Thinking about fertilizing my lawn (weed patch) to take advantage of the promised rain later in the week. Is that sort of like washing your car and then having rain? My ongoing cactus and brush project is progressing – it took about a year to cut down most of the stuff I wanted to clear out, and now, since I cannot burn the piles due to city codes and air quality concerns, I’m having to haul it all off to the city dump where they burn it – air quality is obviously not affected when the city burns stuff, you know, but that’s like trying to explain to a smug Pirus owner that his car actually runs on coal. Anyway, after about 8 loads of brush to the dump, I can see the ground for one of the 3 piles that I created. Who knows, if I’m diligent and work hard, I might get it all moved before winter sets in again. About that fertilizer, forget it. If the grass starts growing, I might have to start mowing it.

I mowed my back yard today. The grass isn’t growing (up) yet, but the weeds were. About half of the back yard is my reclamation project, so it’s not surprising that it would have a lot of weeds. Until my transplant San Augustine chokes out the weeds.

Weather was perfect for it. Needed the exercise. Woo hoo!

Aha, Sarge and Super Dave are minding the store while the rest of us take advantage of this glorious day to do necessary but largely mindless stuff that’s piled up. In my case it’s getting the last of the winter decorations put away and hauling out springtime stuff along with a few bunnies and Easter eggs.

This switch out chore was delayed by getting tax info organized and hauled off to the tax accountant. Today there was no excuse.

But oh the details!! This is winner take all, so at 51%, Cruz gets all the Kansas delegates. Yeh, it’s only 21 delegates, but if this is the trend, oh my…

    Yah I know.

If Donald wins the Nomination, all the Democrats who are voting for him will vote for Hillary.

  20. Sarge Avatar

Its starting to look like a bloodbath in kansas:

    Ted Cruz 51.0%
    Donald Trump 24.4%
    Marco Rubio 14.3%
    John Kasich 8.9%
    Other 1.4%

Rubio is inching up, Cruz is increasing his lead, and even Kasich might crack 10%.

  21. Sarge Avatar

What’s important to understand here, is that before the last debate, Trump was polling 10-15% higher than Cruz. To go from 10-15% in front to 25% behind is a yuge change.

The retreat went well today. I had one girl fall to the ground laughing after her turn in the blindfolded obstacle course. One of my really bad attitude girls actually called her work…she was going to leave at one but asked her boss if she could stay longer. She stayed until four! That was quite an unexpected but pleasant surprise. Another girl said she had been afraid to come since her brother told her shed be bored, especially since she was (supposedly) antisocial. She was so excited in the afternoon – and she had made 2 new friends! We had a lot of really good sharing and a lot of spiritual growth. It’s been fun and helpful to us all. The holy spirit was with us today!

Now…I get to unload the crap from my car.

    No.

Its Delegate math. Delgates are needed to win the nomination. If you don’t count the delegates, you don’t win.

And I never said I expected Ted to win all of them. But delegate wise, he got more tonite than Trump did, beat the ever loving tar out of him in a state Trump was supposed to win, came within 5 points of him in two others. In the States that Ted did lose, he got enough votes to basically tie Trump in delegates.

Rubio will quit after he loses FL. After that, Trump only wins maybe a couple more States—but most of the rest of them are Winner Take All, so it won’t do him much good.

    Phil:

After the Jerry Springer Show Republican debate this week, I came to a basic conclusion. It is conceivable (just barely) that Donald Trump might actually be the President our country needs. But it is an incontrovertible fact that he is a self-absorbed, egotistical, classless, braggart. His sole response to any substantive question of policy is: “I’ll hire some experts”. His speeches and responses to questions give every indication that he knows nothing about foreign affairs, economics, law or most social issues – he is driven solely by a desire to “make deals” and lower his golf score.

I’ve voted in every Presidential election for the last 40 years. And, everytime I’ve voted for the Republican – although it’s sometimes been painful. But if Trump is the Republican nominee, I will be skipping that box on the ballot.

Everything is dripping so much so it looks like we might have had a light rain but didn’t. No puddles, just big wet spots on the driveway and sidewalk give a clue. Sunrise will usher it out rather quickly.

Interesting that today’s National Weather Service prognostication for the rainy week has fallen in line with what David Paul and cohorts on Channel 11 had been showing a few days ago when the nasty storm system was still in the Pacific. Its rainfall percentages rose to agree with the TV station’s, and the weather advisories also. Does not bode well when they agree.

There’s no end to Obama’s jackassery. This administration is relentless in using the authoritarian bureaucracy to crush freedom and kill off the middle class.

[Dave] Ramsey Tweeted, “this Obama rule will kill the Middle Class and below ability to access personal advice.” A war of Tweets then broke out between opponents of the rule, and supporters, the latter of which includes fee-based investment advisers expected to benefit from the new costs the rule will shower on their broker competitors.

because this arrogant bunch of wannabe dictators thinks they can pick winners and losers,

The rule creates a presumption against brokers taking third-party commissions from mutual funds they sell to savers. Because of this, savers who currently pay only a small commission on the execution of an order may have to pay a much larger fee based on a percentage of their assets, which would drive some brokers to simply stop serving middle-income investors. As I note in a new report for the Competitive Enterprise Institute, similar restrictions in Great Britain have caused a “guidance gap” in which brokers have largely stopped serving customers with assets less than £150,000 ($240,000).

The government is going to protect “the little people who are too stupid to inform themselves”, right ? Well, not really, because the game is not about protecting citizens, but about rigging the game in favor of group A against Group B so that Group A will donate money to your campaign and friendly PACs.

This type of racketeering is perfectly suited to Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. They will find amazingly creative ways to use it.

  81. El Gordo Avatar

    Phil, fat albert is not the same as me, and I’d vote for Trump even though I’m a Cruzer.     I posted this over yonder speaking to OleTimerLin;

Makes you wonder where Ted Cruz would be without the Cuban Midget, 295+123=418, not to mention Kasich/Carson. One thing is for certain, Cruz would’ve taken the plurality in Texas, giving him all the delegates, without that little weasel.
    And
Oh and if Rubio stays in, he LOSES Florida to Trump, without him, Cruz has a chance BUT, short of the upper gulf coast, it’s a Yankee state and a lot of them are Trump’s people. ~ SPITS

  86. Sarge Avatar

The very definition of Karma is this:

Trump skipped CPAC because he knew he would get booed there, goes to campaign in Kansas, and loses the Straw Poll to Cruz coming in a distant third.

    Then.

When he gets to Kansas he gets booed and loses the election to Cruz by double digits.

  87. Sarge Avatar

    Red State makes these points.

Cruz proved he can turn out voters, which is one of Donald’s key arguments for his candidacy, with Ted taking three thousand more votes in Maine than the entire Republican field combined in 2012.

Cruz proved he can win in the northeast. That’s after proving he can win in heartland and all the way west, too, in Alaska. Trump may have won Kentucky, but only by 4%. Contrast with Ted’s win in Kansas of almost 25%.

Therefore Cruz has undermined another chief argument that Trump makes for his campaign. Trump argues that he should win because he is a winner who wins. Cruz keeps proving that wrong by beating him. Your argument can’t be “I’m the unstoppable winning machine” if, you know, you aren’t.

And Cruz showed he is the clear choice for young conservative and libertarian voters and activists with his domination of CPAC.

There’s really no other way to put it. This week may have had Super Tuesday, but today was definitely Super Cruz Day. Though the spin doctors will try to minimize what it means, the fact is that the Donald not only got trounced, he got hurt. Bad. And even without Florida decided, it’s hard to see Rubio’s numbers today as any sort of mandate for a top of the ticket run.

The Donald has hurt himself by proclaiming that he can be “flexible” in his deal making. He notes that you always start high and try to wind up with what you actually wanted, and that all his high handed bluster may be nothing more than his “starting point.” I think that this is hurting him among those who perceived him to be rock hard on his promises, only to discover that he may be a little more “flexible.” That’s what happens when you don’t have principles. Cruz on the other hand has never offered more than he intends to deliver, and he has demonstrated that he is not “flexible” where core principles are concerned. The Louisiana vote reporting last night was interesting as it seems the early vote totals were reported first showing Trump jumping out to a huge lead, with Cruz catching up as the voting day polls were tallied. This could (and I repeat could) signal a turning point as the firmly committed revolutionary voters begin to again seek out someone they can trust to deliver on their promises. Rudio has joined that other guy whose name I can’t recall in the basement leaving Cruz and Trump to duke it out. I’ve said all along that Cruz was in the perfect position to step up when and if Trump falters, and Trump may be faltering as he tries to explain away some of his more outrageous comments. Or at least I hope so.

A little more on politics. I’m forced to watch CBSN for poll reporting, etc. and last night’s “team” was the biggest joke of losers I’ve every seen on TV. They may have been auditioning for some new comedy routines or something, but the token conservative (a female Rudio supporter with a hispanic last name) talked about how awful Trump is, and some other young girl who is starting a conservative magazine aimed at millenials who didn’t know anything except how awful Trump is, and probably Cruz too. It was a tremendous disappointment for the entire crew how poorly Rudio has faded, particularly since they all believe that he is clearly the best candidate except for Ksick who doesn’t know the difference between R and D and has no traction.

Who knew, but I heard on the radio this morning a commercial for CNN planning to cover a Democrat debate this evening. Well, I can hardly wait for that to come on. CBSN covered both Shrillary and Barney speeches last night and sent me to the point of trying to stuff pillows in my ears before my head exploded. I used to faithfully listen to Presidential addresses, even if I didn’t particularly care for the President, but I haven’t been able to listen to Zero for 7 years now – I can’;t imagine having to finish out my life not listening to or believing a single word coming out of the President’s mouth as our country speeds up knowing that the cliff is dead ahead.

The Donald has hurt himself by proclaiming that he can be “flexible” in his deal making. He notes that you always start high and try to wind up with what you actually wanted, and that all his high handed bluster may be nothing more than his “starting point.” I think that this is hurting him among those who perceived him to be rock hard on his promises, only to discover that he may be a little more “flexible.”

It ain’t hurting him with the folks who saw thru the bullschizzle from Day One.

I saw Nancy Davis (Reagan) in what looks to have been her only sci-fi film, Donovan’s Brain. It was sometime in the 80’s that I saw it, and her voice recorded as a young actress was instantly recognizable to me as the then-current FLOTUS. RIP, dear lady.

Well, my wife and huntin’ buddy’s wife got back from Nacogdoches about 11 AM and then had to get their ducks lined up for daughter-in-laws baby shower @ 1PM. I had to find/print pictures of the boy when he was a youngster. Daughter showed up about 12:30 and headed for the Merlot since she needed a little lubrication before going to an event like this…..Takes after her Dad. 😀

The author and his colleagues were invited to present their report on nutrition in America to President Obama’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

And then they were completely ignored.

Every. Single. Thing. The. US. Government. Has. Told. You. About. Food. Is. A. Lie.

To date, no researchers have published data that challenge or attempt to refute our findings and conclusions. The reason for this fact is simple: our science is strong and our findings irrefutable. Nevertheless, this has not stopped government-funded researchers and officials from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) from demonstrating an unscientific intolerance to criticism by using rhetoric and fallacious ad hominems in defense of their pseudoscientific methods. While these attacks do nothing to advance the science of nutrition, the fact that taxpayer-funded NIH officials and researchers are attacking and attempting to bully and censor legitimate scientists serving the public suggests that publicly-funded science is in grave jeopardy.

    Hey Texpat
I reckon this is what we got to look forward to in the future if Trump/Hillary gets elected. We will get farmed out to Mexico to do the work the Mexican won’t do cause they are here doing the work the American won’t do.

When you make that final inevitable move to Vlodivostok Russia and your flat is not quite up to your standards you can get professional North Koreans to do the remodel for you.

    Hardworking and honest
Oddly enough, but the people are industrious and honest. They will not be a long break from work to go to frequent smoke breaks and shirk their responsibilities. Korean masters , unlike the Russian, do not require you to the all-time money for the repair of apartments . They do the job efficiently and at a reasonable price.

North Korea farms out workers to Russia to work and bring cash into the country.

    The Gentlemen’s Club

Raymond Nelson, the student support specialist at Memminger Elementary in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, isn’t waiting around for our broken culture to right itself. He works with at-risk children, many of whom come from broken homes with no father figure. Grim statistics bear out what a devastating effect fatherlessness has on boys, who are then more inclined to turn to crime, to take drugs, to drop out of school, and to perpetuate this cycle of failure one day with broken families involving their own children.

fighting the culture war one boy at a time,

For once, a “gentleman’s club” is turning boys into men and not the other way around. Every Wednesday nearly 60 students from the first through the fifth grades at Memminger meet to discuss a new aspect of etiquette and self-presentation such as how to shake hands, make eye contact, open doors for ladies, and address their elders. Their motto is “Look good, feel good, do good.” They are required to wear ties and jackets, and Nelson has a stash of donated jackets, vests, and ties for those boys who don’t have their own. “I was thinking maybe if I have the boys dress for success,” said Nelson, “when was the last time you saw someone fighting in a tuxedo?”

If you have any young boys’ dress clothes (6-11 yrs), you might consider boxing them up and sending them to:

Some self-appointed expert the other day said in an interview Puerto Ricans and Mexican-Americans would never vote for a Cuban candidate. I’ve quit listening to practically everyone who opens their mouth about voters and what they will or won’t do.

In my entire life, I have never seen so many thousands of people both be so wrong about politics and insist on unfounded “facts” in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. It’s as if the entire nation has been consumed by a stupidity epidemic and the most infected are appearing on television and radio to brag about it.

    Phil:

Voting for Trump to fix our problems is the equivalent of amputating at the hip to fix a broken leg. You simply replace one problem with a different one – which is probably even worse.

Nobody hates the establishment Republicans any worse than I, but Trump’s not the answer – he’s part of the problem.

Heck we’ve had a Kenyan as president the last almost 8 years, guess it could be a Canadians turn next.

I guess being from Canada does make him an outsider after all.

I’d have to overlook that he was GOeP Bush toadie early on until the Dizzy Dunce quit liking him for his brother’s sake.

Well since the women folks were out of town and didn’t get back home until around 11 AM this morning and they then they had to go to daughter-in-law’s baby shower @ 1 PM, so I got out the old crock pot and fixed some boneless poke chops, using a recipe that I got from my cousin Linda, over in Alabama. We had poke chops, butter beans, broccoli and cheese, rice and gravy and dinner rolls, good stuff Maynard.

Today was Mom’s birthday. I haven’t seen her in several days – between my work responsibilities, church responsibilities (I had my retreat yesterday, so there was prep work to do this week), and finding time to sleep, it’s been crazy.

Mom was already wissed off at me after my sister spent weeks whispering in her ear about how badly I’ve supposedly treated her for years. Just walking into her room now sets her fuming at me. I had already special ordered a knock-off of her favorite frangrance, which is no longer made. A scent matching company was able to not only create a bottle of fragrance, but for a few extra bucks, a bottle of body lotion as well. I also fixed a rosary for her; the crucifix had broken off and the links are brass and very brittle. I bought some brass-looking small jump rings and used one of those to make the repair. I had also hand-made for her a rosary with beads that are larger than the ones she has now. She had asked for a larger-bead rosary after she broke her arm, so she could feel them better. I even had it blessed for her.

I sent out an email on Friday, letting everyone know that my workload had taken quite a hit and that I would no longer be able to spend days at a time at Mom’s bedside. Mom is doing much better, her vitals are great, and she is quite able to express her needs if she’d only use the call button. Well, it was worded much more gently than that. I pointed out that I walked in one morning and she looked very uncomfortable, but instead of calling the aides to help her, she waited until someone from the family walked in. Not good. My younger sister has set up such an expectation in Mom’s mind that not only does Mom not call for help, but now she expects her children to be at her side constantly to tend to her. I can’t do it anymore.

I walked in today and wished her a happy birthday in a cheerful tone. She got that set to her jaw and stared at the ceiling. I asked where everyone was, and it turns out that the younger sister had arrived with cheesecake and whipped cream, but had to return back to her job due to a lot of no-shows. I told Mom that I had brought her some birthday presents. “Well, I don’t know where I’m going to put them, if I could even see them,” she grumped. “Well, Mom, first off, I fixed your rosary for you!” I held it up for her and smiled. “Well, okay. I guess you can put it in the basket.” I did that, and then I pulled out her fragrance. “Mom, they don’t make your fragrance anymore, but I got you this!” I pulled out the bottle and the lotion and explained what I did for her. I asked when my Michigan sister was coming down, and Mom said her plane was supposed to be in this afternoon, and she was going to spend all Monday at Mom’s side. “And she has a job, too!” /facepalm

She finally started thawing out. We had an awkward conversation, and I told her I wanted to pray for the little old lady who was coding just a few doors down. Mom started talking. /sigh

Other family started drifting in. I stayed for a bit, then made my exit as gracefully as possible.

It’s getting really hard to be nice, but when I leave, I know that my side of the street is clean. I don’t have to feel guilty or uncomfortable about things I don’t say. I try not to let my emotions be manipulated by her or my other sisters But dang! It gets hard sometimes!

But the retreat was SO. AWESOME! The kids had such a good time, and so much spiritual growth happened, it just really made my day! One problem girl who had told me she had to leave at 1:00 to go to work called her boss to see if she could stay longer. That was impressive, especially for being one of “those kids” that teachers dread. One girl told me she was having a BLAST, especially since she had come in with really poor expectations for the day. Her brother had told she’d be bored and wouldn’t have a good time, especially since she was so antisocial. “And I made TWO new friends today!” she beamed. I thought she was gonna bust with happiness.

I read the evaluations last night while I was icing my back, and about 80% of the kids said the most meaningful moment of the weekend for them was being alone with the Scripture. Even after all these years, that still surprises me. It’s hard to think of teenagers being inspired by sitting alone with a pen and paper for 20-30 minutes at a time, considering the Word and what it means for/to them, but I think it’s such an unusual experience for them that they can’t help but be impressed with themselves.

Yesterday is the kind of day that keeps me motivated.

And I haven’t even touched on the blindfolded obstacle course…body parts musical chairs…heh heh heh.
