According to wiki, The Yearling was filmed at Lake Arrowhead. But the wiki page for The Yearling says different and confirms what I grew up understanding. The Yearling was filmed on location in the Juniper Prairie Wilderness in the Ocala National Forest in Florida. I found this pretty funny: MGM originally began production on The Yearlingin 1941, with Spencer Tracy set to star as the patriarch, and with Victor Fleming chosen to… Read more »
I bet ole Hamous knows why, maybe the difference between water or oil based? I don’t know.
Well first, MEK is used in paint stripper, so it’s no wonder. It’s a nonpolar solvent, which is why it didn’t dissolve the syrup. A polar solvent would work, the most common being dihydrogen monoxide 😉
Good night gang. Tomorrow supposed to be a travel day, but I may be pressed into service until Friday. Just spent the last hour setting up the wireless printer on a windows 10 machine using the “Easy Wireless Printer Set-Up” function. Got it to print with a cable, but still having a problem with the wireless print function. Sure glad… Read more »

I’d a tried some Ospho first. What ever you do, don’t use MEK! I’ll never forget the time, the kids spilled Coke on my red, Snap-On Tool Box top. It dried like thick syrup and I couldn’t get it off,…SO, MEK, ought to do it! Well, it did remove a lot of red paint but didn’t touch the Coke syrup… Read more »

#92-#97 BAWHAHAHA! Dang, I hate I missed it. BUT, I just got off the phone with the boy and if I didn’t know better, he has gone full California. He spent last weekend with his wife and another couple @ Lake Arrowhead,….YES! That, Lake Arrowhead, the one that was popular with the movie folks in the 50’s-60’s. They stayed at… Read more »
Arizona State University revoked a job offer from its incoming journalism school dean after students and faculty accused her of “microaggressions,” including a tweet that called some police officers “good.”
Since there is only about 200 square inches of food prep counter space in this massive kitchen, the first piece of furniture I bought for this place was a real nice, solid oak, roll-around island with a 42” x 39” drop-leaf butcher block top, raised-panel doors & drawers, and long knife block on the side. Step-daughter acquired some giant home… Read more »
A&E made woke news this weekend for taking Live PD off because, you know, Blue Man Bad. I’m watching it right now and The First 48 is on. It’s about cops investigating crimes. But I guess since it doesn’t have PD in the title …
Incredible Twitter troll master, Carpe Donktum, has found the most woke of the Woke whackjobs on Twitter. I’m sorry to say she is a Jew and meets all the criteria for David Benzion’s Iron Law. I’ve been thinking about fried okra lately. Yeah, I know how to cook it myself, but I do believe I haven’t done that since I moved to Houston about 40 years ago. So, guess I better get to Luby’s before they sell out or shut down, whatever is about to happen with them.

Tedtam – I get not wanting to be lumped into the bad apples, but so many get irritated at me for saying that while I don’t consider any random cop I encounter “Bad”, there are absolutely structural issues with many police departments – top-down kind of things, some of which are hinted at in other comments on this thread. “Stop treating us like animals and thugs, and start treating us with some respect!”
Maybe I’m jaded, but this strikes me as the wrong way for a police union boss to come off under the circumstances. Seems a little bit like “Respect My Authoritah!”
Did I mention that police union bosses tend to rub me the wrong way?
GJT ACE Speedway isn’t the only racetrack defying Gov. Roy Cooper’s executive orders against mass gatherings. When I was in Texas in October on I-10 between Sealy and Kerrville, everybody was passing me. I don’t think I ever moved out of the outside lane. I was doing 80-85 and I saw one single DPS trooper the entire round trip. Lots of drivers doing 100 or more. I was beginning to think they had defunded the DPS.

Daniel James’s primordial anarchism can only be described as unique and suited only to very special individuals.
Daniel James was more psycho-Libertarian than Phil. 🙂
Thanks for the compliment unca annyShay.
In another time I would’ve been the one shouting “the Redcoats are coming.”
Although I think Phil carries a driver’s license.
I guess. Not really sure.
Phil (a.k.a tOtAliTaRiaNcRaTs-R-NeVer-SatiSfiED) has been admirably filling his shoes lately.
