Well, a liberal arts college fixed one girl, anyway:

Like everyone who cons themselves into attending a liberal arts college, I was captivated by the idea of changing the world by immersing myself in a diverse pool of academic thought, theory, and action. Boy, was I wrong! After my four-year stint at university, I was transformed from a plucky, young, free-thinking free spirit into a cranky, old, get-off-my-lawn conservative.
It all started with a quiet disdain for political correctness, a seed that grew—through the miracle of college—into a giant beanstalk. I quickly learned that, at liberal arts school, the general aim of each class was to identify something problematic, discuss it, and then refuse to do anything about it. We were expected to offer solutions, of course, but the only acceptable answers were noncommittal and intersectional. Any attempt to get to the actual root of a problem was generally seen as problematic too, and a politically correct policing was instituted to hinder any real solutions of important issues. Most group discussions devolved into us asking one another how to ask questions about something problematic without being problematic.
/snip
I needed some way to cope with all this. So I chose weed. I was typically high before, during, and after all of my classes. My best friend was the campus dealer, so I spent countless nights smoking spliffs on his dorm room floor and watching his clients stumble in and out.
Most of these clients are now working in New York finance or DC politics, which is what made me realize I’m a fan of limited government. The stupidest stoners I know are all on a fast track to becoming the future diplomats of the world, and I do not trust these goofs to make important decisions on our behalf. Their power must be constrained.

Well, THAT ‘splains a lot, does it not?

I took on lots of debt attending college, but I never learned anything about how to manage it. I didn’t learn about taxes either, but I was lucky enough to get a job right before my student loan payments kicked into gear. I accepted a corporate gig with a salary that felt exorbitant and immediately began plotting when I could move out of my parent’s house. But everything changed when I got my first paycheck, and to my admittedly ignorant shock, I realized a helluva lot more money was missing than I anticipated.
“Income tax” seems like an abstract alien concept when you’re not making any money, but it becomes much more real when cash has magically disappeared from your paycheck. I couldn’t believe my peers and I had spent so much time shaming conservatives for wanting lower taxes. After making an income, the tax I paid on it was suddenly all I cared about. And stopping government waste seems way more important to me now than funding government programs.

At least one student got an education worth having, anyway.

Good hump day morning Hamsters. We have a mugly 76 with definite prospects for a cluster of showers coming up from the Gulf that should come over us and at least the west side of Houston. Presuming of course that it doesn’t expand greatly.
Well, the opening commentary on liberal arts colleges is right on, and gratefully at least one woman smelled the coffee and woke up. Indeed, that first paycheck with income tax, Soc. Sec., and perhaps state income tax taken out does provide a virtual 2 x 4 upside the head. Reality is indeed a mixed thing.

When the cold, hard hand of reality and taxes slaps the face of the freshly indoctrinated college student receiving their first paycheck, magical things can happen. The whole gamut of emotions gush forth as they realize that much of what was taught turned out to be lies.

HEADLINE: Hillary’s Headhunter: Sleazeball Ken Salazar
    /snip
At issue: How rancher and reported Salazar business associate Tom Davis profited handsomely from the Bureau of Land Management’s Wild Horse and Burro Program. Not long after Salazar took office, Davis paid $10 each for more than 1,700 federally protected horses who roamed on public lands. He then turned around and sold them for slaughter near the Mexican border for $154,000, despite signing a contract prohibiting him from doing so.
When Gazette reporter David Phillips (now at The New York Times) asked about the controversy at an Obama election night event in November 2012, Salazar snapped:
“You know what, never do that. This is a — this is the Obama — You know what, if you do that to me again, I’m going to punch you out. OK? Don’t ever, ever, from the Gazette or anybody else do that to me again. Set me up. You know?”
Caught on tape by Philipps and another witness, Knuckles Salazar issued an “apology.” But neither he nor Davis, who said he had previously hauled cattle for Salazar for years, ever answered for their actions. An Inspector General determined Salazar’s department “failed to follow its own policy of limiting horse sales and ensuring that the horses sold went to good homes and were not slaughtered.” No penalties, no prosecution, no nothing.

Ken Salazar, along with Bill Richardson and a host of other big wig D operatives need to be hung by the ankles and whipped with a broom handle until dead.

Well, I see where the Comical claims that Rice made a presentation to the Big XII for membership in their conference. This comes as a surprise to me since the sheer numbers for dollars required to run large, state funded athletic programs is staggering; the recruiting standards are often questionable, alumni support is necessary (the entire living Rice alumni base would not fill up the end zone at Rice Stadium), and many other concerns. But, I’ve never known the folks at Rice to turn down a challenge – as JFK said at Rice Stadium when announcing his moon shot idea – why does Rice play Texas – not because it’s easy…..
I’ll predict that this will go nowhere, but I think it does announce that Rice is rejuvenating it’s athletic department standing and is planning to move up. It’s hard to climb out of the hole after having been down, but if anyone can do it, Rice can. All it takes is money, and lots of it.

The banner on Drudge is linked to this article somehow trying to make the case that Cankles is not stable because of the pillows she insists on having on the couch or chair. This is not productive as it is a non-issue with respect to the office which she seeks and I pray that she does not gain. I would suggest that the pillows are there is because she has very short thighs. A standard couch or chair is too deep and it makes them uncomfortable. I have short thighs and find that most couches are uncomfortable.

More on Trump’s new Campaign Chairman, by another who would know him best.

I am hardly “anti-Trump.” This is not about Mr. Trump. I have already publicly said I will vote for him without hesitation. I truly hope the changes made at the campaign will result in electoral victory on November 8th.
But, I believe that Mr. Bannon’s relationship with the Trump campaign is something that Breitbart News needs to reveal now and thoroughly. And I mean everything.
When did the advice from Bannon to Trump begin? Was it during the primaries? If so, how did Bannon’s relationship with Trump influence the site’s coverage of other Republican candidates? Was Bannon’s relationship disclosed to employees? When story assignments were distributed, did the writers at Breitbart know that the Executive Chairman was working with the Trump campaign?
Finally, at the end of this campaign, will Bannon return to his role? If Trump wins, would that be appropriate? And if Hillary wins, same question.
This is why Andrew Breitbart hated the commingling of DC journalists and politicians. This is what he meant by the “Democrat Media Complex.” This is why he inspired so many of us to work and fight for him. This is why he was so great. His legacy, and the site that bears his name, deserve better.

The consensus before was that Andrew was rolling over in his grave at what his news creation had become.
He’s likely spinning at high revs now.
This is what has gone wrong with the Conservative movement—its being perverted by the very same people who perverted the Republican Party into the Establishment Crony Capitalist swamp it has become. Back scratchers, rent seekers, corrupt cronies, and Celebrity Conservatives making bank on their radio shows and media appearances rather than a dedicated group of people, like Andrew, dedicated to advancing the idea of Conservatism thru transformation of the culture in general, and especially in the media and Washington DC.

Lefty Lizzy Warren may have some competition:

Curt Schilling, onetime Boston Red Sox pitcher and outspoken conservative, would consider running against Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) in 2018, he said Tuesday.
    /snip
The host pushed, asking what office Schilling would consider: “State senator, state rep?”
Schilling answered: “I’ve thought about it, and I think one of the things I’d like to do is be one of the people responsible for getting Elizabeth Warren out of politics. I think she’s a nightmare. The left is holding her up as the second coming of Hillary Clinton, which the Lord knows we don’t even need the first one.”

I didn’t go to Breitbart directly, but was taken by link to this story about another “mysterious death” surrounding the Clintons:

Gareth Williams was 31 years old when he was found naked, dead in his own bathtub in Pimlico, just a few minutes walk away from Britain’s Houses of Parliament.
Speculation has been rife ever since his death in September 2010 about the circumstances surrounding his death. A Metropolitan Police investigation revealed predictably, though suspiciously, that Mr Williams’ death was “probably an accident”. This was despite an initial inquest concluding that his death was “unnatural and likely to have been criminally mediated.”

Okay, he’s dead. He’s stuffed in a bag. In his bathtub. Yep, that sure sounds like an accident to me…

The inquest was barred from discussing Mr Williams’s work in public. But sources say he was helping on the joint monitoring network Echelon, which uses sophisticated programs to eavesdrop on terrorists and criminal gangs, particularly those in Russia.

A source said: “The Clinton diary hack came at a time when Williams’s work with America was of the most sensitive nature.

Mr Williams had no alcohol or drugs in his system when he was found, and the inquest found that he would not have been able to seal himself in the bag alone.

Last night I mentioned that I LOVE debating gun control with Liberals, especially Liberals who are mental health professionals.
She first wanted to determine if I thought background checks were unconstitutional, and I replied in the negative and said that since the system relied on information already in a database, I have no problem with it. I then provided links to two stories, one that showed that Dylann Roof was able to buy a gun even though he was ineligible to buy one due to his reported mental health issues, and another that shows the FBI failed to process 290,000 Instant Background checks last year and that perhaps we should join together in calling on the Obama Administration to strighten out the management of the system so that we can handle the load we have now before we burden it with more requests.
She then asked we we could join together in reforming this broken system, to which I said yes, lets do, and said that where we should focus is where the highest body counts were in the mass killings——in which the killers were mental health clients under the care of a therapist at the time they bought their guns.
    That went over well.
It ended with me saying “So, it looks like mental health professionals are standing in the way of common sense gun regulations that would keep guns from getting into the hands of the wrong people.”
Did I mention the best part?

Regarding Hildebeast and the pillow behind the back thingy, if she isn’t very tall the pillow requirement would not be unusual as her legs would not be long enough to let her back rest comfortably against the back of a deep-seated couch or chair and still keep her feet on the floor. She also might have problems with spinal bone density thinning that makes lack of proper back support painful.
I can relate, as when I stand up straight I’m still 5’2″. But I can’t comfortably sit in deep-seated couches or chairs without a back pillow or two depending on how large they are. Airline seats are even more miserable without a pillow behind my back. Since only overseas flights now provide them, I bring my own. The chairs and couches in our house, with spouse’s recliner being the exception, are comfortable for me.

#33 – I’ve just got to believe that in order to deprive anyone of a constitutional right that a legal proceeding of some kind must occur. Just because some mental health professional (which could include just about anyone willing to pay for a license as a “counselor” or some such nonsense) thinks another is impaired is not sufficient evidence to strip that individual of a constitutional privilege. Normal people go crazy from time to time, social and financial pressures can change peoples’ behaviors, things happen. Just because someone is dealing with problems does not mean they should be denied constitutional rights. People with serious mental problems should be processed through a court system of one kind or another before determinations as to suitability for limiting constitutional rights are concerned. I know one impaired girl who was impregnated by some guy, and the girl had no idea what was happening to her, how to deal with her pregnancy, how to take care of herself much less a child, yet the doctors were unable to tie her tubes because to do so would deprive her of her reproductive rights. Go figure.

    Your homework assignment
Someone explain to me or give me provable examples of Trump’s sleeziness outside of the primaries? All he did was the time honored political attack of putting his candidate on the defense with really way out there accusations.
    And corruptness?
    Let’s look the word corrupt?
    corrupt
    adjective
1 a corrupt official | corrupt practices: dishonest, unscrupulous, dishonorable, unprincipled, unethical, amoral, untrustworthy, venal, underhanded, double-dealing, fraudulent, bribable, criminal, illegal, unlawful, nefarious; informal crooked, shady, dirty, sleazy. ANTONYMS honest, law-abiding.
2 a corrupt society: immoral, depraved, degenerate, reprobate, vice-ridden, perverted, debauched, dissolute, dissipated, bad, wicked, evil, base, sinful, ungodly, unholy, irreligious, profane, impious, impure; informal warped. ANTONYMS moral.
3 a corrupt text: impure, bastardized, debased, adulterated. ANTONYMS pure.
I am not seeing how Trump fits the definition of corrupt? Egotistical yeah but corrupt? Nope.
The guy is a business man and frankly I do not see any evidence of being corrupt. And it has already been proven his employees on the whole like him as a boss. His kids if he were as corrupt as he is being accused would be heathens. I am not seeing that either.
I have listened to Trumps policy speeches etc and once again I do not see where conservatives have anything to gripe about Trump. So after you finish telling me how corrupt and sleezy Trump is set aside your personality differences and show me how his policy positions are wrong and give me examples where his policies as stated are wrong.

I cannot imagine a circumstance that would cause me to prefer hillary over anyone else running against her in the general. Its been long held that the State can put limitations on the exercise of an Individual Enumerated Right. We cannot, for instance, yell “FIRE!” in a theater (to use Jefferson’s example). Even Scalia noted that the Government can and should impose regulations necessary to insure public safety.
First, no one is talking about a permanent ban or outright denial of a right to purchase a firearm for mentally ill people, only to list they and their therapist on the Background Check list and should they try to purchase a firearm, their therapist is notified that the purchase was being attempted and queried as to what they think the final determination should be. The Client would also be notified and would have recourse in the courts to file an action against the therapist.

I have an old book on the history of cattle ranching in Florida. The earliest account of Brahmans in Florida is from A.C. Ambler in a letter dated December 15, 1858:

We have purchased a stock of 3000 head now running between the head of Pea Creek and Kissimmee, and from this stock we shall take the best cows, take them to the praire, as many as we can accommodate and place Brahmin bulls with them … I have purchased four grade Brahmin bulls, the best I could procure … Other bulls are a cross of Brahmin and Durham, Devon and Ayershire, no scrub blood in them.

He also proposed pure European stock was worthless in Florida:

We all know it is hopeless to try to improve the quality of our cattle by introducing the English races, as the climate is fatal to them; while these Asiatic cattle are quite at home with us, free from all diseases incident to hot climates.

In a few years, Brahman traits began showing up in herds in Louisiana and East Texas allegedly traced to Shanghai’s Indian bull.

I will add that I do understand all of y’all’s feelings on the issue, you are entitled to them and I’ll not say that you are wrong, it’s just that I have two fine kids and a grand daughter and I WILL NOT go gentle into that good night. I’ll fight to my last breath to try to salvage this once great country that my daddy fought for in WW II.

The Euro breeds still suffer down here. Crossing them with Brahmans help immensely.
Over the decades Brahmans would fall out of favor but the commercial cow men would eventually come crawling back – needing to “put some ear” back in their herds. In off periods Fred would try different bull breeds on his brahma cows, finally settling on the Braford (Brahman/Hereford) cross. Brafords are still one of the most popular cows…excellent mommas, good bags with plenty of milk.
Nothing prettier than a tiger stripe Braford, in my opinion.
One must congratulate the Angus guys on their marketing success. But for the life of me I cannot understand it. I refuse to buy it and am thankful my local store offers an alternative. Never seen meat shrink up like that branded Angus does….leave it in the package for a couple of days and come back and pour off a gallon of water.

Fred wouldn’t buy a bull of any breed from anywhere north of about Crockett. Says he’d seen it too many times people trying to move North Texas bulls down here and waiting two or three summers hoping they’d become acclimated to the lousy climate.
So miserable they couldn’t service enough cows to pay their keep. Standing in the damn pond while those pretty Brahma girls were shaking their booty at them.

Brahma cows don’t even seek shade till it hits about 99-100.

    Where do Longhorns originate?
I read that they are well suited to hot southern environments.

    Wiki-

The Texas Longhorns are direct descendants of the first cattle in the New World. The ancestral cattle were first brought over by Christopher Columbus in 1493 to the Caribbean island of Hispaniola. Between 1493 and 1512, Spanish colonists brought additional cattle in subsequent expeditions.[4] The cattle consisted of three different breeds; Barrenda, Retinto and Grande Pieto.[5] Over the next two centuries the Spanish moved the cattle north, arriving in the area that would become Texas near the end of the 17th century. The cattle escaped or were turned loose on the open range, where they remained mostly feral for the next two centuries. Over several generations, descendants of these cattle evolved the high feed- and drought-stress tolerance and other “hardy” characteristics that Longhorns have become known for.[6][7]

I guess before Columbus arrived the locals ate a lot of chicken and fish.

I’ve never seen any indication that Native Americans ate horses, before they finally went extinct on the continent.

Digs in western Canada have unearthed clear evidence horses existed in North America until about 12,000 years ago.

We’re watching the track and field events tonight in Rio with the diving events coming up soon. Totally exhausting just watching the runners and jumpers but especially so the decathlon events in which an American currently leads. Can easily comprehend why some of the runners collapse just across the finish line.

I can see a couple of reasons, but mainly its because I don’t want to see the scumbag elected and I don’t want the methods he used to be rewarded.

OK, your choices are A: Trump; B: Clinton. Which do you not want to see elected worse?

Actually, I can choose none of the above.
As long as we allow them to continue to run candidates in a situation where “If you don’t vote for this one there will be dire consequences.”, we will continue to live under the threat of dire consequences.
The candidates on both sides have been getting crappier and crappier.
Next go round I do believe our choices will be between a child molesting axe murderer and a child murdering axe molester and folks will be telling me that I must vote for the axe molester because the other guy is worse.
