Something for everyone? Hummingbird, buzzard, spoonbill, an egret and a puppy.   As always click the pick for larger pictures.

Sorry I have not been around. You see I am my mother’s care taker as she lives in my home. Her health has not been good for some time now and to get the pictures I post requires travel. Mom simply does not travel well and with the heat I dare not even try to take her to the swamps. I do have a pretty good sized catalogue of pictures so I will try to post more often and give Texpat a much deserved break. I am not fishing for well wishes or sympathy but I do covet prayers if you are so inclined. You couch critters (all of ya) are like a cherished family member that I can visit when I need a break. Thanks.

The Hummer wars are heating up around here since the days are getting shorter. Those little guys a fierce, defending their feeder. I’ve not been taking enough pictures lately and I try to keep a “throw-down” camera in the old Mule but it is one of those auto focus things and it is hard to get anything except a landscape picture. I was working on the trail yesterday and trying to figure out which direction was the best to proceeded and came up on an absolutely beautiful Orbed Weaver, with a web stretched across the trail. WE have lots of them and I tried to take a picture of one last week but the camera just didn’t cooperate. I’ve got to breakdown and get me a new digital SLR, or resurrect my old 35 MM Yashica. The picture would have been good because about the time I saw the spider, a horsefly flew into the web and the spider nabbed him.

We love you too Squawkie Tooter, prayers up for your mom and you guys. There are rough times taking care of family, we did it with Sweetie’s grandfather then later her mom.

    1951 GMC 350 and 1952 GMC 350 stake bodies

The ’52 in the right side of this image would mark the last GMC that Indian Motocycles (yes, no “r” is the correct spelling) of Springfield MA would purchase as they were out of business the following year. Founded in 1901 and the stuff of legend until their demise in 1953, Indian made quality and they wanted quality in their truck delivery fleet. Today, the buildings are re-purposed and the museum is gone. I visited the museum 20 years ago and had the pleasure of meeting Esta Mathos, who with her late husband were employees who founded and then ran the museum. Esta was quite the character and she was in her 90s when I first met her and she would hop on and kick start and then ride any bike she had in the museum. Sadly, Esta couldn’t maintain the museum and shortly after I first met her and visited, the museum closed and all but about two dozen of the best of the best Indians were sold. The proceeds were used to help preserve the history in a collection. Sadly, Esta joined her late husband in Oct of 2016 at the age of 101. She was quite the character and she didn’t crap from anybody. You either hated her or loved her and it was the same way for her with you. Great historical photo of a great and legendary brand that lost its fight to changing times. Had they survived another 30 or so years, they likely would be thriving today.

Hamous, you’ve got to learn to keep up…

A couple who met as two women have shared their dilemma after one transitioned to become male, leaving the other struggling to cope after years of being in a same-sex relationship.

Andy Arnold and Kate Murray have been together for several years. In 2017, Andy revealed that he identified as a man and would be transitioning.

While Kate was supportive of his decision, it has since left her struggling to cope since she is inherently homosexual and attracted to women.

The pair, who are still together and are now engaged, say they are working to ‘navigate’ the issue as a team, told their story on Wednesday to The Washington Post.

    life is really hard,

But Kate was uncomfortable with the new dynamic.

‘It felt like a lie,’ she said, explaining that she felt she could not identity as gay because her partner was now a man.

She is now frustrated that people assume she is straight because she is dating a man.

I drove out in a thunderstorm last night because I had to be there for an event. I have joined again the civic organization Greater Inwood Partnership, and we held a Meet the Candidates last night for the 2 City Council positions in our part of town. When I was in this group before, it was for their esplanade beautification projects. There was nothing I liked more than spending Saturday mornings planting knockout roses and watering newly-planted trees. I still enjoy driving past the Antoine Drive esplanades that I worked on back then. And last night, I enjoyed seeing some of my old shovel buddies and volunteers from the White Oak Conference Center Butterfly Garden.

HEADLINE: Washington couple sue Seattle for releasing career violent criminal who savagely beat them
Who is standing for people like the Richardsons, a couple who were nearly beaten to death by someone let out by Seattle-area law enforcement despite a 25-year rap sheet of violence?
    /SNIP
The Richardsons were walking around downtown Seattle on the fateful August 24 almost exactly three years ago, waiting for the start of a Seattle Mariners game. Suddenly, they were stalked by 25-year felon Nail Mulazim Muied, who was let out of prison just 24 hours earlier. According to KIRO7, Muied then beat both of them with a baseball bat, shattering James’ jaw and causing internal bleeding in Melanie.

Now they are suing Seattle and King County for not locking up this demon despite a 25-year rap sheet that included violent offenses. The local media report notes that the lawsuit seeks damages for surgeries and years of rehabilitation. KIRO7 also noted in the report that Muied is known as a mental health threat to local law enforcement, but the lawsuit alleges that this fact was ignored by authorities.

I hope they bankrupt Seattle. Unless and until the leftists are made to feel real financial (and hopefully physical) pain, this garbage will continue.

Michael Berry takes shots at the Red Flag initiative every chance he gets, reminding we could have a Lois Lerner or any number of other corrupted left wing hacks over the law to show examples how we cannot trust them. Berry continuously admits he was wrong on Trump (so was I and so do I), and trumps up most every move he makes, including the tariff issue most every single show. Let it go already.

Worse yet is people will flee that flee ridden place and come to Texas and bring their politickles too. Then other cities like Chicago will follow suit and by default “we the people” will be driven to bankruptcy trying to keep those cesspools open.

    Squawk,

Prayers for you, your dear Mom, and your dear wife in this difficult time.

Spouse and I have been there in caring for my dear Mom after Dad passed away (he required care for some time before he passed).  She lived with us for over a year, and we had help from a dear housekeeper who had worked for them and a nurse friend we met when Dad was ill.   Mom’s condition deteriorated to the point we could no longer manage her care at home.  By Our Lord’s grace a space in the Richmond hospital’s long-term care unit came open, and Mom had a beautiful  room there until she passed four years later.

Several years later we had a similar situation with spouse’s Mom in Madison who had been a widow for years and had been doing well until one morning she likely had a small stroke in her apartment and mistakenly called us in Richmond instead of her neighbor next door for help.  She left several garbled messages, as I had been out of the house that morning.  When I heard them I immediately called her, and she was able to answer the phone but sounded very disconnected.  I don’t know if she knew who I was.  I told her to call 911 immediately.

I then called spouse’s brother at work in a small town near Madison and his wife at work in a suburb of Madison.  Fortunately he was in his office, she was in a meeting and so I left a message.  Brother-in-law immediately called Madison for an ambulance from the fire station only a few blocks away from her apartment and then called his in-laws who lived in the same apartment complex who were fortunately home and went right over to his Mom’s.  Then he hit the road to Madison.   Mom recovered slowly and never recalled how she fell ill.  But she could no longer live alone, and spouse’s brother found a long-term care facility for her nearby that had several levels of care.  We in Richmond could not do a whole lot other than call and make the trip to Madison more frequently.   Spouse’s brother and wife had most of the responsibility for her, and fortunately he has a master’s degree in hospital administration.

Hang in there.  You will know when the time comes that your dear Mom’s condition exceeds what you and yours can appropriately manage.  Suggest researching facilities if you have not already done so.  God bless you all and give you strength to carry on.

What deranged individual came up with something called a fried chicken sandwich ?  I’ve never even heard of it.

Sidenote:  When I first came up here I was asked about fried chicken and waffles.  I was dumbfounded and they thought it was strange since I’m from the South, or so they believed.  I have to clarify for Yankees that Texas is the Southwest and only tangentially related to the South.  Apparently, it is some strange dish they eat in the Carolinas.

One day, around noon, Shannon and I were standing in our mother’s front yard when a local lady stopped in her pickup and started yelling frantically.  She had been delivering Meals on Wheels and said when she got to our grandmother’s front door, there was a strong smell of natural gas.

We jumped in a truck and raced the three minutes it took to get there.  I ran to the water heater in the kitchen and shut off the pilot light while Shannon threw open doors and windows.  It turned out there was a leak in the old downstairs space heater and the house had filled up with gas.  Our grandmother had advanced into enough dementia she could no longer smell anything.  It had been a big battle previous to this to get her to eat.  I kicked myself for not realizing if she had lost her sense of taste, she had also lost her sense of smell.  Much too dangerous for somebody living in an old house with space heaters.  It was shortly after that I called our aunt and asked her to come down and convince our mother it was time for our grandmother to go to a nursing home.
