Monday Truth About Slavery Open Commentary

The Arab Slave Market by Jean-Leon Gerome

For much of history, slavery was as fundamental to society as agriculture.

The incredible lies being perpetuated by the Left about the history of slavery currently is an incredible scandal.  It is unconscionable this assault on the truth is allowed to continue in order to serve the Marxist attempts to rewrite and own human history.  Kay Hymowitz surveys the past to bring the truth here…

The project’s creator, Nikole Hannah-Jones, was at first boldly dismissive of the attacks, but she has more recently been going through contortions to insist that she didn’t say what she demonstrably said; she has even erased her Twitter feed. The New York Times has likewise done some stealth editing of its own, altering some of the more controversial assertions in the online edition. A few weeks ago, President Trump himself went on the attack.

I’d like to propose adding another reason to close the book on the 1619 Project: it is based on a twisted notion of American exceptionalism. America’s “brutal system of slavery [was] unlike anything that had existed in the world before,” Hannah-Jones writes. “Enslaved people were not recognized as human beings but as property that could be mortgaged, traded, bought, sold, used as collateral, given as a gift and disposed of violently.” Brutal? Yes. Unlike anything that existed in the world before? Seeing how far this is from the truth is the only way to make sense of the contradictions and perplexing compromises of the American Founding that trouble us so much today.

and,

Slavery was a normal state of affairs well beyond the territory we now call Europe. The Mayans had slaves; the Aztecs harnessed the labor of captives to build their temples and then serve as human sacrifices at the altars they had helped construct. The ancient Near East and Asia Minor were chockfull of slaves, mostly from East Africa. According to eminent slavery scholar Orlando Patterson, East Africa was plundered for human chattel as far back as 1580 BC. Muhammad called for compassion for the enslaved, but that didn’t stop his followers from expanding their search for chattel beyond the east coast into the interior of Africa, where the trade flourished for many centuries before those first West Africans arrived in Jamestown. Throughout that time, African kings and merchants grew rich from capturing and selling the millions of African slaves sent through the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean to Persians and Ottomans.

and this,

Though it took more than a century and a horrific civil war to emancipate slaves in the United States, the abolitionist movement was a white Western invention. Other parts of the world remained wedded to slavery well into the twentieth century: slavery was legal in Ethiopia until 1942, in Saudi Arabia until 1963, and Mauritania until 1980. Today, one reads reports of slavery in Mauritania, Sudan, and in Islamist quasi-states in Iraq and Nigeria. As much as 15 percent of the population of Mauritania may be enslaved, according to the BBC. Estimates of those in bondage today run as high as 1 million people, mostly women and children.

A few years ago my boss took on a repair job for a company somewhere in Africa, now I can’t remember where. Not much into politics or history he came back astonished having learned they sold slaves to America and the rest of the world. I guess he had always figured we went over there and kidnapped them.

OK gang, I’m off to the races. You all have a great day, and I’ll report in from Bit D if it’s still there when I get there.

Well, after my sojourn through the Texas contryside this weekend I can report that, judging by signs and flags, Trump will carry that portion of the State between I45 and I35, with the probable exception of the Township of Kosse, which displayed a high concentration of Biden signs.

I was thinking that I’m done with mowing for the season but I wanted to cut the area beside the west 40 with the mower instead of the Bush Hog so it would be cut closer. I want to move my deer stand to that area. I think I’ll do that and then cut around the big pond one last time. Then I have to change the oil and filter on it.

Great insights and only 12 minutes.

While it could be argued that I like to drink the hard likker that I sometimes, allegedly, produce – I haven’t given up fashioning wood into objects that I wish to bring into reality. I also bake bread, only one kind and it is my recipe. I still treat pain on the side; but my day job is much more random.

  8. Tedtam Avatar

How do you change the oil on a deer stand? I’ve never heard of that!

I should also note that everyone who has tried the hard likker that I allegedly produce really likes it and usually asks for seconds.

Well, Handsome Son and LDIL arrived a little later than planned last night, thanks to a service call that HS had to handle before being free to visit. They both wanted to see “Trump Card,” which surprised me – I thought LDIL leaned a little left, but I was pleasantly surprised. She kept grabbing her head throughout the show, in a “this is too much!” gesture. I think she knew she had a reason not to trust Democrats, but as Dinesh D’Souza peeled back all the layers, LDIL was amazed at the level of corruption and bad actions. It was 10:00 pm when that show ended, but I made them stay another ten minutes to see Fr. Altman’s “You can’t be Catholic and vote Democrat” video. I explained that they could link to his other two videos on the Youtube link for the first one, then they said good night and left.

I stayed up to wash dishes. I was surprised I was still vertical, having had maybe four hours’ sleep the night before. I’m paying for it this morning, though. I woke up with a headache and my tummy’s not…perfect. Not bad, but I can tell I’m still digesting last night’s dinner. I’m having my coffee so I feel safe to take my supplements, at least some of them. I’ve found that taking them on an empty stomach is a really, really bad idea.

So, I’m getting ready to start my day. I have a tenant issue in Bryan to deal with. And that’s just the beginning….

If the stuff in question is that bad, so bad that the former Commissioner states that the three of them need to be arrested; well, let’s just say that this represents the “October Surprise” from hell. Wouldn’t it be great if some real justice actually takes place?

What are the odds that Biden has all the questions already and is practicing his responses? I’m going to say >90%
What are the odds that the debate scheduled for this week never happens? I’m going to say >75%

    Joel Pollak at Breitbart.

I wasn’t going to put up a yard sign; I don’t put up yard signs, in general. On the liberal west side of L.A., there is almost no point. The GOP has basically ceased to exist as an electoral force in California.

And as a conservative journalist, even though it is no mystery whom I support in the 2020 election, I tend to keep politics out of my personal life, at least with my neighbors and relatives.

But when I saw the first Biden/Harris signs start to go up, I decided I had to take a stand.

    and then,

“Did they steal your sign?” she asked.

    “Yeah,” I said.

    She shook her head.

    How odd, I thought.

Then it happened again — and again.

“Four more years!” one woman shouted from her car.

A man called approvingly from his pickup truck: “Get a bigger sign!” Another woman rolled down the window of her SUV: “You’re the only one around here with guts!”

HEADLINE: Whitmer Vetoes Ballot Integrity Bills Because They Would ‘Confuse Voters’

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has vetoed two mundane ballot security bills saying they would “likely confuse voters” and “muddy the waters.”
The bills “would have made it a felony to apply for multiple absentee ballots or fill out an application for others without their consent” according to Fox News.

Wretched shWhitmer is now openly against anything that will enhance ballot security and prevent voter fraud. AS you can see from her comments, she has no regard for the collective intelligence of MI voters. SHe may have a point, however, they did vote her into office. Come on Michigan, vote this hate filled, tyrant out!!

The common feature of each of these techniques of Kamalexamination is they are built on mendacity. One paying attention can see that the liar in these exchanges is Harris.

Undermining your own credibility on questioning is something a good examiner would never do, because it makes you less, not more persuasive. Harris’ seeming lack of awareness of this feature of Kamalexamination reveals a middling intellect. But the dishonesty at the core of Kamalexaminaton betrays a low and dangerous character.

So I’m thinking this is fine, it rained while I was in the store, probably the same at home. But streets were dry as I got close to home. Now I’m done for the day and inside, let ‘er rip.

My house is coded deep dark red, because I almost always vote in the R primary; my neighbors across the street are dark blue for the same reasons. Good evening Hamsters.
A dribble of rain here today and that was all early in the AM and a few drops around noon. Not much in the rain gauge, but the grass and other green things look refreshed.

The continuing saga of the campaign season grinds on, surprises galore, and it seems to be a never ending thing with a life of its own. The latest on Joe Biden’s campaign schedule involves being in the basement until next week. Things are deteriorating at warp speed it appears.

Early voting out here in west Fort Bend County chugs along with more folks than usual already having voted. I will try tomorrow afternoon at the local middle school not far away. Spouse said he would rather vote by mail than stand for several hours in line waiting to vote, so he got the mail-in ballot and put it in the mail at the postal substation near us this afternoon.

Not sure how long I can stand comfortably in line, as I tripped over a step up in the master bedroom last week and bruised the bottom of the arch on one foot on the edge of the step that is tile going into the master bathroom. Very painful when I did it but managed to catch myself from falling. I’m going to be bruised for quite some time on that foot and so am restricted to a few pair of shoes that are comfortable.

Lesson confirmed that sunken rooms are a big mistake, and we have two of them. When we built this house 40 years ago, they were fashionable. Master bedroom (ooh, not allowable to call it that these days, but screw that) and the family room are both sunken one step down. And the garden room is likewise a step down but is actually an enclosed room now on half of the covered back porch overlooking our back yard and pasture.

Purrscilla kitty is sitting on the desk surveying what I’m doing. Love that cat and we’re so happy to have adopted her.
