Crow Tribesmen at the Rodeo, Crow Fair, 1941

The Crow Fair Celebration is the largest Native American event in Montana, and one of the biggest powwows in the country. Held each year in Crow Agency, Montana by The Apsáalooke people of the Crow Indian Reservation just south of Hardin. Also known as the “Tipi Capital of the world”, Crow Fair begins on the third Thursday in August and attracts more than 50,000 spectators and participants from the around the world.

The annual Crow Fair takes place on the banks of the Little Big Horn River.  Yes, now that you ask, they have a big reenactment of Custer’s Last Stand in June.  To the victors go the spoils and the celebrations !

Only here will you see Native American riders riding bareback portraying warriors of the Sioux, Cheyenne and Crow tribes. No whites riding as braves! You will see them and Cavalry riders crash across the Little Bighorn River as was done on June 25th. 7th Cavalry Riders wearing the appropriate attire of troopers on the plains with McClellan saddles/gear.

Yes.
I didn’t mean to infer that the little black guy was the first Houston mayor to enrich his friends.

Hell, I remember Louie Welch.

IAH should have a gigantic bronze statue of him and his friends at the entrance.

Americans do not kneel. We stand. Deep down, we know kneeling in submission to the whims of mobs or tyrants is wrong. Both our ancient stories and our modern myths reflect this truth. Instead of bowing to the altar of collective guilt, our exemplars should be Hanania, Mishael, and Azaria—though most know them by their Babylonian names: Shadrach, Meshach, and… Read more »

Back when we had a large construction materials and geotechnical laboratory our company did a large amount of work with city, county, and state governments. Probably 60%. Only the mayor’s friends will be able to push permits through. And everyone else will be their subs.

Well, I know its not a big deal to y’all, but I just figured out that Gear Nerd Nirvana Tent is a Jansport Yosemite. Sold for $196.50 in 1985, or about $468.22 in 2020 dollars. Probably not a big seller at that price, and at 6 pounds 12 ounces, not what you would call a backpacking tent. Further research is… Read more »

I haven’t been East of downtown in no telling how many years. At the very least, way back when I was running hotshot in town…with the occasional foray into LA.

It’s all pine trees all the way to the Atlantic. 🙂

Going to Beaumont on the morrow to meet a potential customer in the AM. I’ve not been that far east in 20 years. I’ve watched enough Texas Bucket episodes to know there is a food joint around there but can’t recall one off hand. Any suggestions are welcome.

We too are moving out of anything requiring a CoH permit.

Houston is becoming New Jersey.

That little black mayor’s friends are going to get so wealthy that lower Memorial is going to see some interesting changes.

If you had an engineer on staff, he/she could create a thirty page memo to the city which precisely describes every anticipated action from the time you leave your shop for the job. Maps, graphs, drawings, and photos included.

Bury them in paperwork and they’ll relent.

They would have an orgasm and then want a wind load analysis. Seriously.

Sounds reasonable to me.

Typically, the cost of a heated driveway system is between $12-$21 per square foot. Looking at our data, the average cost of a radiant heating system installation is $3,892, with a low of $1,300 and a high of $7,500 in that range.

Had another permit rejected. “Not everyone knows what a CPA is,” among other things. Okay, one of the first things you learn in the meter business is cut, plug, and abandon. The Taps & Meters department uses CPA on their paperwork. If you are reviewing permits for this type of work, you should know basic abbreviations and acronyms. I’m expected… Read more »

I strongly suggested that in their next team meeting they talk about putting up a detailed, step by step document online with very specific instructions on how they want these permits filled out.
