The Trump parade escorting the Biden bus is just too funny. Bunch of videos.

Fixxin to be westbound for more new HEROs
Yall enJOY!!

SO, I was watching Fox and they had the clip on Biden calling us Trump Supporters “Ugly Folks” then they had the clip of Don Lemon talking to Fredo about getting rid of his friends that support Trump. They interviewed Cory Lewandowski and David Bossie and when asked about Don Lemon Cory Lewandowski said, I’ve never told anyone this but when Trump was elected Don Lemon wanted to be his Press Secretary! Really?!?! I didn’t know that. Is this why he hates Trump so much? I remember Rush telling us about the Two Sad Blisters trying to crash Trump’s campaign election party at Mar A Lago and how they were snubbed, now they spend all their time trashing Trump.

Be careful Katfish. I took my Beast to the local lawnmower/lawn tractor/motorcycle/ ATV place to get the carbs worked on and the old boy that owned the place showed me his old Harley’s. Several early Evolutions and one old Panhead with Springer Forks.

My son and his girlfriend are on vacation in Bandera Falls out in West Texas on some property of his boss, he trailered his Triumph Rocket 3 and they road the 3 Twisted Sisters yesterday. They stopped at the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum and saw a bunch of old bikes.

He has that thing against my wishes but what are you gonna do. They are having fun.

James Bond actor Sir Sean Connery dies aged 90.
He was a great actor, RIP. -
Sean Connery has left this life.
Trump and Seal Team 6 has rescued an American hostage in Nigeria. But it’s all a campaign trick and a distraction, I’m sure.
-
RIP Sean Connery.
Born to be Bond.
-
Watching Sean Connery as Jim Malone in The Untouchables was like taking a course in dramatic acting. He was stunning in that role. Connery just owned the screen and the movie. They should have given him 6 Oscars for that work.

This was fabulous news.
In a late Thursday decision, the Eighth Circuit ruled that mailed-in ballots in Minnesota have to be in by Election Day or will go uncounted, striking down state election officials’ plan to accept ballots up to a week after.
The 3-judge panel ruled 2-1 to grant an injunction to the Republican Party’s Electoral College nominees in their challenge to the state’s rule change. U.S. Circuit Judges Bobby Shepherd, a George W. Bush appointee, and L. Steven Grasz, a Donald Trump appointee, wrote that Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon overstepped his bounds with the rule change.
“The Secretary’s instructions to count mail-in ballots received up to seven days after Election Day stand in direct contradiction to Minnesota election law governing presidential elections,” the ruling said.
and this is on target,
Special note: From a legal angle, one very significant development is the Court’s clear and explicit language specifying that ONLY state legislatures are Constitutionally vested with authority over elections. This kind of legal reasoning is likely to resonate with conservative SCOTUS justices and may very well be applied to cases involving other states.

R.R. Reno is at it again.
…Today’s malignant atmosphere sent me back to the Epistle to the Romans. In the first chapter, St. Paul outlines an account of the fall of man into sin’s self-defeating disorder. His account differs from that in Genesis 3, which is at once extraordinarily lifelike and timeless. Flesh-and-blood individuals engage in conversations with a mysterious serpent, and with God himself. The account is open-ended—“original,” not in the sense of being unique, but rather as the fount from which so much flows.
St. Paul’s brief account in Romans interprets Genesis 3 and lays out a genealogy of sin. It draws upon the Wisdom of Solomon, which emphasizes the primordial evil of idolatry, a common theme throughout the Old Testament. Creation is radiant with the power and glory of the Creator. But the peoples of the earth refuse to harken to these clear signs. They do not honor God, and they fail to render to him the worship that is his due. Instead, they elevate lifeless images “resembling mortal man or birds or animals or reptiles” and bow down before them. They live inverted lives, worshipping things fashioned from below rather than looking upward to the source of all reality.
The problem with idolatry is not “theological,” if by that term we mean simply false belief. St. Paul focuses on idolatry as a moral disaster. Concord between God and man is rooted in gratitude, a disposition that conforms our souls to the goodness of God present in all that he has created. This gratitude, expressed in worship, is the lynchpin of human flourishing. When we fail to express gratitude, our minds are darkened and everything we do is infected with disorder and dysfunction. Worshipping idols is like being on a journey and losing awareness of the destination. Decisions to turn left or right become pointless. Going north or south, fast or slow, makes no difference. We are not lost. When we know our destination but suspect we’ve gone astray, then we are lost. Idolatry is worse: We’re trapped in the futility of trying to get we know not where. Every plan, purpose, and destination is at odds with itself. The Old Testament evokes this futility in passages that mock idols as mute and lifeless. They give no directions…

Morning gang. Got to spend the morning getting my halloween costume all put together. Once I get it on, it will look surprisingly like the same thing I wear every other day of the week I’ll bet. Clear, bright, and cold out here this morning, but expected to warm up nicely before it’s over. I’ll try to get out and hack around at some cactus and bee brush when it warms up a bit. And then there is College Football Saturday to deal with.
My deer herd of mostly does and yearlings has all turned almost black in color in just a short period of time. The yearlings have no shifted color as dramatically as the does, but I’m going to research that a little. I presume that it has something to do with matching their surroundings as the leaves fall off the trees and help with their camouflage during the winter.
OK, you all have a great day, and I’ll be back with more later as it develops.
-
Hammy, it looks like I’ll be joining your parish. Haven’t made the move official yet, but Hubby is so fed up with our parish priest that he’s ready to try somewhere else whenever I am. I also notice that there’s a free Ecclesiastical Latin course for parishioners that I’m interested in, and since we have our last official Confirmation activity this coming Thursday, now seems to be the time.
It’ll be hard to leave a church where my roots actually go back to my childhood, to leave so many friends, but I’m feeling more marginalized as time goes on. And there is so little going on, compared to Annunciation. Annunciation is looking for “orthodox catechists,” and I think I fit that description.
-
Good chilly morning Hamsters. We made it to 39 at 6am, and currently is 55 in the sun. Kitty Purrscilla is sunning herself in a sunbeam on the garden room floor.
Sean Connery will be missed by so many senior folks like us who saw every movie he made as James Bond and not as James Bond. Hope one of the TV networks does a tribute to him by running all his movies. 90 is a good age.
Lots of dew on the yards and pastures that looked like frost just as the sun was getting up. What I though was light frost several days ago in the back pasture must have been the dew. Well, frost will arrive soon enough.
Spouse’s brother and wife called to say Happy Birthday to him and chat for a while. Wisconsin has already has had snow that lasted a few days. Kinda early up there, and perhaps it is a sign of a cold winter coming.
-
It is Halloween isn’t it? And I don’t have a thing to wear. Not a problem, I’ll just go as a Southern Redneck. 😉

You and Hubby will most likely be much happier in another parish. If the Bishop is not aware of the issues with your current pastor’s thinking, he should be. You two can’t possibly be the only ones distressed by this situation who have also moved elsewhere. God hears us all no matter where we are, out in a field, at home, driving on the road, in a store, in bed, let alone in a building we call a church. Otherwise He would not be omniscient, omnipresent, nor omnipotent as theologians teach.

My #18, that picture was taken the day after Hurricane Harvey and I was heading out to HEB. And, looking it it now, I’d say that I’ve lost some weight. The first thing the kids said when they first visited here was “dang, Dad you’ve lost weight”.

Perfect costume. 🙂

#14 Shannon: That is a brilliant description of the left today. They worship the state and the whims of self; it is idolatry by definition, and they are lost without the clue that they are lost. We know that they are constantly trying to change the definitions of words to hinder and confuse the rest of us; their ideas of right and wrong change with the winds; they lie constantly; and they have absolutely no consistency of person. They spread strife as a reason for being and the end result is misery, poverty and death.

Leaving a parish of such longstanding relationship cannot be without trepidation. But knowing that it is a Spirit-led decision surely must make it exciting. Godspeed. -

Because the zombie lacks a soul, we find that in many iterations of the legend it tends to feed on the living, perhaps on account of some infernal jealousy directed at those who remain ‘alive’ in the true sense. Here we find an enduring anxiety regarding the transformation of the West from a civilization that has nurtured an authentic, living culture to the so-called “consumer society,” which tries to compensate for its diminished spiritual sensibility by accumulating material things and products. Like the insatiable zombie, however, for which the taste of flesh only sharpens the incipient cravings, no amount of material wealth can ever replace what modern westerners have lost in terms of their cultural inheritance.

It’ll be hard to leave a church where my roots actually go back to my childhood, to leave so many friends, but I’m feeling more marginalized as time goes on.
I sat through years of Masses where Jessica Farrar and Sylvia Garcia, both rabid supporters of abortion, were Eucharistic ministers. Every two years She-Jack would be invited in to give a political speech during election season. There were countless homilies where I was told there were no “illegal humans” yet not one on the evils of abortion. Not even Farrar holding a “Christmas” party fundraiser at Planned Parenthood, on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception no less, was enough to garner a rebuke from the priest. During this time the priest had decided to join The Metropolitan Organization, a Marxist organization directly descended from Saul Alinsky’s Industrial Areas Foundation (where Barry learned his “community organizing” chops). They take 2% of the parish’s collection and then use it to destroy the church.
Yet the thought of leaving the church family I had known for 30 years and going “church shopping” just sounded abhorrent to me. The final straw came around the time that the whole queer marriage thing was coming to a head. The priest told us that we should not concern ourselves with things like gay marriage or abortion and focus on welcoming everyone and taking care of the children already here.
I walked out and left the parish. The next Sunday, I went to Holy Rosary on Milam downtown. I had been there before for sidewalk rosaries at what was then the PP abortatorium on Fannin, just around the corner. It’s a nice parish with a large Vietnamese population.
The next Sunday I went to Annunciation and felt instantly at home. Msgr. Golasinki gave his homily and that sealed the deal. Then he announced that, since he was retiring, the new priest would be introduced the following Sunday. That raised some concerns for me. Would this new priest be like the one who was driving me away? The next week all my fears were put to rest when Father Felix came in. It was obvious that the Msgr and parish council had a say in his replacement. I’ve been there ever since and can’t imagine being anywhere else.
I know I wrote about all this here when I was going through it and the support I got was a tremendous help.
I understand the conflicting emotions and even pain you’re going through. Trust in God and you can’t go wrong.

I am going out at about 5 pm to get pix at the 10-12 homes in the neighborhood that are having an early Trick or Treat with social distancing. I plan to wear my black t-shirt that says “This IS my Halloween costume!” Have not worn it in a long time, so need to look for it before my afternoon nap. Last time I wore it was during PT trips to the gymnasium at Mem-Hermann NW, following my first knee surgery. Hubs was taking me in for 2X/week PT sessions, and that day simply happened to be Halloween 2013. It got a smile from everyone in the gym that day.

Has anyone seen Ann Coulter lately? I just realized that as a Trump supporter, I haven’t seen nor heard her anywhere.
-
Rod Dreher’s new book is Live Not By Lies: A Manual for Christian Dissidents.
This pervasive censorship of thought and opinion should deeply concern citizens of a supposedly free country. Concern about such censorship is, in fact, what Dreher says provided the impetus for his book when, in 2015, he was contacted by “an anxious stranger” worried about suppression of free speech in the United States.
“The caller was an eminent American physician,” Dreher writes. “He told me that his elderly mother, a Czechoslovak immigrant to the United States, had spent six years of her youth as a political prisoner in her homeland …. Now in her nineties … the old woman had recently told her American son that events in the United States today reminded her of when communism first came to Czechoslovakia.”
Dreher embarked on a several-year odyssey of talking to people who had once lived under Soviet communism — many of those interviews are included in the book — and found himself “unnerved” by the similarities that began to emerge between 20th-century totalitarianism and the “soft totalitarianism” that seems to be on the march today. He is careful to acknowledge that “we should not conflate being socially or professionally marginalized with prison camps and the executioner’s bullet,” but still sounds the alarm about a trend he worries we may not be seeing clearly because of its insidiousness.

Is Ann Coulter a Trump supporter?
-
I just remember her telling Maher on his show that she thought Trump would win, and proudly defended her position. I kinda lost track of her after that.
-
I just got back from 1 1/2 hours of driving around looking for Halloween photo-ops in the neighborhood. I was driving from one concentration of activity to another, and after parking, would walk back and forth seeing the sights. Sure wore me out, much more than 1 1/2 hours of yard work would have done. Saw & talked to people I hadn’t seen or spoken to for years, but I don’t get to the other side of the subdivision very often these days. Now I’m basically too tired to download the camera and see what I’ve got. Doesn’t matter much, next newsletter won’t be out until December any way.

O’Keefe wins. The NYT will have to admit that it wasn’t “deceptive” and that Omar is stealing elections, or O’Keefe will have publicity that will expose the fraud.
This defamation action arises out of the publication of a false and defamatory news story authored by Defendant Maggie Astor, a politics reporter for the New York Times, and published in both the online and print versions of The Times. The story was first published on The New York Times website on September 29, 2020 with the headline, “Project Veritas Video Was a ‘Coordinated Disinformation Campaign,’ Researchers Say,” repeated the same day in an abbreviated form online with the headline, “Researchers say a Project Veritas video accusing Ilhan Omar of voter fraud was a ‘coordinated disinformation campaign,’” and then published the following day in the print version of The Times with the headline, “Project Veritas Releases Misleading Video, Part of What Experts Call a Coordinated Effort.”
But will it also end up changing a major legal standard in defamation suits?
Recently, however, Justice Thomas has taken up the cause by writing dissents in cases where the Supreme Court has declined to hear cases where media defendants have escaped liability based on the plaintiff’s inability to satisfy the “actual malice” standard.
The basis for Justice Thomas’ dissent is quite simple — Justice Brennan made the whole thing up. The “actual malice” standard is the epitome of Judge-written law. There is no basis for press immunity from suit by private actors under state libel laws that arises from the Constitution’s prohibition that “CONGRESS shall make no law” abridging the freedom of the press. Nothing about that phrase, or the historical context in which it was adopted as part of the First Amendment, was ever meant to allow the media to escape liability for reputational damage done to innocent third parties by their reporting.
Maybe one day not too far in the future we’ll have another First Amendment case from the Supreme Court to celebrate — Project Veritas v. The New York Times Company.

Coulter went never trumper a couple of years ago. I don’t remember what set her off.

I keep seeing the same freaking Biden commercial many times a day with some doctors kvetching about how Trump is providing insufficient leadership through this “crisis”.
None are actual epidemiologists. They all remind me of the one in ten dentists that do not like Crest toothpaste.

I pretty much gave up on Coulter when she went all goo-goo over the Jersey Jelly Roll.

Well, I was getting kinda tired and ready for bed, so I just rolled some of my clocks back and hour and I feel more rested already. But I guess I should go to bed soon anyway. Rice won a football game against a team that is even more pathetic than they are, but a win is a win. Sadly, TU pulled one out of the fire. UH did not fare very well, and OU was thrashing TT pretty badly the last I checked.
I can’t tell if the libs are playing possum or what is going on, but it seems all of a sudden Trump is starting to show much better in the polls. Hopefully it will be an overwhelming red tide, but guess we’ll have to wait a couple more days to find out. Meanwhile, I’m also hearing that the Dems are planning to drop a big stink bomb of some kind tomorrow – been hearing that for a couple of days that Sunday was D-day for them to unleash something outlandish. Guess we’ll find out soon enough about that too.
Where’s Hunter? You all have a great evening. More later.

Beats me what time it is. I figured the butt crack of dawn would be appearing any minute now, but the clock says about 4:30. This time change is going to take some getting used to. At least it’s not so freezing cold out there this morning – about 47 – but I think it’s supposed to get colder again tomorrow. I’m forecasting some unhappy cactus and bee brush plants outside today if the sun ever does show up.
Had a cute little skunk show up at my patio glass door last night. Just peeking in to see what was going on. I can only shoot my .22 in one direction without having a house in the background, but he was headed out to visit the neighbors to see if they had left him some cat food I guess. Anyway, by the time I get the .22 unwrapped and get out the back door, he’ll usually be gone anyway. I’ve got a few rules for shooting skunks. First of course, don’t shoot in the direction of any houses. Secondly, make sure it is outside the backyard fence. Skunks have a lot of long hair fur, so you have to pull it down on them pretty low or they will just get their hair singed and get all huffy about it. I think most skunks have rabies – at least that’s what my Dad told me years ago.
OK, here’s hoping that you all have a great day. The political fever is reaching the boiling point and the pressure is building. Keep your powder dry. More later.

#61 – Somebody reported that they had found ice (water) on the moon, in some of those always shadowed craters. That prompted the Bee to put out the story that Trump wanted to create a Navy to sail the waters of the moon. USA Today apparently researched the Bee’s story abut Trump wanting to put a Navy on the moon, and was unable to find any Trump reference to wanting the Navy sailing on the moon. So then the Bee said they were retracting their story about Trump putting the Navy on the moon (by now has anyone figured out just how ridiculous it sounds to put the Navy on the moon, since if they actually do have water, it’s probably not very much) So, after spending the time and resources to debunk the Bee story, somebody over at the Navy said something to the effect of “Oh yea, we’re putting a Navy on the Moon.” So then the Bee decided to retract its retraction of the Navy on the moon story. How much more crazy can it get out there.
I suspect that most people who read the Bee figure out pretty quickly that it is a satirical site. But of course, Dems have no sense of humor, so they never get the joke.

We just hunkered down waiting for the Sunday October surprise.
-
Well, the wife rolled in last night about 6:30 PM and I went to get her bag out of the Tahoe. When I got it to the door I asked her if she had smuggled a Messican back from California, damn that thing was heavy. Oh and did I tell you that I hate the time change? I’ll be an hour off for a few days but the wife has been on Pacific time for a week and a half so it’ll be even worse.
-
What is the Sunday October surprise?
-
We’re all anxiously awaiting the Sunday October surprise. It’s been rumored for a few days now that the Dems are planning to toss a great big pile of droppings from Nancy and Chuck as well as other contributors today. But no details have leaked, or should I say oozed, out of the swamp just yet. We’ll just have to wait and see. Hopefully, should that happen, some compromising photos of Joe and Hunter should appear in short order.
-
Rumor was there is supposed to be one. NYT’s, I think?
-
I think it’s going to be Hunter is Trump’s brother then the Babylon Bee will say it’s not true then the MSM will fact check them wrong then….

My neighbor trapped another skunk yesterday or Friday night. Yesterday morning it met its demise at my hand via this beauty in .22. 2nd time this week and they were both real big ones.
He told me he was re-baiting the trap, so we shall see what happens. This thing is very accurate with the correct pellets, and it takes a while to find out what it likes. When I do my part well, it will tear the same hole in the paper. From a standing position, using a camera tripod as a rest, head shots are very reasonable at 25 feet.

Sweetie was reading me some post she ran across from a guy on the Biden bus, talked about how the Trump supporters ambushed them, tried to run them off the road, outnumbered the police and calls to 911 police did nothing. Comments were, did they burn the bus down? We’re there Molotov cocktails involved? Why you calling the police? 😛

Good Sunday morning Hamsters.
Countdown to Tuesday’s activities has begun for real. Hope the voter turnout exceeds all other Presidential elections.
Spouse and I took care of voting a few days after early voting started. He asked for a mail-in ballot, received it promptly, and put it in the mailbox at a US mail substation here in the Pecan Grove area. I went to the usual polling place at Bowie Middle School in Richmond and spent and hour total getting there, waiting, voting, and then heading for home. Spouse asked for the mail-in ballot to avoid the crowds sure to be there for in-person early voting. Turned out that my going around 2 in the afternoon was a good choice, and the weather was decent in the shade and sun and fresh air.
Now to wait until Tuesday night to see what’s happened where voting-wise. Expect President Trump to be re-elected in a landslide and have coattails that bring other conservatives winning as well all over the country.

Got a email from my cousin in Sydney, Australia this morning inquiring about the upcoming election. Aussies are very much interested in what happens here of course given they aren’t very far away from N. Korea and China, its mentor. I replied we had voted early and expected the turnout on Tuesday to be very busy nationwide.
Also forwarded her today’s Town Hall piece covering the bases on the election in different aspects that pretty well cover what’s currently the status on both campaigns and the popular reaction to same.
She had not been aware of Biden’s dementia and his having stayed out of circulation in his campaign recently, leaving it all to Kamala Harris and surrogates to carry the message. Told her Kamala is a socialist and as a VP she would be first in line to succeed Biden if he could not perform the duties of President. Mainly having concern over Biden having control of the red button (and what that is) given his mental status.
I’m sure cousin has little idea that in the US socialism is a dirty word and concept to Americans who clearly understand what it is. Australia is politically organized much as England, so socialism is not foreign to them and not considered evil even in instances when it doesn’t work well. I told her the US is a Republic and not a Democracy, which I’m sure is not generally known outside our borders. Or, unfortunately, inside our borders thanks to the pathetic state of public schools.

Whew. Nice day out there, but tippy toeing around all that cactus with sharp spines which whacking away at the rest of it is iffy work. I feel like Don Quixote tilting at windmills, but you can’t say I’m a quitter. I’m going over to Tractor Supply to see if they have anything that will work on this bee brush. It’s probably the wrong time of the year to try to do any chemical destruction, and the good stuff requires a license from Dept. of Ag. (texas I think, not US). I don’t have enough to justify getting an applicators’ license. I keep thinking one of my good friends will just loan me a few shots of his, but it cost about the same as the San Saba Olive Oil where they sell it by the teaspoon, so I can understand why they are not so generous.
Back when I started a few years ago, this place was impassible with brush and cactus. I could not even walk down my fence line on either the inside or the outside, and over time I’ve cleared it all by hand with a shovel, grubbing hoe, and chain saws. I don’t want to let it return to its old state, but I’m not nearly as spry as I was a few years ago. Unloading some of this excess baggage is making me feel better, but I haven’t really lost enough yet to make a noticeable difference. Just gotta keep on chuggin’.

#83 – I guess those deer just don’t pay any attention to the No Trespassing sign. Good thing they pay attention to the deer crossing signs that lady was complaining about a while back. Short version – she was wondering why the didn’t put the deer crossing signs out where there wasn’t so much traffic that could cause one of them to be hit.

Expect President Trump to be re-elected in a landslide and have coattails that bring other conservatives winning as well all over the country.

I forgot to mention that the brush is probably 8′ or taller, so you can’t see through it or walk through it – except where the deer have carved out tunnels for themselves. They seem to avoid the cactus, but they get pretty close. I’ve not attempted to walk in one of their tunnels, but the feral cats and I assume most of the other varmits out there use the same tunnels.
The other part of the deer story is that once I cleared the area of brush and cactus, regular grass and weeds returned to cover the area. It’s too rocky out there to mow, so the weeds can get 3 or 4 feet tall in the spring, but once the hot dry summer gets here, they turn brown and crunchy pretty quickly. Then the deer come along and stepping on them, and pretty soon there is a nice mat of dead weeds covering the ground. I can see where they still bypass areas that have cactus growing in the middle or some other obstacle that they prefer to go around, but overall, they make it look better than it would as a dust bowl.

We don’t do facebook, and given the current hoo-rah over it and twitter regarding censorship don’t intend to even consider starting them.
And like I said, I don’t blame you, I only got on it by accident, I see many friends and family there and so far they’ve treated me OK, well short of sending me stuff to buy but that happens EVERYWHERE on the internet except here.

Trump Burger of Bellville is being mobbed today. At least 50 motorcycles and untold dozens of cars. The line is far, far out of the door.
-
Maybe they are in there harvesting mail-in ballots.
-
It looks like the line at Trump Burger forced a lot of them to walk down to Bellville Meat Market to get some mighty fine Pecan smoked BBQ.
On the way back from the car wash I noticed The Hill burger joint isn’t hurting for business either.

There are a number of County road culverts around here which are infested with Rivercane.
They fight it mechanically, but recently they’ve been spraying it with great success.
Perhaps your County guys have an herbicide they can recommend.
-
Around here it gets about 12 feet tall and the stems are thicker than 3/4”, I guarantee.

Tender river cane shoots of any size can be eaten raw or used in stir-fries and other Asian-style dishes. Firmly grab the top of the cane and pull. Usually whatever comes off is tender enough to eat but nibble the bottom end to make sure it isn’t too hard or fibrous. Peel off and discard the leaves or use them to weave tiny baskets. I like the youngest shoots, less than three inches tall growing from what looks like clumps of grass.
Bound to be keto.

Something I’ve noticed about Hunter B., including in the pic in Hammy’s link, is the front of his shirt is always rumpled. Every man around him has a smooth shirt front, and a carefully knotted tie, but Hunter always looks like he just got dressed in a hurry.
-
…or use them to weave tiny baskets
I was just thinking the other day, “Dang, I could sure use a tiny basket!”
-
Has the tiny home craze run its course? If not, maybe there’s a market for tiny baskets.
-
Now we know what the Left has been dosing Biden with.
River cane is slightly susceptible to ergot fungal infections. Closely examine any river cane for signs of a purple powdery substance before harvesting, especially during rainy summers following very cold winters. Ergot poisoning can lead to hallucinations followed by death.

Just got back from the 11:00 Latin mass at Annunciation. I got there early, as I’m still trying to figure out the best way to get there from here, and I thought I’d get my rosary in before mass started. An elder gent named Bob Young started talking with me and he showed me the Foley House and pointed out the rectory, then we sat down in the lovely sunshine to talk and adore the little kids running around in their saint costumes for All Saints Day. Some of them made me squeal a few octaves above my normal voice, they were so cute. We got to talking about politics, past parishes, and Fr. Felix/Annunciation. Then another man named Roy joined us, and I was able to pass on some info for streaming channels and online web sites, I got one from Bob, and then it was time to go in for mass.
Despite my little red cheater book for beginner Latin massers, I got lost somewhere before Communion, but was able to pick up a little later. I noticed that there was a holy water font so I put $5 in the box and filled up two bottles to bring home.
So, now I’m home and I just put Midsomer Murders on and about to wash some dishes. I think I’ve finally got Hubby off Law & Order, which that and some car shows were all he’d watch, with occasional breaks for M*A*S*H*. He’s learning how to navigate Pluto TV and he was watching “All in the Family” this morning. He’s also learned about Newsmax, which was what the TV was tuned to when I returned home.
I’ve finally gotten him out of his rut.

I nuked my two big front blower beds. They are now cactus/succulent gardens, weed barrier underneath and white marble chips on top. The white marble against the green cactus/succulents really pops. A lot of work and money, but I am please with the results and am hopeful that it will thrive on neglect.

One of the places I lived in Austin was in the bottom flat of a duplex on the edge of downtown at 15th St. The house was up on a bank overlooking the stream named Waller Creek. Said creek had bamboo cane growing along the banks, seemed very exotic to me, having grown up in West Texas. I’ve probably mentioned that house before, and the novelty of being within walking distance of both my job downtown with the US Geological Survey, and the UT campus.
That whole area near downtown has morphed into city parks and medical centers, but that house we lived in was long gone before I had left Austin in 1981. I know because I attended a friend’s wedding ceremony in the city park shortly before I was gone, never to return. I did walk around in the park that day, looking for any sign of where the rent house had been, but the area had been landscaped. I could stand in the spot where the house had been, just off of 15th St and looking down on Waller Creek, but no trace of the house or a huge tree that had shaded its front yard. I think I still have some pix of cats we had up in that tree.

#115: Those would be flower beds. I finally got rid of the 2 pittosporums that were there when the house got built in 1985. I never did like those dam tings. I have agave, euphorbia cactus, some other random cactus and one clump of vincas for color. The agaves came from the west side of the house where they were getting so big and full of offshoots that they were taking 1/4 of the driveway. They are majestic in isolation.

I’m too lazy to try.
-
I’ll just say that Georgia, Iowa, Arizona, North Carolina, and Arizona Senate races are still looking scary.
-
I don’t see a link. How can you get it to work if there is no link?
-
There is a link in the first sentence with the words “create your own map”.
I tried it on my phone and Windows 10 computer and it works.
-
I never can figure out what time it “really” is for at least a week after one of these clock changes. Fortunately, I’m retired so I don’t care what time it is. Seems to be my naptime, so later, y’all.
-
I just posted my “rose colored glasses” prediction.
On a separate note: This works extremely well on limb rats.
-
Also works on linux with firefox and brave.
I’m assuming you know how to highlight the link when you hit the share button and use ctrl-c to copy then ctrl-v to paste.

#125 M42: There has to be some rules to this game:
1) Don’t get caught. You may claim your “prize” after 6 months.
2) If you take out an innocent, you get to be the target for snipers.
3) Don’t get caught. This needs to be repeated, just because.
4) No discussions about the game with anyone. See #1, 3. -
Well, I gained an hour when I got up this morning then I gained another hour this afternoon because I didn’t change the kitchen clock yet and I forgot the time change. Thought I was behind on my rib smokin. Have no fear I’ll figure out a way to get behind again.

Something I’ve noticed.
I believe that the beef industry has priced itself out of certain processed products.
At HEB, there are no frozen, pre-cooked, seasoned beef fajita products. Nor are there any seasoned, ready-to-cook beef fajita products.
Nor are there any chilled, cooked, ready-to-heat “pulled-beef” type products. -
Their pre-fab raw pork fajitas are worth trying.
Bought some beef ones week before last.
-
Another thing.
Fay came to this union with some really fine, old sauce pans. Somewhere along the way the 2qt. saucepan disappeared.
In searching around, I wasn’t really surprised that the brand seems to no longer exist.
These are the identifying markings:
CUISINE-COOKWARE
Copper/Stainless Sandwich Base
The Cuisine-Cookware Company

Designed in USA
Manufactured In KoreaWhat did surprise me is that nobody seems to manufacture stainless/copper sandwich based pans anymore.
I guess copper just got too expensive.
It’s all stainless/aluminum bases now. -

If you are using an ad blocker, accessing this page through DuckDuckGo or using a VPN that blocks ads, you’ll need to turn off that feature or access RCP through Google.

There are a bunch of companies making copper/stainless cookware. Here’s a page starting with Anolon and All-Clad.

Now that I posted that, I get the whole story.
That set of pans was from her mother. Fay utilized oldest-daughter-privilege and acquired them when her mother passed. They date back to the 1950s or 60s, and she is pretty sure that her mother bought them from a peddler. She remembers her mother admitting that she shouldn’t spend that kind of money, but they were of such high quality, she just had to have them.

Yeah. All Clad. Right.

I’m not going to be around long enough to break in a $150+ saucepan.

They priced their chuck roast right out of my big pot of chili on Friday. I ended going with $3.99/lb ground beef instead of $9.99/lb roast.

I saw a really nice $200 All Clad Waffle Iron yesterday, though.

I found flatiron steak for $4.99/lb a couple weeks ago. Just as good in chili as chuck roast.

Your H‑E‑B has chuck roast for $2.79.
You can also get part of a brisket for less than $4 if you got time to cook it in a crock pot or something.

Copper core is what I’m looking for.
.
Types of Copper Cookware
Generally, apart from pure copper, there are 4 different types of copper cookware:
Copper Clad: If you have seen any copper cookware with a “tri-ply” suffix or prefix in its name, then that is a copper-clad cooking pot or pan. What it means is that three metal layers (aluminium layer sandwiched between inner stainless steel and an outer copper coating) are bonded together across the bottom and sides of the pieces.
Copper Ceramic: These types either use an infusion of copper and ceramic, or bond the two. Alternatively, the ceramic is applied as a coating inside the pans and pots to give it a nonstick property.
Copper Bottoms: In this type, the copper layer is only used at the bottom. A copper disk is fitted at the bottom of the set elements to distribute the heat during cooking evenly. It is a popular type among copper cookware that can be used for induction cooking.
Copper Core: A typical copper core pan has an encapsulated disk with bonded materials at the bottom only and not along the sides. This disk usually takes the design of the cladding copper, except that the disc is solely at the bottom.

Beef is more expensive up here. At least the beef worth buying is. I won’t buy it out of the grocery stores up here.
-
I have several copper-bottom sauce pans that I’ve been lugging around for 50+ years. They were given to me when my mother-in-law died of a heart attack at an early age. I have used them, but not so much the last 10 years or so. I probably wouldn’t be able to give them away, now, because I didn’t keep the copper lids — I never used them. I gave them to a friend in Austin before moving here ~40 years ago. She didn’t cook much either, but liked them as decorative items on the kitchen wall.

Anolon Nouvelle Copper Hard Anodized Nonstick Sauce Pan/Saucier with Stainless Steel Lid, 2.5 Quart, Dark Gray
This is what you really should buy if you can wait. It’s out of stock everywhere momentarily. I think it’s about $70.

I just ordered the 2qt. which is what I needed and was in stock.

Not crazy about non-stick saucepans.

Sheesh. -

There are no coatings of any kind so there is nothing to scrape off or scratch. This is solid hard-anodized aluminum with the copper clad bottom. You really can’t beat it and it’s easier to clean than stainless steel.

Hundreds, maybe thousands of cars and trucks in New York had a MAGA parade today from West Nyack on I-287 across the Hudson River over the Mario Cuomo Memorial Bridge. Video here.
Congratulations on the parade, but I don’t approve of them blocking the bridge. It’s rude and there are people and truckers on that road trying to make a living.

I was reminiscing about the 2004 election today. After the 2000 fiasco all of the media maggots expected the walking Easter Island statue to win in a landslide. Instead, Bush handily won the electoral college and popular vote.

I’ve had about all the suspense I can take for this election. The hardest one for me was in 2012. Romney could’ve won that one. He literally threw it away with his narcissism and stupidity. I just could not believe Americans would vote for another 4 years of failure and economic decline.
In retrospect, it was probably for the best. Romney would have killed the Republican Party along with his weasel VP, Paul Ryan. It would have taken years to build it back. Better he lost and Trump stepped up.
-
#154 – DAYUMMMMMMMIT that looks YUMMY!!!!!!!!!
-
The thing I wonder about is who the Dems are going to nominate in 2024. If they had any depth in their bench they wouldn’t have resorted to a corrupt, worn out, 77 year old dementia patient.
The big down ballot blowouts the Republicans have mounted since the late 1990s (see 2010) have had a huge long term effect on their ability to cultivate new candidates. The large Republican majorities in many state legislatures and other elected offices have put a serious dent in their game.

How exciting. Cruises are legal again.
Somehow, being in close quarters with 2000 strangers instead of 4000 still holds no attraction for me.

I have all these friends up here who go on cruises. I have no idea why they do this. The only thing to do is eat and drink. And you’re crammed in this gigantic can of sardines with thousands of weird strangers. They gave up trying to get HH and me to go with them.
