Monday Hopeful Open Comments

I was reading my Bible and devotionals this morning, and there seems to be a confluence:

John 14:18 “I will not leave your orphans; I will come to you.”

Devotional: “During difficult times it is critical that we are walking in fellowship with other Christians. When a crisis hits, it is overwhelming to face it alone. But if we have cultivated supportive friendships, we will find strength in the comfort and encouragement of those who care about us. Interdependence is also a safeguard for us when we are lured by temptation…You must link your life with others who are seeking God’s will. Seek to be a person who willingly joins others in carrying out God’s assignments. Strive to be the source of support and encouragement that those around you need.”

Devotional: “If my mind is clouded by nameless dreads, I will track them down and expose their unreality. I will remind myself that God is in charge of me and mine and that I have only to accept His protection and guidance.”

The Sicilian Mafia – doing the work Obama won’t do.

The son of a New York mob boss has given Islamic State a stark warning, saying if they are planning any attacks in New York, they will have to contend with the Sicilian mafia. The notorious crime syndicate say they want to do their bit to protect locals.

“The world is dangerous today, but people living in New York neighborhoods with Sicilian connections should feel safe,” he said. “We make sure our friends and families are protected from extremists and terrorists, especially the brutal, psychopathic organization that calls itself the Islamic State,”

Gambino Jr, who was brought up in Torretta, a mountainous area overlooking Palermo, the capital of Sicily, says that Islamic State (formerly ISIS/ISIL) fear the Sicilian mafia, and this has been one of the main reasons why they have not tried to set up any underground cells in Sicily.

    Obama incompetent or treason?

I say treason. There is nothing incompetent about his actions. I believe he came in with a check list and agenda.

    SNUCK !?

Carlson is a veteran journalist, columnist and managing editor with a BA in English from Penn State and a law degree from George Washington in DC.

…and she used the clumsy, inept past tense form of sneak five times in two paragraphs.

It’s not that I am pedantic about the usage, especially in informal conversation, but if I were Carlson I would at least try to use the more formal and acceptable sneaked if I were on television in front of millions of people.

When in doubt, it’s usually better to go with the older form—sneaked, in this case—but there’s nothing wrong with using snuck. Just watch out for English traditionalists with peeves.

Of course, if Adee thinks I’m just being grouchy, I’ll defer to her.

Does anyone have any ideas why I keep losing the driver to my HP printer? I will randomly send something to print and the printer won’t be “found”. When I go to download the driver from HP, it makes me use this install framework which is supposed to automatically download the driver, but it fails.

HP LaserJet Pro CM1415fnw color MFP
Toshiba Satellite laptop with Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1

This just started happening…since we made the printer visible on my home network, maybe?

  11. Tedtam Avatar

And the driver installation software fails more often than succeeds.

Really puts a crimp in my plans to be productive.

I have similar experience with HP, though only once since I bought a new one. Similar experience with HP downloads too which are always full of extraneous crappola. I have had to dispense with using any kind of shortcuts for the printer/scanner and go the longer route through Programs sometimes, too.

Here’s hoping it wasn’t Carly Fiorina’s idea that I want to hear from HP on a weekly basis, or more often.

Finally figured it out – I didn’t need to download a new driver.

I had to restart the print spooler. It took me a while to figure out where and when to go, and what to do when I got there. Thank goodness my internet search hadn’t been affected.

Given Tedtam’s background in computing, I’m sure she is familiar with the term. It’s an old 60’s software term for a type of buffer, mostly one that aligns things into a queue, or chute. It’s an IBM acronym and I think it had something to do with the old 9 track tape units.

Me: The Sunday after Thanksgiving ?!!! Are you serious ? We’ll still be recovering from the meal.

    Mom: Yes.

Me: What ? They can’t wait ? Why the hurry now ? Is this a shotgun wedding ? It’s not like they’re virgins or anything.

Good late afternoon Hamsters. We had a beautiful widespread frost and 31 this morning, all sparkles and diamonds at sunrise and afterward. Gossamer mists rose as the frost melted and floated upward on warming rays. Did a brisk walk bundled up on the way to feed the mares and out to fetch the Chron when there was only the promise of light in the east.

Congratulations to Shannon and Fay on their 27th Anniversary. Many more to come.

Congratulations to Bonecrusher on gaining a son. Best wishes to the newlyweds and may they have many years together.

Hannity is interviewing a Jewish US reporter who went to Turkey and joined a group of Syrian moslem refugees waiting to be transported by boat to Greece with the intent to go to Germany. The fiction that the majority of refugees are women and children is absolute garbage he says. More like 80% were men age 15-50 without families in tow, many coming for economic reasons or educational advantage. Assimilation into German society is not the object. And there are some with questionable motives, as in recruiting for ISIS.

He did not make the trek from Greece to Germany but rather flew from Greece to Germany and met up with refugees there, though not necessarily the same group. While many were happy with the German welcome and welfare assistance, they were looking for employment and settling in, though not assimilation into German culture, more like coexistence. And they understood how easy it would be to establish moslem enclaves that could morph into no-go zones, but that didn’t especially bother them. And ISIS recruiters were already there.

The reporter will be on Hannity’s Fox News Channel show tonight.

After taking on (along with his sister) the loving but difficult task of final care for a few months, one of my dearest friends lost his mother to the loving arms of the Lord. Members of the greatest generation are leaving us ever more quickly. I was very fond of this lady. We had a special relationship. My friend’s wife didn’t seem to understand when I spoke of my love for Georgia’s sense of humor and flirtatiousness.

On the ten mile trip home from the visitation this evening an old song (of course) wafted through my mind.

Old Phil and old SQK probably remember it.

Oh for sure. Sorry about your loss. I too have suffered the loss of special friends,

    Ecclesiastes 3
    A Time for Everything
3 There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

My son is home on his days off from the oilfields. They called today asking if he could pick up some parts in Houston and deliver them out to the site south of San Antonio, they’d pay him four hundred bucks so he went for it. Mom decided she wanted to tag along. Well the oilfield goes as the oilfield goes, change of plans, change of plans, hurry up, hurry up, wait, wait – they didn’t get out of town good until 5:30, they’ll get home if they are lucky sometime during the middle of the night. Welcome to the oilfield Honey! 😀

I was so disgusted when I walked onto a Ford lot recently and saw a loaded 1/2 ton for $51,800 that I swore I would never buy another new pickup again.

It’s obscene. These vehicles today are so ridiculously overpriced, like homes, that I’ve sworn off all of them. It wouldn’t matter how much money I have, I simply can’t abide getting screwed over like that.
