Good Saturday before Christmas morning Hamsters. That lovely pic just had to be Texpat’s OC without looking at the host’s name. ๐ Presume that might be a sailboat he’s been on several times or one like it. IMHO, whoever owns it has great taste as well as a healthy bank account.

#2 Super Dave
Safe trip to you and your spouse over Christmas.
We drove over to Weston Lakes outside Fulshear yesterday to pick up a good friend whose dear husband is regrettably in a physical care rehab facility for a few weeks recovering from a fall. Took her to lunch at the Pier 36 branch there and had a lovely visit for a few hours. Our Pier 36 branch is near us on 90A east just outside Richmond. Great seafood and other dishes at each place, family run.
Traffic on 90A and I-10 heading west was heavy as in just about bumper to bumper and well under the speed limit. Presume much of the crowd on 90A was folks trying to avoid the crowd on I-10 closer in. Likely not much difference if any all the way up to Brookshire to get onto 10 that probably didn’t clear out some until Sealy at the earliest.

First, the slant six, now Lincoln’s bringing back the Continental with suicide doors. For the low, low price of $100,000+.

How can you people be up and about and doing normal stuff? Don’t you know that the government is shut down? We’re all gonna die. But the lights still work, I hear cars driving around, airplanes flying and not falling out of the sky.

After all the hand-wringing and posturing and code-pinking of 2004 and 2008 it is hilarious to watch the Dems’ TDS transform them into the party of war. I’m not convinced Trump is doing this reverse psychology bit on purpose but whatever … it’s funny as hell.

Here are some photos to put you in the spirit.

So I’d guess the OC pic was taken from a drone? Or maybe a sail-kite?
Morning, Hamsters.
-
Can someone explain the term “suicide doors”?
-
This dreadful edge ad came up while I was reading a story about the drones at a British airport. I hope never to see any American male wearing these “breathable”, chic pants. Men should never buy clothing with “chic” in the product name, anyway. (Scroll up and down to see their wares.)

I think I’ll pass on that ad. ๐

Can someone explain the term โsuicide doorsโ?
They open from the front, hinge on the back, so if you open them while moving forward, the wind hits them and tears them off the car.

Howdy all Y’all. I’ve been real busy lately (doing that 4 lettered work thingie) so I haven’t had time to chat.
I am kind of excited about the Slant-6 coming back. I really like the inline 6 engine design. Long stroke, high torque, and very reliable. Wouldn’t it be great if they would put a real hemi-head on it and boost the compression to about 9.5:1- plus turbocharging? With the electronic engine controls today, the detonation and knock would be mostly be gone. -

Hubby and I got up this morning, had breakfast at Tel-Wink Grill, then joined the Bay Area VW Club to hand out the toys we purchased with their proceeds from their Monumental Car Show. [Promo: The next one, which I think is scheduled for May 4th, will have a Star Wars theme. IIRC, one of the members is a huge SW fan and has all kinds of memorabilia, and the theme will be “May the Fourth be with you!”]
We were all assigned a family to buy for; Hubby and I got a 15 year old boy and an 8 year old girl. One of the members put together some really big, nice stockings, chock full of goodies. She and her husband made one for each of the kids on the list and then some extras.
The president of the club is an HISD cop, and he talked with the counselor at his school to pick the most at-need families, and he also arranged for 3 cars to escort us so the group wouldn’t be separated as we went through the neighborhood. One guy dressed as Santa and rode a convertible Bug as we drove around delivering gifts. It was so sweet, the smiles and grins; the attempt by one little boy to make off with a gift bag; the families coming out to the street to wave and point out Santa to their little ones. We had just finished one delivery when a father showed up with one little girl in his arms and a little boy at his side. Santa and Hubby diverted themselves to get two of the extra stockings to hand to them. Hubby was dang near tears as he walked back to the car.
We finished the morning with a communal lunch, police officers included. We got to sit with the female cop, and she told us some pretty concerning stories about some of the families she’s helped. What a sweetheart.
It was a very, very good morning.

I see the wall funding is over $15M.
People are saying it’s silly to donate, since Congress can’t use the money.
I remember me saying the same thing about the Comey legal aid fundraiser.
It ain’t fundraising. It’s sending a message. How many Congress critters see a private citizen raising $15M on his own and think about how many voters it represents?
Prolly not a lot. Critters, not voters.

I’m SO glad they’re getting away from the “church in the round” kumbayah model.
-
The church was built pre-Vatican II.
Hubby and I were concerned because Father kept mentioning “color”. We were hoping we weren’t walking into Flamingo Chapel, with tropical beach tones. Father IS from Mexico, and our parish is predominantly Hispanic, south of the border folks now. The blue and beige toned panels were originally dark stained wood.
What you can’t see in the pictures are the 2 TV screens going up on either side of the sanctuary. The problem I saw was that they were being placed so far away that if they were going to be used to help the congregation follow along with prayers, song lyrics, etc., being displayed, it was going to draw the eyes away from the altar.
I’m not a big fan of display screens, but I’m seeing them more often.

What’s the significance of the devil’s tower looking painting.

It’s the actual Mt. Carmel, in the Holy Land. Of course, the woman in the front is Mary.
Fr. commissioned it from a Mexican artist he knew. I’m wissed he spent money on that thing when we’re so broke. Fr. likes statues and images, which I wouldn’t mind if we weren’t so financially strapped. It must be a cultural thing. But there are a lot Hispanic friends in the church who agree with me.
-
I just got a robocall from St. Mary’s Prayer Center Ministry. I hung up before they gave me instructions on what to do if I want prayer.
Even God’s gotten into telemarketing now. Unless it was going to be a scam, like “$5 for the first 3 minutes of prayer…”

Supper and a show for me tonight was a salad and an Equalizer TV episode. I’m nearing the end of the 2nd season. The protein on my salad was one of the new foil-pack flavored chicken, which I don’t think are as tasty as the flavored tuna packs. But I can’t eat tuna every night.

Fortunately our parish is not financially strapped, however, when I was on the Parish Council I was always concerned about the money coming in and going out. Our priest did and still does push the limits on the finances. The Treasurer I served with expressed the same concerns. At the end of each year he would exclaim that once again God had provided for our parish.
The many things our parish has accomplished under this “new” priest (8 years) is actually quite amazing. I will say that I almost feel that I’m back in the Lutheran church with our “tithing campaign”. We actually DO need it because a rather small percentage of the parish is carrying the financial burden of the parish. When I used to assist counting the collection after Liturgy, that little fact became abundantly clear.
Speaking of renovations, the iconographer is returning next month to fill in the last vestiges of white wall in the entire temple. Apparently there is room for another 20 plus saints to go up on the walls. After he is done we will literally have no white walls left in the entire nave. The two apses have iconography as well as the main dome.

Re my avatar:
I actually took that photograph. I currently have it as a wallpaper on my work computer. My current Lead at work asked me where it was was taken. I pulled up google maps and showed him. One of the google images looked virtually identical to my photo.
BTW Blanca peak is just south southeast of the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.

Spouse has some delightful Christmas music on tonight coming from a couple of CDs we’ve had for some time. Can hear it all over the house with no problem so no need to sit in that room staring at a blank TV screen on a shelf above the CD player for absolutely no purpose. Anyway, you don’t stare with your ears. ๐
I’m in the living room on its side of the common wall shared with the room with the music, so some must be coming through the wall as well as wafting through the air.
Mariposa kitty just walked through here and is headed down the hall toward the music. Wonder what she thinks of it. Maybe not much since she’s just returned and is hanging out where I am.
We even have a real record or two of Christmas music stashed away in a back corner that he’d transferred to CDs himself. Still have a record player and lots of wonderful records nestled in another cabinet, just waiting for him to put on CDs if it can still be done. Lots of musical show tunes from the 60s and 70s still waiting for transformation, or to be played as they were meant to be since we still have that capability.

1957 GMC 253-8 Crew Cab w/front driving axle.
Lots to like about this very rare crew cab one ton GMC with NAPCO front driving axle and 347 V8 engine. Proctor Keefe built the crew cabs and generally these were applied to larger GMCs that used the same cab as pickups. I’m pretty sure this was a custom build likely for utility line or railroad service, but I have no history on this truck. All I know is I’d love to have this in my truck barn!

Good morning Hamsters. It’s the day before the day before Christmas and foggy at 6, everything outside is dripping, overcast hides another beautiful Moon setting so we have to go on yesterday’s performance. Started out at 57, and we’re still at 57.
Christmas preparations this year have gone well and with much less stress than usual. Helps a bunch to spread out doing the decorating, substituting e-cards for the snail mail cards where possible, and realizing that not having done something today does not mean that tomorrow won’t come and present time to do it. ๐

#91, 93 – I think he was talking about the UH football program. It’s been a long time since I have so thoroughly enjoyed watching a team get whipped up one side of the field and back down the other. Army turned them every which way but loose. And scored 70 points with a ball control, running based offense. How much longer will Tilman put up with Major at the helm. Things are well in Big D, and the chefs are hard at work planning the big meal. You all have a great day and be careful out there when dealing with the mongrel hordes. More later.

Great video on boat building. Sent it to friends.

Well, my trip was not a hassle. It was bustling at Kroger, but not so crowded that I couldn’t get to the dozen items on my list. Got a peach pie, which Hubs had requested, but just barely successful. There were only 2 to pick from. It’s just not a popular flavor of holiday pie. Should go well with BB Homemade Vanilla.
I am making 2 sides myself. I’ll make dressing today, and have it in the fridge to reheat for tomorrow. Got the celery and a mild yellow onion to chop up for it. Tomorrow I’ll make a batch of the much-maligned Green Bean Casserole, which I happen to like, and as Hubs is indifferent to what veggies he gets, he eats it if it’s in his microwavable divided plate.

96 Texpat, not sure what country that is in. When they take the boat outside you can glimpse a few car plates that are not American. One of the posts accused TAT Woodworking, the logo in the video, of copying a Fairlee 55 video. Going to that video the post looks to be right. On that video they say this took 13 months to complete and it is in Hamble. Maybe the building in their tourist website. https://www.visit-hampshire.co.uk/explore/hamble-p1508091

I had to make a run to Sam’s in Dothan, on the Ross Clarke circle and dang, there is a lot of stop lights on 231. When I was growing up, there were 3 stop lights between the farm house and the circle, (23 miles) one at Andrews avenue, Deese road and 123, (old 231). Now there must be a dozen in Ozark and a K-Gillion north of the circle. So, leaving Sams, I went through a couple of lights to 431, then north to a couple of pig trails and on to 134. Then in about 14 miles I went through exactly 3 stop signs and one of them was in downtown Midland city. I jumped on the 231 and it was smooth sailing. Anyway, I saw this neat old homeplace near Headland,…if that old barn or front porch could talk.

It will be a Merry Christmas in Green Bay since the Packers defeated the Jets 44-38 in overtime this afternoon. Quite a game of ups and downs, and happily spouse recorded it to watch later, which he usually does rather than watch the games live.
That way it goes a lot faster since he can fast-forward through the commercials. And of course the outcome is known, making today much more enjoyable.
Sadly, the Texans did not fare as well today.

I cleaned windows again today. I think the cumulative effect of bending, reaching, and pushing/rubbing surfaces got to me. I had to soak again tonight.
LDIL and Handsome Son came to join us for dinner. It’s been a while since we’ve spent time together.
I learned that if I’m going to roast green beans, I shouldn’t do it on the barbecue pit. The temp is too low. I wasted a whole bunch of green beans by doing it that way. They came out chewy and had a weird aftertaste. Threw ’em out. Next time, it’s the oven and a high temp. I love roasted green beans. Eat ’em like french fries.
