It has been raining a lot here lately, It sprinkled off and on all day Monday, with only a trace of rain in the gauge, but yesterday it rained most all day and we got 1 ¼” total. It is cloudy now but is supposed to be clearing off to be a sunny day. I hope so, I really need to get out and get to work.

1954 GMC 100 Series Suburban Hydra-Matic
Owner Jerry Van Cleve has cared for his Suburban for almost 50 years. He bought it when he was a ski bum in Colorado before settling for a 8-5 job in the City by bay – San Francisco. Jerry retired to Arizona a few years and took his Suburban with him. It has recently undergone a complete restoration and repaint (still in these colors). This photo was shot 12 years ago at Treasure Island in SF Bay when Jerry was still San Francisco.

You’re….retired? Right?

Had another sleepless night. I thought for sure I’d go right to sleep when my head hit the pillow, but nooOOOOOoooo. Hubby changed my oil last night, so at 3:00 a.m. I noticed my car key wasn’t back with my other keys. One benefit of insomnia, I guess, because if I hadn’t asked him about my key this morning he would’ve driven off with it in his truck.

NEW YORK (JTA) — A 64-year-old rabbi, the father-in-law of popular Hasidic singer Benny Friedman, was hit in the head by a stone brick thrown at him while walking Tuesday morning in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Rabbi Avraham Gopin was hospitalized with “a broken nose, missing teeth, stitches on his head and lacerations on his body,” Friedman posted on Twitter. Gopin is a dual Israeli-American citizen, according to Haaretz.
“This morning, at 7:45am, my father in law went for his morning walk, like he always does. Suddenly a man started yelling at him, and started chasing him, holding a huge brick,” Friedman tweeted in a thread that also included a photo of his father-in-law’s bloody tzitit*, a ritual garment Orthodox Jewish men typically wear daily under their clothing.
I found this story on the Jewish Telegraphic Agency website. When I did a search with the rabbi’s name, the only U.S. news outlets to carry the story were the local Fox affiliate and the New York Post.
NY Times, CBS, NBC, ABC, their local affiliates, CNN, MSNBC, etc didn’t seem to think it was newsworthy. I suspect the reason is the attacker wasn’t some white skinhead, but the usual black perpetrator in New York City when a Jew is attacked. The rest of the nation doesn’t hear about it because it doesn’t fit the “white nationalist” narrative of the deranged MSM.
*This is spelled tzitzit. You’d think the JTA would be the one place where they know how to spell the name of fringes mentioned in the Sh’ma, the Jewish morning prayer.

Morning Troubadours. A few clouds out here this morning, and pleasant temps around 78 degrees at wake up time. Planning a road trip to Big D tomorrow, so I need to get gas, pack some clean underwear, take a shower etc. today. Only a couple of days until real football season gets started. Our town has been invaded by crickets. Millions of crickets covering the sidewalks all over town. Seems to happen every year for some reason. Not enough birds and skunks to clean them all up. Hummingbirds must be migrating. After a fairly slow summer, there are numerous hummingbirds hovering around my feeders, and they are drinking a full load of sugar water every day. Normally I fill them every few days just to keep the water fresh, but now they are empty every day. Haven’t seen Mr. Red Fox again after sighting him a couple of days ago, but I’m sure he’s around somewhere. OK, you all have a great day.

Had to go into the office early today. Jumped in my truck and dead battery. So i got to use my little lithium pack for the first time. Worked like a charm. Got to work and got a class up and running, then jumped it again to get me to the mechanic. If you don’t have one I would highly recommend it. Just remember to pull it out periodically to check the charge.

Good partly cloudy morning, Hamsters. Rain again in the forecast, and welcome it will be. Started off at 75 at 6 and has made it to 82 under mostly overcast.
For some presently obscure reason the Texans are dangling Mr. Clowney as some sort of trade bait. Thought he was on the strategic player list to keep.

Even several Arab countries are cooperating. The Europeans are acting like Democrats in the the US Congress. They let these terror thugs into their countries, give them money, housing and passports so they can then run off and join ISIS. We capture them in Syria and they have been refusing to take them back.
The Trump administration’s push for allies to take custody of foreign-born Islamic State fighters held in makeshift prisons in Syria is yielding only limited results, fueling mounting anger in Washington in the effort to secure long-term defeat of the terror group.
President Trump’s frustration over the matter boiled over in recent days, with the president telling reporters at the recent G-7 summit in Biarritz, France, that America won’t foot the hefty bill of jailing the jihadists at the U.S. detainee center at Guantanamo Bay. The U.S., Mr. Trump suggested, might be forced to “release” hardened ISIS detainees back into their homelands if countries such as France and Germany continue to balk at taking them back.
“It’s unfair for the United States to take them, because they didn’t come from the United States,” Mr. Trump said.

Hamas and ISIS have gone to war with each other in Gaza. Meanwhile, the Egyptians strongly warned Hamas leadership to stay out of any Iran-backed attacks against Israel. Remember that Hamas is a subsidiary of the Muslim Brotherhood, anathema to the Sunni Egyptians. Iranians are Shiite and are just as despised.
Hamas has declared a state of emergency and on Wednesday morning began arresting supporters of Islamic State and other Salafist organizations in the Gaza Strip en masse, hours after three policemen were killed in a series of blasts in the coastal enclave, according to Palestinian reports.
An unnamed security source told the BBC that the two explosions that hit police checkpoints near Gaza City on Tuesday evening were the result of suicide bombings carried out by IS and that one of the attackers had previously been detained by Hamas.

The “brain? trust” at NRG has finally figured out what the rest of us have known for two years.
Having Clowney on defense doesn’t really matter if your superstar quarterback is getting pounded into the ground, or worse, into the hospital. We need a standout Offensive Left Tackle, period.
And we need it Right Now.Andrew Luck spoke of the pounding he took earlier in his career.
Statistically, our guy has had it a lot worse.

pack some clean underwear, take a shower etc.
Must be a very special trip.

AHA! This is the time crickets make FANTASTIC Catfish bait!
Don’t take my word for it – TRY it! -
Just a great OC pic.

He got caught looking. I think his lady, in the doorway, isn’t happy with him.

Don’t take my word for it – TRY it!A&M was overrun by crickets two years that I was there. In the hallways…classrooms…you couldn’t walk on the sidewalks without stepping on them. Literally a cricket every inch or so, for about two weeks. As they were petering out, I watched a professor step on one during class while professing. I’m not a bug squasher person. I can see blood and cuts, but show me a squashed bug and I’m gagging and puking. I almost lost it in the middle of the class.
When we were kids, Dad decided to replace our large garden with a pond, which he stocked with catfish. We kids were tasked with finding cricket bait. I enjoyed fishing until the day a cricket “bled out” on my fingers while baiting a hook.
Never fished after that.

If the Dems don’t get us, the harrycane will. Of course, it’s not really a harrycane yet, but that’s just a minor detail. Hope it doesn’t hit here until after I make my trip tomorrow. Those harrycanes can be pretty tricky you know.

#13 – “Clean underwear” is a relative term you know.

So, Bones, what’s the big secret to maximizing your SS benefit?
-
A late but quite sincere good morning to all Couch Denizens.
-
Just remember, things could always be worse. You could be standing on asphalt in 100 degree heat, bending over and tying miles and miles of rebar together for nine hours a day for an Interstate concrete pour.

#21: That depends on your earnings history, how you invested any monies you managed to save, when you choose to start taking your SS distributions, etc. It is a big, confusing hairball – by design.
The analysis starts with the 4 page SS statement describing your lifetime earnings and those of your spouse, the Lovely Ms. Fay. When I get home this evening, I will post the name and contact info of the guy who did the presentation last night.
This is one of those areas where, if you are not already an expert on the subject, you come out way ahead if you speak with the pros – BEFORE YOU FILE. -
what’s the big secret to maximizing your SS benefit?
My advice would be to start collecting before you croak.
My fee. One bottle of Freak Show wine.

If they had any integrity in the state government, Texas would build a huge statue in tribute to George Mitchell and put it right in the middle of the Capitol grounds.
But because so much drilling in the U.S. is concentrated in a few areas, individual U.S. states on their own tower over the rest of the world. If Texas were a country, it would account for the most new oil and gas production in the world. Between 2020 and 2029, Texas could account for 28 percent of all additional output, Global Witness says.
Canada and Pennsylvania tie for second and third with 7 percent each. Then comes New Mexico at 5 percent of the growth and North Dakota at 4 percent. Oklahoma, Brazil, Colorado, Russia and Ohio are all tied at 3 percent a piece.
In other words, 7 out of the top 10 sources of new oil and gas production globally over the next decade are U.S. states.
“If things don’t change, by the end of the next decade, new oil and gas fields in the US will produce more than twice what Saudi Arabia produces today,” Global Witness said in its report.

Great.
But I won’t be taking it early, unless there is some unforeseen, drastic change in my circumstances. I’d have to give up too much income to stay under the earnings limit.

Hubs took his when he was 67, his age group’s normal start time. I took mine on the month when I turned 70, the latest possible start time without some penalties. I have a friend my age who started hers at 62. She was newly widowed but had a nice estate that was already all lawyered up. Everybody’s situation is a little different.

Might have been better to say that putting all their assets in a family trust before the husband died made finances easier for the widow.

Rats, weather forecast for 6 to 9 pm tonight had dwindled to 10%-15% chance for rain. Then something moved down fast, brought thunderstorm at my house right now, may scare away attendees at the event I’m heading to in 5 minutes.
Oh well, my yard & trees did need the rain.

All she does is slice them a little thick (1/2-5/8″), salt/pepper, cover with Parmesan, zap in microwave until cheese melts (20-
30 seconds).Simple.

Public Notice
The special, tiny, marble-sized Brussels Sprouts from Schwan’s taste no better than any other. Maybe worse, I don’t know, I’m trying not to think about it.
Pass the curry….puleeeze. -
When she goes all out with the Curry Chicken And Rice she’ll have all the small bowls of toppers for the Curry.
Freshly toasted SPICY HOT cocoanut, peanuts, pineapple, raisins.Makes me want to wrap a sheet around my head and wear sandals.

Looking more and more like the one eyed Dan Crenshaw is a bigger fraud than we knew at the time of his election.http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3775157/posts I guess people looked at that eye patch and decided he must be one of us without reading the fine print. Just say no to Crenshaw next time.

Trump’s latest tweet – he just can’t leave anything alone.
A sad day for the Democrats, Kirsten Gillibrand has dropped out of the Presidential Primary. I’m glad they never found out that she was the one I was really afraid of!
