The Pan American Petroleum and Transport Company (PAT) was an oil company founded in 1916 by the American oil tycoon Edward L. Doheny after he had made a huge oil strike in Mexico. Pan American profited from fuel demand during World War I, and from the subsequent growth in use of automobiles. For several years Pan American was the largest American oil company, with holdings in the United States, Mexico, Colombia and Venezuela. In 1924 Pan American was involved in the Teapot Dome scandal over irregularities in the award of a U.S. government oil concession. Standard Oil of Indiana obtained a majority stake in 1925. The company sold its foreign properties to Standard Oil of New Jersey in 1932. What was left of Pan American was merged with Standard Oil of Indiana in 1954 to form Amoco.

and,

The Pan American Petroleum and Transport Company was incorporated by Doheny in Delaware in 1916 as the holding company for his Mexican Petroleum Company, Huasteca Petroleum Company and California oil properties.  World War I drove up demand for oil-fueled transport, and Doheny responded by expanding pumps, tanks and loading sites in Tampico. By July 1917 Pan American had a fleet of 31 tankers. The company paid $1.1 million in dividends in 1917 and $3.1 million in dividends on its common stock in 1918. 1918 revenues were $17 million and net profits were almost $7 million.

Looking at the picture, notice that the attendant is filling a quart oil container with oil and judging from the engine the automobile is a Ford Model T. I knew it wasn’t a Model A since there was not intake heater over the exhaust. I don’t know when the picture was taken but the Model A came out in 1927. BTW; The pumps were state of the art for the time since they had dials to measure the amount of gas. Most pumps of that era had a big fishbowl on top that you pumped up to the gallon level and then dumped it into your tank.

You know, I was thinking watching Tucker Carlson’s show last night, Joe Biden had to have been shaking in his boots when the Democrats started all the Ukraine crap on Trump. I think otherwise it would have been just some obscure story no one would have interest in.

I see Kimber is moving all of their gun company to their new Troy, Alabama location from New York. They just built a fancy new plant there.

    Adios, Cuomo.

I forgot to comment on that but it was big news around here a couple of years ago when they built the manufacturing plant. Actually Alabama has done a good job of attracting business to the state.

Tuberville must have that race wrapped up. Media isn’t even talking about that Republican pick up. And no polling to speak of.

Tuberville up by 12 points last I checked and he’s spent about $8 million, Doug Jones about $27 million. This sets a new record for the most money ever spent on a Senate race in Alabama.

Tucker Carlson Makes History with Achievement Never Before Seen in Cable News.

Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show broke records in October as Fox stomped the competition, according to ratings data compiled by Nielsen.

Fox’s showing made it 226 consecutive months that the network has been the top-rated cable news channel in total day and prime-time viewers.

Fox had four of the five top-rated cable shows in October, according to Forbes.

Carlson’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight” led the way with 5.359 million average viewers. That total set a record for the “highest-rated monthly viewership of any program in the history of cable news,” the network said in a media release.

Sean Hannity was right behind Carlson with 5.119 million viewers. The Fox show “The Five” was third with 4.102 million viewers and Laura Ingraham’s “The Ingraham Angle was fourth with 4.065 million viewers.

MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show,” at 3.696 million viewers, was the only non-Fox show in the top five.

“In the A25-54 demographic, Tucker Carlson Tonight hit yet another milestone as the first primetime program to reach 1 million viewers in the 25-54 demo since September 2008,” Fox News’ media release said.

GM Just Delivered The First Badass, ZR-2 Based Infantry Squad Vehicle.

This June, the U.S. Army awarded GM a $214.4 million contract to build 649 small, versatile, agile transports, meant to ferry nine soldiers and their gear. This is the finished product: the Infantry Squad Vehicle, based on the architecture of Chevy’s ZR-2 pickup.

GM delivered the first ISV today, 120 days since the Army awarded the contract. The subsidiary of GM that builds the rigs, GM Defense LLC, says the ISV is built 90 percent off-the-shelf parts, with a few goodies from Chevy Performance thrown in for good measure.

    And;

GM notes this 5,000-lb. rig is light enough that a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter can carry one into battle. If the mental image of an twin-engine helicopter hauling a ZR-2 war rig doesn’t bring a Bald Eagle Tear streaming down your cheek, well, you’re no friend of ours. 😀

“I know her personally and she is not a good person,” Heiman wrote. “I know that sounds like a spiteful mother-in-law but I speak on behalf of my son’s three other children that they do not see.”

Heiman wrote that Hegar and her own son took no action to help her three grandchildren after a fire burned down their home along with all their belongings in January. “His other children’s house burned to the ground last January,” Heiman wrote. “And they gave nothing, I mean nothing to help them out. MJ is only in it for herself. If she can’t help her stepchildren’s situation out, how do you think she’s going to help Texans out.”

“They didn’t say let me take the kids for a weekend and give you a break while you get things together,” Pike said.

We were greeted by 47 on the thermometer at 6am, windy with spitting rain. Needed my winter jacket on to go chugging down the driveway to fetch the Chron. Definitely a major switch in the weather overnight. That wind has teeth galore, and it’s been a long time since the last manifestation of this way back in January. Gray overcast and generally miserable outside would seem to be our fate today.

#18 Bonecrusher’s post has a warning to the average bear (citizen) to pay attention, prompt attention so as not to be caught flat-footed if/when any of the nastiness breaks out anywhere in the nation. Said conclusion will not be good for them, and a not so faint hint of what President Trump was said to be contemplating to protect voters on November 3rd should be taken most seriously as available if need be thereafter.

This represents and industry wide in-kind donation to democrats. Remember “Journolist”? Fishing, we have a pond here on the place that is about 3½ acres and when we were having it dug out my dad asked the guy how much it would cost to root out a small pond behind the house. Just a dam, no stand-pipe but a spillway. FWIW; there was a small boiling spring there that flowed about 9 months out of the year. The guy looked at it and said hell that’ll not cost any more, we can root that out in about 4 hours. So we have the “Little Pond” about ½ acre, just a deep bowl, it has never been stocked with fish but my dad would catch bass and bream at the big pond and dump them into the small one. Often when we’d come to visit my dad would take the kids fishing. If he knew that they weren’t biting he’d take them to the little pond instead of the big one and toss Catfish food out and the young-uns could catch bream as long as they tossed the bait into the water. Here is one of my favorite pictures of my Baby girl and my dad after one of those trips to the “Little Pond”. And yes, those bream were delicious, fried up with hush puppy’s N taters. 😉

Uncle Jolly was a Navy man and raised his first two boys to sail.

As far as I remember, the last boat they had was this one:

#62 – Still anxiously peering out my window and waiting.

#73 – Back in the good old days, our family friend had inherited quite a bit of property in SS County. His Dad had dug 2 stock tanks on the place, a large one and a smaller one some distance away. When it was done, the old timer Dad declared “that was the silliest dam thing he had ever done,” and the smaller one was the second silliest. So, from that point forward, the larger stock tank was known as Big Silly and the smaller one as Little Silly. They would have parties out there with all the kids running around, and the invitation would always give the address simply as Big Silly or Little Silly. In fact, they are still called that today by the now adult owners who were kids when I was.

I was going to make some green chili tonight, since I had some leftover pork. The recipe went a little sideways.

I couldn’t find tomatillos at the store, so I got a big jug of salsa verde, which is almost the same thing. I was supposed to buy 2 jalapenos, but I’m not a big fan of them, so I got one big anaheim pepper to go with the poblano pepper in the recipe. There were jalapenos in the salsa verde, so I ended up with some in the recipe anyway. I sauteed the peppers and some onion, then cooked them covered until soft and added them to the salsa in the big pot, already simmering. I cut up the pork, and added some leftover beef (not part of the original recipe). Cilantro on its way out was thrown in, some garlic. I cooked it all up for a bit, but added four packets of Sazon Goya seasoning, which made it more of a red green chili.

It was still good, served with a sprinkling of shredded cheese and a dollop of sour cream.

I can understand people wanting to mail ballots in, but why shouldn’t they be counted on election day?

I mean, we have to pay out bills on time, right?

Early to bed, early to rise. Morning gang. A little warmer out here this morning clocking in at 43 degrees. Did that harrycaine get past Brother Dave’s place without tearing everything up? Who ever heard of having harrycaines in the middle of the winter anyway? It’s been freezing out here for the past couple of months or so hasn’t it?

Now to the latest mystery. How in the world did someone get to FedEx and open TuCa’s package and steal the contents undetected? Trying to piece together bits and pieces, they seem to be working on the idea that the package was opened at the processing center in Memphis. But how in the world would they know which package to get and open? Those packages all look the same when they are traveling. So, at least to me, that means someone had the tracking number to permit them to select the exact package to rob. How to get the tracking number – either the delivery boy at Fox who dropped it off at Fed Ex, the sexretary who prepared the packaging and labeling, or someone was able to hack FedEx. Since this is not US Mail, I can see no federal crime, so it will be up to private sector investigators to determine what happened. FedEx can’t figure it out, and I’m really wondering if the Fox people are as trustworthy as their management might hope. I’m betting on an inside job at Fox, but I’m first to admit that it’s all speculation on my part. The only solution is to fire everyone who came in contact with that package, Fox and FedEx alike. Someone will start squealing. Surely (1) they retained copies of the documents, which of course would not be admissible in court; or (2) they retained the originals and mailed copies to begin with, which would seem to have been the logical thing to do. I guess only the shadow knows. I might even be smelling a sting operation playing out.

OK, you all have a good day, and more as it develops. I’ll come back after someone sets off the alarm clock.
