Open Comments – Open Letter

Found this over the weekend – an open letter to a welfare recipient:

You asked, if I were offered a million dollars, would I walk away from it. You’re getting free money, you argued, so there is no reason you should you walk away from it.

I was surprised neither of the radio hosts asked you about whether or not it matters where the money comes from. There was no discussion about the difference between receiving a gift from the proper owner and getting stolen goods.
/snip
I would gladly accept such a gift and immediately use it to start a business, go to school, or send my kids to a good school. Or I would save it as an emergency/retirement fund and keep working. But if that money was only given on the condition that I simply spend it to live in a dinky home, not work, and get high all day—I would recognize it as toxic. I would recognize the giver as a killer.
/snip
Your reference to sitting around getting high all day is a hint as to how you are being degraded and destroyed. I’m not saying that marijuana use by itself is always fatal. That’s not my point. My point is that sloth is fatal. You are becoming a warped version of a human being. You are meant to be productive and inventive and most of that has been sucked from you. Eventually it will all be gone forever.
/snip
Remember, no one is giving you that money because they care about you. You’re just a state hostage so that politicians can shame us for wanting to end “welfare.”
/snip
You speak of people like me “preaching morality.” I’m sorry you view it that way. I think God made you great and wants you to be greater. He made you to be a ruler, not a slave. He wants you to take dominion over your part of the world.

Instead, you’ve accepted a jail cell because, for now, it is comfortable and easy.

I said there are strings attached, but that isn’t string. More like barbed wire.

And it is tightly wrapped around your mind and soul.

    Well.

    So much for that.

Tomorrow marks one month since a piece of a Boeing 777 washed up on the Indian Ocean island of La Réunion, but French investigators are no closer to confirming that the part came from missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. In fact, leaks from within the investigation suggest that the part might not have come from the plane at all.

Well, the Malaysian Airliner investigation is still moving along faster than the biker slaughter in Waco.

Both of Her Parents, Liberal Democrats…

    ——————————————————————————–

“I recently asked my neighbors’ little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up. She said she wanted to be a President.

Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there, so I asked her, ‘If you were President what would be the first thing you would do?’

She replied, ‘I’d give food and houses to all the homeless people.’ Her parents beamed with pride.

‘Wow…what a worthy …goal.’ I…… told her, ‘But you don’t have to wait until you’re a President to do that! You can come over to my house to mow the lawn, pull weeds, trim my hedge, and I’ll pay you $50. Then I’ll take you over to where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house.’

She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, ‘Why doesn’t the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50?’

I said, ‘Welcome to the Republican Party.’

Her parents still aren’t speaking to me.”

That’s because all the Blue Bell is gone already.

I had an eye exam and got measured for new specs at Sears this morning, then stopped by Kroger on my way home to get a few things. I went down the ice cream aisle where there were several empty sections for BB cartons. That in itself is no different than right after the BB recall. But now there were signs saying Limit 2. Gone. All gone.

Preezy renamed Mt. McKinley after a GMC truck? Must be fulfilling a promise from when he bailed out GM.

But seriously, since Denali was the original name given I don’t see a problem with reverting back to it. I know a bunch of Floridians who would be pissed if some carpet-bagging Ohio politician came down and tried to rename the Suwannee the Boehner River.

I’m old enough to remember well the uproar when LBJ renamed Cape Canaveral to Cape Kennedy. After about 10 years the Florida legislature said to hell with the feds and officially changed it back.

I have to say I’m comforted by the local minority reaction to the shooting of deputy sheriff Goforth. I always am. I think it’s important to recognize that racists like Quanny in no way represent black folks. Minneapolis….not so much.

My wife has followed all the Waller County stuff since Sandra Bland. Your world view changes when the focus narrows. She is scared to death some of the thug videos she watches. I told her she needed to watch this reaction, we don’t live in Ferguson or Baltimore and thank the Good Lord for it. I too am comforted.

Back from 14 days of cruising the Norwegian fjords from the south to the North Cape, purportedly the farthest point north in Europe that sticks into the Arctic Ocean. ‘Cept the cape right next to it sticks a little farther north, but it didn’t have the backing of influential folks claiming it was the farthest north. North Cape did, and it has an impressive monument at the end of its jagged granite cliff that juts out into the Arctic some 1,000 feet below.

Back down the fjords to Bergen and then a return across the North Sea to port in England and a couple of days there. Home around 6 pm today. Glad to be home.

Did anyone else happen to see the helicopter video of police chase on outbound Southwest Freeway today? TV coverage of it interrupted a show I was recording at about 1:45pm. At the end, a black guy bailed out of the moving car and ran barefoot across the freeway. The chopper camera simply followed him as he ran, and as he seemed to be entering a residential or retail area, he suddenly threw himself down on a sidewalk and lay there spread-eagle. It looked to me like he was just tired and quit. However, there is followup video that shows what actually happened — not visible from the airborne angle where I first saw this.

An armed civilian driver saw the running man, got his handgun from the glove box, got out and told him to freeze and get on the ground. This man said he saw the runner headed toward a parked car where something was being loaded or unloaded, and was afraid a car-jacking might be coming up. So he stepped in and stopped it. Had the runner on the ground till police cars got there.

Still Pining for Mitt: Some GOP Donors Hoping Romney Will Jump in the Race.
Though this election cycle was supposed to feature the most impressive field of Republican presidential candidates in decades, a handful of the party’s major donors and bundlers remain underwhelmed by their options. They are longing for the bad old days, and Mitt Romney is still their man. These holdouts continue to hope that the former Massachusetts governor, who said in January he would not run for a third time, will change his mind. They believe he could dispel the chaos that has reigned over the Republican field for months. Though they gave plenty of money to Romney’s presidential campaigns, this year they’re keeping their wallets shut, waiting for him to reenter the fray.
