What the Lamestream Media will ignore; Inside Fidel Castro’s life of luxury and ladies while country starved.
With his shaggy beard and rumpled, olive-drab fatigues, Fidel Castro presented himself to the world as a modest man of the people.
At times, he claimed he made just 900 pesos ($43) a month and lived in a “fisherman’s hut” somewhere on the beach.
But Castro’s public image was a carefully crafted myth, more fiction than fact.
“While his people suffered, Fidel Castro lived in comfort — keeping everything, including his eight children, his many mistresses, even his wife, a secret,” wrote Juan Reinaldo Sanchez, Castro’s longtime bodyguard. -
We’ve always been big on Tradition and the kids are carrying on our traditions. We’ve been getting our fresh cut Christmas Tree @ Camps on Hiway 3 in Webster for 30 years and my boy, his wife and new daughter went yesterday to get their tree. FWIW; they have been getting their tree here since they got married.

Pope Frankie is getting some serious push back from a Cardinal in Hong Kong.
HEADLINE: Pope’s possible deal with China would ‘betray Christ’, says Hong Kong cardinal
The most senior Chinese Catholic has slammed a potential rapprochement between the Vatican and Beijing, saying it would be “betraying Jesus Christ”, amid a thaw in more than six decades of bitter relations.
Talk of a deal between the two sides has been building for months, with some saying the diplomatic coup for Pope Francis would be resolving the highly controversial issue of allowing China’s Communist government to have a hand in selecting bishops.
But Cardinal Joseph Zen, the 84-year-old former bishop of Hong Kong, has been an outspoken critic, saying any agreement where Beijing would have a hand in approving clergy would be “a surrender”.
Maybe the pope is a little naive, he doesn’t have the background to know the Communists in China,” Zen said at the Salesian school in Hong Kong where he still teaches. “The pope used to know the persecuted Communists [in Latin America], but he may not know the Communist persecutors who have killed hundreds of thousands.” -

My lib brother posted on FB a not so flattering pic of The Donald, with the caption “Why is he afraid of a recount?” and his note “His hypocrisy is appalling!”
Almost snorted my coffee through my nose on that one. -
Late good morning Hamsters. Errands took up the early morning starting a few minutes after 8. Light rain overnight and a few spits showed up, but most of the rain is already east of the Houston area. Very windy now, enough to cause a couple of brief power outages here lasting maybe a couple of minutes total. Must be tree branches banging into powerlines. The mugly and 72 at 6 has climbed to 76 now, and the sky is clearing from the west. Show’s over.
Went off to the nearby independent car repair shop first thing to have a turn signal bulb replaced on Lucy, our 2010 Lucerne. Right rear one had been nonfunctional since Wednesday, and we had the long weekend to get through. Turns out the bulb was fine, but the contacts were not. That was fixed, no charge. Also needed the windshield wiper blades replaced, as they were the originals that now left big streaks. New model of those replaced what was there, and they were $64.84 the pair before the AAA discount the garage honors. We’ve been doing business with this fine company since it opened in 1985.
Now it’s off to the Brookwood Community gift shop in the Gallery Furniture store on TX 99 to get poinsettias. Then to the feed store for grain for the mares. Once home it’s start in on Christmas decorating that will go on for a few days as energy permits. Best time of the year other than springtime in Texas. -
Heh.
Liberal FB friend posted a meme about the pipeline protesters: a tweet from “God Above” above saying “Thou shalt not pepper spray protesters.” The following conversation ensued:Kent A. Vining No drinking water is being endangered. The river that runs thru the reservation is nowhere near the pipeline. There is already a pipeline on the land, this one is being built on top of it. Its 2 miles away from the Reservation on private land. Federal archaeologists took years to investigate and confirm there are no burial ground or archaeological sites on the pipeline right of way. Police have been fired on by the protesters, Molotov cocktails thrown at them, and two trucks were burned on a bridge destroying its structural integrity and will cost millions of tax dollars to repair. Fences on private land were cut in an effort to stampede buffalo grazing there, resulting in the death of several buffalo. There’s more to this story than touchy feely stuff and biased news is not reporting all of it.
Michelle Ashley another way to think about this is, the technology is available now, for us to no longer even need to be pumping oil
Kent A. Vining If you know a way to get food from Kansas to New York without using oil, I’m willing to listen.
Michelle Ashley google is your friend
Kent A. Vining Tried it. Found nothing. Same thing when I tried to find a way to get food from the USA to Africa.

Yep, I had a newish FB friend who turned out to be a nutcase over that pipeline-on-Indian-land story. I think she was even going up there from Florida or somewhere to help with the protests. Until a tribal leader said white people should not come there, it was like being colonized all over again.
I saw that some of the protesters wanted to kill the pipeline but get the gruberment to build them some windmill/turbine power sources. When I inquired, why no outrage over killing birds and bats with a windfarm, I was suddenly unfriended. -
Yah. She deleted the post, and another one that intimated that Pro-Life people are anti-adoption.
There’s a lot of lies going around about that protest. -
Limbaugh is floating the idea that the Ds are laying the groundwork for impeachment if/when Trump starts to undo the damage of the JugEars admin. They will claim that his election was illegitimate, therefore all his actions (when they run afoul of D policies) are illegitimate.

#11 Bones, actually we’ve spent all morning fine tuning the Jaguar Control system, to get the weird Shock Pulse that they want to use on the Manned Vibration Test Bed. We’re going to shake up a half a dozen astronauts in January. Until then Kelly the Crash Dummy will be our guinea pig.

HEADLINE: While presidential recount continues, Clinton lawyer wants GOP to stop North Carolina recount
/snip
Even after Clinton conceded and the Obama administration gave a clean bill of health to the presidential election, Elias announced that the Clinton campaign will participate in a recount. “It’s fundamental to ensure that every vote is properly counted,” he insisted on Saturday.
Not so in North Carolina. “Cooper’s lead in NC is now 9,133,” Elias tweeted Monday. “McCrory should concede.”
/snip
Three weeks after Election Day, McCrory is still fighting for his political future in the Tar Heel State and the governor’s mansion is still up for grabs. Though McCrory Cooper by less than 10,000 votes, there’s widespread concern of foul play.
Republicans are specifically calling for a recount in Durham County, where 90,000 early votes suddenly appeared late on Election Night to give Cooper the victory. -
Pension and bond debt in Texas:
In years past, those piggy bank raids by retiring workers were usually under $100 million, but this year, they’re up past $500 million, according to the most recent report.
A new study by Truth in Accounting offers another measurement confirming that Dallas is hardly the only Texas city in trouble.
The group looked at the 20 largest cities in the country and found that Dallas had the fourth highest debt per capita, Houston the sixth, Fort Worth seventh, and El Paso 15th (El Paso and Houston look much worse, when you include bond debt, which TIA mostly leaves out).
However, unlike the Moody’s study and the Rauh study, both of which re-calculate debt using their own standards to be sure of apples-to-apples comparisons, the TIA study goes the more common route of using the figures found in the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.and,
The Texas Legislature has caused this problem by stripping local control, and it has no incentive to restore control.
Indeed, state Sen. John Whitmire, who speaks for the Houston firefighters, is telling the public that the worst case scenario is that “this whole thing will come crashing down, and we’ll play right into the hands of those who would like 401(k)s or defined contribution plans.”
That’s closer to the best case. The worst case is Detroit. -
I got my basic table tree set up, on a proper table skirt, and with a proper snowy white drape around the tree stand. It’s a white tree, so after Christmas last year, I ordered 300 white-cord mini lights for it. This is first time they have been used. Even for this small a tree — I thought it was 4′ but the box said 3′ and I measured it at 3′ once it was assembled — 300 lights was not really enough. But it will do. I wound maybe 30′ of small gold garland around it, which will help by reflecting the lights. Now my back is killing me after all that leaning over. I doubt if I will get much more done on it today. After I get my musical instrument ornaments on it, I’ll post some pix.
We still have leftover sliced ham and turkey, so I just made some sammiches on fancy bread. Mmmmm, good. -
According to this article,
ClintonSorosStein has missed the deadline in PA to order a recount. Even if, by some obscene cheating scheme, the Ds manage to steal Michigan (16) and Wisconsin (10) it won’t be enough as Trump will still have 280 E-Votes. -

This Advent we have a focus on prayer for the healing of the nations.
Feeling somewhat guilty for unofficially resigning about two years ago from one of my choirs, I agreed to be the cantor for Wednesday night Advent services.
I did so without seeing the music. The director said he saw it performed in Chicago this summer at one of the giant Lutheran churches up there and thought of me.
Good grief.
This thing is four verses that are four pages long, each. And the words are all names of nations…except the refrain. Which is the fifth page. And there are subtle tempo changes throughout (my Achilles heel, as I sing by ear – I don’t count).
After the first private rehearsal my mood was shear terror. After today’s rehearsal my confidence level is 3/10.
His confidence level exceeds mine for sure. “You’ll be fine.”
And it starts this Wednesday!
I’ve decided my close friend is actually evil at heart, and is extracting his revenge for my quitting that choir.
Say a little prayer for ME, eh? -

I’m going to tell him I need a three-black-chicks backup group.
They can figure out how to sing Sierra Leone, Eritrea, and Czech Republic, in tempo. -
Why can’t the totalitarian communist Chinese just leave the Tibetian Buddhists alone? They are certainly not going to threaten anybody are they?

A fabulous lady in our ward (church congregation) and her husband took off to Utah for a family emergency. Her grandaughter was hospitalized and in serious condition. Unfortunately the little girl’s condition is such that she is not expected to make it. Somehow she got strangled in one of the blinds’ cords while playing. Her mother did everything when she found her daughter but hodpital exams showed severe brain damage and the family is now in talks about donating her organs in order to help another infant in his or her ordeal.
The story made it to FoxNews, obviously due to the little girl’s father bring a Running Back coach for BYU Provo. I got very choked up to tears reading it. The lady in our ward we have known for years and is an absolutely marvelous human being. Note that this lady is divorced and remarried to her current husband so even though he is not the little girl’s biological grandfather, he acts like grandpa in every way to his wife’s grandchildren. He’s a really good man.
I’ll link the FoxNews story I read and you may sll read it at will to know what’s going on. Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers.

An excellent find.
While we were stuffing our faces with mashed potatoes this past Thursday, we missed the announcement of a major scientific discovery—a sacred capital city of ancient Egypt that had been lost for 7,000 years.
The Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities announced it excavated parts of Abydos, a “lost city” they believe dates back to 5,316 BCE and could have been part of the first capital of one of the earliest Egyptian empires. So far at the dig site, the team has uncovered fragments and remnants of houses, tools, utensils and at least 15 elaborate tombs belonging to royals. -
Packers revived tonight and won 27-13 over the Eagles in much more characteristic fashion. Texans visit Green Bay on Sunday.
