Dang, it started pouring rain again, we got about an inch overnight and are supposed to get a little more today. The power went out sometime, since the kitchen clocks were blinking, this is the first time we’ve lost power since we’ve been here. That is a little unusual but they did clean up all the power lines in the area, last Summer, with the big tree saw and the Gumby Dammit Tree eater.

Here is a pretty good link for Boris Johnsons’ win.
So, the British voted to for Brexit and now, several years later they haven’t Got R Done. Since Boris Johnson won bigly, can he do it, now?

In McConnell’s lengthy interview with Hannity, he said – no less than three times – that they will be working closely with the President’s lawyers on trial process.
Asked about timelines and witnesses, McConnell said that the outcome is a foregone conclusion and that the President’s legal team will determine the extent and scope of his defense.

My heart bleeds,… Democrats Agree on One Thing: They’re Very, Very Nervous. 😀

For the last three years, therapists have reported an increase in patients who say that almost anything having to do with politics is making them uneasy, angry and hopeless, a condition that Jennifer C. Panning, a psychologist in Evanston, Ill., has christened “Trump anxiety disorder.”

Morning gang. Lots happening today, and if you watch the clip in TP’s #4, you cannot help but start your day feeling good. The dems postponed the impeachment vote on the committee late last night, presumably because there would not be proper TV coverage, but I’m assuming that something else is up. Is Nancy going to pull the plug? Probably not, but Jabba the Nad pulled another fast one on the members by screwing up their travel plans, and frankly, I’m pretty ugly looking, but if I looked as bad as Jabba I’d want to steer clear of the TV as much as I could. If anyone takes a look at what happened to the libs and socialists in the UK yesterday, it should serve as a preview of what is going to happen here next November.

I’m thinking this may be the luckiest Friday the 13th in a long time. Hope it works for you all as well.

Deep solar minimum on the verge of an historic milestone.

Deep solar minimum on the verge of an historic milestone*

    Overview

The sun is currently in the midst of a deep solar minimum and it is about to reach an historic milestone. So far this year the sun has been blank (i.e., no visible sunspots) for 266 days and, barring any major surprises, it’ll reach 269 days early next week which will be the quietest year in terms of sunspots since 1913 when the sun was spotless for 311 days. In fact, the current stretch of consecutive spotless days has reached 29 and for the year the sun has been blank 77% of the time. The current record-holder in the satellite era for spotless days in a given year is 2008 when the sun was blank for 268 days making the 2008-2009 solar minimum the deepest since 1913.

Solar minimum is a normal part of the 11-year sunspot cycle, but the last one and the current one have been far deeper than most. One of the consequences of a solar minimum is a reduction of solar storms and another is the intensification of cosmic rays. The just ended solar cycle 24 turned out to be one of the weakest in more than a century – continuing a weakening trend that began in the 1980’s – and, if the latest forecasts are correct, the next solar cycle will be the weakest in more than 200 years.

One thing I love about Spreely is that it has the ability to share a post to FB. And the Spreely that I see is highly conservative.

I just cross-posted an MRC video that is captioned: “Democrats Are Voting To Impeach Trump For Beating the Tar Out of Hillar– Er, ‘Committing a Crime’ ”

    So true.

Email was kinda spotty back then.

On this day in 1841, a flotilla of the Texas Navy under the command of Edwin Ward Moore left Galveston to support the province of Yucatán in its rebellion against Mexico. Texas and Yucatán had formalized an alliance in September by which the latter agreed to pay Texas $8,000 a month for the upkeep of the Texas fleet. President Lamar approved of this arrangement and ordered the fleet to leave for Yucatán. Moore sailed with the Austin, the San Bernard, and the San Antonio for Sisal, Yucatán, on December 13. Sam Houston, who was inaugurated as president of the Republic of Texas on the same day, had a different approach to foreign policy and promptly ordered the fleet to return. These orders did not reach Moore until March 1842, and he returned in May to Texas. During the cruise the fleet captured the Mexican merchant vessel Progreso on February 6 and the Doric, the Dolorita (or Doritas), and the Dos Amigos in April.

The writers at The Federalist have composed their book recommendations for 2019.  There are some very good ones in there, but this mini-review by Sumantra Maitra of Obama ambassador Samantha Power’s book is just perfect…

I also recommend a memoir by Samantha Power, The Education of an Idealist, because nothing exemplifies the juvenile and idealistic liberal-institutional core of the West than Power’s disastrous reign under Obama. She brings all the myopic idealism, severe daddy issues and hyper-emotional college activism in diplomacy, a job that needs stoic, cynical realism by grown-up and emotionally detached men and women. Needless to mention, her half-hearted attempted defense of the Libya misadventure was my favorite hate-read part.

Samantha Power, the Great Unmasker, should be busting rocks at the Colorado Max prison.

Samantha Power, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, was ‘unmasking’ at such a rapid pace in the final months of the Obama administration that she averaged more than one request for every working day in 2016 – and even sought information in the days leading up to President Trump’s inauguration, multiple sources close to the matter told Fox News.

Two sources, who were not authorized to speak on the record, said the requests to identify Americans whose names surfaced in foreign intelligence reporting, known as unmasking, exceeded 260 last year. One source indicated this occurred in the final days of the Obama White House.

As Guido reported yesterday, Corbyn has a history of appearing on the Islam Channel who have been censured twice by Ofcom, and fined over £30,000, for supporting marital rape and violence against women. During one interview, Corbyn said two men convicted for raising funds for terrorism ‘haven’t done anything wrong’…

It has now emerged Corbyn’s links to the channel continued well into his time as Labour leader – and after he will have been aware of the channel’s number of Ofcom censures. In 2018, the channel was once again disciplined for hate speech, including “expressions of hatred based on intolerance of Jewish people”, warning that the channel’s broadcast “had the potential to promote, encourage and incite such intolerance among viewers” after it labelled Jewish people as “tyrannical”.

In June this year, Corbyn was then billed as the “Keynote Speaker” for the Islam Channel‘s Eid Gala Dinner, which he attended and thanked the channel for “the contribution [they] make to our society”.

It is telling the leader of the left wing party of the UK, Jeremy Corbyn, could have dragged the “center” of politics so far left he could do this and still be considered the front runner to lead the nation.

That would be why a squishy, reluctant, conservative Tory with a gift for showmanship could somehow resurrect himself as the Thatcher-like hero to rescue Brittania from the clutches of Continental euro-debauchery.  Like Trump in 2016, we don’t know how Boris Johnson will govern – let’s hope he surprises us on the Right.  Millions of middle class Labour Party members had been so maligned and humiliated by their condescending socialist rulling class, they really had no place to go but with the Tories.  Again, we don’t know how deep or long that alliance will last.

Australian Arthur Chrenkoff is one of the smartest to ever write on the internet.  He quit blogging for years and has recently returned.

Whether Boris is a committed liberal Tory, or as both Sullivan and Mark Steyn describe him, an “unprincipled opportunist”, he has managed to on the one hand take a mass working class following away from the Labour Party and on the other neutralise the right-populist parties like UKIP and Brexit Party. But he’s neither really a Trump clone (whether by temperament or inclination) nor a Thatcherite (again, Sullivan)…

    plus,

Or as Steyn comments, “It would be nice to think that the Conservative Party might now think it safe to offer a bit of conservatism. But that would be too much to hope for…” The most right-wing things about Boris are Brexit (he was against, or at least very ambivalent, before he was for it) and some of his rhetorical flourishes, which truth be told have more to do with his self-cultivated buffoon image and a penchant for tabloid flourish than with any particular bigotry.

Last but not least among the pessimists is conservative columnist James Delingpole,

If I had to guess what it was that persuaded so many working-class voters – including many natural Labour voters – to come out for the Tories, I’d say it was two main things: one, a recognition that Boris was their best hope of finally getting the Brexit they voted for three years ago and so nearly had snatched away from them; two, an appreciation that the identity-politics-obsessed, unpatriotic, anti-Semitic, pro-immigration, free-unicorns-for-everyone Labour Party was inimical to working-class values. All that wishy-washy One Nation, high-spending, ‘we heart the NHS’ greenie stuff in the manifesto was a total irrelevance.

Now I don’t want to be too much of a killjoy on this glorious day of triumph. Clearly, for those of us of a Right-wing persuasion, today’s result is infinitely preferable to a Marxist/national socialist coalition under Jeremy Corbyn and Nicola Sturgeon. But let’s not pretend it represents a victory for limited government, free markets and fiscal responsibility. Nor, I fear, can we be 100 per cent sure we’re going to get meaningful Brexit. There’s something very suspicious about the way the liberal Establishment has decided that Boris is its man and got so completely behind him. I smell a rat.

I just hope and pray Johnson, like President Trump, has a few epiphanies about political philosophy in the near future.

I still partake in water meter reading in an extremely limited way.

Today I came face to face with a Ground Skink. We grew up around this most common skink in Southeast Texas.

Wikipedia, the Source OF All Human Knowledge, indicates that with the exception of the polar regions, 1500 species of skinks are found in various forms world wide. One even reaches 14 inches long.

Unsurprisingly, we also learn that Central Florida has its own unique skink – the Sand Skink.

Not to be confused with the ubiquitous, infamous Flarda Skank Lizard.

    Ground Skink:

When I was a youngun we had a cat that would catch blue tailed skinks and leave them on the doorstep all the time. She caught so many I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re extinct in Kissimmee.

A Florida student’s use of Axe body spray was so overwhelming that a school bus driver pulled over and called for help, thinking something was wrong.

Students were asked to get out of the bus in Manatee County, ABC Action News reports.

They were evaluated by a “local EMS,” the TV station reports, but no one was taken to a hospital.

The incident affected Buffalo Creek Middle School students near Parrish.

Oh, and the day started off with a rather rigorous PT session that is still making itself felt. No pain, no gain is very true in recovery. The important thing is to keep a lid on the pain part so you don’t backslide while recovering from over-doing things. A delicate balance it is.

This week Michael Berry and friends have been talking about growing up going to the local roller rink.
Today, he remarked what a shame if you met so late in life that you never had a couples’ skate with your life partner.

We never had a couples’ skate. In 1987 I was 32 and she was pushing 47. Silver Wings Ballroom skating just wasn’t in the cards for us.

However, the youngish lovers did manage to go bowling. Little did we know it would be the last games we, both, would ever bowl again. Later that night it was:
