Starting another week off.
Morin’ Gang -
Got some big wigs coming in out of Chicago today, get ready for the dog and pony show. At least I’ll get lunch out of it.
-
#2 GJT Who do they represent?

Pink, foggy skies this morning.

The moral of the story? Never let Dave play with the big Komatsu, Excavator. 😉

I’ve posted this one before, but it is worth a repeat.
1957 GMC 100 Series 1/2 ton Suburban with NAPCO Front Driving Axle.
Please clean up the drool on your keyboard after viewing this beautiful 4WD GMC owned by Ray Wiegand.

I’d like to be in Lafayette with Hamous today. I guarantee there won’t be a lot of work getting done since everybody between Vinton and Slidell is getting wound up for tonight.

Useful Idiots on the Right: The Never Trumpers.
One could perhaps have excused them their earlier indiscretions of November 2016. He was, after all, an unknown quantity, an outsider of questionable conservative pedigree. Indeed, Donald Trump had been a fairly typical New York liberal Democrat for much of his life. And he had led a less than stellar moral life. And so the pile-on at the time by National Review and others could perhaps have been forgiven, although not really, when one considered the alternative. As I had written at the time;
Do we not grow weary of the sanctimonious ones? The Never Trumpers that endlessly hector and scold, and hold themselves up as paragons of moral virtue? They display their good taste by showing contempt for Trump and his supporters. Some of them claim they will vote down ballot, skipping the Presidential slot, or vote for Evan what’s his name (McMullin). Some will write in a candidate or go Libertarian, neither of who will have any chance of winning. Other pious Republicans will even cast their vote for Hillary.
But how much more compelling is the argument today, three years later, in light of the horrendous behavior of the Left, their naked will-to-power and demonic “rule or ruin” ethos? And what of Trump, his incredible and unexpected victory in 2016, and then his very favorable performance as president and conservative standard-bearer? What accounts for the odd and self-immolating behavior of the Never Trump crowd, most if not all of them former card-carrying members of the right?
Never Trumpers go under many labels including Globalists, neo-Cons, “moderate” Republicans, RINOs, Democrat-lites, and the “GOP establishment.” Some of its better-known members include William Kristol, Mona Charen, the Koch brothers, John Podhoretz, Jeff Flake, Steve Schmidt, the Bushes, George Will, Bret Stephens, Mitt Romney, John Kasich, Gabriel Schoenfeld, Rick Wilson, David French, Max Boot, and others.
Perhaps, it is that many of them, along with liberal associates, are part of what Angelo Codevilla describes as the “ruling class.” These are individuals in higher-level positions in government, academia, the media, think tanks, non-government organizations (NGOs), unions, non-profits, corporations, and the courts. They compose an extra-constitutional elite system, operating outside of the usual democratic mechanisms, that, in effect, run the country.
The ruling class believe themselves of superior cultural, moral and intellectual temperament; they view with disdain the unwashed living in the vast swaths between the coasts over whom they feel entitled to rule. Although superficially embracing democracy, they prefer government by experts, or, as it may occur, judges, but reject the elected branches unless, of course, they deliver the proper outcome. They are, in other words, “progressives.”
As they say, RTWDT

Morning gang. A bit cloudy and warmer out here today. For those of you who like to pay attention, the real football game is played tonight. Right there in New Orleans. LS&U has had sense enough to cancel classes for today and for tomorrow as well, presumably anticipating massive hangovers regardless of who wins. The press is claiming Clemson is at a disadvantage since they have to fly to the game, presumably forgetting that the LS&U players are probably hitch hiking. My guess is that it’s not safe to be driving anywhere in Louisiana for the next couple of days, but if you must, be sure to offset that Texas license plate with a Geaux Tigers bumper sticker which should insure safe passage.
Other than that, not much to report on this early Monday morning. You all have a great day, and more later as it develops.
-
Morning, y’all. Looks wet and dreary for today, so I won’t get any yard work done.

Chick-fil-A’s Betrayal Cannot be Swept Under the Rug.
Practically every evangelical familiar with the circumstances was painfully aware that Chick-fil-A was yielding to LGBTQ identification of the Salvation Army and FCA as hate groups.
I fail to see what thanks Dan Cathy deserves as he continues in his abandonment of evangelicals who stood with him so faithfully.

Hey, I found GJT’s scented candle.

I wish this would happen more often: Man “excited” about going to jail after assaulting MAGA hat wearer
I guess he doesn’t worry about his job or his family. Guessing he doesn’t have a family.
“I was just trying to protect you guys because I support law enforcement. Trump supporters are communist and racist,” Ajple told the deputy. “I don’t even care that I’m going to jail; this is actually exciting.”
Has he even listened to his own party lately? Openly supporting communism and he (1) uses it as an epithet, so why vote Democrat? and (2) is abso-freaking-lutely tone deaf on what the anti-Trumpers are spouting.
Selective memory, selective hearing….what’s that saying? Without double standards the left would have no standards at all?
Or, as I say: “Liberal logic…isn’t.”

Today is Matt Bramanti’s birthday.

This election year is going to be a long one. In those moments when your popcorn supply is running low, you have to ration and you can’t leave your computer to go to the store when it is livestreaming some non-binary, commie cosplay, Antifa nitwits making fools of themselves in public again, this method will make your popcorn supply last longer…

I know y’all are going to be devastated, but Spartacus has suspended his campaign for President.

It rained all the way from Houston to Lafayette this morning. Miserable drive. Still got here at 08:00 though.
-
#25 Hamous, Tell me about it, I drove 680 miles yesterday, most of it, in the rain. From Hammond to the LA/MS line, I couldn’t see the front of my truck, not at all fun.
-
On my pre-Christmas trip to see LD & Family, I made a stop in Bryan before heading up to the Denton area.
The whole way was gray and drizzly. Gray sky, gray road, gray mist on the windshield, gray telephone poles, gray drizzle. Trying to maintain a sense of contrast, depth perception, and focus for 5+ hours was more difficult than I thought. There were times my eyes felt really tired. The pit stops along the way were a great relief. I took my time and tried to vary my visual field by looking at stuff in my car briefly before returning my gaze to the gray.

Hannity just announced that O’Keefe is going to drop his video on the Sanders campaign on today’s show.
I’m not a fan of Hannity, but he does manage to pull in guests that I want to listen to. I just wish the host would stop patting himself on the back every quarter hour.
-
Astros just fired manager and general manager.
-
I assume because of the sign stealing scandal. I suppose it was expected even though they won two league championships and one world series.
-
Wonder what that old junker truck would be worth today?
-
This is why I don’t take crochet orders.
People have no idea what they are asking for. If I give you something, it’s ‘cuz I want to or I love you. I will *never* make crochet a business.
This made me LOL. A lot. What a wissing idiot.
Warning: a few f-bombs are included

Oh, is there an egg apron being requested yet?
Color?
‘cuz I lubs ya

OK, it’s about 2 hours until game time, so time to start getting my game face on. It’s on ESPN, but since I don’t have any TV service, I’ll be listening to it on TuneIn most likely. I could go to the (not a, but the) local bar and watch, but I don’t drink and they probably would not want me sitting there not paying. I looked at Hulu and You Tube subscriptions with free trial, but I just don’t trust getting my debit card numbers out there any more than they already are, and once you call to cancel, they’ll argue with you for a week, so that’s just not worth it. So radio it is.
It’s been a cloudy, misty day, so for some reason I decided potato soup would be good in this weather. I added some chicken and sort of made it ad hoc, so well see how it turned out here in a bit.
I hear the Astros fired their GM and others today, and my guess is that there are plenty of qualified folks out there who can do that job and are just waiting their opportunity. So no panic there.
Geaux Tigers – that’s the meme of the day. I’m probably the only guy in San Saba who understands what that means or who even knows where LSU is located.
-
Astros just fired manager and general manager.
Odds on referees winning tonight’s CFC game just went up 5-1.

Anything would be fine, if not to loud, I think earth tones would work, what do you have?
-
I thought Splartacus quit the race months ago.
-
what do you have?
Thanks to the generosity of friends clearing out the craft sheds and closets of deceased mothers-in-law, dang near everything.
Earth tones are a snap. Plenty of those.

He should change his name to Sean Vannity. -
Is there something special about getting the game if you already stream? I just got home, need to look. Hope I didn’t waste money getting a six pack. 😀
-
I am so steamed at the Astros right now. A man on 2nd base stealing signs is one thing but using electronics? mOrons. Looks like i may have to join GJT watching NASCAR just to have a weekend sport to watch. I no longer watch football, I hate basketball, forget bowling and golf. I have already put baseball on my shakey list because of rules changes and the over use of “data”, BASEBALL IS NO LONGER THE GAME I LOVED. Curling, yeah that is the ticket I will start watching curling.

Not if you have a streaming service that includes ESPN.
-

There’s always cornhole 😉

#41 – I couldn’t have said it better myself. Baseball was (is) the only professional sport I still watched, and then mainly because my BFF’s nephew plays for the Blue Jays (now). And I do enjoy the strategies deployed in baseball, the analytics seem to me to enhance the game since the manager can always decide to over ride the computer from time to time. But the cheating part is hard to over come. Hopefully this is a one-off, but I seem to remember that the Astros brought a coach in from St. Louis who stole the Cards computerized player data and evaluation techniques and were fined for that as well. Maybe this will be a start to cleaning up the game before it gets out of hand.
Meanwhile, I’ve got other things to focus on right now. Geaux Coach Eaux. Geaux Tigers.
-
Ya gotta give Crane credit for firing a world series winning manager. MLB’s punishment was to suspend him.
-
I give Crane mucho credit. Tough move.
Squawk – for the traditionalists, NASCAR has/keeps them all tee’d off. So if you back off and just enjoy the surface of it, it’s still fun.
-
Drove by an In-N-Out Burger and the drive thru line was a mile long.
I guess bUrnie was right.
-
I think everyone in Lafayette went to New Orleans tonight. The restaurant/bar I always go to was dead. It’s always kicking on Mondays. Half price oysters on the half shell and 2-for-1 drafts.
-
Being a music dude I think i’ll pull for the team whose QB looks like this guy.
Still laying odds on the refs to pull it out though.
-
Git a haircut, hippie!

Both sides are gonna wear themselves out before halftime.

Wasn’t there a picture of you on this blog sporting a Billy Ray Cyrus mullet at one time?:P

Wow. Penalized a guy for making a block?
The Hell?

Lots of flags already.
Refs will hoist the trophy at the end of the game.

Dat was a photoshop mullet. There is a pic of an 18 year old Hamous with long hair, but not a mullet.

I used to have friends down in coonass country who would drag this ESPN broadcast crew out on the bayou to never be found again.
That was ESPN2H on my channel 35. I just realized I have ESPNH with a totally different crew – much better. WTH ?
Still, ESPN really is bad compared to quality of college sportscasting I grew up with.

Hippie Hamous

ESPN does that on big games. One channel does it straight and the other has multiple “color commentators” roaming the sidelines. Unwatchable.

Dang.
A Tom Petty and Clemson QB hairstyle.

Hamous on toast

That was about the time Tom released his first album. And that pic was taken in his hometown.

Caylee Hammack. Heard this on a station I only get in Columbus, fades out before I get to Sealy. They were starting a weekly polka show about 6 PM.

So we had a good visit with our Chicago customer, all is well they are only a couple years old. They own and re-rent big boom lifts 120’ or above to the rental companies around here, San Antonio and Austin. We warehouse, maintain and make ready whatever machines come thru here. They are up to about forty pieces now.
We took them to Goodson’s Cafe, now Goodson’s is not the little cafe ran by Grandma Goodson out in the middle of nowhere I happened upon after an all-nighter on an oil rig way back in the 80’s but I’m still not embarrassed to present it as a taste of Texas to out of staters. Well one was on Keto so he got rabbit food, one did order a chicken fried steak but with no gravy(!), the other ordered chicken fried steak with gravy but ended up eating it with ketchup!! I had my head on a swivel watching for pistols being drawn from all corners! OMG, how do you handle these situations??!! 😀
-
Geaux LSU!!
-
OMG, how do you handle these situations??!!
I took a supplier from Pennsylvania out for crawfish about 15 years ago. He ordered a pound of “crayfish”. I got up and walked out. I did come back after a few minutes. To this day his name is Cray.
-
73 GJT
I’m glad to hear Goodson’s is still there. I’ve been a customer since back in the 70s whenever I was in the Tomball area about lunchtime. -
Submitted for your keen observation.
-

Good heavens, man, quit distracting me.
I’m trying to focus on the game.
-
Does anyone remember the name of the restaurant in Giddings that was right on 290 before it became a freeway? Last time I remember stopping there was in the early 80s.
-
Heck, it may have been Giddings Cafe, now that I think about it.
-
Looks like LSU defense has figured out how to keep the pressure on finally.
-
290 is NOT a freeway through Giddings……..
-
Can’t place it Hamous.
-
Dang this is a good ball game. An absolute slug fest. And I’m getting it on the radio.
-
I always ate at City Market in Giddings. I’m pretty sure it’s still there. Back during the Austin Chalk boom, there were a couple of other pretty good cafes in the 80s to early 90s.
-
I think it was City Market where you walked up the stairs on the side of the building and they served on butcher paper. Old black man make some good BBQ.
-
Not ready to call it for Mike the Tiger, but it’s looking better now. Clemson has shown the ability to score quickly, so still need to play defense.
-
86 GJT
Yeah, that’s the place.
But now that I think about it, there was a good cafe on the right heading west on 290 as you came into town. It probably was called the Giddings Cafe. I think they went out of business in 1990s at some point.
-
The LSU band started playing something the on line people call “Neck.” That’s a song I’d never heard of, and I think it’s actually more of a chant than a song. Actually, I think it’s a chant they are not supposed to use, but they do. Check it out if you want to know. Learn something new every day.
-
And, congrats to the LSU Tigers. The ultimate insult – drive to the 4 yard line and take a knee to end the game. And despite not looking perfect, they did manage to crush a team with a 25 game win streak working. Longest win streak right now- LSU at 14 I think. I’m loking forward to them coming to Houston this fall to take on the mighty Rice Owls. That should be a real challenge for the Owls.
-
All I can say is LSU receivers got velcro hands.
