FIRSTICUS!
Those 2 guys are long overdue for a date with the hangman.

Morning troubadours. It’s some kind of Friday – no high school football Friday. Maybe it’ll turn into Flarada Man Friday, or maybe Ammo Grrrll Friday, who knows. The weather man is promising a cold front with rain, tormados, sleet, wind, and whatever else she can dream up, but I can’t find anything on the radar that looks threatening. So, I guess the weather will just do whatever it wants to do.
I never cease to be amazed at how much lower the Dems can go to be critical and find fault with the President. And a few Republicans too. Leave those Republicans alone long enough and they always reveal their true colors. Under the pretense of being free thinkers, their liberal tendencies always leak out. Some are so open minded that their brains fell out I think.
In other news, nothing to report. You all have a great day. Don’t forget to listen to the weather, and while you are out, you’d better pick up some batteries, bottled water, and don’t forget about wrapping the pets and bringing in the pipes. More later.
-
And no sooner do I bring her up, than here she is – Ammo Grrrll. https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2020/01/thoughts-from-the-ammo-line-306.php

Second!
The sad part about the O.C. Picture, is that it is 100% true. 72 and breezy here in Nassau Bay. Getting coffee, in the lobby, I talked to a guy that talks more than I do,….Dang!

1941 GMC 100 Series 1/2 ton Campbell Highlander Depot Hackney
The Depot Hackney body (woody) was an upfit of a GMC chassis performed by Mid-State Body Company of Waterloo NY from 1932 to 1957. When GMC introduced their first Suburban in 1936, the handwriting was on the wall for the end of the wood bodied “people carrier” in favor of all steel. This truck has been through multiple auctions over the years; R&M, Barrett Jackson, and more and its had a few different “identities” from no markings to the Wickenburg Dude Ranch. Mid-States Body went out of business in 1957 and the woody died with it as a commercial enterprise for truck chassis upfits. Mid-State offered four models of GMC Woodies: The 1/2 ton Highlander, the 3/4 ton Club, The 1 ton Surrey, and the 1.5 ton Convoyer for 14-18 passengers.

What is IHW? “I Hate Warmth” ??
Stay bundled up, feed the fire, I hope.

I think it’s wimmins.

…you’d better pick up some batteries, bottled water, and don’t forget about wrapping the pets and bringing in the pipes.
And don’t forget to grab you four or five loaves of bread.

And toilet paper. Don’t forget the toilet paper.
Reading materials, in case the power goes out. You need something to engage your brain, if’n talkin’ to yourself is a dark place you don’t want to go.

Over yonder, my high school class’s FB page is active for our reunion event later this year. I’ve only gone (partially) to a reunion before; don’t have a tremendous number of good memories from high school, and most of those good ones involve band. This year, though, I’d like to go.
God bless the folks trying to track everyone down after all these years!
Also, there was a post about the old drugstore that used to be in “downtown Pearland”. The city center has shifted a bit, and that store burned down when I was a kid. But it had the lunch counter where one could purchase a good burger and a great shake. Not many of those around any more.
-
TT: GO TO THE REUNION!! You will see people there that will not be at the next one, don’t pass up the chance to forgive, be forgiven, and reconnect.
-
FIRE – check
BOOK – check
PIPES – check, have a basement
TOILET PAPER – check, seed catalogue just arrived

WRAP PET – lost her just before Christmas (got sads)

I Hate Waldo? I Hate Windows? I Hate Winnepeg? I Hate Washing? I Hate Hummingbirds? I HATE WINTER!!
Adee, sorry about Contessa, I know it hurts.

45° in Romulus. Heading to the airport. Good timing as they’re expecting 1″ ice storm tonight. Now if the weather in Texas cooperates until I land.
-
Bad mojo, Hammy. Terrible weather predicted for Houston starting about 2 pm. Safe travels. No detours through the Middle East.
-
Cool! I land at 2:50. Just hope I don’t end up in Little Rock again. Death by the stares of a thousand BillHillies.
-
Edd Byrnes dead at 87.
Byrnes played Gerald Lloyd “Kookie” Kookson III and was the epitome of cool on 77 Sunset Strip, 1958 to 1964. I went down to the drugstore and bought a comb to carry in my pocket so I could be as cool as Kookie. The only problem was my hair was so curly I could barely get a comb through it.
-
In fact, Edd Byrnes probably sold as many combs in America as Obama sold guns.
-
Them seed catalogs ain’t nuthin but wax paper anymore. You’d be there all day.
-
Re: 77 Sunset Strip
While I recall the name, and I think I remember the theme song, I don’t remember anything about the show at all. Too young.
-
I remember the show, at least as much as a five or six year old can. I remember the theme song being responsible for me wanting to learn how to snap myw fingers. I also remember the song “Cookie Lend Me Your Comb” on the radio, and when my Dad stopped watching it when Ephraim Zimbalist Jr. Left the show.
-
Bad draw. But I’m on the plane with 3/4 of a seat.
-
At least he don’t smell like ass.
-
A double belter though.
-
Them seed catalogs ain’t nuthin but wax paper anymore. You’d be there all day.
Ours isn’t too bad plus I get the auto trader for and homes for sale magazines for free at the local stop and rob.
Yeah, life is good.
-
Terrible weather predicted for Houston starting about 2 pm.
I keep hearing midnight.
Best just to hunker up all day.

This was released by Homeland Security this morning. The link here takes you to Fast Company magazine website. Further info there.
If you use Mozilla Firefox’s web browser, you’ll want to drop what you are doing right now and update it. That urging doesn’t just come from Mozilla—it comes from the United States Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
The issue is this: Firefox versions for desktop older than the just-patched version contain a critical vulnerability that could allow an attacker to take control of a user’s entire operating system—whether they use Windows or Mac. More alarming, the vulnerability is already being exploited in the wild, thus Homeland Security stepping in with the urgent plea for users to upgrade.

Just scheduled our last long tap – the ones that require a permit process where I tuck my knee behind my head, cross my eyes and toes, hold my breath during the entire time the 18 page application is filled out, and pray 3 rosaries direckly afterward – and still have a 50/50 chance it may be rejected.
If Hubby tries to squeeze one more in before our insurance expires, there will be hell to pay.
It feels good to say “sayonara!!!!” to that !%!@#$ system. I hates it. I hates it, hates it, hates it.

#11 TT: You will find, when you go to the reunion, that people who used to be less than friendly will have changed for the better. I can’t imagine it being anything other than a huge positive event.
-
You will find, when you go to the reunion, that people who used to be less than friendly will have changed for the better.
That’s because many of them peaked in high school.
I went to my 30 year and was amazed how some of the coolest cats and feared bullies turned out to be less than stellar in later life.
-
I only go to mine so that I can tell Debbie that she’s still the best-looking girl in the class.
-
Nothing like making a sixty-something blush. Works every time. It’s a tradition. 🙂
-
Last time I got the eye-roll and, “You better back off the Shiner. It’s affecting your vision.”
-
Voted most like to……..in high school.
-
Last time I went to one of those reunion things no body showed up except for a bunch of old people.
-
Out here where the weather seems to start, I’m noticing storms forming up to our east and moving southeast. That’s the way it normally does. We don’t get a drop of rain and everything east of I-35 gets drenched. Same song, 5,000th verse. We’ll probably get cold, but no desperately needed rain.
-
I ain’t never been to a class reonion. Never been notified when or invited to. Hmmmm I wonder why that is? I really do not care one way or another. Since I graduated I have had only one person actively seek me out and all he was doing was looking for was money to bail him out of trouble. Oh wait there is Kent “B” and he and I renewed old friendship through LST.
-
#s 17 & 18 – ole Kookie was d e f i n i t e l y COOL!
-
Hmmmm I wonder why that is?
You never attended/gradjeeated?
-
You never attended/gradjeeated?
I grajimuhmutilatated with my class. Never went to a class reonion. In fact I did not get my diploma for 2 weeks after the fact. The rental company wanted the cap and gown back before they would give us our piece of fake parchment. Well I had to go home and put some clothes on before I took returned the robe/cap. All I wore to the proceedings was a pair of socks, boots, gown and cap.
-
In fact I lack just a couple hours from having a degree in, of all things, accounting. Wife #2 wanted me to get a college edumakation so to appease her I used my vet benefits to go to college. Man I hated college, made excellent grades but I hated every minute of that. She decided that was not enough to change me into her “Ken” in her “Barbie” land, so she divorced me. The moment I got served papers I quit college. Now I have respect for anyone that has their degree, but I tell ya whut, I may not have made as much money as some of you engineers (again I admire ya) but I have made pretty near as much.
-
I learned how to cipher and roll at the same time.
Hated Geometry.
Right after lunch.
WHOA! sans tobacco.

I beat the dreaded bad weather.
-
I’m with Gordo on the too many old people at reunions, and in my case they’re all old Yankees to boot.
The chances of me traveling that far for that long to hang out with a bunch of old Yankees I moved away from fifty years ago are lower than the chances of me being a Beto delegate at the next Texas Democrat convention.
-
I moved away from fifty years ago are lower than the chances of me being a Beto delegate at the next Texas Democrat convention.
oh man is that ever an invitation to do a photoshop or what?
-
I was an Air Force brat in a civilian school. It was not any of the kids fault, I just never got close to anyone in high school to care about them today. I am sure there is some legit reason for reonions besides, well whatever reasons there are I still do not care. I did not participate in pep rallies, did not care about high school sports and even now I do not understand allegiances to the old high school that teachers tried so hard to instill in me. PPPPPFFFFFFTTTT give me my homework assignment and leave me alone was my mantra..
-

Squawk I coitenly SMELL-whatcha-steppin-in!
straight As for over 10 years and wound up tellin the
Principalaka paper pushing MO RON to stick-it-where-the-sun-don’t-shine over my haircut (or lack thereof) 🙂After 4 years of extremely creative and talented teachers in grades 4, 5, 6, 7 over in Tripoli Libya……..SBISD & HISD teachers could barely keep me conscious in class!
And after NOT finishing high school – 18 months later I got my GED at TCU up in Cowtown………talk about a disappointing LACK of a challenge!!!!
$17.00 and 5 hours later *POOF* I’m a high school graduate.Hopefully that GED test is a LOT tougher today (although I highly doubt it).

Hubby and I already discussed that, and Hubby has inquired with our agent. We’ll probably keep a small policy in place, in case Hubby wants to do small job here and there until he decides to actually stop renewing his license. His plumbing license would be handy to keep active, even if he’s not registered as a responsible plumber, which is more expensive but allows him to pull permits under his name. We know some plumbers that know him well enough to help with permits if need be.
-
Based on some old comments; I had presumed you had discussed it already but thought I would poke my nose in without the invite (which I’ve been known to do at times).

Katfish
I did okay in high school grade wise, but they lost me when I had to see the counselor in year one in HS to set my education path. I wanted to take the trades route and he informed me I was headed the college route no if and or buts. I told him I had no intention or desire to go to college…… zing right over his head.
I stayed in trouble over dress code violations. The other kids in school never bothered me. I stayed to myself and that was the way I liked it. the teachers actually counseled me that I should make more friends. I told them I had one and that was all I needed. that HS had the reporting system like in elementary school that graded behavior. in classs i had As and Bs but in things like social interactions etc D-, School participation F. Good grief.

Wow Neil Peart died. Brain Cancer.

My graduating class was 67 students. I knew them all but only liked about 20 of them. 15 of those are dead now. Of the five remaining I’ve kept in touch with one, a lifelong best friend. If I just happened to be in town when they held a reunion I might go just to see the other four. I’ve never been to one yet. I did connect with a few on FB but I’m FB free for almost a year now.
My grandfather was the last son in his father’s second set of six kids after his first wife died. He had six half siblings he never knew. I asked him once why he never tried to find them. He said, “It would just be someone else I have to worry about.” Made sense to me.
Family legend says that my great grandfather’s first wife was Doc Holliday’s sister. Seemed possible, they were all from the same area of Georgia. I’ve since disproved it with census records, though. Her maiden name was Halliday and no relation to Doc.

I was voted “Hairline most likely to recede”.

53 & 54 – Certain extracurricular ‘interests’ seemed to easily defeat most, if not all, social demographic borders…..
I did not have many CLOSE friends at ALL but definitely had ‘pals’ in darn near every sub-group………Jocks, Jockettes (hubba hubba), nerds, geeks, thugs, FFA, rule follwers, and rule breakers! 🙂 -

Being a military brat we moved every couple years. I really never learned about making and keeping friends. All I knew was my “pals” or myself were going to be separated from each other sooner or later. So I coped with that by just not getting close to anyone. It ain’t nothin sad, it is just how I coped. I became my own best friend, self reliant early on and frankly it has served me well. I like people and their company but social “fame” is not a need. the only time oddly enough that I have felt part of “something” was the military, LST and church. 2 out of three are gone and I am okay with that. It is all about just moving along to something new for me.

What CFree said.
I actually still have an LLC open for legal liability protection. The as*hats that threatened to sue me more than once are still out there. It has been 12 years now, and the statute of limitations for both the criminal and civil allegations have long passed, however, their beef with me was never really settled.
I don’t need them popping up again and going after my personal assets.
-
TexMo –
Scary.
We had one customer who sued us six years ago. We countersued. He told his neighbors that we left concrete all over his front yard and that we flooded the neighborhood, and he wasn’t going to pay for the water meter that was successfully installed.
Hubby found a bunch of broken concrete pieces in the hole where his meter was supposed to go, so he dumped them in the debris pile next to his house, where the construction guys were dumping their trash. It was about 8 pieces of concrete, none of them bigger than 8″ at any longest point.
Whoever installed the previous meter had literally made some kind of weird loop around the ditch, so there was a copper line at the least expected place ever. He pulled a fitting loose, which left water spewing over the curb and into the road. It was on the city side, not the customer side, so he wasn’t even charged for the water. Hubby had to go buy the new fitting and was back at the site within the hour and stopped the leak. Flood the neighborhood? Not even nearly.
The lawyer recommended to Hubby that we drop the suit and take the loss. The guy was calling the lawyer’s office and talking to him scared the bejeezus out of the lawyer. “It wouldn’t surprise me if he took a gun after your wife,” Hubby was told.
Hubby loves me more than the money, so he agreed. Frankly, I was rarin’ to go to court and told the lawyer so. Anyone calls me a liar, and I wanna take ’em on.
-
That’s what I was thinking CFree meant, cover your personal assets.

Bet y’all didn’t know that Hoyt Axton wrote and recorded “The Pusher” made famous by John Kay and company.
The song was made popular when rock band Steppenwolf released the song on their 1968 album Steppenwolf.
Organist Goldy McJohn, who recorded the original Steppenwolf version, said the version that appears on Early Steppenwolf performed by The Sparrows, a predecessor band to Steppenwolf in 1967 at the Matrix came about when singer John Kay and Jerry Edmonton were late for a performance:
- Nick and Mars and me started that long version of the Pusher. John and Jerry’s flight was late one night at the Avalon Ballroom, so we started and then we perfected it at the “Arc” in Sausalito on New Year’s Eve in 1966.
- Songwriter Hoyt Axton did not place “The Pusher” on one of his albums until he included it on his 1971 album Joy to the World but his version of the song was released in May of 1969 on a various-artists mail-order album called First Vibration.
-
But I never expected to find Tom doing this one
Nope. You got me Brother Squawk.
Thanks.
Good stuff!
High water spandex.

Good evening Hamsters.
Waiting for the predicted storm later tonight and hoping it does move through our area fast. We could use some rain, but skip the hail part, please.
We’re in the process of replacing the rest of our pasture fencing that hasn’t already been replaced. Posts were set today along our driveway and in the paddock next to the barn. The cross fence between front and back pastures was finished two days ago, so Ruby can now be in the back pasture and see and visit the neighboring three horses. That helps her recover from losing Contessa.
As for us, thanks again dear Hamsters for all the lovely condolences. 🙂
-
The song was made popular when rock band Steppenwolf released the song on their 1968 album Steppenwolf.
I’ve mentioned before that in ‘68 I was living in Munich. Saw them there at my first live rock concert.
2500 rocking, stoned kids crammed into a venue built for 1500.
Like, dude, it was cool.
-
Well, Gang, I’m BAACK, I know that y’all missed me. I had a very interesting meeting this morning, it’s Classified at this point, but dang, big things are afoot….We’ll see. Afterwards, I went with a couple of my old, co-conspirators, to Seabrook Classic Cafe, and I’ll let you guess what I had.
I’ve had a great trip and thought about stopping somewhere on the way home, but I can’t do that. When I get ready to go home, I’m just like Joker, my Strawberry Roan, that could run like the wind, when He headed for the barn. It was all I could to do to stay on and every time I got back to the barn, the girth would be loose. -
About the reunions, I’ve never had any desire to go back and see a bunch of sanctimonious, Azz#oles, that thought I was a hick, a hayseed. But after, I became somewhat successful, in my 40’s, I thought about showing up with my smoking hot wife and show them, but now, in my old age, I’ve mellowed out and might go to one. My wife feels pretty much the same as I, but she mentioned that she might want to go to her. She graduated a year after I did and two of my best friends graduated with her, not that they’d come.
-
Super Dave

I have mixed emotions about FB, but I’ve connected with some of the people that I went to school with, most were not friends, but we knew each other for 12 years and, mostly got along. Oddly enough, one of my favorite “Popular Girls” friended me right off, but even though she was pretty, she was also pretty on the inside and always treated me like somebody in school, to the point that I noticed it. FWIW: she is still beautiful and has changed little over the years.
-
#81 Squawk, HA!!! 😀

UHUH you did not immediately deny it, I got it right didn’t I. C’mon you can tell me, I promise not to tell anyone.

Where’s the San Saba weather report from el Gordo Cantore?

One thing that stands out from that concert….
John Kay was a journeyman rhythm guitarist, at best, at the time.
The great lead guitarist would turn his back to the audience during great lead parts while John would unconvincingly gyrate around as if he was playing the hot licks.
I’m standing ten feet away watching this BS, thinking how stupid does he think I am?
Alvin Lee was the next show I saw there. Needless to say, he was actually laying down those riffs. -
I was all stoked to view the full wolf moon tonight through my telescope so I could bay with my Corgi.

No, I didn’t.
Thanks!!Probably Steppenwolf’s best effort.

Prior to his retirement, we discussed his lucrative future consulting prospects.
It’s an ugly rumor that on the way out the door he strategically stuck some chewing gum in a critical spot on the big shaker.
-
I could be mistaken, but I don’t think that woman is going to stand for him leaning over a restaurant stove and griddle, twelve hours a day.

Hoyt Axton wrote and recorded “The Pusher”
He also wrote a song for the MST3k lampooned Mitchell.
Poor Hoyt.
Fast forward to 4:12 mark for the great tune:-P

Morning gang. Cooler out here today, and we had a quick shower blow through yesterday afternoon as it was forming up to blast those to my east. It’s a no football Saturday, so what’s a guy to do? Oh well, I’ll come up with something.
I’ll be testing out my blue tooth connection with Maggie today. I may have located an internal power source for the blue tooth dongle attached to Maggie. She has a little light on the front panel that lets you know that the power is on. I haven’t tested it yet, but I think that little light is something like an old fashioned flashlight bulb and is most likely powered by about 6v DC coming off the transformer somewhere. I’ll check it out with the multimeter, but if that it right, I should be able to just splice a usb connection right into that line, and presto, it will cut on and off when the unit is activated, etc. Wish me luck.
OK, here’s hoping you all are safe today to let the pipes back outside and to unwrap your pipes. Have a great one.
-
On the road again,….sailing through Lafayette.
