I just had dinner a few days ago with a strong Trump supporter from Wall Street who said Trumps’ position on the H1-B visa program was a critical reason for his support.

Twice during the evening he changed core positions, one of them during a commercial break — when he suddenly announced his support for H1-B visas for skilled workers and contradicted the stance his own Web site had him taking even as he spoke.

He said America had to stay in Afghanistan, which he has opposed, and gave a reason no one else has ever given — we need to because it’s next to Pakistan, and Pakistan has nuclear weapons. So are we there to protect the nuclear weapons, or to steal the nuclear weapons, or what?

This is my favorite Trumpism of the night:

He also rather blithely said he would order military commanders to commit war crimes if he thought it necessary — an order they are obliged under American and international law not to obey, as several of them have pointed out in recent weeks. And when challenged, he declared that they would do what he said, believe him, because that’s what a leader does.

That right there proved to me, once and forevermore, that the man is an idiot who doesn’t understand Leadership–especially Military Leadership. He seems to think it means being in charge and telling people what to do and punishing them if they don’t. A Leader does not inspire people to obey unlawful orders. Our soldiers know that “I vas only followink ohrdars.” isn’t a valid defense at a War Crimes trial.

It also convinces me, once and forevermore, that Donald Trump is the single most dangerous man ever to run for the Presidency. That he can claim that he can issue unlawful orders to kill civilians as a matter of policy and that his military will obey them and people will vote for him is the most frightening thing I have ever seen in American political history.

Good nippy morning Hamsters. Down to 43 and clear thanks to another front marching through.

Great start to the day with Texpat’s posts. How right on Ted is to point out the devastation of Detroit at the hands and scheming of the Dems for 50+ years.

Here’s a little more on Detroit. Truly a sad situation, but it does demonstrate that there are limits on the amount of corruption that can be employed before the golden goose finally gives up and dies.

I noticed that the unscientific Drudge Report poll for last night’s debate has Rudio falling beneath Ksick to less than 5%. That little dipstick has blown a promising political career that could have carried him the rest of his life for a few moments of glory and selling himself to the highest bidder. So long Rudio, it was nice knowing you.

I don’t know if there is anyone to compare this woman to in the history of American politics.

In November 2015, when transactions resumed to Clinton, she pulled in a total of $32,811 from two separate payments. In December, another $56,514 was made to her name. In January 2016, $88,878 more was given. All told, payroll and benefits transactions to Clinton have totaled $254,447 since the launch of her campaign.

    and,

While it is legal for candidates to pay themselves from campaign funds, the rule was established and intended for candidates who are not well off and quit their jobs to run for political office.

Bill and Hillary Clinton are estimated to be worth over $100 million dollars combined, with Hillary’s net worth estimated around $30 million and Bill’s estimated around $80 million, according to previous reviews of financial disclosure reports.

That Amazon camp lantern looks like a good deal, but my policy with such items right now is that I won’t buy anything that has not been thoroughly reviewed, tested, and reported on by Sarge first.

This LED camp lantern is regularly $35 on sale at Amazon today for $7.99.

That’s because it sucks dead birds.

    This one is much better.

I finally got around to using some gift cards that have been sitting in my purse for a while. I got some books from Barnes & Noble, and some items from Bed,Bath, & Beyond. One of them is a “find your lost keys” beeper fob thingie. I have a fob on my phone and one of my keys. Not as necessary as it used to be, but I have been known to put my silenced phone and walk away without remembering where it was…

Because that’s just how I roll.

When the kids were little, it was a morning game: “Where are Mommy’s keys today?”

    Mollie Hemingway:

“Did you ever go to a baseball game where everyone’s having a blast, drinking a few brewskis, and enjoying the antics of that one exuberant fan who’s shouting at the Jumbotron and telling funny jokes about the umpires? And they’re really good jokes because the umpires aren’t having their best game? And then that fan just keeps going and won’t stop? And he starts making inappropriate jokes about the women seated a few rows back from him? And then he vomits all over the people in front of him? And then he starts yelling racist insults at the cops who remove him from the stands?…. Anyway, last night’s GOP debate in Detroit was like the tail-end of the above scenario, with Donald Trump playing the part of “Drunk Oakland A’s fan who is at first funny before he vomits cheese fries on your kids.”

An Army veteran said he was fired from his management job at a CVS in Beltsville, Maryland after he confronted a pair of robbers who were attempting to steal prescription drugs from the store.

Joe Morici, who served in Afghanistan, told his employees to call 911 when two men jumped the pharmacy counter and demanded access to the store’s safe. As the criminals started to leave the store Morici confronted them.

Cruz and Kasich were the only two adults in the room, including the moderators.
Actually Cruz did very well, I just hope the little Cuban gets out and lets Cruz have a chance.

I thought it was all about white male privilege.

Virginia demonstrated this phenomenon the best, as Republican turnout was up 109 percent compared to 2008, while Democratic turnout was down 14 percent from 2008. This resulted in nearly 482,000 women voting in the Republican primary versus about 444,000 women voting in the Democratic primary.

The same occurred in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. In total, more than 4 million women voted in the Republican primaries on Tuesday, compared to just over 3.2 million voting in the Democratic primaries.

They’re going to tax your internet connection and usage. I know there was plenty of pressure on Congress to fight the “net neutrality” regulations forced down our throats by Obama’s FCC, but they just rolled over and have had nothing to say about it.

Friday was the one-year anniversary of the “Open Internet Order” passed by the FCC, which reclassified broadband providers as “telecommunications carriers.” That classification allows the FCC to impose what is known as a Universal Service Fee on Internet service, which is generally in the range of 20 percent of a consumer’s total bill.

IMHO the Donald is making a mistake in skipping out on CPAC. Perhaps it is because he won’t be able to clear the hall of protesters since he isn’t the one renting the hall as he was when he ordered disruptors to be escorted out of several rallies? Just how rowdy would protesters have to get before the CPAC management would act to have them removed?

CPAC’s schedule may well have some squishy, questionable conservatives speaking, but real conservatives are there in strength. One proclaiming to be a conservative ought not to miss appearing there, particularly when invited as a featured speaker. It’s a slap in the faces of conservatives and those leaning that way countrywide.

#32 – I must respectfully disagree on this one. The Donald apparently got wind that the CPAC deal was a trap. Who can blame him for being careful at this point – he’s got Cruz to deal with, Rudio nipping at his heels, Fox News wanting him out, the eReps out to destroy him. I would say the waters are treacherous, and I really don’t think he is dodging anything other than a trap. I’m not necessarily on Trump’s side, but I do think it’s prudent for him to be cautious.

  32. El Gordo Avatar

I keep seeing stuff promoting a Cruz-Rudio ticket to oppose the Donals. Problem is that Cruz is a principled individual and would not associate himself under any condition with the likes of a liar and political prostitute like Rudio.

Trump was at CPAC earlier in the week to be interviewed on Fox and was subjected to a lot of boos. He probably decided to blow it off at that point.

Good points. The Donald is no dummy. He can be woefully uninformed in some of his statements that require rapid clarification, but he makes his clarification and moves on, does not get trapped in defensively reworking it half a dozen times depending on who asks what on the matter. Some of his competitors ought to learn how to do that better. 🙂

Another thought on why The Donald could be skipping CPAC’s forum: most of the remaining primaries are closed primaries, Republicans only. And winner take all. Open primaries let anybody with a pulse play. Would not look all that great to have an audience with hostile members there just before going into closed primaries. Since a lot of his support comes from other than Republicans, they will not be voting in the closed primaries.
