.
Speaking of Rev. Al, I never saw this collaboration with Chicago before.
-
I’ve never had an issue with Shannon using Amazon photos to share pics.
Y’alls dinners sound better than my plain chicken broth and cherry icee.
I’ll look for Tedtam’s invite. I’ll probably bring something to share, and I’m sure I’ll still be experimenting with a special diet for myself.
-
No smashed carrots!
-
Shannon – I finally got access to your photo. I have a script blocker on my browser, it’s protection against hackers. I approved all of the pieces on the list, and then it told me I was not longer signed in and needed to sign back in. What the heck? I just backed out of that screen and lo and behold! The magic fungi appeared!
From the size and shape of it, I wonder if you’ve got a puffball going there. The linked site says they fruit later in the year, so maybe not.
Here’s another link: https://grocycle.com/puffball-mushrooms-guide/

Checking in late, But sister showed up about 2:30 and we had to catch up. As for supper, I fixed a coastal casserole, made with fresh shrimp, canned crab meat, rice, cream, onions N celery and all sorts of seasonings. To go with it, I stir fried asparagus in olive oil and cooked corn on the cob in the microwave. Oh and frozen Texas Toast. The ladies seemed to really enjoy it. BTW; After, we made the rounds on the Mule I came in to fix supper and the gals worked on the raised beds sister brought over on the truck. She has a guy that makes these out of old pallets. They look real good.

About the Fungi picture, when I clicked on it, I had to “sing in” with my Amazon name and password?!?! What if I didn’t have am Amazon account? FWIW; This is the first time I’ve had a problem with Shannon’s pictures.
-
Worked fine on this end, and I don’t have an account.

Email update on my profile still shows pending.
Never mind I got an email and got it changed. Anyway Ms TT, email has changed for me. Use the gmail.

Sounds to me like you folks residing in your mega-secure-clean-room-digital-Fort Knox’s have a problem with my photo sharing app.
Dang it.

My 127 – Well I rcvd multiple attendee lists – I aint on them.
